@@3DJapan I've seen a video from one of the early rap artists (maybe Grandmaster Flash?) who said he and other rappers recognized the importance of Rapture and were thrilled that a mainstream band like Blondie saw the value of rap enough to attempt their own rap song. Love this song! The groove is so funky, and it's an early homage to Brooklyn's then mostly unknown hip hop scene. The video is full of references to the genre's Caribbean roots and cultural touchstones like street art. I'd also recommend Blondie's "Call Me" for a whole other side of the band.
Blondie was very much into the NYC art scene in the 80s. The song is about the underground dance clubs they would go to where rap was born. Dear Aileen… Thank you for this reaction…and SO many more. If you want to hear a COMPLETELY different ‘Blondie’; a sweeping, powerful, yet somehow haunting (the ending scene of an amazing series; ‘the deuce’) version of ‘Sidewalks of New York’ I only wish it was available for download…but can be found on UA-cam. I don’t want to spoil the series (in case you enjoy watching series’)…but I will simply say that the main character played by James Franco (Vincent), WAS a twin brother. His final walk through Times Square finds him in present day…but still able to see the spirits of those that impacted his life and memories… Quite beautiful… I hope you check it out! Oooh…to see the actual final scene with the song (for full effect)…please watch ‘the deuce’ final scene Part 1 and Part 2…
My fave New Wave/Rock/Disco/Rap/Reggae/Pop group. Blondie has so many amazing songs. My personal fave is probably "Dreaming", but it changes depending on my mood. Probably the best one to react to next is "One Way Or Another", to see another side to them. Debbie is still rocking into her 70's. A recent(ish) song that I liked is "Doom or Destiny", featuring Joan Jett. Cheers!
Debbie Harry (blondie) Was offered a lift once in New York, but luckily for her, she thought twice and didn’t accept it. She later found out that the man who offered her the lift was TED BUNDY !
This was the first popular song to hit number 1 that included a part that was rapping. I quite like Atomic. If you get the chance to watch the original video from the 1970s, to get a baseline, then watch the live performance with Debby Hari last year (2023) in England of the same song. Yes, Blondie, with Debby Harry at lead vocals, performed live in 2023 at an open air festival in Glastonbury, England.
Triumph is a Canadian rock band with an incredible guitar player & singer. Gil Moore is one of my favorite hard hitting drummers. Rik Emmett has an incredible vocal range. I have no idea how he hits those high notes. To hear that incredible vocal range, check out the song "Time Goes By" I'm pretty sure you and the subscribers will enjoy this band.
I loved your reaction to this, Aileen. 'Blondie' is the band, the lead singer is Debbie Harry, she now likes to be known as Deborah. Songs which I recommend by them are: "Fade Away and Radiate", "Picture This", "One Way Or Another", "Union City Blues", "Call Me", "(I'm Always Touched by Your) Presence, Dear", "Die Young Stay Pretty", "Atomic", "Dreaming". There are many more tracks by them as they have an extensive catalogue, but these are good ones to continue with.
Ms.senpai. I've watched most of the metal/hard rock reactions you've done as well as a good number of the other reactions like"monsters" a few days ago, great song!, as well as ffdp- wrong side heaven great song & lyrics,I get it! I completely understand your reaction, ,I had someone in my family who did 2 or 3 tour's in Vietnam, lucky for him he didn't get killed, but he did have p.t.s.d. after returning home. I was real young & don't don't remember much about him. But I do remember some of the things he said about what he had been through & saw & did. Most physical wounds heal over time but the mental aspect of seeing real f****d up s**t happen during the war first hand. The horrific things that happen either seeing it or being put in a situation where you don't have a choice,it's either kill or be killed! most people will say its an obvious choice! But for most people actually don't think or know & understand that what "a soldier " goes through during war & any given combat situation! But whatever the situation is or was. at the end of the day that soldier is still human,& they still feel emotion! I support the military 💯% . Keep doing what you do!!!!! Thanks !
As an 'arty' alternative (15-year-old) high school kid back in 1980, I remember spinning this album late into the night while I created my angsty artwork. Every time I hear this album (Autoamerican) and this song I'm transported back. My favourite song by Debbie Harry is 'Inner City Spillover.' - very alternative for the time and super cool. Great reaction Aileen.
The eternally cool Debbie! Thanks for continuing to check out these guys! 🥳 Edit: By the way, I recommend checking out live clips of Blondie. They often sounded a bit more raw live, and I always find it a treat to watch Debbie bounce around all over the stage while Clem Burke massacres his drums!
