The group had four #1 songs in the US. They all could have been considered different genres. Heart of Glass - disco The Tide is High - reggae Call Me - rock, new wave Rapture - through the MTV video, introduced much of the country to rap and hip hop
They had six number ones in the UK Heart of Glass, Sunday Girl (both 1979). Atomic, Call Me, The Tide Is High (1980) Maria (1999) They were successful in the UK first, on the back of the punk and new wave movements. Their first hit was Denis, which reached number 2 early in 1978. Three more top 20 hits followed before Heart of Glass.
Sadly your list of four completely misses their best songs (except for Heart of Glass). They were a better punk band than they were as "producer driven, let's try every genre and hope for hits..."
@@vampfashions Only songs of theirs I think are close to punk are Detroit 442 and Living In The Real World. I’ve always liked their debut album with its arch humour, cultural references, and yes, variety, and nothing close to punk.
Blondie was formed in the 70's in NYC by singer Debbie Harry w/ her then-BF Chris Stein (guitar) and Clem Burke (drums)... They were part of the scene that produced The Ramones... and Blondie were initially a very edgy rock band. 'Heart of glass' was their major disco single from their 3rd album 'Parallel lines'.... which sold platinum in the US and was a huge hit in Europe where Blondie enjoyed huge popularity. They also had more guitar-driven singles like - 'One way or another' ... 'Sunday girl'... 'Call me' ... 🔥🔥 They also had a rap single 'Rapture' ... a reggae influenced single - 'The tide is high'... Blondie did not rest on one sound. However, their popularity crashed in the early 80's after the 1981 album 'The Hunter'... and Blondie split up. Years later, Blondie reunited w/ new members and released a comeback album 'No exit' in 1999 w/ the hit single - 'Maria'. Blondie is still active and has released several new albums, even as Debbie Harry is 79 yrs old...
First rap song to hit the #1 slot in the US. Debra Harry was a huge rap fan and ran around with several rappers when she was young. She was also a Playboy bunny for a while.
Debbie Harry is the lead singer by the way her name isn’t Blondie. A lot of people think that it is for some reason but she was a legend and she was also considered incredibly attractive back in the day

Debbie Harry is STILL very attractive. But it's like Sade or Alice Cooper or similar where the band name becomes the lead singer's "name" - I know a guy personally who named his son "Hootie" because he thought that was Darius Rucker's name and Hootie and the Blowfish are his favorite band LOL
You couldn't escape Blonde for several years on the radio back in the day. She walked that fine line between disco/pop/new wave, so she crossed into many listening audiences. For a real rocker of a song from her, check out "The Hardest Part", with the official video.

@@neilpatrickhairless I grew up listening to Prog rock and my parents hated Blondie because of what the radio did and pigeon holed that band. I was probably around 12 when this came out. I'm 55 now. Had a major crush on her. This is sort of somewhere between "bored punk" vibe with a disco vibe. Pretty unique for the time.
I'm 55 too. This came out when we were 9. And, like you, I've loved this song, band....and Debbie!....since that time. I got to meet her in the DJ booth of a club once in the early 90s, she was way cool.

A brilliant song from much later in her career is "Maria", released 20 years after "Heart of Glass" her voice hardly seems to have aged a day and she belts out some big notes!
I was eight when this was released. There were . . .awakenings! She was incredible, and a product of that 70's NY punk scene that birthed the likes of her and The Ramones.
The rumour was that the band was not exactly thrilled with the disco vibe of the song, considering their punkish CBGB heritage. So they were vamping the disco club mannerisms. But it became a smash hit. Sounds perfect even 45 odd years later
I think they talk about it on a documentary. At the very least, the docu shows how much the producer, not the band, drove the sound of that track. Really fantastic song.
Initially they were somewhat reluctant to listen to Mike Chapman's ideas and advice - then they heard the results and realised that he had been right all along. The relationship started rocky but he made 3 subsequent albums with them and most of Debbie's Def, Dumb & Blonde solo album. They have stated that he actually allowed them to experiment a lot which they loved but also provided structure which they sort of needed.
Saw her live once. I got totally pissed before the concert, passed out, and woke up crowd surfing over people's heads, and I turned, barely conscious and my eyes locked on hers, and she blew me a kiss. It was the most rock and roll thing I ever did.....lol!
The "Hanging on the Telephone" video is peak Blondie. The Parallel Lines look, and of course those amazing eyes of Debbie , the "I'll kill you if you come any closer" snarl, and the amazing voice. As a front person to a band, she has to be up there with Mick Jagger and Roger Daltrey as one the all-time greats.
