About This Video:
Full two stage paint correction from start to finish.... car polishing! In this video I show step by step the sequence in a 2 stage paint correction on trashed paint. This car's paint has not been maintained, it has not been taken care of, so here I give it a makeover! From a rotary to a DA, from compounding to finishing polish, I take you guys along with me in this full, all day, paint correction process. Follow along, and learn the sequence in accomplishing a job like this.
I love the video its a good mix of normal speed and fast! And you're very skilled at what you do love watching your videos because they are always very practical.
Thanks Richard! I’m glad!
Another fantastic video Luke! As an enthusiast I am learning so much from you! Hope you have a great Christmas!
I’m so glad man! Thank you for taking the time to say something!
Excellent Luke. Congrats on 32K subscribers. Wow, you're on a roll. Merry Christmas.
Thanks so much Sam! Merry Christmas!
94k now a year later
Great video. Gives us a great view of the process and materials. Thank you.
Thanks Phillip!
I agre with bad comments, if you don't care about your car this system will work for you fine...AMATEURISH
People bitch and moan about everything. I think he did what he knows the best and what he’s good at. Just because people watch your favorite UA-camr use high end brands and different techniques doesn’t mean Wilson is doing it wrong. Plus, most of the time people whom are getting their cars detailed for us to show on UA-cam aren’t even paying for your time and effort. You did great man. Paint correcting is not an easy task by no means.
Thanks man! I appreciate your feedback and encouragement! Keep hustling, and you’re right, paint correction is no easy feat
How long should it take an average weekend warrior to completely compound, polish and wax a normal sized car using a DA polisher?
I have a question: why you used two rotary? Could you have been used only one, just changing the pad? Thanks.
Does polishing (or 2 step detailing) strips off some of the clear coat?
Yes, you do have to be aware of the amount of clear coat the vehicle has. They make paint gauges to check. Someone correct me if im wrong but typically in a 2 step process youll be removing about .05 mm or less of clear coat, very little.
Could you wet sand 3000 grit instead of compounding? and save all that messy cleanup?
The results definitely would have been better with wet sanding first. But I didn’t want to do that just because of the clear coat that would be removed with that. If one did wet sand first then you’d still have to follow with a two step, at least I would, and in that case you could use a DA for both steps which would make it dramatically cleaner. The rotary slings pretty bad, and of course I always overcompensate on polish in videos to make sure that the camera pics all of it up, and I do it for explaining purposes. So I hope that answers your question
Love that showcar power brite!!
Im really looking forward to seeing the website with all the videos and products 😃
Yes!! January 1st!
I used an All in one to a friends car that was ceramic coated. ( HD speed, orange pad using a 15 mm DA) did that remove the coating? I only did it in a few spots where there were scratches
Good question wish I had the answer lol
So did having to do that kill the hype of ceramic coatings for you? Lol
Yes
More than likely it removed at least a level of it.
It's very easy to remove consumer and pro grade coatings. A light polish will do it
What about literally filling in scratches with glaze or some other designated filler. For customers who dont have a higher income but also enjoy looking at a significant smaller amount of swirls. Can I use wax on top of filler? Can I use filler as wax. Maybe other people have the same question. Can you talk about swirl mark filler please? In a video, live stream, or Instagram posts. I'm very curious because I almost never use filler but want to know more from the one and only Luke Wilson!
I’ll definitely hit on fillers in a video danik! Thanks for asking!
@@wilsonautodetailing thank you!
@@SPPACATR glazes are actually fillers.. It will greatly reduce the look of swirl marks and scratches.. Remove and then youll see them again
You gotta learn how to use the light to actually show the paint defects ... and the end results you still can see hazing on some areas... after a rotary cutting you don’t use a finishing pad to remove the hazing from the rotary you should of used a polishing pad... you can’t correct much with a finishing pad it’s too soft
Definitely, in my experience it is difficult to get the lighting right in the camera but I am still practicing and learning. I appreciate the feedback. Definitely still some hazing in the end, as the paint was not perfect. The point of me doing this is actually to put the paint in good condition before I start doing certain washing methods on it to test the two bucket wash method. It’s difficult to include the whole context of things in every video so maybe that’ll help explain why I did certain things.
Hey how does he keep from scratching all the chrome around the windows and stuff without taping it up? Wouldn’t the polish scratch them all up?
It doesnt, the chrome is clear coated in a very similar way as the paint
Wilson Auto Detailing no shit?? Is that all new cars? Cause I have two cars and I’d love to not have to tape all the chrome
Hi Luke, how long did it take to do the car and whats the price range a average detailer would charges for a job like this.
Definitely took me all day and for me a job like this would circle around $400 for the two step alone
Hey Luke! Wanted to catch you early. Sorry this is off topic. Just bought a car, dealership swears they have a fabric protector that lasts 6 years! Is that just BS? It was supposedly formulated just for them. But what's the longest lasting and effective fabric protector you know of? Thanks a bunch man.
Interesting man! I can’t say I’ve seen one that lasts substantially more than say a year, but even then it’s on a very high end car that doesn’t get driven everyday. I could be wrong though! Maybe this is something I’ve not run into yet!
Ask a lot of questions!

Thanks Luke. Thanks for the great video too, I'm trying to get better at paint correction. Don't forget to make us a PDF flow chart of detailing entire car start to finish. 😁 Enjoy your Christmas! Blessings.
