Kalameet is gated by Artorios because you need Gough to shoot him down to actually fight him. Otherwise he just stays in the air carpet bombing the arena with fire breath soon as you set foot inside

(another comment lol) I think the tier list of game weapons by DPS output against late game bosses is a cool idea, specially for me since Dark Souls is my comfort game (ironically) so I always go back to it regularly and I love trying out new weapons and new builds and seeing things, would be fun to look at some alternatives I'm yet to consider (and well, I suppose that something similar for all the fromsoft titles would be neat too)
Super entertaining video, with great gameplay, and excellent commentary. Thanks for finding all that stuff out! Can't wait to see what other videos you make and have made. P.S. You should show off your whole build and stats at the end. Armour, levels, etc.
That Kalameet fight had me on the edge of my seat. Manus looked like it was getting pretty dicey too in some spots. I played Dark Souls right when it came out because I had a boner for fromsoft in high school because of Demons Souls and you, a dude who just started playing these games last year taught me something about damage scaling. Keep up the good work, your RTSR video blew my mind.
Cool run! Gives a sense of what Fromsoft was expecting players to be using. Think you could optimize a little better by changing from damage per hit to damage per second in your weapon selection.
Damn i just found you and i was listening blind and i just assumed the bloodborne ones were already out and dark souls 3 .. i check and this video droped like a day ago lmao cant wait to see more!
Seeing that absolutely absurd defense formula makes it even funnier that Joseph Anderson got mad at Breath of the Wild and Dragon's Dogma for not working the same way he (thought) DS worked
I find it silly when people complain that "Dark Souls is too hard, it needs an easy mode" when the game has so many different ways to completely break its difficulty. The game already has an easy mode, it's called being resourceful.
This game is hard for people who haven't played it more than a couple hours... I'm currently finishing an SL1 run to replace my SL5 darkwraith I built on PS3 (rip... YLoD). Even after not playing the game for a few years I can still parry and backstab most enemies without a problem. I think people think the game is hard because they're intimidated and think dying is bad.
Is there a reason why you didn’t pick faith? I thought you would go with something like int until you can get your hands on the miracle, hence the deprived class. You can glitch both souls for infinite levels and proof of a concord kept, allowing you to have a darkmoon blade at max covenant level surpassing the crystal catalyst, you can also switch to sunlight blade for bosses resistant to magic damage (or just alternating between the two in NG+). Power within also synergies well with weapon buffs Edit: oh and the dragon+ ring buffs, forgot, thought at that point, it becomes impractical
For the maximum DPS run, people have been recommending the painting guardian sword with a maxed out darkmoon blade buff forever. It's a grind and a half to get both of those, but I wonder how it actually stacks up.
Hey man I really enjoy your content and effort. This video is amazing. One little note tho. You should adjust your mic input sensitivity so we dont hear you breathing. Great video and awesome work. Sorry for being mean someone just needs to say it.
No worries about the feedback. I'm using a headset with no filter and I don't love the breathy feedback either. May get a new mic soon or at lest see if I can get a slip-on filter
Enjoying the video! Really satisfies my dark souls love while combining it with my inner dnd powergamer. One curiosity I have is you mentioned how split damage is just worse in so many situations, how would the tumble buffing glitch from OG DS1 impact its viabiility? I remember I used to do a mage with a lightning uchi + gltiching crystal weapon onto it as my base replay character typically.
Hmm well adding a weapon buff is always better than not and usually better than an infusion, but I would guess that against most enemies a +15 with CMW would probably out damage a lightning one with the tumble buff. I am curious based on your comment however how a lightning weapon buffed with sunlight blade or gold line resin would work. Would the lightning damage instances be calculated separately or would they be calculated as one? This will be part of my upcoming video, but innate weapon damage uses the Motion value of the weapon (so a 2-handed attack would be multiplied by 1.2) where a added buff isn’t multiples at all, so with split damage that is an interesting edge case.