I think I was in the 4th or 5th grade when I first heard Blondie, I actually seen her on American bandstand and that was amazing. Either way I fell in love, with her voice and the style of Melody she and the band produced. You had disco, pop and rock, it was all there for the taken 🙏
Great reaction, Aileen. Imagine how most of us acted the first time WE heard this. It was unlike anything most of us had heard at that point in our lives. TBH I didn't even realize I'd just heard someone rapping. I respect this lady and this song even more today. She was a traliblazer.
I see ya dancing with the "Man from Mars" / "Voodoo God" (dancer William Barnes in the white suit and top hat).. Barnes choreographed the piece, that last street scene was done in 1 take
I was a young gay boy in the late 70s-early 80s and even *I* had a crush on Debbie. So did virtually everybody: black, white, straight, gay, man, woman.. She was IT! There never would have been a Madonna or a Gaga had it not been for Debbie Harry and Blondie fused so many genres of music together, I can't think of another band who did it so successfully commercially (there are probably are some, though).
Wow that was weird just as was ready to type how I love your grin and smile through this you mentioned it, it show an appreciation to the music the artist has supplied, keep smiling x̌
Ah, “Rapture” by Blondie-an iconic song with a fascinating history! Released in 1981 as part of their Autoamerican album, it became famous for blending new wave, disco, and hip-hop influences, making it one of the first mainstream tracks to feature rap-style vocals. The Backstory: Blondie’s Debbie Harry and Chris Stein were heavily influenced by the emerging hip-hop scene in New York City during the late ’70s and early ’80s. They frequented clubs like the Mudd Club and were fans of artists like Grandmaster Flash and Fab 5 Freddy. The lyrics of “Rapture” even name-drop Freddy, a major figure in the graffiti and hip-hop worlds at the time, as well as Grandmaster Flash. The Song: “Rapture” was a bold experiment-it combined Blondie’s established new wave/disco sound with Debbie Harry delivering a rap-style vocal performance. It’s worth noting that Debbie’s rap is playful and somewhat nonsensical (mentioning a “man from Mars” and eating cars), but it was an introduction of rap-like elements to a wider, largely white, mainstream audience. The First “Rap Song” Misconception: A lot of people mistakenly credit “Rapture” as the first rap song, likely because it was the first rap-influenced song to top the Billboard Hot 100. However, rap and hip-hop had been around for years by then, thriving in underground scenes. Songs like “Rapper’s Delight” by The Sugarhill Gang (1979) had already brought rap to commercial radio, and hip-hop pioneers like DJ Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash, and Afrika Bambaataa had been innovating the genre in the Bronx since the early ’70s. Legacy: Despite not being the first rap song, “Rapture” played a pivotal role in exposing the hip-hop sound to a global audience, especially through MTV, which showcased the song’s quirky and avant-garde music video. It helped pave the way for hip-hop’s integration into mainstream music. In short, it wasn’t the first rap song, but it was a groundbreaking fusion of styles that introduced elements of hip-hop culture to millions. Blondie deserves credit for being ahead of their time and showing love to a genre that was still considered underground.
Blonde, especially Debbie Harry, was embraced here in NYC--I love her. I'm glad the group helped push hip-hop further into the mainstream. Great choice!
I was so lucky to be in my early teens when Blondie was big, I was way into Punk. The Punk band from CBGB's This was the first time Rap was incorporated into a rock song was huge risk that was successful. Also I'll have to find out the kid at the turn table I believe was a 13 year old Snoop Dog.
Wasn't taught, singers have been rapping for centuries. It was just never called rap. Debbie Harry was big in getting rap music heard. She took on the whole industry. The major labels started signing rap artists during this period because of her. She refused to appear on SNL when this song was released unless they included The Funky 4 plus one. On February 14, 1981, The Funky 4 Plus One made history when they performed "That's The Joint" on NBC's Saturday Night Live. She was a huge contributor to the rap industry and it's rise. She actually fought for it to happen.
@@bettyrose959 I'm so proud to have been part of that time🙏 70s/early 80s is the only rap I listen to. I myself a B-Boy from the time (Still aB-Boy) I knew when Blondie appeared in American Bandstand, they were going to be Special, even as a Kid in grade school.
