That's really strange pricing. I know its dollars vs GBP but in the UK the XDJ-XZ can be had for £1900 and the Denon Prime 4 is £1625 so it's a price difference of only £275. Seems strange that Pioneer would sell it so high over in the states...
@@harrykirkwood6530 Yeah seems pretty odd. I could be wrong, but Pioneer might have more market share over Denon in the the US and can get away with it.
@@SehxualPanda Yeah it is strange for sure. The Prime 4 is closer to the 1:1 exchange rate a lot of businesses have resorted to (much to the UK's dismay - mostly because of Brexit) whereas the XDJ-XZ is priced pretty close to the actual exchange rate. At the end of the day I am not complaining because it allowed me to get my XZ for £1899 instead of a 1:1 rate of £2299 which would suck
Purchasing the Prime 4 is the best decision I made. Having moved from one pioneer controller to the other (sx, Sr, sx2) the prime 4 was a whole new experience, I had to get used to the engine prime software and also button placements on the unit. Serato has been compatible for a while now but I'm yet to try it cos I'm now so comfortable with the flexibility of the prime4, the Mic is the best I've used on a dj system and the sound quality is amazing. I recommend the Prime4 to anyone who wants a new experience. Forget all the online reviews about how the software doesn't compare to serato dj pro and rekordbox the engine software is flawless on the Prime4 never experienced any lags
This proves my point on the review video... Pioneer has released a more expensive unit with alot of compromised features compared with the prime 4. At this point it looks like Pioneer is playing catch up with Denon
A lot of the "draw" for the whole CDJ/Pioneer ecosystem lately seems to come down to a single argument - "club standard" and I wonder for how long that will hold up. Why not change the standard, if the competition is more clever? I have no experience on the Prime 4, but the SC players have been at the forefront since inception, and as of today I still believe they are superior to CDJs.
Digital DJ Tips Much rather watch a 20 minute video than, go out and waste time and money on getting one and not liking it. I agree with Glennford Braithwaite
@@digitaldjtips no such thing as a long video if it was actually informative and to the point.. I guarantee you that if you have stuff to talk about that's interesting, informative and to the point, people will watch it to the end... For everyone else! They should be able too cut up the video with the slider bar with ease if their Dj skills are up to scratch (pun intended) LOL.
I hope the prime software adds full color spectrum waveforms in the next firmware update. Rekordbox has done an outstanding job with displaying where phase transitions happen.
@@lamentpnw8662 I think you might be addressing an old version of prime engine.. the software is only for preparing (even if you can do it on the hardware).. Rekordbox was very buggy until it wasn't anymore ;) Actually the Prime engine is the only that allows you to convert from Traktor/ Serato or even iTunes without having to redo all the work you've already invested on the prior platform!? :)
I was one of the first ones to order the Prime 4 it has never let me down yet!!! My customer's are so amaze when they see it.. The 1st question they ask) "Where's the Laptop"? (My reply: Home!) The Prime 4 honestly sounds like it has a built-in Driverack inside, it's a huge difference in sound quality over my Ddj1000.
DJPOPA AL is the sound quality really that much better than the ddj1000? i have the ddj1000 and i'm really thinking about the prime 4...really thinking about it!!!! my main concern is the jog wheels...love the 1000 jogs and was wondering about the prime's jogs scratch wise and feel. what's your thoughts??
@@mardyd1 Yes, the sound quality is 101% better than the Pioneer Ddj1000, far as scratch wise it's ok but, not better than the Ddj1000 that's why I have 2 controllers. But, you should definitely get one and try it out. I love mines.
So basically apart from the lager jog wheels and use of 4 channels but only support 4 channels with external hardware which to me is a bit of a downfall that's what the xdj has to offer...don't get me wrong the bigger jog wheels are the selling point for me but the prime 4 is in a league of its own.
Both are great controllers but are aimed at different dj markets, prime 4 is aimed more at the mobile dj with its streaming services and separate output channel, where as the xz is aimed at the club/bar dj to practice there sets at home. It all comes down to what type of dj you are, and what your comfortable on.
Truth. Regardless of how much more you get for your money with the Prime 4, the fact remains that if you play in larger clubs, festivals etc., then 99 times out of 100 you'll be using a Pioneer Nexus II set up. Heaven help you if you're finally moving up to the big leagues and suddenly have no idea how to use the equipment. For the record, I own both Pioneer and Denon controllers so I'm not biased one way or the other.
The XZ is overpriced. That tiny ancient screen is awful, the loop and memory buttons outdated, the CPU and RAM very limited. Also no SD, SSD and WIFI, no full track buffering and on-board analysis. You can't use 4 decks or even do longer beat jumps than 8. For such an expensive unit released just a year ago this is unacceptable 🤦♂️ forums.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360055224552-XDJ-XZ-max-8-beat-beat-jump-Why-
@@m-stat9 Yeah, I fully agree. I really like the look and feel of the Pioneer, but the technology inside is just too dated for that price of $2200, I can't excuse that.
denon all day! pioneer dropped the ball on this one and continues its downward decline. pioneer can take their plastic garbage and gtfo in my book and ive only been playing records for 25 years and have seen it all .. i rock the denon sc5000 and denon mixer and have never been happier. looking to add the prime 4 to my arsenal soon. this new xdj is a HUGE FAILURE
Loving the P4!! I was using numark and used an XDJ rental while waiting for the P4 to arrive in shop and i seriously hated the thing and the prime was a step up in every way. The latest software updates to the hardware and software have redoubled my happiness with Denon.
I'll go ahead & wait to see what pioneer has to offer for next year. If Pioneer does come out with 1 that ACTUALLY does have a 4 deck stand alone with the same type of jog wheels as the Nexus 2, I might consider it. Will have to wait n see 4 now.
