Congrats man, just found your content this evening. I did this challenge on my own accord on Dark Souls 2 a few months ago. To also include - I did not let myself fight the boss or go to the next area until I had every piece of equipment prior to it. Meaning each piece of armor and enemy dropped weapon, etc.. was long, but it was fun :)
Very good video, your DS1 video inspired me to get every weapon in DS1 as well, I got them all I just need to more chunks and slabs, also will we see you max every weapon in Best Souls 2 Next or Elden Ring?
Yippee, unnecessarily convoluted challenges in Dark Souls games! Especially when it's a sequel that I already enjoyed. Also, completely unrelated, but we have almost the exact same number of subscribers at the moment I'm writing this comment, I just think that's funny.
Haha indeed, I didn’t say it here but in the ds1 version, I said it was right on the border of interesting and stupid, which make for the best type of video! I’ve noticed that as well, it’s only right I suppose considering we both had similar videos blow up at the same time! And both redid those same videos afterwards haha
Definitely on the docket at some point, I’ve got plans for a different ds2 video soon (part of the Backlogs 2nd contest!) and want to do a Demons Souls video as well in the interim, similar to my first math souls video for dark souls.
I am by no means a good player, but I dont know about putting demon prince on par with Midir. At least for me, Midir took me a long time of hitting my head against the wall until I understood I had to play the fight at his pace (probably over 40-50 attempts, and still a while after that to put together the pieces (likely north of 60-70). I beat the demon prince within my first 10-15 attempts and I understood his patterns in about 5-8. DS3 was my second game in the series, if that context is relevant.
Would it be easier to mass farm souls from the winged knights on the roof of the grand archives? Or do the chunk drops from ringed knights make that farm faster. Also, since you need to do multiple NG+ cycles anyway, would it be easier to wait until later cycles and upgrade all at once? Unless you wanted to upgrade the NG weapons in NG, which I understand. Great content, as always
I’m honestly not sure, I think the Ringed City farm is probably faster, mostly because it’s easier to kill the knights (big weapons stun them on hit), but I can’t say for certain. Idk how many souls you get per 3 ascended knights, but I think it was roughly 1,000,000 souls per hourish of farming plus chunks. It’s probably a little faster to go to NG+ for farming if I had to guess? The real limiter is was actually lack of twinkling and scales towards the end of the farm. Ended up farming rock lizards in arch dragon peak
Can’t wait to see you do this in elden ring and have to do like… at least 20-25 cycles for the ancient smithings? Idk the exact number of cycles, I’ll leave the math to you lmao
Haha someone else asked, I actually think it would only take 10/11 cycles. There’s 23 regular and 18 somber I think and like 350+ weapons? I wonder if the ratio puts it exactly at 1/10 of the weapons per game cycle, that would be pretty interesting!
@@trevthedev6134 oh wow! I thought there were significantly less normal ancient dragons smithing stones than that. I guess I severely underestimated the dlc on that part! And that would be really cool if it ended up being exactly ten cycles
farming for some of the items in elden ring will be completely arduous, I can tell you from experience doing it myself. I didn't wind up maxing out all my weapons (yet), but I did collect everything I can on one cycle and plan on finishing my 100% collection file at some point, but getting at least one copy of every weapon in the game to +25/10 is going to take numerous NG+ cycles due to the sheer volume of weapons in the game. I'm curious, now, myself, how many cycles that will take. Surely more than NG+7...
Wikis say there are 21 regular and 14 somber per cycle. I dunno offhand how many of each there are, but considering there’s like 350 weapons it’s probably NG+9 or 10
I think your upgrade material farming method was really suboptimal. The ascended knights at the top of lothric drop around 26k each souls on ng+, with soul boosting gear you're getting 170% more souls. With three ascended knights per trip you're getting ~210k souls or 16.2 titanite chunks per trip if you're buying them from the handmaiden. They also drop chunks though nowhere near as often as ringed knights. Still, this farm is probably quicker than your run through the ringed city and nets 2-4x as many upgrade materials per run. If you pushed into higher ngs for the twin princes' weapons the farm would have been even faster. Honestly, if you chose this farm going to ng+3 might have been faster than just staying at ng+.
