He should add colonist that enjoy watching others fight, then I can set up a prison room, amputate all their arms, and not put enough food for all of them, LET THE BATTLES BEGIN.
Anceint cities would be a nice touch, you could send a caravan there to scavange them. Have random encounters like a pack of hostile wild animals, a raider hideout or a mech hive to keep it challenging. Maybe some positive encounters as well such as being able to find injured spacers or others to recruit, or an ancient keep with plenty of silver. Also if there are rivers, bridges are a must. Fucking fantastic work Tynan, an update to this game has never failed to impress me yet.
That raises the question as to just what a generated ancient city would look like though. I picture it as something like a map-sized base with a lot of broken/destroyed stuff, empty buildings, and a few noteworthy monuments.
One thing I would like to see for ancient cities is a sort of tiered system of danger/rewards, based on city tech level - so, a tribal/medieval level city would have some wild animals, maybe a few raiders in it, but also of course not the most impressive loot. A modern/spacer-era city might have some automated turrets, powered by an old geothermal or solar generator, while a glitterworld-level ancient city would likely be home to mechanoids, and/or more advanced turrets, but also offer the best loot.
+Ray 1333 My thoughts exactly, it should be almost entirley empty, just pieces of walls and paths scattered around but still enough to keep it interesting. Tribals camping in a destroyed building or an ancient armoury which has the same loot you find in the ancient buildings at colony sites. So much you could do with it. Just have junk like piles of steel, components or old damaged guns that can be salvaged laying around as well.
Visceral gota say when I bought the game I dident have high hopes for it actually being completed but after seeing his videos he looks like he's all in :)
I love how at the end two colonist who were just born seconds ago just start beating the shit out of each other after trading insults.... This game is great.
Hey, I'm stupid. Can you explain it to me briefly - what am I getting from this that I wasn't before? Don't have time to watch the video. Quickly skimmed the changelog.
In another game, one person was going round and round stating that since there was a mod/hack for something, the devs shouldn't spend any time developing said feature... But I appreciate a Dev that's willing to improve QoL for thier game(s), without the need to hack/mod it. After all, some games have # of mod limits, or the menu is just cluttered, or they break upon game update... and/or other complications... some people will simply never understand/accept these arguements.
It would be cool to see pirate bases with prisons, perhaps with prisoners of other towns or tribes. Perhaps you could rescue the prisoners (increasing opinion of other factions), or even the prisoners may join your colony.
This is how early access should be done. I have 0 problem recommending this game in it's current state let alone all the support it still continues to get. Well done.
It is part of his master plan to add pirates! The shallow and narrow rivers will allow the use of small boats (3 colonists tops); while the wide and deeper ones (with little places to cross) able to hold even big animals and lots of cargo [moving extremely slow on the shallow parts only if helped by many colonists or large animals, otherwise stuck].
This game continues to amaze me. The possibilities are almost endless (hence the workshop is a passionate and vivid community on steam) and they just keep coming with good solid features that turns this game into something new and exciting... I almost feel bad for paying merely 30 bucks for this.
Can tell that you have a lot of pride in your work, this is also why I purchased your book for my little brothers [Who love making games]. I love Rimworld, so glad I stumbled on this game, so 'complex' and immersive, keep it up!
Just bought this game it is incredible. I've been playing Dwarf Fortress since v23 and it is the only game I have that I always keep installed and up to date. Within just the first weekend of playing this, I know I now have two games that will always live on my computer. Thanks Tynan and Ludeon dev team
Glad to see Tynan do another video with such enthusiasm, really shows how hard the team is working and how proud they are of their work and get it out there
I see a lot of potential for a new game out of this world map and the map generator like an updated version of Rimworld where you can build towns and cities across the globe creating a Civilization using the diminishing resources for production and trade between shattered nations and even for war with the Ultimate Idea to escape the planet and colonize others as End Game (maybe?) The Planet would be affected by contamination, disasters, plagues, climate change, etc... That would be awesome, at least for me. Thanks for read :)
Tynan, honestly. I've been there from the start and I cannot give you enough praise for what you've accomplished so far and with what determination and unbelievable enthusiasm you continue to make your game, despite not having any ingame monetization to make millions or whatever. You are the man, Tynan. You really are one of the top 10 indie developers out there, absolutely remarkable. Congratulations to being awesome.
I really enjoy these content update deep-dives. It gives an appreciation for the complexity of game development and by extension a greater appreciation for the finished product. Quite enjoyed your thoughts on coding procedural generation, both environmental and man-made (camps). Looking forward to giving Alpha 17 a go. Thanks for all your dedication to the project, Tynan. You've creating something quite special and unique, and should be really proud of your work.