By then Denon will have a 6 deck standalone aimed at djs and producers. And be native to all software like they were in the past inc their own Engine Prime Daw versions Pioneer Dj Hq would be like... "your all fired" to their design team lol
I don't get it, why people asking for 4 channels, you have 2 extra plus the 2 controls built in so you have 4, if you need 4 channels plus 2 built in then you are going to mix 6 tracks and no one ever will do that..
I'm pretty much a Pioneer fan boy, I have the RX2 and was considering buying the XZ but after watching multiple review, the Denon is so much better with that ssd hard drive in the back and that screen.
Nobody realizes that the Pioneer XDJ-XZ is the answer to it’s own line of Pioneer DJ digital players, mixers and standalone systems within its own line of products. The XDJ-XZ was not an answer to Denon’s Stand-alone player; in fact it doesn’t need to nor should anybody be mad at Pioneer for making the wise choice to improve it’s own product. The cost of *2 CDJ-2000NXS and *1 DJM-900NXS2 is around $6,600 which is essentially what the XZ is emulating.
My thoughts exactly. In the end, its all on what you are trying to achieve. I want to be ready to spin at the drop of a hat and the majority of the clubs and bars are pioneer shops. Im buying this with that thought in mind.
True, Denon fanboys are dreaming if they think Pioneers as finished as 90% of these comments would suggest. Denons controller looks cheap and more like a toy, its OS still needs alot of work and its faders and jogwheels are terrible. Dont get me wrong, Pioneer need to step up their game but they're club standard for a reason.
any dj will adapt quickly with a different jog wheel than they used to!don't forget what denon prime 4 is offering here: lighter weight than pioneer 4 channels standalone u can use an sd card/usb and an integrated 2.5 inch ssd hard drive up to 1 terra capability of software updates and new functions all the way wifi integration for unlimited access of music thru platforms now you can use the full serato pro software with it multifunctional touch screen more effects on one channel than pioneer u can easily convert rekordbox playlists or even use them on denon (i am using it) and there is a significant function they didn,t talk about here:db out limit:when u set the volume limiter to a zero db no matter how much you raise the volume u will not here or feel the overload! it stays clean and clear ! so if u have amateur djs playing on the unit ur speakers will still be safe! finally quality: the denon has better sound quality then pioneer! u can test it urself if you have the 2 controllers plugged on the same line of speakers!
True about adapting quickly but human's are a fickle bunch and I know a tonne of DJs that simply don't care, they won't use anything that's not Pioneer...
Digital DJ Tips I was chatting to a guy in a DJ shop and he said Denon had an uphill struggle. His comment was anybody that plays on Denon doesn’t go back, but getting people to try it was seriously hard. I suppose that in our line of work trusting your gear is a big deal so you stick with what you know. Because of their “club standard” status, people start with Pioneer and then stick with them. Denon need to get the clubs and then have the range of gear so that people can buy the “starter” stuff and get hooked on the ecosystem. The thing to remember is that this Denon isn’t old Denon; it’s inMusic. They have the clout and desire to make this happen but it won’t be overnight. Old Denon stuff was brilliant - the first twin CD player, first “dual layer”, motorised platters. InMusic can leverage that legacy, but they just need to get stuff in clubs so that it becomes the standard and then have a range of cheaper units for people coming through. The Prime 4 is a really important part of that. Play on that when you’re practicing and go into a club with an X1800/SC5000 set up.
The pioneer/denon situation reminds me of apple/android. Pioneer fan boys will pay a premium for their equipment on technology that was released way before on competitor's devices.
Android devices haven't had a faster SOC for many years, remember that Apple was first to the game (between the two). Also keep in mind that you can put 64 gigabytes of ram on the phone, and then the battery would last 30 minutes. Smart phone performances and SOC performance not just based on arbitrary numbers, it's based on power consumption and thermal requirements.
@@vincentvandamme722 thats marketing nonsense. They use it because DJs became lazy and there hadnt been serious competition until 2017. The Denon decks are made of metal and have coated PCBs (!) which is some very advanced stuff for increased durability. Build quality is perfectly fine.
I own both right now and I feel the XZ has better jog wheels, the denon is way too touchy but after a few days of mixing with it you get used to the feel of the nudge and scratching. I think the main selling point on the Prime 4 is 4 actual decks without need for a computer , Sata compatibility, and the large 10.1 inch multi touch display.
As a working DJ I can honestly say having used pioneer exclusively before switching to denon that I always had a lot more issues with pioneer DJ equipment as compared to Denon. So reading comments about Pioneer so called holding up and being more reliable just seems like complete nonsense to me, and for sure it clearly shows there will always be people out there who will never accept anything being better than their pioneer setups. Yes the software still has a bit of a way to go but in terms of creativity and reliability with the players themselves ( cdj 2000 nxs 2 vs denon sc5000 prime ) the denons win all day long. With regards to the Prime 4 I've managed to have a few mixes on it and I must admit I really enjoyed it. One negative would be the jog wheels but it seemed very good to use otherwise. I can imagine the pioneer xdj xz would feel much smoother to mix with considering the jog wheels are taken from the 2000nxs2's, which personally slightly edge out even the sc5000 prime jogs, but, essentially, the fact you can only mix with 2 channels on the player itself with zero innovation as compared to denon makes it not worth it when comparing to the prime 4. A bonus for pioneer including the jogs however is the FX/color FX selection, pioneer have always excelled with this and I do prefer the FX on pioneer when comparing to denon. Having said that, Denon do listen to their customers and I'm sure soon will have an even broader selection of FX/Sweep FX to rival what pioneer has to offer. Personally, I'd love to see the sweep fx go from 4 to 8, perhaps a choice on utility to swap dub echo for crush etc etc. So taking everything into consideration I'd say besides the jogs on the prime 4s and the engine prime not being up to scratch just yet, but very usable and ever evolving, then it truly isn't even a contest. Sorry Pioneer / stubborn pioneer fan boys, the truth hurts but it is what it is.