This was the first dip into their post punk disco side, and a very pleasant and catchy song from the day! I'd recommend both "Call Me" and "Hangin' On The Telephone" for songs with a bit more punch.
Blondie are a hall of fame band with a ton of hit songs. "Hanging on the Telephone" is a rocker. "Dreaming" is also awesome. My favorite vocal of hers is probably on "Picture This."
Blondie was one of the best and biggest bands of the 70's. Fun fact... I got to be in an independent movie with Debbie Harry in 1997, called "Joe's Day". She was very nice and humble. I was truly honored to have been cast with her. Love you, Debbie!!!🎉❤
Blondie is one of the best bands of the late 70s and early 80s who split up in 1982 and reformed in the late 90s. They are still touring, though with some changes to their line up. They have experimented with disco, punk, new wave, rap and reggae. So many great songs to choose from but I would recommend "One way or another", especially the Live "Midnight Special" version. Excellent reaction Aileen.
Blondie were an incredible band. They came out of the New York club scene of the late 70s. They were absolute inspiration sponges soaking up every diverse sound that scene had to offer. Rock, punk, soul, funk, disco and even the very birth of the hip hop genre. They could encompass all of those sounds and switch between them at will. The next track MUST be Rapture PLEASE, the actual birth of Rap as far as the charts were concerned believe it or not.
You're making me feel old, but I'm still hanging to my late 40s. Blonde helped push the hip-hop culture with the song, 'Rapture' at that time & I'm forever grateful to them. Great selection! Signed a native NYer.
Such a delightful band, been digging them for nearly 50 years, now. Damn, where do the years go? "CALL ME" is a great one to check out; plenty of others. Tally the suggestions here in the COMMENTS and you'll do fine. Loved your reaction, Aileen, keep it coming!
Hello from the Sunshine ☀ State of Florida 🇺🇸 Blondie had some Great Hits which I see already in your comment Section 😊 1) Call Me 2 ) The Tide is High 3) Rapture 4) One way or Another Bonus - Samatha Sang ( Emotion ) As always the like button 🔳 has been Illuminated 👍 😎
Call Me and Rapture are must see songs from Blondie so please check them out soon. Debbie Harry is the name of the lead singer, Blondie is the band. She went solo and had some hits on her own as well, like Rush Rush, French Kissin', and I Want That Man. You are so right that she has a piercing look and although has a sweet appearance also doesn't look like someone you'd want to mess with, much like someone else we know!!! 😉
I enjoyed your reaction to this fantastic song. I note how you appreciated the drumming. That's Clem Burke. He's great . I feel that he makes a huge contribution to the Blondie sound.
Aileen, The way she is using her lips is embouchure, most brass players and many singers use it to tweak the notes. Freddy Mercury and Bono etc. countless others you'll notice them doing it ever so slightly Sting is another prime example as is Phil Collins. Technique to it is just hearing the notes within the "windpipes and ears and tuning it" (what my old trumpet teacher used to tell me)
Blondie started out as a punk band, so if you want o hear her power look out for Dreaming (amazing drumming) and X-offender (the song that got them started). Another great song is Union City Blue and a great lighter song is Sunday Girl. They had lots of hits, especially in the UK.
Blondie has a great music catalogue to explore. They were pioneers that mixed a variety of genres including new wave, punk, rock, pop rock, disco, & funk. Here is a very short list of song recommendations: "One Way or Another" "The Hardest Part" "Dreaming" "Call Me" "Atomic" "The Tide Is High" "Rapture" "Die Young, Stay Pretty" "Detroit 442" "Hanging on the Telephone" "11:59"
In my youthful days, I don't think there was a single guy who DIDN'T have the poster from their "Parallel Lines" album on the wall and "Heart of Glass" on the record player. I'm now in my Sixties and in progressively failing health, so thank you from the bottom of my heart for this lovely memory flashback to happier times.
Ah my childhood crush! I have been playing drums to her songs since I had an 8 Track tape of "Best of Blondie"! They have some great and fun songs. I hope you react to "Call Me" and "One Way or Another". Oh, and if you feel daring, do "Rapture". ;) Great reaction Aileen!!!
Blondie - "Heart Of Glass" !!! Their "Punk" fan base was not happy they did a Disco song. But it is maybe their top hit. Edit; So they are a punk band punking on the disco ball? Now i am looking at the video with a different lens.