Lmao I don’t know if I should take that as a compliment. I tend to put on a voice unintentionally when doing voiceover for this stuff that I think I borrow from doing sports pbp stuff.
Standing next to Quelaag's spider head (between the head and the leg) is actually a mostly safe place, her sword attacks cannot hit you from there Im pretty sure. At the very least the times Ive stood there she has not been able to.
I actually think it's nice that you didn't use rtsr or pw because those can be a bit tricky to use as a casual player, also it would have been nice to see the damage setup (weapon name, weapon upgrade, buffs) alongside all the numbers on the screen, I know the info is in the voice over but having all the info on screen at all time would make it easier to follow now I'm jealous I don't have some cool dark souls video ideas like you just to give myself an excuse to replay this game
Yep always working to improve graphics for upcoming stuff! I think throwing important damage stats in the top right will be helpful (did this for the manus catalyst video). I am used to having 99 in everything for my NG+++++++ one shot videos so it didnt really matter there.
Hmm I don’t know if it’s the same exact formula but it’s pretty close. There are definitely some benchmarks you want to hit once you get to certain areas but I’m not sure what they are exactly
"going to avoid tail cut weapons as they're not guaranteed" yes they are also pinwheel that early is absolutely not the intended route, you're directed towards the undead church, and blighttown at the same time, you're only directed towards pinwheel after you get the lordvessel, npcs in the game have dialogue, which you're blatantly ignoring and i'm not sure why
5:00 We can not reliably get the master key THE THIEF STARTS WITH MASTER KEY. You can have bombs and master key, this is common for some glitch set ups.
Also this isn't me trying to call you out. Obviously to do all this maths you're far smarter than I am, but it would be interesting to see this done with the master key and cheesing.
i am almost positive you can get to andre without the master key, reliably...just not easily. now i could be wrong cause i dont remember the full details but if i am not mistaken you only need the master key to get into the valley of the drakes from firelink shrine, but you can get into new londo ruins. if you follow new londo ruins and open the door draining the ruins you can then leave through that area, go up the tower straight across the bridge, go through the darkroot basin and up into the undead parish. its super roundabout but doable.i always think of that route when i hear people say something like "cant use the back entrance to blight town cause i didnt grab the key" like yes you can, you just have to go the super long route through the parish, through the basin, and through the valley of the drakes. now where i might be wrong about getting to andre is that i just dont remember if you need the key from ingward in order to drain new londo ruins. if you do need his key then according to the rules of this run yes you couldnt make that trip but if you dont need the key to drain it then its a 100% viable route to take its just ridiculous hard at early levels cause those ghosts will mess you up.
@user-sd9dk5ir7v ah, I couldn't remember that part so I wasn't sure. I know I did get the key from him the legit way but I couldn't remember if that was purely to access the 4 kings or if that was to open the gate.
It would be interesting to see it optimized still without the master key, but with not following normal progression. You can get +5 in undead burg by farming hollow soldiers for titanite and going to the sorcerer blacksmith in new Londo ruins.
@@trevthedev6134I just got into the soulsbourne series so I’ve been watching a lot of content (not watching spoilers though). I’ve only got Tomb Of The Giants before I finish DS1. I beat Demon’s Souls first and I didn’t like it at all. It almost discouraged me from the rest of the souls games.
That is the second weapon with the most damage that I found, the first is the enchanted great ax at +5 which with all the same improvements does 1857 base damage 💀
FYI, darkmoon blade out damages crystal magic weapon. It just requires a significant farm if you don't pvp or dupe the items necessary to +3 the covenant.
could do a souls mimic challenge, where you pick one of the games and you have to gear yourself to near match the boss for the area? use same weapon/weapon type, use similar armor Or even a rebellion run, play as a foot soldier and only use standard soldier/knight equipment.