When i started Djing i bought Denons DN 2000 MKII and later upgraded to their 2500 model so my lovestory with Dj-gear started with Denon. Nowadays i rock on a Pioneer Xdj - RX 1. I´m not after talking shit of any of the brands, but more leaving my 2 cents. Like everything else, in the end it´s your personel opinion on what you like your gear to do for you and what you´re willing to pay for it that´s gonna decide what you buy. I love my RX1 and i would like to upgrade to the XZ, but unfortunatly i don´t have the economi for it. And even do i love Pioneergear i feel that the they (like many other leading brands) sometimes overprice their merchandise or take advantage of their name to raise their prices for similar gear you can buy from other brands at a lower cost. At the same time, i got my moneys worth when i bought my RX, so go figure. But than again as i say, that´s a personel preference. I looked at the Prime and it looks like an awesome machine with some features i feel that the XZ lacks, like the touchscreen. So...to not rant on forever here´s my 2 cents: What ever gear you prefer, don´t talk shit about the other brand/s. If you really like Denon, tell me whats so amazing about it and don´t trash Pioneer or what ever brand you prefer, or vice versa. If you want me to convert, praise your gear, hallelujah! But for now, i´m a slave to Pioneer. But one never know if i have a change of heart in the future. But whatever gear you rock on, keep the fat beats coming and give the masses amazing music and a freaking wicked dance time! Love 2 U all and have an amazing weekend! // C
When you say catch up? do you mean Denons terrible OS and support, or its god awful faders? the list goes on. Yes Pioneer need to get off their high horse and give consumers more for their cash but ive used both and Pioneer def gives you an all round better experience.
I have had the SZ since day 1. I’ve preferred it over anything ever since I got it. 2 things I MUST have, Bigger Jog Wheels, and Dual USB control. Prime 4 looks amazing but I do a lot of vs/b2b sessions with DJs and having the SZ makes that possible.
Barbero1999 I Understand that, I have still not had the chance to get my hands on it and give it a test run to see how it compares to the seemless multi DJ switchoff. From what I’ve read of it and seeing the multiple USB inputs it’s most likely going to be fine. Just really wish those platters were 8” Maybe we will like it, maybe we won’t. Only testing can determine.
@@UDIHQ That's true, you have to test it. But then adding bigger jogs are going to make the prime 4 much more less portable, like the sz who weight much more. Is one or the other unfortunately when it comes to weight and portability
Barbero1999 I don’t mind the weight. It’s not 4 Tech 1200s and about 8 crates of records like I did for about 10 years prior to seeing the SZ come out and as a firm hater of CDJs I tried it out and fell in love. I’m actually trying to go back to vinyl, honestly. Lately, somehow serato and windows 10 no longer like each other and it pisses me off when I record 4+ hour sets and hear static over the mixes because of some issue (un-determined as to the source) between the two 😢 Hoping the Prime 4 lives up to the 6 hour session I’m going to throw at it.
Pioneer really needs to work on their pricing. You are basically paying for a name at this point instead of them being in the competitive marketplace. When they get this RX down under $1800 I may consider it.
Am a pioneer dj since the release of ddj sx but i might change my mind to denon prime as i feel its worth the money u pay plus its a real standalone unit with usb and flash drive and internal hdd .
Between the 10 inch screen compared to the 7 inch screen! The metal frame and The usb and internal hard drive plug ins and the cheaper price! Maybe Pioneer will wake up and see we are sick and tired of paying high costs for a name! Step aside Pioneer I am going with the the Prime 4 as soon as they come back into stock in September 2022!
😎😎 The prime four should come out with the (M) model for motorized platters. Just like the SC 5000s. I don’t know why companies don’t have controllers with them. I’m pretty sure people prefer them rather than jog wheels.
Sorry I've just clocked the price 😬 pioneer you are not thinking clearly.nearly 2 grand for the xdj xz and it's still has 66%plastic build😒🤔 I will save for the prime 4.sorry pioneer I think you really missed an opportunity to match or surpass the Denon but now I see the price no contest. Great review by the way as usual .Keep up the great work.🙏🏿
For what you get though it's a decent price, two Nexus style deck sections, a great mixer with lots of great features, a touchscreen and standalone capabilities all made by Pioneer for less than the cost of a single Nexus CDJ...
My whole music collection is in FLAC-Format and according to the Pioneer website, the XDJ-XZ does not support FLAC nor OGG files, which the Prime 4 does. Well, this was just another reason to order the Prime 4, besides the better bang for the money.
why would you go all flac on your music library? hard drives have been cheap as hell for the last 15 years...24 bit wavs are only a factor of 2 more in size...sorry that just seems misguided
@@darsure3006 It seems you do not understand FLAC-Files. They are losless compressed wav-Files. Of course you can convert 24-Bit Wavefiles up to 96 KHZ as well as FLAC. In contrast to mp3 FLAC do not lose any information from the original Wav. FLAC compress Wav files are about 50-to70% smaller than the original. And I collect music since almost 40 years now (Yes I am old) and my collection is about 1,5TB. Those sized hard drives were not even available 10 years ago. Plus FLAC have better support of tags, which wav didnt have at the beginning.
Denon dj is trash. I owned an mcx8000. It CRASHED on me at SEVERAL events. Eventually i told myself enough is enough and traded it in for a ddj-1000. BEST investment EVER!!! pioneer's software is FAR better than denon's in EVERY WAY. Denon has a looonnnggg way to go to catch up with recordbox. So far engine is atrocious..
My MCX8000 NEVER crashed on me once and its STILL running to this day. You must've had a dud mate, of which pioneer or any other company are prone to also.
I'm also extremely pleased with how my Prime 4 is running too, no issues whatsoever. Just wished they had a sample pad feature within software/hardware.
Yeah and even the cloud firmware update. Denon is geared for streaming as well. Pioneer not really. After watching this, the Denon Prime 4 sounds friggin awesome to buy soon!
