Thanks for doing this! I would love to point out the original tech for the foil press was invented by the couture creations. ( go Australia) It is worthwhile mentioning because their foils are fab - great colour range and at a great price point. Also the couture creations base does not warp. The top, which is removable is also designed to be used to die cut as well. It is compatible with the go power and emboss, sizzix and spell binders.
Great video, Carissa! One thing I would add with the Minc or a laminator--I find it helpful to use a cardstock shim. I have a piece of somewhat-thick cardstock that I folded in half. I put it under the cardstock/paper I'm foiling (with the foil pretty-side up on top of this stack), inside the carrier sheet, then run it through my Minc. The shim puts the foil & cardstock closer to the heating element, as well as increasing the pressure a bit, which seems to produce much better results. I got that idea from another UA-cam video (I forget who did it), and it was a game changer for me! I used to use a single thickness of cardstock (probably about 65 lb.), and it was better than no shim, but still so-so. Recently, I used the folded piece for my shim (about the same weight), and wow--perfect results! Best I've ever had with foiling. :) Also, I would advise people to be careful and cover the toner areas completely with foil. Otherwise, it will transfer or "melt" to your carrier sheet, and can get on future projects. Ask me how I know! LOL Anyway, thank you so much for sharing. Have an awesome day! :)
Thanks for sharing this educational tutorial Carissa as it can be quite confusing with all the different foils on the market and one needs to know the differences between the thermo foils and toner reactive foils. You'd be surprised on how many criticizing Amazon comments I've read on foil products left by people and it is only because they do not understand the difference between the 2 foils, which is a shame, of course, especially for the companies who provide these products. I'm sure this video will help many. Have a great day, Carissa!
I totally agree about reviewers like that. The two types of reviewers I really don't like are 1. ones who give a negative review because they don't understand the product and assume it's the product's fault that it doesn't work, and 2. ones who just say, "I like it" or "I don't like it." I much prefer details, since that especially helps me know if the reviewer is giving an accurate review (i.e. they know how to use the product and don't fall under my first "don't like" category)! :)
Carissa love your videos. You HAVE to watch Nancy Stamps. She is a goddess of foiling. I have learned so much from her. She has done a lot of experimentation in that area. Also check out Creative Visions Stamps. Her foils are such a great buy. She sold her company but she is having some great sales now. 😘😘. I hope this wasn’t a no no mentioning these things
I have a differ machine for foiling. That works with big shot. The Gemini is nice. This mink one is cool. Neat the glue trick can you use Aliens? Neat with the paste I like this. I like the embossing power TFS I enjoyed this ...
For the glue, you have to use one that is tacky when it dries. So, the Zig 2-way glue pens, Tombow Mono Multi glue (the white kind), & the Deco Foil glue are probably the main, if not only, glues that will work. Aleene's Tacky Glue (the original) doesn't actually dry tacky, so won't work. Maybe their glue that dries to a tacky finish (I think it's called Tack It Over and Over?) would work. Give it a try. Hope this helps! :)
So many great tips. I especially like the tip re heating up the plate to flatten. Am saving this video for referencing back too!
Thank you! This is very helpful. Saving it for reference. Happy Crafting 😄

Awesome video. You answered a bunch of my questions. Thank you so much.
Thank you Carissa - that was really helpful!

Ok thank you, need mink machine never brought one.
The other thing is, if you put blade side down, you will get a thicker line!
fionna wheatley but the blade will cut into your base so I wouldn’t recommend that.
