Absolutely agree. I use a small amount of ginger and lemon. The biggest issue is that flowers contain a lot of natural yeast. So once made needs to be kept in the fridge. Or as I use it for heart failure as a replacement for aspirin I save in the freezer. The green parts do impart greater medicianal taste but they also contain other phyto chemicals you dont really want in the cordial. Like April I am in Ireland and take mine from the edge of boglands, where I am certain of its organic nature, as there are no chemicals used on barren land. Unlike fields used for cattle etc. I have a garden full of strawberries (wild) and raspberries. But they get eaten...simples lol. Oh yes I have used this cordial for ten years now. No adverse effects. .
Nice one! I’ve been making syrups for years but never with meadow sweet. I always do all the infusion part without the sugar and citric acid first over night then strain it through a cheesecloth before adding the sugar and citric acid
Filipendula Ulmaria is a truly lovely anti-inflammatory n a surprisinly strong pain releaver. Super to know it can be handled like this... Thnx for the share ^_^

Can you give a recipe for camomile and also for dandelion syrup, please? Woule that be dandelion flowers? Or shoots? Or roots? After straining, i would be tempted to reheat it to a short quick boil to make it more shelf stable, though. Or don't you do that because it would affect the vitamins and medicinal properties?
Shhh....shes a Naturopath. Science and logic need not apply. I have no idea how she squares the naturopathic woo with her Masters in Nutrition and Food Sci.

I don't know if I would use this syrup enough to make it, but it was grand to watch.
We use is as a cordial and the kids love it. Literally a little drop and fill it with water and tastes great with sparkling water. :)
@@ilovecookingireland Thank you. My babies are grown and live far away. I'll keep this in mind. I'm a new viewer of yours.

Anyone know what brand of pot that is? Does it have a copper bottom?
Doesn't the boiling water kill the yeast?