Hi, One really important question for me. Is there any possibility to connect Pioneer RMX 1000 station to XDJ-XZ in same way like for example to DJM 900NXS2 ?? I would like to take full advantage of its possibilities. If yes for me will be perfect.
Love the Prime 4, this channels review sold me in on it. The only huge downside i seem to be having its the Engine Prime Software. I get it new, but its so buggy. Makes it REALLY infuriating to try and set up tracks on the PC. It freezes often, sometimes the sound doesnt match the waveform at all. More detailed, I hope they work on importing track information from other softwares more easier. Cues dont go through, nor the grid. Can't even edit track information, or add an album cover. Visual cues are helpful and Engine doesn't help with that.
It's disappointing for I use Pioneer. I am looking to upgrade and would love to hope they would make a 4 channel standalone. The XZ is oversize, overprice version of the DDJ 400.
@@digitaldjtips I love my DDJ 1000. Hook a Mac Pro up to it, that's all I need until Denon gets bigger jogs.......then maybe I'll take the plunge. I started with Technics way back, then got the first Pioneers, and the first Denon CDJs, Numark, most impressive has alway been Denon. They've done it again, but I need big jogs......
It's basically windows vs mac: do you want unparalleled technology that's cutting edge with features you can't get anywhere else (at least for the price) with a constantly improving ecosystem, or do you really just like rekordbox that much (can you tell where my bias lies?) I will say this however, the jog wheels on the xj are much cooler
I'm interested in this because most of the places I play are pioneer shops. Getting this setup would have you be the readiest I believe if you don't want to lug equipment around and are ok with using whatever the house uses. If you need full control and like carrying all the things then maybe you pick another way. I don't see any reason to hate on pioneer for doing an upgrade like this.
What is more important as a dj ? Hmmmm . Price is one of the most important , but also the functionality , size , display , built quality , effects , connectivity ............. Etc .... . So that being said Denon is the winner . Pioneer still cannot compare to that . Looking forward to see the upgrade of the cdjs , but i kinda don't see that they can beat Denon in that too . Denon did an amazing improvement on the dj scene with these models .
Pioneer is the choice of all the best clubs in the world, there must be a reason if there are 600 € of difference. For me Danon is a good standalone system but playing both there's no comparison in many things, freezing for first and look not at last
Car reviews are similar. Toyota Corolla vs a Hyundai i30. The reviewer would likely conclude the i30 is better because it has more features at a lower price. But the Corolla outsells the i30 by a significant margin. Denon may have thrown every feature at the Prime 4 but many won't see it as a contender to Pioneer DJ for a while yet.
So I took the plunge and ordered the XDJ-XZ. My reasoning for doing so is that it will be my first standalone unit and after doing weeks of research, I found that there were a significant number of people who have been very unhappy with the performance of the Prime 4. When spending £1500+ on equipment, I expect everything to work properly out of the box with no tinkering required. Also not to mention the current state of Engine Prime. I really wanted the Prime 4 to be the controller for me but I was willing to spend the extra £300 to get something I knew would work right away than something that can be buggy. Sure, I only have dual channel stand-alone but 9 times out of 10 that is enough for me and if I do need 4 channel capability, I don't mind plugging my laptop in. I feel like this is a pretty fair view on it and I am rooting for Denon to improve on the Prime 4 and force Pioneer to adapt quickly and meet the demand of DJs!
@@harrykirkwood6530 Great move! I had the mcx 8000 and had SEVERAL freezing issues. Which was a huge disappointment to me. So i i decided to trade it in for the ddj-1000(of course before the xz released fml lol) But so far i LOVE my ddj-1000! Great functionality/features on it. Plus the recordbox software is amazing imo. So far so good. No freezes or any of that just gotta make sure my computer is fresh and stable before events. I wish denon luck. But they've lost my trust.
@@DJBERASI777 Denon is definitely the competition Pioneer needs. In the last couple of years, DJ technology has come a fair way and I now get the feeling it will accelerate even faster from this point forward. I'm upgrading from the Pioneer DDJ-T1 an absolute relic of a controller and I've been hoping that Pioneer would add support for rekordbox but unfortunately they haven't so I have decided it's time to upgrade :)
If DDJ-1000 & Denon MCX8000 had a child.. that would tick all my boxes. 2 screens for the club feels, good jogs, standalone, 4 channel, compatibility with rekordbox, serato, whatever denon does & virtual dj one can dream
U sad that you have to convert your software to use the Denon DJ Prime 4, but it also reads your Rekordbox software so you don't have to convert anything
First of all nice review. Answer on your question: For me personal library features are more important then two decks. I have also some questions for you: What about the Master Level EQ's, SoundQuality of the Microphones and build in Soundcard comparisation? That is for me really important and I'm curious about your opinion :)
Hi Tim, the one thing we want to check on the soundcard is the phono preamps - they may be below standard, but we don;t know yet (judging by some previous units). Overall it sounds fine to us, same as RX and RX2. We haven't tested mic audio quality but I've never heard what I'd consider to be a bad mic stage on a Pioneer unit at this level, so I'm not worried about that. The master EQs are great.
@@digitaldjtips thanks! However, the mic channel on the ddj-1000 for example could be better in my opinion but I gues on this beast they will be fine haha.
On the outskirts looking in I went to Guitar Center I played around with the Denon Prime 4 I am undecided between the prime for in the Prime 2 I have a laptop but it is like 10 years old
@@digitaldjtips I wish I could actually confirm this but current rumours suggest that there may be a new release by the end of the year or early 2023. Let's hope this is true!
You can play 3/4 records standalone, you just can't do it all internally - whether or not it then makes the device pointless is completely subjective to you
@@cryptoplutonium7637 right. With Pioneer you can play 2 tracks from your USB stick and the other 2 channels are for outboard gear like individual CDJs, turntable, or some other audio source
My only take on this is that I'll will have a better performance with the XDJ-XZ in stand alone mode, because of the CDJ jog wheels, and using Rekordbox. But I'll be more prepared for the future with the Prime 4, because of the built in WIFI, multiple ways to load songs, "iPad like" screen...