LOVED this reaction! You totally captured so much about Debbie Harry (the singer of Blondie) in your amazing commentary! I actually choked up! Love this beautiful song. Other songs: Dreaming, I Am Always Touched By Your Presence Dear, Hanging On The Telephone and One Way Or Another, all worth doing. (I love your channel!)
P.S. Debbie is definitely a tough rock and roll girl! She's never a pushover! This song may not sound like it, but Blondie comes from the earliest punk era. They hit it big with this song.
Blondie is one of the first bands to experiment in many different genres. They started off as a popish punk band, playing CBGBs et al. They did an early rap song, Reggae- Tide is High, Heart of Glass is a foray into Disco and later in her career she went into other retro styles. Trailblazers!
Blondie came out in the 70’s when I was a teenager. I was totally in love with Deborah Harry. Try listening to her rocking voice with “One Way Or Another”
Blondie are The chameleons of music. You want punk they got it, you want rock, they got it, you want disco they got it. You want reggae they got it, you want pop they. got it! A deep dive!
Thank you for your excellent reaction this is a classic Blondie song, please try a reaction to “ Rapture” by Blondie it is one of the first hybrid songs a real groundbreaking song. Please keep enjoying yourself and making these excellent reactions.
One of the true queens of the 80s. Debbie Harry, Terri Nun, Aimee Man, Annie Lennox...ugh, that decade's music was amazing!! So great that it still speaks to people all these years later :)
Fun(possible) fact: If I remember correctly Blondie was the first band to "Rap" that was played on the radio, something like that. ua-cam.com/video/pHCdS7O248g/v-deo.html&ab_channel=BlondieVEVO EDIT: The "closest" band that really reminds me of them is Cannons, this deserves a reaction, ua-cam.com/video/LZ2kSbSrDLs/v-deo.html&ab_channel=CannonsVEVO
Been there, LOL! Too funny, Aileen! Yep, Blondie had some great songs. They were all over the radio back in the day, and worth following up on. Oh, and they had some videos too. Thanks for sharing this one.
Great reaction Aileen! Blondie is an awesome band (Debbie Harry - beautiful and a wonderful singer). This is at the heart of disco, and a perfect example of a dance track, but their sound spans many genres! The Tide Is High (Caribbean calypso), Rapture (rap!), Atomic (disco rock), One Way Or Another (rock)...HIGHLY recommend all of those! Always a great vibe with them! Cheers.
In the early 80's new wave music was brand new. Blondie and Cars were two bands that started mixing pop sounds with new wave music (a cousin of punk music). The blend of pop and new wave resulted in perfection. Deborah Harry also captured the "look" of what new wave music was about.
Debi Harry, born Angela Trimble but adopted shortly after birth, renamed then raised in New Jersey. The band Blondie was actually her third band, but the first to show commercial success. They also had hits with Call Me, One Way Or Another, The Tide Is High and Rapture. Rapture is very quirky and is recognized as the first hit song to use rap. Not the whole song, but it was totally new back then. It was a "kinder and gentler" rap back then without references to sex, drugs or explicit violence. Personally, I loathe rap and the message it carries to our youth, but I have to be honest enough to say that Blondie opened the gate for everyone else that followed after she had heard it being performed in some of the underground clubs in NY.
"Dreaming" is so great. That is a must. Beautiful and rocking. Absolutely, that would be my number one next choice to react to. A perfect song, recording, performance......
31 here. been hearing that song on the classic rock stations on radio and 70son7 on siriusxm for years. i tend to like alt rock and indie now, but still am surprised how many people never knew certain iconic bands existed.
I loved your reaction to this, Aileen. 'Blondie' is the band, the lead singer is Debbie Harry, she now likes to be known as Deborah. Songs which I recommend by them are: "Fade Away and Radiate", "Picture This", "One Way Or Another", "Union City Blues", "Call Me", "(I'm Always Touched by Your) Presence, Dear", "Die Young Stay Pretty", "Atomic", "Dreaming", "Rapture". There are many more tracks by them as they have an extensive catalogue, but these are good ones to continue with.
This is one of her disco songs but she came from Punk so the band has a bit of an edge. She was also kind of known for some of those facial expressions, dance movies and little moves. I am a big fan and used to try and get my hands of everything Blondie when I was a kid. I own every record I could find except some of the pre-Blondie ones with Debbie Harry as she was in a folk band briefly.
I will never forget as an 8 year old kid in 1979 I believe at the mall with my parents walking by a TV store turning to see my father fixated on watching this video and my mother bopping him on the head telling him to come on! As an adult now now I see why he was so fixated, Debbie was simply memorizing.