Yeah I did have a couple of mistakes in some routing that could’ve been improved and am planning to correct in an upcoming ‘redo’ where I do optimized dps instead of raw damage output
Hmm you know what you’re probably right? I had it in my mind I needed the master key to get down there early but i don’t think that’s actually correct. At least it’s just a single boss haha
If you try the opposite of this run. (Worst possible damage/stats) sl1, broken straight sword with no durability, no armor, no shields, no buffs. It sounds like torture but it could be a great challenge
Haha I don’t know if I want to do that. I might do a ‘best-worst’ style run where I still go through the game and get as strong as possible while using the worst damaging weapons outside of meme run weapons (straight sword hilt, broken straight sword, skull lantern, etc.)
@trevthedev6134 yeah, I totally wouldn't wanna attempt the worst damage possible run either. Just a funny idea, I do really like the best-worst damage run idea a lot more.
It might have been obvious by now, but if you jump attack while you're plunging attack, you can occasionally double-dip and do some extra damage if the weapon hit box collides with the enemy before the plunging attack animation starts playing. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that the best weapon buff in the entire game is Darkmoon Blade, it has a higher magic adjust with enough Concord Kepts, oh, and you forgot to get Power Within after killing Quelaag man.
Yeah I did make some mistakes so optimized isn’t the right word for this video in hindsight. Working to try and make it a little better when I return to do a DPS run instead of damage only
Enjoying the video (just saw you handle the moonlight butterfly), but how are you working with levels? Do you have a level cap per boss you aim for, or is it just whatever stats you have when you get to a boss? Apologies if I missed that information.
Nah I didn’t really explain it. I probably could’ve thrown them up here and there but I basically went about 3 levels per boss on average, making sure to hit soft caps in vitality and endurance along the way. I think I finished around 48 strength and like 40 int!
i was 99% sure, darkmoon blade does more damage. Not that those 2 extra dmg would be worth going the route of farming 50 souvenirs from the crows and only having a single cast, and having to switch from int to fth.
I feel that for when you showed the formulas at the start, it would have been helpful to show the continuous function graphed, so that we can see visually which parts of the function might grow faster than others
With DPS optimization I wonder if it's possible to include attack timing (so, how much time an attack takes (including a bit to run up to hit) and how many of boss's attacks provide required timespan. It is a more specific information though
I'm not even a minute into the video; and I each DO NOT find your speaking voice annoying, DO think this concept seems fun, and might even try this run myself! I'm gonna like and sub even before 0:20 into this video, because I can already see the potential for a good show from someone worth supporting. Stay metal, Trevor.

Youre so good at this game because of your knowledge and at the same time so bad! I love it and im very frustrated by the gameplay too 10/10 vid
Not to sound too elitistic but him midrolling against some (early) bosses like against Quelaag was annoying
@@RandomGameClips27 hahaha yeah I got terminal cancer by it ahahaha I loved the video
that he is kinda bad makes it better, shows just how much perfectly optimised gear can carry you even if you play carelesly and don't pay attention. I like how in Souls you have two forces allowing you to best the difficulty, you rely on skill and mechanical execution or/and on gear and stats or summons. The old skill vs gear.
@@TrueKivan after gargoyles spend your souls to buy artorias crest key and get the stone armor from forest. fat roll with it wielding a 2handed Zweihander and grass crest shield on back. spam r1 until stamina runs out and drink estus. in ds1 estus does not make stamina regain slower. when u arrive at anor londo wear full havel armor and keep playing with this same strategy especially with 20 estus drinks. 2 easy to beat Nito, Seath and even 4 Kings with this ez strat
2:10 According to wikidot, there is a mistake here. The second range should read:
DMG = _x*( (19.2/49) * (x/D - 0.125)^2 + 0.1 )_
where x is attack and D is defense.
I honestly can barely read my own graphic lol nice catch. I do think I did use that for calcs, although that didn’t ever come into play in this run to my recollection
@@trevthedev6134 gg homie, we appreciate the content
Very cool to find a new souls creator, making original content as a newer player to such a relatively old community! Loved this video
this would be interesting to see on Elden Ring ngl, I REALLY liked the concept and idea of this run, amazing vid!
Whheeww glad you didn't lie. Was really worried you were going to.