Pioneer just needs to update the unit and ad a bigger screen and function like the prime4 . Denon needs to make a prime4 M , take the sc6000m 8.5 inch platers and put it on a prime4 . Boooom!!!
Wow! I’m super impressed with the Dennon for sure a 10” display $1699.00 or so compared to 3000? I’ve started with vinyl in the early 90s then a short time with pioneer CDJ 400s and CDJs in the 2000s, and the past 7 ish years with an SX2 1 of the first units in Canada with Sflip, video, extra fx, DVS and then, I bought pitch n time… wow! I’ll only change if it’s a complete standalone on all channels and current technology! The prime seems to be ahead at this point maybe pioneer will reinvent itself with new screens and the ability to adjust the screens it’s amazing on the Prime!
DJing is DJing regardless of the gear, pro DJs can play a set on whatever is in front of them. If you're worried rent/borrow some CDJs for a week and you'll be fine
I think it's all about WHO is it for...if you're buying for your bedroom, Denon might be ok...if you intend to play outside your house, Pioneer will what you'll get in every club, so you better be prepared with any Pioneer controller
It looks like you've messed up with the effects on prime 4. I don't have the unit so I can't be sure, but as I've seen in the reviews, it's not possible to link both sections to one channel at the same time. I've also never seen any info that these fx sections can be switched to 3-fx section rather than 1 effect - 2 parameters. So I believe you can only apply 2 effects at a track rather than 7. The only advantage of prime 4 over xdj-xz is that you can apply 2 beat fx to several decks simultaneously rather than one. It's also important to note that mojaxx said it's not possible to apply beat fx to external sources on prime 4 and I believe it's not the case with xdj-xz.
they offer different things.. denon offers an all in one 2 physical 4 digital decks... the concept of denon is get this go on stage only with this. pioneer offers is a DJM-900NXS2 mixer + 2 CDJ-2000NXS2 glued together in a standalone packet with the concept that wherever you are you have a minimum of 2 decks ready to rock standalone + option to add cdj's/pc whatever. and if you look it price wise denon set:2x SC6000 PRIME + X1850 PRIME 4020 euro => DJ Prime 4 1775 euro (-4 effects on prime 4) Pioneer set: DJM-900NXS2 + 2x CDJ 2k NXS2 5649 euro => XDJ-XZ 2085 euro (full 900nxs2 effects on both) if i had to pick personaly i would choose pioneer because it is like getting a full pioneer set for less than half the price but i see why someone would choose denon
Denon all the way. Touchscreen is far superior and many more features. The only thing for Pioneer is the jog wheels being motorized and normal size. To me that isn't as important as the accessibility of searching and getting to my tracks in a timely matter. I already have the MCX8000 by Denon. No way would I got to the Pioneer. MY BIGGEST QUESTION: SHOULD I UPGRADE FROM MCX8000 TO PRIME4???
@@digitaldjtips I think I found my answer in another video(can add SSD drive underneath)...., I wanted to know about if it has a standard stock hard drive built in.....
Because there’s nothing wrong with it? Basically people play with what they are used to, it’s a very difficult game to get people to change their habits.
They're still a bit expensive if you just like mixing every now and then when you actually have found (or produced) good tracks to put the effort in, but at least the price for a 4 channel mixing setup isn't as obscene as the stuff meant for clubs!
I used RX-2 until XDJ-XZ were released...what can I say... This stuff is perfect for me... Pioneer it's like Apple but in music industry. Everyone likes to hate it, while 95% of clubs use it... Nothing bad about Denon... Just opinion...
I have a question? I'm interested in this controller. But also in the Pioneer. xdj-xz. But I would like to have the option to add things. Such as a Akai MPC or a Machine. Perhaps something else. Are these 2 controllers. The right choice? if you want to do that? Is there one better for that then the other? Or let say I purchase the pioneer. Can i plug in a N.I. Machine and will it run in sync with Rekordbox? Or do i need like a pioneer sampler? Now normally whenever I see dj's play like that. adding sequencers and samplers. They use traktor. With a standalone mixer with send and return. But then the alternative would be either the S8. What I find a bit out-dated. And expect a follow-up to it in the future. Or the S4. What is a nice controller. But it kind of feels like a toy compared to those Denon and Pioneer beast. I don't travel. So the fact that they are huge is only a plus to me. PLease help?
@ Digital DJ tips... If you're going to post a "battle" of these units, your video is missing a lot of important features you forgot to mention on the Prime 4... Tidal, Wi-Fi (and more)etc. Better to make a longer video with in depth information for a real comparison between the two as I'm sure more people would appreciate and watch the video so they can make a more informed choice. IMO. 😉
As a person who purchased the prime for and have been using it for a number of weeks, I gotta be totally honest. The only shortcomings of the Prime 4 unit itself is that the bpm recognition of the unit self is lacking. out of 10 songs, a good 3-4 were recognized incorrectly. This wouldn't be an issue if you could change the bpm on the unit itself. No problem, you say. just go to the software, you say. well..... There is my second point. The Engine Prime software is......Not Ready. to put it lightly. and this is a year after release. I spent more time on the support forums than actually mixing on the Prime 4 because I literally could not get the Engine prime to perform its standard function properly. which is analyze songs and put them on a drive for use on the Prime 4. All in all, my experience with this unit has been lackluster. and honestly diminished the overall appeal of the Prime 4 (which I absolutely thought I would love!) to the point where i'm sending it back and going with the DDJ 1000. Rip Denon.
Thanks for weighing in, it is a shame you can't correct the BPM's directly on the unit - still it does a whole lot already and Engine is getting better all the time (the latest update was pretty substantial and less than a month ago)
@@digitaldjtips Perhaps I will revisit the Prime series after a few more iterations. I think maybe the software needs a bit of time to mature and come into its own. There are usually Hurdles in the infancy of cutting edge gear, but i hate feeling like i paid to be a tester for new gear. i did that with the Numark NV. we begged for featured and they put all the feature we asked for in the NV2 and left us NV owners out in the cold. at least thats how it felt.