Blonde was a true groundbreaking band! Debbie Harry has a fabulous voice and unique style! I would recommend Rapture next! There’s a part in it that will blow you away! Call Me and One Way or Another are also great! You’re going to love their catalog!
Thanks for your reaction to this song, unfortunately now I’ll never be able to watch Debbie sing this song without watching her mouth! 😂 love your reactions
Blondie put out so many different types of sounds but my two faves are "Atomic" and "The Hardest Part" I also like some of their really early stuff which had a punk tint to it.
Deborah Harry was my first musical celebrity crush! You will hear that a lot from men my age, lol. This was a very interesting time in music, and Blondie was at the forefront at the turn from the 70s and disco to the 80s and the more electronic pop.
Yet another great rabbit hole to dive into Aileen, Blondie has plenty of great songs, styles of music also differ quite a bit. And in a way you can say they helped grow the popularity if rap music as well, as they featured a rap in one of their songs. They were one of the first bands to do so, if not the very first.
debbie harry and blondie perfectly capture the vibe and amazing scene of late '70s nyc. this was their foray into disco but they touched on many different genres. if you want more full-throated vocals from debbie i recommend "call me" and "dreaming". also love "one way or another".
The band started out in the mid 70s as part of the New York City punk / new wave scene and played at Max's Kansas City and CBGB. I'd recommend X Offender, Hanging On The Telephone or Dreaming. Have a great day, Aileen!
It was 1983....backstage passes for Blondie...After the show we were in her room backstage partying....having a blast...then, she came and sat right next to me! she put her arm around my neck and with her other hand she started rubbing my chest....and then.....MY ALARM WENT OFF!
I was able to see them live at the Greek theater in L.A way back in 1979. They put on a very lively and energetic show. I still remember it fondly to this day.
Back in the day (I was 17-18) Blondie was about the only "Disco" music that the Rocker Macho Guys (Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden etc.) could listen to without getting ribbed by their buddies :) Debbie Harry and Stevie Nix were Goddesses in that crowd (me included). I took a lot of trash talk from guys cause I listened to/loved Bee Gees, Earth Wind & Fire, War and Tina Turner :)
Blondie is an amazing band. I recommend you check out their songs “Call Me” and “One Way or Another”
And 1999's "Maria"

Call Me and Rapture are must see songs from Blondie so please check them out soon. Debbie Harry is the name of the lead singer, Blondie is the band. She went solo and had some hits on her own as well, like Rush Rush, French Kissin', and I Want That Man. You are so right that she has a piercing look and although has a sweet appearance also doesn't look like someone you'd want to mess with, much like someone else we know!!! 😉
California ed ❤ blondie was an iconic band she always had a qurki way with her music 🎶 🎵 ❤ love you're beautiful reaction ❤ 😅
I enjoyed your reaction to this fantastic song. I note how you appreciated the drumming. That's Clem Burke. He's great . I feel that he makes a huge contribution to the Blondie sound.
Had a huge crush on Debbie back in the '70s & '80s. Fantastic seeing her perform live. Still have a soft spot for her.
Aileen, The way she is using her lips is embouchure, most brass players and many singers use it to tweak the notes. Freddy Mercury and Bono etc. countless others you'll notice them doing it ever so slightly Sting is another prime example as is Phil Collins. Technique to it is just hearing the notes within the "windpipes and ears and tuning it" (what my old trumpet teacher used to tell me)
Check out Debbie Harry's performances from the Muppet Show. You could see she was having a blast and she worked well with the Muppet Show band.
Rapture is an underrated gem.
Here is a very short list of song recommendations:
"One Way or Another"
"The Hardest Part"
"Dreaming"
"Call Me"
"Atomic"
"The Tide Is High"
"Rapture"
"Die Young, Stay Pretty"
"Detroit 442"
"Hanging on the Telephone"
"11:59"
Try listening to her rocking voice with “One Way Or Another”
Great Band, Great Singer... Lots of Great Songs Too!
Debbie Harry is one of the All Time Greats. Blondie is unadulterated fun on every level too.
Great song. . Iconic song. Oldie but goodie here. . Old school classic. . Cool video too 😎😎. Love her beautiful voice. . 💯❤️😍💯❤️😍💯❤️💯❤️💯
Blondie are The chameleons of music. You want punk they got it, you want rock, they got it, you want disco they got it. You want reggae they got it, you want pop they. got it!
A deep dive!
Debbie & Kermit the Frog - Rainbow Connection is a must hear
Yaaaaaaaaasss!!!