Great vid so far, but I’ll be the “um actually” guy lol and point out you can upgrade your gear before Taurus demon. The hollow enemies can drop titanite shards and you can go to Rickert right before new londo and have him upgrade your stuff.
Just looked though the comments to see if someone mentioned it xD
Haha yeah a few people caught that! Idk why but I was thinking I needed the master key to get to him from the get go. Either way it’s just a single boss (though I’m guessing I probably could’ve 2 shot him with a +5, maybe even one shot with a plunge)
The damage formula seems awfully convoluted, no wonder defense is generelly pretty unclear.
Congratulations on getting into DS content creation. I watched the full vid and it was entertaining. Good luck with your next projects.
Kalameet is gated by Artorios because you need Gough to shoot him down to actually fight him. Otherwise he just stays in the air carpet bombing the arena with fire breath soon as you set foot inside
You can beat him ranged, there’s even an extra dialogue from Gough if you managed to do it without his help
Hmm...an optimised Defense build? Dedicate yourself to making enemy attacks hit as close to zero as possible, while waiting them out with status effects and consumables, not sure if you'd use a shield in your endeavour to prove true Defense, but i guess if you did you could shield poke perhaps. Or just maybe full no-shield it to prove your dedication to immaculate Defense.
Good lord. That spell chasing at 33:45. Phew...
Lmao yeah that was my second try and I thought for sure I was dead
I love all your unique challenges!
Step 1. Black fire bombs starting gift
2. Zweihander in graveyard
3. Residence key from undead merchant
4. Gold pine resin
5. two hand all weapons
6. +5 the zweihander
7. Purchase crest of artorius and join Forest hunters covenant.
8. standard and crystal weapons only with spell, miracle, or resin
9. Pinwheel (use shortcut) for rite of kindling
10. Rusted iron ring from undead asylum
11. Oolacile ivory catalyst from Dusk (beat hydra)
12. Large Ember, large titanite from depths slimes
13. upgrade zweihander to +10
14. Purchase Demon's great-axes (replaces zweihander) and great club (upgrade both to +10) in blighttown from forest hunter merchant
15. giant club against iron golem
16. great magic weapon (primary buff) in anor londo
17. Crystal Ember from duke's archives
18. Crystal magic weapon from Big Hat Logan (free him)
19. Demon's great axe and giant club ascend to crystal +4
20. +5 Crystal Demon Great axe with titanite slab from stray demon
21. Level intelligence for tin crystallization catalyst
22. Kill Big Hat Logan for Tin crystallization catalyst
23. Final loadout: +5 crystal demon great axe with great magic weapon buff and tin crystallization equipped to offhand
24. Go nuts
Totally deserved the attention this video is getting, it was suggested to me a few days ago and I've been binging your videos as i work since :)
What an amazing idea - and execution - of a video.
You will blow up, no doubts ;)
(another comment lol) I think the tier list of game weapons by DPS output against late game bosses is a cool idea, specially for me since Dark Souls is my comfort game (ironically) so I always go back to it regularly and I love trying out new weapons and new builds and seeing things, would be fun to look at some alternatives I'm yet to consider (and well, I suppose that something similar for all the fromsoft titles would be neat too)
That misspelling in the thumbnail
“Optimized Damge.
Ha I didn't even notice that and I think you're the first to point it out!

Super entertaining video, with great gameplay, and excellent commentary. Thanks for finding all that stuff out! Can't wait to see what other videos you make and have made.
P.S. You should show off your whole build and stats at the end. Armour, levels, etc.
This is an awesome playthrough! I love using mathematically optimal builds in games
Never seen Sif just walk back like that.
i did not expect the 2 shot gwyn
Cool run, you're making me want to play Dark Souls again. I'm gonna steal some strats and go for big numbers, thanks for the tips
Great! Always a good game to come back to every now and then. Just wait until my next video where I'll have even more numbers!
I hope this video blow up, i find this a really cool idea
Quality content!
it'd literally just be pyromancy and then sorcery and then sorcery for truly optimized dps.