Price point was a major issue you left out from the video.
$1699 vs $2299
Another win for the Prime 4
Fair point and true in regards to the pricing in different regions
In Canada. Denon Prime 4: $2,300. Pioneer XDJ-XZ : $3,200.
Every reviewer is tying hard not to offend the legion of pioneer's cultish followers. The debate ended long time ago: Denon is top.
Xz is a masterpiece made for professional dj and Caries and aura of rigidity p4 is great for simple uncomplicated venues with an upcoming mobile dj
Apart from the jog wheels denon is the best controller, its like comparing an iphone 6 vs an iphone 13
lol, those jog wheels are cute on the Denon
Very few peopl on earth know this bro 👍🏼
Haven’t seen any Denon gear in any club ever though.
Thanks for sharing Oscar, glad the Prime 4 is working out well for you 👍
What do you think about the jogs? You came for pioneer and this one is smaller... Its feel the same?
This proves my point on the review video... Pioneer has released a more expensive unit with alot of compromised features compared with the prime 4. At this point it looks like Pioneer is playing catch up with Denon
Yeah lots of people agree with you on this one
Could be a case of planned obsolescence
A lot of the "draw" for the whole CDJ/Pioneer ecosystem lately seems to come down to a single argument - "club standard" and I wonder for how long that will hold up. Why not change the standard, if the competition is more clever? I have no experience on the Prime 4, but the SC players have been at the forefront since inception, and as of today I still believe they are superior to CDJs.
Wow. I been trying to decide on this for months. You just did it for me. Prime 4 is it in 2020.
Awesome, glad we could help!
You left out price, tidal, WiFi, vertical/horizontal waveforms, firmware updates frequency
True, plenty of things we could have covered but would have made it a very long video

Much rather watch a 20 minute video than, go out and waste time and money on getting one and not liking it.
I agree with Glennford Braithwaite
@@digitaldjtips no such thing as a long video if it was actually informative and to the point.. Glennford.. 100% true bro.
I hope the prime software adds full color spectrum waveforms in the next firmware update. Rekordbox has done an outstanding job with displaying where phase transitions happen.

Prime 4 seems like the way to go since it has the better interface and the whole point of the product is to have a stand-alone unit
The screen of the Prime 4 is definitely much better than the XZ, a real pleasure to use

Both are great controllers but are aimed at different dj markets, prime 4 is aimed more at the mobile dj with its streaming services and separate output channel, where as the xz is aimed at the club/bar dj to practice there sets at home.
It all comes down to what type of dj you are, and what your comfortable on.
Yeah they'll definitely appeal to different DJs we reckon

For practicing at home it's a quite expensive choice, you could do with a RB or any rekordbox controller...
Denon - Crazy amount of useful features and modern tech, 4 full channels
Pioneer - Way better looking, better FX, Transition to the club easier
Fair summary, I did laugh that the first pro listed was "looks better" 😅
The XZ is overpriced. That tiny ancient screen is awful, the loop and memory buttons outdated, the CPU and RAM very limited. Also no SD, SSD and WIFI, no full track buffering and on-board analysis. You can't use 4 decks or even do longer beat jumps than 8. For such an expensive unit released just a year ago this is unacceptable 🤦♂️

denon all day! pioneer dropped the ball on this one and continues its downward decline. pioneer can take their plastic garbage and gtfo in my book and ive only been playing records for 25 years and have seen it all .. i rock the denon sc5000 and denon mixer and have never been happier. looking to add the prime 4 to my arsenal soon. this new xdj is a HUGE FAILURE

Also dying for to get the SCs and x1800 next !

....100%
I'll go ahead & wait to see what pioneer has to offer for next year.
If Pioneer does come out with 1 that ACTUALLY does have a 4 deck stand alone with the same type of jog wheels as the Nexus 2, I might consider it. Will have to wait n see 4 now.
DJ Miguel but it might be priced at 2499
they would have already done it if they could.
Time will tell
By then Denon will have a 6 deck standalone
aimed at djs and producers. And be native to all software like they were in the past inc their own Engine Prime Daw versions
Pioneer Dj Hq would be like... "your all fired" to their design team lol
I don't get it, why people asking for 4 channels, you have 2 extra plus the 2 controls built in so you have 4, if you need 4 channels plus 2 built in then you are going to mix 6 tracks and no one ever will do that..
My prime 4 runs a 4tb drive
Cool :)
Internal? Which one
Grant DJ that’s a little overkill don’t you think
I'm pretty much a Pioneer fan boy, I have the RX2 and was considering buying the XZ but after watching multiple review, the Denon is so much better with that ssd hard drive in the back and that screen.
The Denon is hard to ignore!
I'm buying xz...no clubs have denon
any dj will adapt quickly with a different jog wheel than they used to!don't forget what denon prime 4 is offering here:
lighter weight than pioneer
4 channels standalone
u can use an sd card/usb and an integrated 2.5 inch ssd hard drive up to 1 terra
capability of software updates and new functions all the way
wifi integration for unlimited access of music thru platforms
now you can use the full serato pro software with it
multifunctional touch screen
more effects on one channel than pioneer
u can easily convert rekordbox playlists or even use them on denon (i am using it)
and there is a significant function they didn,t talk about here:db out limit:when u set the volume limiter to a zero db
no matter how much you raise the volume u will not here or feel the overload! it stays clean and clear ! so if u have amateur djs playing on the unit ur speakers will still be safe!
finally quality: the denon has better sound quality then pioneer! u can test it urself if you have the 2 controllers plugged on the same line of speakers!