I'm not totally certain how soul multipliers work but I believe they stach multiplicative. Even if my numbers are wrong and its more like 150k per run or something I still think farming the ascended knights would be way faster than the ringed knights.
It’s definitely possible, though I think it’s easier to farm knights because you can hit stun them with bigger weapons and it’s easy to fight them one at a time. I would estimate that I was getting ~6-8 chunk per run, and each run was maybe 5 minutes at most? So with the souls as well, I think it would be roughly 3 runs on the knights compared to 1 run for the ascended knights. Not sure how long it would take to kill all 3 in NG+ and higher. Fwiw I have 0 doubts that this run can be optimized quite a bit. I would guess if someone truly got down to it, you could probably hit sub-50 hours.
Yeah they are multiplicative. Symbol of avarice + silver ring+3 + dual Mendicant Staves (or shield of want) is a 2.916 soul multiplier. Not sure what the NG+ modifier is for the Archive game area, but it’s usually not super high for late game areas. Probably like 20-30%.
@@trevthedev6134 I tested it because I was curious. I don't have a character at ng+, but I do have one at ng+3, the supposed ideal point to soul farm if you got every weapon. I skipped the mendicant staff because this character is strength so that would have slowed me down. Also just being strength slowed me down, I figure a dark build is probably best for getting those sweet backstab, tho maybe a mage would end up being best because the mendicant staff likely makes up the difference in time to kill. Also this character is sl 125 so underleveled for ng+3. In any case, a more optimized build could cut a decent bit off the run. The three knights netted me 213,231 souls and from standing up at the bonfire to loading back in after homeward boning post-kills the round trip was 2:35 netting you 4,952,462 souls or 381 chunks an hour. The total cost of all the upgrade materials is 51,169,800 meaning that even disregarding the upgrade materials dropped from the ascended knights you'd have all the souls you'd need in about 10.33 hours. This disregards the actual cost of upgrading the weapons I but figure the drops must at least make up for this so I'll call those two variables a wash. With a more optimal setup I wouldn't be surprised if you get get all your farming done in closer to 8.5 hours.
Good to know. I guess I didn’t really have it in mind that I wanted to do as many as I could on the first NG cycle, but I kinda ended up doing that in hindsight. If nothing else I’m 100% sure that the albernauric farm in ER at NG+7 is gonna be the most optimal route for stone purchasing
Honestly collecting everything is pretty interesting. Ds3 has some quest line stuff that makes this interesting, like there’s a 10+ weapons that require Greirat to pillage / Patches questline and some other stuff
Yeah I was thinking it was 2/4/8 not 6, I double guessed myself a few times haha. I even changed that graphic last second from 6 to 8. I blame it on streamer brain as they say
Would it be faster to grind for souls rather than grind out enemy drops? Im not necessarily too familiar with the glitches in ds3, but is there a way to duplicate high yielding souls?
I think you can dupe boss souls using a method similar to tumble buffing? But I think it s still faster to grind materials because of the sheer volume. Could be wrong though
Rellanas for sure, I used those for a good chunk of my first dlc playthrough. The dancers swords are really bad unfortunately, probably a bottom 30 weapon in DS3.
Interesting that that’s your takeaway here. I did it this way as I don’t feel it added much to go through multiple game cycles to collect 200+ slabs, as someone who would be doing something like this (e.g., for pvp purposes) would almost certainly dupe slabs. That was my approach anyhow. I’m gonna have to run through cycles in Elden Ring though for sure
Mostly cause the run back versus the potential reward was slower than the ringed city knight. I think the souls would probably be higher, but I was getting at least 4 chunks per knight run, sometimes twice that many, and they can drop scales. That and you can poise stun the knights but not the winged knights, so it was easiest to clear them out.
27:12 I believe that you only need 12 of each shard/large shard/chunk