Merry Christmas Luke and whoever read this!
Merry Christmas to you!
Your the best luke
Thanks man!
Holy crap, that showcarz stuff is INCREDIBLY cheap.
Yes it is!
Great video! As always! One step i miss, how do you clean the dust? Blowing? You use an IPA?...and how often you change the pads?
Thanks from Spain! I LOVE your videos!
Hey man! I use an ONR solution to help wipe off the polish and a makeup brush for any cracks and crevices, and a totally new microfiber towel
What would a customer pay approx for a 2 stage polish say on the car in the video
How long would a job like that take to do
Thanks
I would quote it around the $400 dollar mark give or take depending on the situation
What light are you using? Damn that's bright!
Better empty that trash Luke or Coco will be on your case. Got to keep the wife happy! LOL Merry Christmas my friend.
Hahaha that’s right!!!
very very nice video 👍
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas!
Do you think it’s necessary to have a rotary and a da
I would say this, if you have a rotary you need a DA, if you have a DA, you don’t have to have a rotary... does that make sense?
Wilson Auto Detailing yeah I’m just unsure on which rotary to buy Rupes or flez
Wilson Auto Detailing I do currently have that same rotary as you same thing I do get hologram that’s why I want a da to better my performance
After heavy compounding can I use all in one polish as final step instead of using a polish? What is your thoughts on glaze that hide the swirl/scratch?. Merry Christmas and new year.
Aaron xp Actually, after a heavy correction like this, you should do two steps. A finer polish to get out the holograms left by the rotary and finally a finish polish.
If it is a true heavy compound ^^^ I would do two steps, simply because an all in one will not fix to perfection the damage left by the rotary
And to your other question, I’m not a huge fan of glazes and things that mask imperfections
What did you charge for this job?
Let’s say it would be a minimum of around $400
Nice job
Thanks man!
It's late in Brazil here like 0045 but hey Luke!
Hey man!
Excelente. Obrigado
Muchas gracias!
All that's left to do is remove the dealer name from rear trunk. 👍🏽
Hahahaha YES!
Wish we could've seen the car outside with enough light. Hard to see, to be honest.
Love your channel, content, and passion for detailing, BUT from my experience in paint correction this was not the correct course of action. Your process is very susceptible to errors troughout the finish (working on very large areas of the vehicle without cleaning and replacing pads frequently) & also EXTREMELY messy. I see your trying to work with some speed in mind but, with all the sling and use of excess product its just making your process longer. A solid one-step would of achieve the same results in half the time, and would of saved your vehicle more clear coat. Like I said prior I'm a big fan and love what you do for the community! But constructive criticism is key! Wish you the best!
I appreciate that feedback, consider this as well: it’s the difference between a prescriptive part of the video and a descriptive part of the video. Not everything is instruction, and me saying “hey go do this.” Some things in videos are me doing something because I know I can use it as a short cut, or because I’m working on my own car. For example I wouldnt recommend using one pad. But in this case because this was my own car, and because I was testing out the spider pads at 3D, I used one for my own experimental sake, but never in the video did I ever suggest that someone else do that. There are things in videos that I do that I don’t suggest or use as an instruction because each case is so different. Another example is the amount of polish here. I used more than I needed to make sure that all that I was doing could be picked up in the camera even though it created more work for me. That was not me saying hey you should go do this! That was me trying to make things more easy to see, and understand. Everything in videos has to be taken into context. Also I think results speak for themselves, so if people can look at my results and say see the results are terrible, what are you doing?! Then I can work with that. But if no one argues with results, and just technique... well then I don’t know about that
@@wilsonautodetailing I completely understand where your coming from, and it looks like you got some good results I'm not debating that at all. At the same token (and this is just me as a detailer like your self) results are very important, but how you get those results are almost just as important! I think it's always good practice to detail like your customer is watching, or in this case detail like your in a garage with 20+ other very rare classic cars haha. In the case of the video, yes you got to the finish line which is great! But your driving throughout the race was a bit sketchy lol. And If your testing out the spider pads, is there a reason you went with your first stage of cut with the rotary? I know you wanted to do some heavy lifting, but swirl marks and maring is not much to lift haha! Thanks again for the response, and all that you do for the community! Can wait to see the website as well!
Thanks man! I agree with you totally. The process is extremely extremely important. Again this being my own car I do things that I wouldn’t do on customers cars for obvious reasons. But to your comment, i wasn’t only testing out the pad, that was just one thing I was doing here in my day making videos, and my reason for doing this on my own car is actually so I can start a playlist testing out a ten week period of the two bucket wash method on this paint, to see how much marring it caused after the ten week period washing it once a week. Maybe that’ll help the context here. Video is difficult because there’s no way to explain the full context of videos so people tend to always jump on something. Thought I understand your thought process and appreciate your input and involvement here my man! I can tell you come from the right place!
Yikes black car 😬
Dark blue but close 😬😬
Too much talking 😤
Poor techniques ...
Well it’s the difference between a prescriptive part of the video and a descriptive part of the video. Not everything is instruction, and me saying “hey go do this.” Some things in videos are me doing something because I know I can use it as a short cut, or because I’m working on my own car. Messy job
That was kind of the point. Can you argue with the end results?