Very good points, would love to see a beginner Prime controller
Have you heard how the XDJ-XZ sounds ? Well , I own a pioneer XDJ-XZ and the sound output is awesome , much better than ony other controller.
DeeJay Pajtim i cannot argue with that as i did not try yet the controller :)
The pioneer/denon situation reminds me of apple/android. Pioneer fan boys will pay a premium for their equipment on technology that was released way before on competitor's devices.
Thanks for watching Matthew
Android devices haven't had a faster SOC for many years, remember that Apple was first to the game (between the two). Also keep in mind that you can put 64 gigabytes of ram on the phone, and then the battery would last 30 minutes. Smart phone performances and SOC performance not just based on arbitrary numbers, it's based on power consumption and thermal requirements.
It's all about build quality where Denon really lacks. In all clubs they user Pioneer for a reason.
@@vincentvandamme722 thats marketing nonsense. They use it because DJs became lazy and there hadnt been serious competition until 2017. The Denon decks are made of metal and have coated PCBs (!) which is some very advanced stuff for increased durability. Build quality is perfectly fine.
bro. pioneer not even care about technology lol. see how much they give you after rx2 release? nothing but bigger jog and x2 price lol

It's a great bit of kit :)
I sold my Prime 4 due to bad Quality.
did you dig into the cross-faders? that's VERY important to me...
Thanks for watching ;)
Still using my XDJ-RX, always loved pioneer's build quality & familiarity. Definitely will get the XZ in the near future
Nice one 👍
Thanks for weighing, we all have our preferences that's for sure :)

they will release an 8 channels mixer no one wants before check this out 🤣
the screen on the Denon Prime 4 is the same screen found in the Akai MPC X ! so I won't say is a new screen..
Fair enough, new to DJ gear though and much (much) better than the screen on the Pioneer :)
For me two of the controllers have good and bad but the most important thing is the price
What do you mean? You can use 4 usb, sd card and internal hardrive on the prime 4. Even all four channels
Barbero1999 I Understand that, I have still not had the chance to get my hands on it and give it a test run to see how it compares to the seemless multi DJ switchoff. From what I’ve read of it and seeing the multiple USB inputs it’s most likely going to be fine.
Just really wish those platters were 8”
Maybe we will like it, maybe we won’t.
Lately, somehow serato and windows 10 no longer like each other and it pisses me off when I record 4+ hour sets and hear static over the mixes because of some issue (un-determined as to the source) between the two 😢

One really important question for me.
Yeah the software is definitely the weak link for Denon at the moment

@@digitaldjtips I love my DDJ 1000. Hook a Mac Pro up to it, that's all I need until Denon gets bigger jogs.......then maybe I'll take the plunge. I started with Technics way back, then got the first Pioneers, and the first Denon CDJs, Numark, most impressive has alway been Denon. They've done it again, but I need big jogs......
@@i1539 LoL people who go for the bigger jogs might be trying to make up other shortcomings LOL.. The ultimate question is what?
I thought it is a battle between the standard, ones; why involve the DDJ-1000? It isn't standalone
The only thing I’ve heard is that the sound effects are much realistic on the pioneer. Regardless, Prime is the best way to go.
Pioneer FX do have a lot of fans!
Pioneer looks so outdated compared to Prime 4. Also, you have not mention price..
SSD is for me huge step in DJ industry.
I like the fact that mobile users also have a 2 two channel little brother with the denon prime 2. Denon for the win when checking off boxes.
And then the little "Go" unit as well :)
Extremely newbie here but I like the external sata drive on the back. Totally stand alone unit.
Yeah the Prime 4 is awesome :)
It's basically windows vs mac: do you want unparalleled technology that's cutting edge with features you can't get anywhere else (at least for the price) with a constantly improving ecosystem, or do you really just like rekordbox that much (can you tell where my bias lies?)
I will say this however, the jog wheels on the xj are much cooler
The Prime 4 is really a no brainer imo.
Nice one Tommy :)
Denon prime 4 all the way......Love it Thank you Denon.
Both controllers are great but xz caries an aura of professionalism despite lacking shiny ornaments found on p4
It certainly does look the part
Pioneer is the choice of all the best clubs in the world, there must be a reason if there are 600 € of difference. For me Danon is a good standalone system but playing both there's no comparison in many things, freezing for first and look not at last
I imagine it was difficult to stay neutral in this comparison when one unit so thoroughly outclasses the other.
We like both so easier than you think, just giving the facts about each so people can make their minds up :)
But there is only one 4 channel stand alone in this video😅
Sort of haha :)
If DDJ-1000 & Denon MCX8000 had a child.. that would tick all my boxes.
2 screens for the club feels, good jogs, standalone, 4 channel,
compatibility with rekordbox, serato, whatever denon does & virtual dj
one can dream
Sounds good!
U sad that you have to convert your software to use the Denon DJ Prime 4, but it also reads your Rekordbox software so you don't have to convert anything
Good unbiased review Thank You
No problem :)
On the outskirts looking in I went to Guitar Center I played around with the Denon Prime 4 I am undecided between the prime for in the Prime 2 I have a laptop but it is like 10 years old
If in doubt I'd go for the Prime 4
The Denon definitely set the new standard so well see what the upcoming XZ2 will have in store.
Do you know something we don't, Eugene? ;)
@@digitaldjtips I wish I could actually confirm this but current rumours suggest that there may be a new release by the end of the year or early 2023. Let's hope this is true!
If the denon had a sampler, larger jog wheels, and soft pads I would buy one today, guess I'll wait.
Perhaps in a MK2 :)
Question: doesnt not being able to play 3 or 4 records stand alone COMPLETELY destroy the purpose of getting a 4 channel stand alone?
You can play 3/4 records standalone, you just can't do it all internally - whether or not it then makes the device pointless is completely subjective to you
@@digitaldjtipsCheers for the response. So you would basically need a laptop if you want to use more than two channels simultaneously ?