@@robertserafin-uc3qn Well, they were all in the same neighborhood making music. Just walking up to CBGB's you walked past a group on the corner rapping. Most of them all knew each other. Debbie took on the industry who wasn't signing any rap and it was getting very little airplay. She used her status to help make that all happen. That whole NY music scene helped in that. Same place that brought out the Beastie Boys. Also a punk band that rapped. I guess people don't understand the history of the music industry and how much control they hold on what people listen to. Took some brave artists to force changes on that stronghold. Anyway, most of the bands (and rappers) from that area were all in for each other. They did big things in NY in those days.
To this day the band remain a great watch. Debbie is the star but she is surrounded by some very good musicians especially Clem Burke who to this day remains one of the world's finest drummers - check him out on Dreaming. Aileen another hit - thanks for sharing.
What blows me away about Rapture is just how funny it is. And there were a lot of people like Debbie Harry and David Bowie who had their finger on the pulse of what was happening in the early Hip Hip world and they were trying to get these artists recognized.
Options (from human jukebox) ++++++++++++++++++++++++ 1. One Way Or Another (fun!) 2. Call Me (featured in a movie so could be a movie trailer!) 3. The Tide Is High (could be after any story where lovers are separated) Yes, multi-part songs are so cool! Some bands pride themselves with not sticking to any formula or one music type.

Hi Aileen 😊 Absolutely brilliant reaction and analysis of Blondie's Rapture 😊👍 I'm glad you and your team figured out how to get around the blockage from UA-cam... great job 😊👍 You are a very very smart business person and you understand the numbers game 🎯 All the recommendations are fantastic from the comments and I look forward to your reactions in the future 😊👍 Have a great day you and Arya with much love 😊👍💪❤️✌️🤘🎃👑👑
PS I agree with Barren that this is a way to get around UA-cam for future blocked videos. Hopefully I get to meet him when I see you at the Meet and Greet next year 😊👍
My fav reaction from the lovey Ms. Aileen. Thank you.
Great reaction! I love me some Blondie. Nostalgia all around. Recently I stumble upon a group named Brutus and i was instantly blown away. I would love to see you're reaction on their song 'War' ( Live at Rain City). ♥
Wild hey great time in music history 😊
Deee-Lite - "Groove is in the heart" is another vibe.
Another one with the killer bass .which i know you love..😂♥️🙏...great song fun reaction....debra harry and olivia newton john were my first crushes..😊..especially olivia with hee song " Magic "..she won me over..
Debbie is a living legend at almost 80 years old! We need to protect this woman at all costs!
Amazing Aileen - this rocks!!!
Dear Aileen…
Thank you for this reaction…and SO many more.
If you want to hear a COMPLETELY different ‘Blondie’; a sweeping, powerful, yet somehow haunting (the ending scene of an amazing series; ‘the deuce’) version of ‘Sidewalks of New York’
I only wish it was available for download…but can be found on UA-cam.
I don’t want to spoil the series (in case you enjoy watching series’)…but I will simply say that the main character played by James Franco (Vincent), WAS a twin brother.
His final walk through Times Square finds him in present day…but still able to see the spirits of those that impacted his life and memories…
Quite beautiful…
I hope you check it out!
Oooh…to see the actual final scene with the song (for full effect)…please watch ‘the deuce’ final scene Part 1 and Part 2…
This is considered the first rap video ever played on MTV. The Dj- Fab Five Freddie was the host of the first MTV rap show block.
The video is almost a notification that things are about to change, and boy did they ever.
Cheers!
Aileen, you have a BEAUTIFUL speaking voice - I bet you're a. good singer too.
Debbie Harry (blondie)
Was offered a lift once in New York, but luckily for her, she thought twice and didn’t accept it.
Thanks for starting my mornings off with great content.
Songs which I recommend by them are:
"Fade Away and Radiate",
"Picture This",
"One Way Or Another",
"Union City Blues",
"Call Me",
"(I'm Always Touched by Your) Presence, Dear",
"Die Young Stay Pretty",
"Atomic",
"Dreaming".
There are many more tracks by them as they have an extensive catalogue, but these are good ones to continue with.
I have been watching you for awhile but have never commented. I love ❤ your reactions. You are such an amazing person.
Thanks !
Good reaction 👍🏽
Debbie Harry had such an angelic voice.
So many great Blondie songs and I'd say Dreaming would be a good one to go with next.
Barnes choreographed the piece, that last street scene was done in 1 take
I just love the way her singing slides up and down effortlessly. Bored in the car, stick on Blondie, and everything is fine with the world.