This is crazy, I've always gone through with the calculation of "If enemy health >0, bonk"
Also, I'd definitely enjoy the DS3 version of this you mentioned during the Manus fight!
Grinding on slimes works a lot better with fire
No PNG, an "A" missing. Clearly a thumbnail worthy of 80.000 views.
Brother as soon as you figure out the algorithm let me know lol
I find it silly when people complain that "Dark Souls is too hard, it needs an easy mode" when the game has so many different ways to completely break its difficulty. The game already has an easy mode, it's called being resourceful.
This game is hard for people who haven't played it more than a couple hours... I'm currently finishing an SL1 run to replace my SL5 darkwraith I built on PS3 (rip... YLoD). Even after not playing the game for a few years I can still parry and backstab most enemies without a problem. I think people think the game is hard because they're intimidated and think dying is bad.
Great info & narration, very chill
Is there a reason why you didn’t pick faith? I thought you would go with something like int until you can get your hands on the miracle, hence the deprived class.
You can glitch both souls for infinite levels and proof of a concord kept, allowing you to have a darkmoon blade at max covenant level surpassing the crystal catalyst, you can also switch to sunlight blade for bosses resistant to magic damage (or just alternating between the two in NG+). Power within also synergies well with weapon buffs
Edit: oh and the dragon+ ring buffs, forgot, thought at that point, it becomes impractical
Cool video! I bet the dps run would be more varied, but I'll wait for your big project instead of trying to figure it out with my smooth brain.
For sure. I think I’ll probably do this in dark souls 3 and go the dps route instead of just raw damage. Will just be a bigger ordeal lol
For the maximum DPS run, people have been recommending the painting guardian sword with a maxed out darkmoon blade buff forever. It's a grind and a half to get both of those, but I wonder how it actually stacks up.
So do I! I’m actually in the process of ranking every weapon by maximum dps output as we speak!
Truly optimized would be killing Taurus and restarting every time you don't get his axe 😉
33:47 lol he went to the prometheus school of rolling away from things
Man the tracking on those things always throws me off. Am used to attacks like that fizzling out
Enjoying the video!
Waiting for the 17 revision videos as everyone slowly combines their knowledge
I mean this with absolutely no connotation but you commentate like a pilot for a commercial airline
Lmao I don’t know if I should take that as a compliment. I tend to put on a voice unintentionally when doing voiceover for this stuff that I think I borrow from doing sports pbp stuff.
Hey Trev new to your channel and I’m loving your videos!
I can tell this'll be a good channel
You shoulda gotten the dragon king great axe by cuttigg the gaping dragons tail off cuz you can buff that weapon too
Standing next to Quelaag's spider head (between the head and the leg) is actually a mostly safe place, her sword attacks cannot hit you from there Im pretty sure.
At the very least the times Ive stood there she has not been able to.
Holy shit; Joe Rogan playing Dark Souls??
Jokes aside, this was a nice video. I enjoyed your explanations and commentary!
I actually think it's nice that you didn't use rtsr or pw because those can be a bit tricky to use as a casual player, also it would have been nice to see the damage setup (weapon name, weapon upgrade, buffs) alongside all the numbers on the screen, I know the info is in the voice over but having all the info on screen at all time would make it easier to follow
now I'm jealous I don't have some cool dark souls video ideas like you just to give myself an excuse to replay this game
Yep always working to improve graphics for upcoming stuff! I think throwing important damage stats in the top right will be helpful (did this for the manus catalyst video). I am used to having 99 in everything for my NG+++++++ one shot videos so it didnt really matter there.
Is defense like this? A massive piecewise function series like this? Might explain why defense seems to drop off pretty hard after awhile.
