    Hey, remember when Eotech haters talked madd shit for the longest time about them having thermal drift but then other manufacturers admitted their optics had thermal drift too and some independent test showed their thermal drift was even worst than Eotech's?

      GHOS7 just stating the facts here, these cock suckers forged government documents saying they met the requiments and made millions risking lives. I love all the fan boys who say they all have thermal drift, not a single manufacturer besides eotech was a fucking foot off of the optics zero and tried to bury it. Aim points an others are no where near that, their thermal drift isn’t detectable by the shooter

    • @zack9912000
      @zack9912000 5 років тому +11

      GHOS7 I am glad they fixed things but the ONLY reason it was addressed is because they got caught. Otherwise even if the CEO found out about it nothing would have changed. Yet those involved deserve jail time and not a slap on the wrist and a fine

      @Michael Varela Whoah man...Armalite and Jim Sullivan never said you didn't have to clean the rifles, and they sure as hell didn't load 5.56 with the wrong powder to save money, let alone lie about it. Not exactly apples to apples. That said, your points about EOTech are still valid.

    • @AbhishekSingh-pp1ks

      EoTech's CEO resigned, everyone response was fired within a month and EoTech brought in engineers to fix the problems with their optics and now tests every single optic that goes to SOCOM for thermal drift and any sight that has excessive thermal drift is immediately thrown out. For optics that go to civilians, EoTech checks a few optics from every batch for thermal drift and if any optic has excessive thermal drift the whole batch is inspected and every defective sight is thrown out. EoTech fired everyone responsible and raised their quality control standards to the highest in the industry. EoTech is now a great company.

    One thing to note is that the EOTech EXPS-3 uses a CR123 battery. This is the same battery that most weapon-mounted flashlights use. There's something to be said for having everything on your rifle sharing the same battery. Especially if you have a stock with storage compartments so you can keep a few spare CR123's on your rifle.
    This seems like it would become even more valuable for folks who carry a rifle for work and have a PEQ-15 on their rifle, which also takes CR123's. Various models of NVG's and radios take CR123's, too.

      Honestly feels like something that'd be a standard- keep all your stuff running on the same batteries, just like all NATO small arms use the same selection of ammo, etc.
      Makes logistics on all levels a lot easier and life more convenient for the end user when just about everything you need is constantly in stock.

I wouldn’t see they tech is better cause Aimpoint has yet to fail

    • @MacIraq
      @MacIraq 6 років тому +17

      Matthew Well, those “expensive batteries” can be rechargeable if you’re willing to accept less battery life. 600 hours is still a lot with its auto shutoff. And if you have a MOE grip, you can buy a holder that fits 2 CR123’s if you’re that worried about it.

    On deployment I had a few options optic wise. Aimpoint M68, ACOG, MARS, and Eotech 553. I always ran an Eotech and even bought my own magnifier for it. To me it was simply the most versatile, reliable, intuitive optic to use across a full spectrum of operations. The only disadvantage was the battery life, but easily mitigated by changing them when I changed my NOD batteries. Oh and I used them from Alaska to Iraq and airborne operations so I can absolutely attest to their durability and reliability.

      It may seem so, but this is the same conclusion I'm realizing, too. I am in the market for one new optic, and can see the advantages of the Eotechs for the 2-gun competitions I just started doing, but - at the same time - want an optic for the go-to gun (not a house-hold gun) that, should I need it, I probably won't have the time to be switching it on. It's still all a shitty choice right now, as the optic we want - Eotech - still can't seem to improve its battery life. The Eotech seems, and is reportedly, faster in all situations ... until one accounts for having to both turn it on, and for having to remember to turn it on, during an adrenaline dump.

    Regarding parallax: in any given optic with fixed parallax (ie red dots, holographics, low power variables, most mid power variables, fixed power prism sights), center-justify your dot/reticle in the viewing window to eliminate parallax error. For red dots, if you have your BUIS deployed, use the BUIS as a reference to find the center of the viewing window, and then align the dot with them (credit to Kyle Lamb). For scopes, move your entire head back slightly to create a shadow around your viewing window, and then center your scope image inside that shadow (credit to a random forumer. Also I know field of view is reduced with this trick).
    Whether or not you need to eliminate parallax error is situational. It's almost a non-issue with an Eotech, apparently.
    Lovely channel, Mr. Thumb!

    • @ComeOnPelican91
      @ComeOnPelican91 6 років тому

      I did not necessarily mean you can't use lower 1/3. I was actually heavily recommending irons sights stay up with the use of non-holographic red dots, lower 1/3 or not. Since you're most likely zeroing your high mounted aimpoint through your irons anyway, you should use that sight picture for precise shots (red dot+front post+rear aperture on target).
      Seems intuitive but some people shoot aimpoints on a carbine with buis down for "cleaner sight picture," which is fine until they go out to 100, in which case their groups will widen because of parallax error.

    @agelessyankee7790 7 років тому

    Nice job of presenting the important performance features that differentiate EOTech from other high-end red dots. Impressive use of hard facts backed up by references.
    I have been lukewarm on my EOTech (XPS 2-1) from the git-go for the reasons you mentioned: too big, too heavy, & short battery life. The 1 MOA dot gets lost in cluttered backgrounds that are unevenly illuminated unless it's magnified. Turning off an XPS-2 requires pressing two buttons concurrently which often requires a couple of tries to succeed. The buttons are small and difficult to operate by touch when a magnifier is mounted.
    To be fair, the reticle is tripley cool when viewed through a 3x magnifier - seriously... the sight picture is outstanding.
    You stated something to the effect that a magnifier behind an EOTech doesn't increase the dot size. My experience has been that in front of a 3x magnifier, my EOTech's 1 MOA dot looks about 3 moa, i.e. magnification does occur.
    A better way to put it would be to say that the magnified dot size from an EOTech is smaller than that from an Aimpoint, et al, thus facilitating more precise shot placement.

      Garand Thumb from the sight "Like all reflex-style optics, the Trijicon MRO is parallax-free when the dot and target are reasonably well centered in the optic's field-of-view, but when the reticle and target are substantially off-axis, there will be some parallax. The off-axis parallax performance of the MRO meets or exceeds that of other reflex sights of similar size." -After seeing those graphs I don't know how I feel about this statment...

The new Holosun 510C has implemented those desired updates (auto on/off, better battery life, integrated QD mount, takes cr2032 battery, reticle can change between 65 moa circle, 1 moa dot or both 65 moa circle w/dot ). Its been flawless so far but the jury is still out on durability.

When slightly touched it will activate the reticle at the previous brightness setting. I have never had any problem with the sight in any way what so ever. I know it is not comparable to Eotech or Aimpoint as far as use in a combat situation, however it is a very sound sight.