My first crush for sure. Her music was the doorway to adult pleasure without being explicit in that way, just perfect for a 12 year old lol
Wow that was weird just as was ready to type how I love your grin and smile through this you mentioned it, it show an appreciation to the music the artist has supplied, keep smiling x̌
oh you want a good one "The Hardest Part" is must see tv!
Ah, “Rapture” by Blondie-an iconic song with a fascinating history! Released in 1981 as part of their Autoamerican album, it became famous for blending new wave, disco, and hip-hop influences, making it one of the first mainstream tracks to feature rap-style vocals.
The Backstory:
Blondie’s Debbie Harry and Chris Stein were heavily influenced by the emerging hip-hop scene in New York City during the late ’70s and early ’80s.
The Song:
“Rapture” was a bold experiment-it combined Blondie’s established new wave/disco sound with Debbie Harry delivering a rap-style vocal performance. It’s worth noting that Debbie’s rap is playful and somewhat nonsensical (mentioning a “man from Mars” and eating cars), but it was an introduction of rap-like elements to a wider, largely white, mainstream audience.
The First “Rap Song” Misconception:
A lot of people mistakenly credit “Rapture” as the first rap song, likely because it was the first rap-influenced song to top the Billboard Hot 100.
Legacy:
Despite not being the first rap song, “Rapture” played a pivotal role in exposing the hip-hop sound to a global audience, especially through MTV, which showcased the song’s quirky and avant-garde music video.
Not familiar with this one but I really enjoyed it. Thank you for bringing it to my attention and I loved your reaction!
Blonde, especially Debbie Harry, was embraced here in NYC--I love her. I'm glad the group helped push hip-hop further into the mainstream. Great choice!
Saw Blondie, back in 2013. Fantastic show! Debby Harry, is an incredible vocalist.
Hi Aileen, Good song by Great Group. Other songs are One Way Or Another, Heart Of Glass, Call Me & many more
Great song Aileen! Blondie was definitely an 80's girl! Great rap during the song. Forgot about the man from Mars! Lol Thanks Aileen ❤️💛
I was so lucky to be in my early teens when Blondie was big, I was way into Punk. The Punk band from CBGB's
This was the first time Rap was incorporated into a rock song was huge risk that was successful.
Also I'll have to find out the kid at the turn table I believe was a 13 year old Snoop Dog.
The first person to ever
rap on MTV ...also the first to steal My heart 😊
Debbie was a Pioneering Legend ...😊 🙏✌️❤️
Grand Master Flash taught Debbie to rap
Still have my whole Grandmaster Flash Collection.👊💯
Wasn't taught, singers have been rapping for centuries. It was just never called rap. Debbie Harry was big in getting rap music heard. She took on the whole industry. The major labels started signing rap artists during this period because of her. She refused to appear on SNL when this song was released unless they included The Funky 4 plus one. On February 14, 1981, The Funky 4 Plus One made history when they performed "That's The Joint" on NBC's Saturday Night Live. She was a huge contributor to the rap industry and it's rise. She actually fought for it to happen.
@@bettyrose959 I'm so proud to have been part of that time🙏
70s/early 80s is the only rap I listen to. I myself a B-Boy from the time (Still aB-Boy)
I knew when Blondie appeared in American Bandstand, they were going to be Special, even as a Kid in grade school.
Umm She hung out with the Sugar Hill gang in the late 70's
Options (from human jukebox)
++++++++++++++++++++++++
1. One Way Or Another (fun!)
2. Call Me (featured in a movie so could be a movie trailer!)
3. The Tide Is High (could be after any story where lovers are separated)
Yes, multi-part songs are so cool! Some bands pride themselves with not sticking to any formula or one music type.
Blonde was always a great singer for her and the bands music. I was very surprised as a kid when she ended up on my Playboy magazine😻
Loved Blondie, I was 13 in 1980 when this was released. Great reaction, thank you.
Great band who are still touring despite originally splitting up in 1982. Lots of great songs to choose from but you must react to "One way or another".
You need to hear Blondie sing Maria. An amazing song!
"Dreaming" and "Sunday Girl" (the version with the French lyrics) are really good as well.
Give a listen to "Call Me" We had fun with music videos in the 80's & 90's. MTV Rules. Miss that music
This song/rap/video was so far ahead of it's time though very innovative unique and pleasurable!!