Hmm I don’t know if it’s the same exact formula but it’s pretty close. There are definitely some benchmarks you want to hit once you get to certain areas but I’m not sure what they are exactly
All i want in life is a mod that replace sif boss fight with a petting minigame
Killer video! Would love to see you do this with ds3
"going to avoid tail cut weapons as they're not guaranteed"
yes they are
also pinwheel that early is absolutely not the intended route, you're directed towards the undead church, and blighttown at the same time, you're only directed towards pinwheel after you get the lordvessel, npcs in the game have dialogue, which you're blatantly ignoring and i'm not sure why
Yeah there were some routing mistakes and it’s probably not ‘optimized’ if you will. Working to make a better path for an optimized dps route instead!
I like Maths
I Like Dark souls
So glad I found this channel
5:00 We can not reliably get the master key
THE THIEF STARTS WITH MASTER KEY. You can have bombs and master key, this is common for some glitch set ups.
Also this isn't me trying to call you out. Obviously to do all this maths you're far smarter than I am, but it would be interesting to see this done with the master key and cheesing.
All good, I did a better follow up version with the master key fwiw
Entertaining, keep em coming :)
i am almost positive you can get to andre without the master key, reliably...just not easily. now i could be wrong cause i dont remember the full details but if i am not mistaken you only need the master key to get into the valley of the drakes from firelink shrine, but you can get into new londo ruins. if you follow new londo ruins and open the door draining the ruins you can then leave through that area, go up the tower straight across the bridge, go through the darkroot basin and up into the undead parish. its super roundabout but doable.i always think of that route when i hear people say something like "cant use the back entrance to blight town cause i didnt grab the key" like yes you can, you just have to go the super long route through the parish, through the basin, and through the valley of the drakes. now where i might be wrong about getting to andre is that i just dont remember if you need the key from ingward in order to drain new londo ruins. if you do need his key then according to the rules of this run yes you couldnt make that trip but if you dont need the key to drain it then its a 100% viable route to take its just ridiculous hard at early levels cause those ghosts will mess you up.
Yeah you cant drain without the key.
I may revisit once I have my weapons ranking done for the game, doing an optimized dps run
This was on my home page!
Haha the algorithm loves Dark Souls doesn’t it?
It does, but you can’t technically do all bosses and still use it as you break the covenant by killing Gwyndolin.
i really enjoyed watching this video. i would like to see dark souls 3 next :)
Gotta sub, for the effort and dedication 🤚🏻
Only 1k subs? this is good content...
2h jumping attack is 1.55 mv and has good range, and is good to use in niche timings,
could do a souls mimic challenge, where you pick one of the games and you have to gear yourself to near match the boss for the area? use same weapon/weapon type, use similar armor
Or even a rebellion run, play as a foot soldier and only use standard soldier/knight equipment.
Rank 80 darkmoon blade does more damage than crystal magic weapon.... redo vid
Way ahead of you!
@@trevthedev6134 you know what, Just watched the second vid after leaving my comment. I was quite pleased
Great video man
Why no tail cut weapons? They're basically guaranteed.
Yeah I did have a couple of mistakes in some routing that could’ve been improved and am planning to correct in an upcoming ‘redo’ where I do optimized dps instead of raw damage output
couldn't you use rickert to get your zweihander to +5 early or does he only do magic reinforcement
Just a funny idea, I do really like the best-worst damage run idea a lot more.
loved the video, do more on dark souls 1 and 2!
Working to try and make it a little better when I return to do a DPS run instead of damage only
Great video, enjoyed the math :) You just gotta practice those rolls a bit 😅
I’ll keep it in mind, not a bad idea to throw one up on my next video.
Is this optimized enemy damage? That Asylum Demon fight was painful lol
Just joking my dude, awesome video, thank you for sharing!
Hey don’t judge my play style lol. This was right after playing some Elden Ring where I’m more comfortable dodging
@@trevthedev6134 I figured since you were early dodging, it takes a couple hours to get the timing again, been there for sure!
You have a very soothing voice, a great companion to my toothache. I’ll stick around for more
Now do mathematically optimized dps by adding the frame data of different r1s to the equation
Finishing the video? I would like to say that I would LOVE a video from someone as astute as yourself explaining, and playing an *Old Mundane* build.