No but that's one way, you can DJ off of two channels standalone internally and then hook up turntables or CDJs to the other two channels
Wait, what? So you can't play 4 wav tracks from the ssd or memory stick at the same time? Deck 3 and 4 are only external?
@@cryptoplutonium7637 right. With Pioneer you can play 2 tracks from your USB stick and the other 2 channels are for outboard gear like individual CDJs, turntable, or some other audio source
My only take on this is that I'll will have a better performance with the XDJ-XZ in stand alone mode, because of the CDJ jog wheels, and using Rekordbox. But I'll be more prepared for the future with the Prime 4, because of the built in WIFI, multiple ways to load songs, "iPad like" screen...
Pros and cons to each for sure!
you always look proper stoned in these videos, lol
Pioneer just needs to update the unit and ad a bigger screen and function like the prime4 . Denon needs to make a prime4 M , take the sc6000m 8.5 inch platers and put it on a prime4 . Boooom!!!
Easy! :)
Denon are doing some awesome work :)
So when I own a prime 4 and get to play clubs will you not struggle if lack confidence
DJing is DJing regardless of the gear, pro DJs can play a set on whatever is in front of them. If you're worried rent/borrow some CDJs for a week and you'll be fine
The Denon is made better and sounds better however the pioneer is more user friendly btw I own the denon!! This comes from experience
Thanks for weighing in Vince!
I just can’t get use to the denon jog wheels. Got use to the CDJ 1000 and 2000 weight
With some time you'd adjust we're sure :)
I would love to buy the XDJ-XZ.....but I need a real 4 Standalone Chanel and a bigger screen.....so Pioneer come on !!!! We are tired with waiting !!
Looks like you'll be waiting a while Sacha
@@digitaldjtips Well I can still wait...and use my RX.... so.....no problem ;-)
can someone help me by awnsering what would be the better unit for incorporating two technic turntables with while also using usbs?
When denon make a bigger jog wheel one.. then its 90% CHECK MATE.. also i wonder if small size all in ones will ever come out
Would definitely like to see some smaller standalone units, we hear it a lot as well so definitely a market for it
I think it's all about WHO is it for...if you're buying for your bedroom, Denon might be ok...if you intend to play outside your house, Pioneer will what you'll get in every club, so you better be prepared with any Pioneer controller
It's also important to note that mojaxx said it's not possible to apply beat fx to external sources on prime 4 and I believe it's not the case with xdj-xz.
they offer different things..
denon offers an all in one 2 physical 4 digital decks... the concept of denon is get this go on stage only with this.
pioneer offers is a DJM-900NXS2 mixer + 2 CDJ-2000NXS2 glued together in a standalone packet with the concept that wherever you are you have a minimum of 2 decks ready to rock standalone + option to add cdj's/pc whatever.
and if you look it price wise
denon set:2x SC6000 PRIME + X1850 PRIME 4020 euro => DJ Prime 4 1775 euro (-4 effects on prime 4)
Pioneer set: DJM-900NXS2 + 2x CDJ 2k NXS2 5649 euro => XDJ-XZ 2085 euro (full 900nxs2 effects on both)
if i had to pick personaly i would choose pioneer because it is like getting a full pioneer set for less than half the price but i see why someone would choose denon
They're both great bits of kit that is for sure
Denon all the way. Touchscreen is far superior and many more features. The only thing for Pioneer is the jog wheels being motorized and normal size. To me that isn't as important as the accessibility of searching and getting to my tracks in a timely matter. I already have the MCX8000 by Denon. No way would I got to the Pioneer. MY BIGGEST QUESTION: SHOULD I UPGRADE FROM MCX8000 TO PRIME4???
Personally I'd say yes but if it ain't broke and all that!
I'm now in the same situation! So how was the transition from MCX to the prime 4? Was it worth it?
Is the SSD as standard internally or external? Great review btw
Can you clarify what you're asking please?
@@digitaldjtips I think I found my answer in another video(can add SSD drive underneath)...., I wanted to know about if it has a standard stock hard drive built in.....
@@Onkarr You have to buy the SSD separately but it is an internal SSD not an external, just to clarify
@@K.mersch thanks mate 🏅
Prime 4 is Compatible whit Rekorbox in the Future???
Unlikely
Prime 4 is the winner here, esp. because of the 4-channel system. Add two turntables and you are good to go in both worlds!
It's definitely an awesome unit
I am a denon user myself... The question still remains why is it when you see live gigs most DJ's are playing on Pioneer equipment in front of them?
Because there’s nothing wrong with it? Basically people play with what they are used to, it’s a very difficult game to get people to change their habits.
They're still a bit expensive if you just like mixing every now and then when you actually have found (or produced) good tracks to put the effort in, but at least the price for a 4 channel mixing setup isn't as obscene as the stuff meant for clubs!
Yeah you can get away with a whole lot less if you're not a pro (and even then)
Good video , thanks
Welcome!
I used RX-2 until XDJ-XZ were released...what can I say... This stuff is perfect for me... Pioneer it's like Apple but in music industry. Everyone likes to hate it, while 95% of clubs use it...
Nothing bad about Denon... Just opinion...
Yeah Pioneer make great stuff :)
Good information with a neutral opinnion, well done.
Thanks!
Can I use Recordbox or Serato software with prime 4 ?
You can use Serato with the Prime 4
im going to give it next year to see whats what at this point
Yeah if you're not in any rush that's not a bad idea
I love my Denon Prime 4 = wi fi, 3 usb+ sd card + tidal on line music & more...🤣
It's awesome!
We answered you on your other comment :)
@@digitaldjtips I know. Sorry to kept asking. Never expected you truly read all the comments. Just shows how great you guys are ;)
The Roland DDJ-707M has all inputs and functions but no one is talking bout that...
We have a full review on that unit, but it is not a standalone like these.
IMO. 😉
Thanks for the feedback, DJCasanovaToronto.
Fair enough, definitely keep one eye out!
