    Beautiful watch. Glad you’re covering this and the other recent premier releases Pete. I think I’ll have to add one of these to the collection at some point. Stunning watches and great video as always

    White dials are great for summer. The timing makes sense in that regard

    I have one in black and I absolutely love it. bought it on the Geneva flagship store also, we were served a bottle of champagne and had an evening stroll along the shores of lake Geneva afterwards Having a press event for a new color is stupid.

    I tried out the blackface gold premier a couple of weeks ago and it is a sharp, sharp watch. I currently own 2 Breitlings( SOH II, Chronomat 40mm GMT) and am a big fan of the brand. Kern knows what he’s doing and I do not think they’re scared of anything. Quiet confidence.

    A nice quiet release, a class act Pete. Just like the 80's when we had only catalogs to look at and were surprised every year when looking at the new catalogs when they came out. I have high hopes with the NEW Breitling business plan and watches.

    As someone that is liking the trend to smaller sizes, I love this release. Additionally, I have a friend that is considering a Breitling and prefers small watches, but he's not exactly up on the latest news. I think Breitling should've definitely made a bigger deal of this launch. It's only because of you Pete that he'll probably know about this. Given the classic color, I imagine he goes with this one.

    I really like the Breitling Premier series. Just the brand in general, doing mostly great things in recent times.

    Somehow I never see your polls until the video about it comes out. I think I would like something between nothing at all and the Tudor style hype train. The hype train at full throttle complete with cringy video for every little thing is tiresome. However, if Breitling was a brand a cared about, I would want to know that a new color was available, and so at least a press release, and a bit of coverage in the usual places. They don't need hype, but total stealth is a bit puzzling.

    Maybe they know that most of their sales come from AD's where they can be seen in person

      I think thats right - its a few weeks after a big release that could generate traffic anyway - this would be like a little easter egg in the AD.

    Question for you Pete, does Breitling still have a relationship with Tudor, and why do we not see many 12 hr chronos and just 30 min ones in the chrono world going back to about 10 or more yrs ago?
    Regards,
    Starlight

    • @PeteMcConvill
      @PeteMcConvill  Рік тому +1

      1. Im not 100% sure on your question regarding tudor. Somethings - the 'relationship' was (I think) never that deep - they were mutual suppliers, not partners - tudor sold breitling three handers, brietling sold tudor chronographs.
      2. Tudor/Kenissi have only ever made 1 movement (the older, fatter one) available to non kenissi partners (tudor and channel). NO ONE else has accessed the smaller movement in the BB 58/54. Given Breitling is pushing for slimmer, more casual, more refined designs under the Kern regime I cant see how the big ol chonker tudor has a place in the new brietling other than the SOH.
      3. not sure on your chrono question - maybe in 2021 timing longer things is best done using a phone you'll always have with you (for example - I dont wear many watches for 8-12 hours straight) while shorter, more spur of the movement things suit a mechanical watch better?

      @@PeteMcConvill Hi Pete,
      You answered my questions. Thank you,
      Starlight

    • @koolpep
      @koolpep Рік тому +1

      Yes they do - Tudor still uses the Breilting B01 based MT5813 in their BB Chrono line (worth noting that it has a 45 minute counter instead of 30 and free sprung balance) and Breitling will soon come out with a new Kenissi based movement - according to rumors.... Rumors also have it that is was supposed to be in the new Superocean line but wasn't ready in time, so they needed to use Sellita. Chanel is using a smaller Kenissi made movement in their 33mm watches, it's called the 12.2, has 50 hours power reserve, COSC certified. In their 38mm watches and above they use the equally COSC certified J12.1 based on Tudor 56XX architecture - but the Chanel are small and elegant - so obviously that's possible. The MT5612 is used as the Breitling B20 and Tag Heuer TH30-00 and Norquain NN20/1 (in 40mm diameter and 12.55mm tall watches like the Neverest Glacier) and Fortis Werk 11. The Tudor GMT calibre MT5652 is used by Norquain as the NN20/2 and Fortis as the Werk 13. Bell & Ross uses the MT5621 based movement (formerly used in the North Flag) in their BR=X5

    • @koolpep
      @koolpep Рік тому

      @@PeteMcConvill see my response to Chris - Kenissi movements already power Chanel's J12 in 38 and 33mm as J12.1 and J12.2 respectively - very nice and slim. I am sure that Breitling will soon launch Kenissi based manufacture movements as well. Also Norquain was able to put the "chonker" MT56XX based movement in a 40mm 12.55mm case watch....

    • @PeteMcConvill
      @PeteMcConvill  Рік тому +2

      Agree - as I said (albeit not very clearly - criticism accepted) the slim movements are only used by Kenissi partners - Tudor and Chanel (given Bell and Ross are part owned by Chanel I wonder where that will go?), everybody else gets the fatty 56XX from the original BB and GMTs (or a derivative thereof). The only reference I can find to chanel using a 56XX is that the J12 uses a 56XX architecture which would also be true if it was a 54XX - which Im pretty sure it is. Even if Im wrong the chanel J12 equipped watches are all over 12.6 mm thick so these movements wouldnt fit in the superocean 36's or a bunch of other 35-36-37mm watches. It wouldnt even fit in a 42mm SOH 57 (which is under 10mm thick) or even the avenger (12.2mm) is slimmer than the chanels.
      The rumour mill is abounding with a few things and Im unsure what to make of it all. George Kern has stated Breitling will launch an inhouse movement in 2024. I've also heard that the superocean was intended to have an inhouse movement but it wasnt ready. That movement is supposed to be a form/fit replacement for anything fitting the 2824 envelope (so an MT5400 based calibre would work) . Kenissi/Tudor has announced a massive new factory increasing capacity AND many of the patents for the silicon bits have expired so perhaps 'in-house' is more 'manufacture' and the new breitling movements will be kenissi made or designed?

    Without the " hype" it means the watch is obtainable potentially alot quicker rather than begging your authorised dealer for a glance before its gone

    Personally, I am upset. To my taste, this is the perfect watch (manual wind, 40mm, clean no-date, 2 register chronograph dial, subtle colours), but couldn't get a burgundy and do not like the pistachio. But, of course I just bought something else 2 months ago! Had I known then this was coming, I would be ordering one today. So, personally, I would have preferred more hype.
    Having said that, I do appreciate a departure from the more typical overhyped 'New Release' product roll outs that, like this, are only a different dial or bezel colour.

  • @jameshoward9700

    Yeah, interesting. I think there is a more prosaic reason to a soft start like this: production and availability. Hype and hard sell needs product in shops the next day (pre-delivered and embargoed: Longines, Seiko, Tudor, TAG) - that takes huge production and logistical chops. Failure to do that either results in a wave of online hate, scalping, loss of momentum or all three. These difficulties were seen last year where Omega (and SWATCH) failed to put enough new watches on shelves. I suspect Breitling is at over-capacity for BO series watches (slow assembly) and is dripping product quietly out, first online, then to boutiques, then ADs... Hence the need for a volume-viable three-hander. I think we'll see this sort of thing from SWATCH group too - this launch flexibility is one reason they both left Basel.

      If you like the silver, check out the champagne version they've also released with zero publicity. I asked someone I know at the company over this and got some interesting news. Apparently they are selling fine, the ADs are reporting the inventory is moving quite well just relying on walkins and word and mouth and they dont wont to create angst over supply issues - so they've deliberately chosen not to publicise the launch.
