Same here. We used Curiosity Chronicles after using History Quest early into our homeschooling journey and I too was overwhelmed with all the options. They all are great but it's just alot. I missed the simplicity of History Quest and the History Hops but my son loves Curiosity Chronicles reading layout better so we decided to stick with it and I have learned how to use it best for us since. I am interested in switching back to History Quest for their new US History Curriculum for a year though. Great video!

great walk through! I really liked how you showed the progression of the books. I think a lot of people miss that each book is meant for a particular level. I too wish we would have started with Ancients in 3rd grade. I hope to get back to it with my younger daughter.

Thanks! I’m starting my son back on Ancients next year for fourth grade.

Ohhhhh.....so the book is actually larger now too. I really like that. We are doing Ancient right now and bought the add on pack. We also have the audio which makes it more interesting. My son really likes it.

We are currently doing PreHistory and will start this curriculum in about 2 months or so. I appreciate you sharing about not doing everything listed. I am a very all or nothing as well, but I do want to make sure I don’t overwhelm my kiddos. One is older and can hang, but I’ve got a younger child that I am combining and will need to slow down with. Thanks for sharing that you use this four days and what you are doing for your breakdown. It gives me a base for how to chunk up the learning.

What do you use for pre history?

@@nataliaturkowiak1603 We used Build Your Library. I also bought Blossom and Root, but my kids were not interested in a lot of the B & R suggested materials and it was a lot to plan, so I dropped it two weeks in. If I were to do it again, I would just get the Usborne Encyclopedia of History suggested by BYL and start at the pre-history portion and go at your own pace. My kids just wanted to read the Usborne Encyclopedia pages, look at the Usborne Quicklinks websites and videos available on the website by corresponding pages, and illustrate what they learned.

Do you have any social studies recommendations for First or Second grade?

Of all the things I’ve done, the one I would recommend for the younger grades is the primary source readers from Teacher Created Materials. I used them a few times. Here are two videos where I mention them:

You may be able to find them on eBay if those interest you.

Which do you prefer history quest or curiosity chronicles?

@@BetzyCarmona We prefer Curiosity Chronicles, but I did prefer the simplicity of teacher’s manual from HQ!