Ok now, let Blondie blow you away with the song, "The Hardest Part". You'll love it
Reaching for obscure Blondie that really rocks the punk vibe, "X Offender" early and awesome.
I am writing this to help out Aileen and this video and this channel with the algorithm 🥹
blondie - "one way or another"
Thank you for your excellent reaction this is a classic Blondie song, please try a reaction to “ Rapture” by Blondie it is one of the first hybrid songs a real groundbreaking song.
The male backups singing nah nah nah is a nice touch
Cheers.
Always makes me remember "the good ole days"!
Clem Burke is an incredible drummer 🔥🔥🔥
Great reaction, and rabbit hole! My favorite Blondie song is Dreaming. There are so many great ones.
"Dreaming" is so great. That is a must. Beautiful and rocking. Absolutely, that would be my number one next choice to react to. A perfect song, recording, performance......
This one is great. Dreaming is my favorite Blondie song. The drums in dreaming are amazing. Enjoy
That song reminds me of a party on a camping trip in 1980-ish. I love Blondie.I think you'll also like "Rapture". Quite a fun song and video.
31 here. been hearing that song on the classic rock stations on radio and 70son7 on siriusxm for years. i tend to like alt rock and indie now, but still am surprised how many people never knew certain iconic bands existed.
I loved your reaction to this, Aileen. 'Blondie' is the band, the lead singer is Debbie Harry, she now likes to be known as Deborah. Songs which I recommend by them are:
"Fade Away and Radiate",
"Picture This",
"One Way Or Another",
"Union City Blues",
"Call Me",
"(I'm Always Touched by Your) Presence, Dear",
"Die Young Stay Pretty",
"Atomic",
"Dreaming",
"Rapture".
There are many more tracks by them as they have an extensive catalogue, but these are good ones to continue with.
Essentials: Call Me (non-video version), Hanging on the Telephone, Dreaming, Accidents Never Happen
Very unique voice!!
Takes me back to listening to her in the students union bar in ‘78. It’s cool you discovered her and this song.
I will never forget as an 8 year old kid in 1979 I believe at the mall with my parents walking by a TV store turning to see my father fixated on watching this video and my mother bopping him on the head telling him to come on! As an adult now now I see why he was so fixated, Debbie was simply memorizing.
Talented singer and timeless beauty.
Blonde was a true groundbreaking band! Debbie Harry has a fabulous voice and unique style! I would recommend Rapture next! There’s a part in it that will blow you away! Call Me and One Way or Another are also great! You’re going to love their catalog!
Saw Blondie, back in 2013. Fantastic show !
Thanks for your reaction to this song, unfortunately now I’ll never be able to watch Debbie sing this song without watching her mouth! 😂 love your reactions
With `Call Me` and `Hanging On The Telephone` you can feel the drive of Blondie`s more energetic side
Blondie put out so many different types of sounds but my two faves are "Atomic" and "The Hardest Part" I also like some of their really early stuff which had a punk tint to it.
Blondie is the real deal. They still make good music way into the 2000’s. And Debbie Harry is cool as a cucumber.
Hi Aileen, nice reaction!
New WINTERSUN is out so, If you wanna check it, I suggest "One With The Shadows". Absolutely beautiful🙂
Deborah Harry was my first musical celebrity crush! You will hear that a lot from men my age, lol. This was a very interesting time in music, and Blondie was at the forefront at the turn from the 70s and disco to the 80s and the more electronic pop.
She's the first rapper to chart. 😁Check out "Rapture", it was a #1 hit.
She's an amazing artist! Lots of great songs from them! Great reaction!
BlonDIE!!!
Blondie: "Dreaming", "Call Me", "One Way Or Another", "Sunday Girl"
blondie Dreaming. fabulous drums
The band started out in the mid 70s as part of the New York City punk / new wave scene and played at Max's Kansas City and CBGB. I'd recommend X Offender, Hanging On The Telephone or Dreaming. Have a great day, Aileen!
Blondie got me hooked on rock music. Call me in 6th grade changed my weather.
I'm gonna recommend a band from my country, Devilskin - Little Pills. Also another Blondie song Tide is High is a good one
It was 1983....backstage passes for Blondie...After the show we were in her room backstage partying....having a blast...then, she came and sat right next to me! she put her arm around my neck and with her other hand she started rubbing my chest....and then.....MY ALARM WENT OFF!
Blondie broke out with this song and Debbie Harry, the lead singer, was already 33/34 years old. This is 33/34 year old Debbie you are seeing.
