Love the Independence! On a side note. There was a stray Mom cat that came to Tiny Kittens. 6 kittens. Riviera is the Mom and all the kittens are named after cars. The last was a girl tuxie with a white necklace and pink collar named Chevelle. There's a Monterrey, Duster, Torino and Polara, plus Maverick! Go figure!

I'm just an old school guy and I really like this guy. He's kinda funny and I like and watch everyone he cohorts with. Hell, that's how I found him on the tube.
I remember Independence first time on the lift in the Minnesota shop, Derek said this ten bolt will get replaced but I’ll run it as long as I can!
I will regret missing these Indy events forever. It's just a short drive for me. Glad you guys enjoyed our state. We're like a big ass family out here.

I have watched the series several times because it’s tough to soak in all of the humor and details in just one sitting. Some great people he had helping him on that rig.

The Independence is dialed in for sure. It did look like the tail pipes were riding pretty low, but the idea worked perfectly. That was an epic burnout; thanks for sharing.

I'm amazed at how the 10 bolt is taking it like a champ.
Burning rubber is a whole lot less stress for that 10 bolt compared to drag racing!
since they stopped all that wheel hop, it's not taking such a terrible pounding and it's doin' alright. its fine with all the RPMs, it's the hard shocks that send em to fucksville. Kevin did a nice job gettin that thing to stay planted!
10 bolts are actually pretty tough it’s just sudden torque break em. My trucks original lasted through a lot until a neutral slap took it out. 4L60e keeps moving and slipping down the road
I am utterly amazed it hasn't exploded.

PPV was great. Cleetus and the team he hired did a great job. Kevin did a bang up job on Independence. Hope you can get another cage built so you can get her under 10 sec in the next drag and drive. Oh and Indy needs more lights so we can see her through all the smoke :)
Maybe add some upwards and downwards lightbars to the car to illuminate the smoke?
Completely agree about the lights. Reds, whites and even blues, shining in as many directions as possible, would look great. For most of that epic burnout, I had no idea where the car was. Rigging-up some serious lights, either flashing, or running through a sound-to-light, would add another element of showmanship and might even help Derek know where the car is in the arena.👍😁

Still to date, and for reference I am 35 and an avid car lover, car show attendee, cruise night enthusiast, swap meet crawler and all things gas powered addict. Being said; Derek you have the coolest and most patriotic engine in a very patriotic historical car. If you hadn't found this one of a kind Chevelle, it would have been lost to the world yet you gave it a more glorious existence in it's forgotten state than it ever had. Tip of the cap. I have to admit...a fella got a little choked up at the start when the jet cars ripped by and then the burnout contest started. I love it. Good on ya Derek
Excellent effort, Independence is near top form. I'll be honest, when I saw the exhaust I knew there would be a problem. It's not that it's too low, even though it is. It's that you're lighting the tires on fire. In the comp burnout game Fire = lost smoke = lose. It's a spectacle, yes, but not a formula for a true comp win. You'll notice winning Summer Nats Aussie burnout cars never have exhaust near the tire. I hope the damage bangs out ok, and she'll be ready for the next event. Maybe a Neighbor style tube rear armor bumper wouldn't be such a bad idea.
Even the big time methanol cars with exhausts running straight out the back have problems with tyre fires, especially with the big fireballs they produce when pumping the loud pedal or banging off the limiter.
Proud to say I was there! Sat through all the rain camped for two days too. Met Derek and snagged a current independence chevelle shirt. Ole Derek sure let the eagles out of her that night and I'll never forget seeing it in person! Good people,junk food,burnt rubber and wobble pops....God love it!
I'm glad you mentioned something about possibly having a wraparound tube bumper made. That was my first thought when I saw someone's video of your burnout and the bad wall tap.