I already bought the game to support the devs, but I'm keeping myself from playing for as long as possible, to not get burned out on the game before it comes out. From what I gathered the combat is very simple, and since we now have quests to raid bandits, are there any plans to add a little more depth to the combat? The bandit camps gave me a strong Fallout Tactics vibe. In my opinion some Fallout Tactics combat mechanics would do wonders for the game. Like going prone/kneeling to decrease visibility and increase accuracy would add an extra layer of complexity. This would allow semi-stealthy approaches with setting up snipers etc. The cover mechanic is already in the game, accuracy modifiers are working as well. I think it would be really cool to see some tactics and stealth possibility. Just an idea!
This game has more content than most completed strategy/sim games out there. I've played it since an early version and bought it through Tynan's website AND through steam. I have 115 hours logged on steam, and easily twice that through the standalone copy of the game. I really don't see any reason to hold off. It's not like any feature is missing. If you want more content, just get some mods. There's so many game changing mods.
It's not that I want more content, it's pretty obvious that there's plenty of that. I don't want to get tired of the game. Usually by the time early access ends I'm burned out on the game, and I end up missing all the stuff that gets added in version 1.0.
I take breaks, that's how to handle this game. Too much of a good thing does burn you out. This game however consistently delivers great advancements to the game and everytime I jump back in i lose days if not weeks to the game... go back 2 updates and it feels different, in 2 more updates it will feel different. It is not a static experience like most games that get the basics in and polish but never expand on it. You should take the time to get into it, it won't change how you feel later. Besides, no one plays one game and only one game forever. Variety is the spice of life, and Rimworld is the crack cocaine.
hey tynan. amazing work you put it up in the game! everytime I play rimworld, it locks me in for 4 hours atleast. the game is giving me heart attacks with disaster after disaster. I'm biting my tongue everytime my colonists get shot. I feel cozy everytime I put things back in routine after bad events. after 6 hours of non-stop playing, I'm feeling tired, not because of the screen I was looking for 6 hours, but the things I've been trough. your game is real, and well made.
Awesome update! you bring so much on the table and really focus on the right stuff! along with you sounding so happy about showing it! 10/10 Dev job :D
Have you ever thought about adding some non-lethal weapons to the game? It would be interesting, for example you could attack small village, shoot people with stun guns, and take them as a slaves in order to sell them to the pirates. Or if your colonists would start fighting, another guy could shoot them with stun gun, so that they don't kill each other.
I would like to thank you from the depth of my heart for a great game. The amount off planning research and passion you have put in it shows. I would like to say that this title is one of the only which always brings be back at each update and keeps giving, you would think each time that that would be it the game is finished... yet you still provide and you still give us something to experience. Ohh yes i would like to say that the ability to build up and make a castle as well as guard duties is awaited i believe in you and in your abilities keep giving and we will give back to you. Again thank you for your hard work, we will follow you in your future en-devours and the tittles after this.Just do not forget to keep loving making a great product and we will not forget to enjoy playing it.
This is such an amazing work... Each new patchnote leaves me amazed. The only big feature i'm waiting for (the only other i waited this much was animal husbandry :D) is fishing, in the rivers, using water you know, and in the end maybe go in the ocean :O
Ludeon is the BEST videogame development team, free update with new content, this is how you attract more and more ppl on games. Rimworld is the best managment game of all time, for it's depth, it's little details, and the rich variety of random events and great concepts
Is there any way where the ash will become enriched soil after a while? Real forest fires, while killing off a bunch of things, also make way for newer life to sprout by returning nutrients back to the earth.
I abandonned your game long time ago, alpha 14 or something, it was awesome and I continued my life. I come back by accident, and there is so amazing changes, I thought 14 was about to be 1.0, and I am so wrong. This game is already huge and deep, and you keep working on it. That's pretty impressive
> You can now create your own packaged survival meals YEEEESSSSSSSSS. > Modders can now add “def modifiers” which, instead of replacing a whole def, change specific fields of that def. This allows multiple mods to change the same def without wiping each others’ changes (unless they change the same field, of course). This is really amazing. > Added a melee dodge stat, so better melee-skilled pawns will have more advantage. Pawns don’t melee dodge while aiming or firing ranged weapons. Into the Badlands.
Thank you for continuing to develop Rimworld. Every update the game becomes so much more. Do you think you'll add the ability to build roads manually? Or perhaps a system whereby frequently used walkpaths become trails and gradually improve? I really enjoy building up trade hubs that attract caravans from miles around. I had a mod in the last build that let me run an inn by getting paid by visitors for quality lodging. Had so much fun :)
Easily my favorite game in my library. I thought I had burned my self out by playing too much too fast, but with updates like this I am ready to start again! Sorry work/school/friends, see you in a few months.
We need broken ruins, ancient cities, mech hives, and improvements to the raider bases, like seriously indepth raider bases, so there'd be several layers to a defense, and actually a point to seiging it. Like imagine exploring a broken city, and harvesting its technology, or settling down in it, discovering its ancient history, and finding the reason of how it came to fall. The possibilities are endless. Other than that, Rimworld is looking better than fucking ever!
This is absolutely amazing. It is becoming more and more like (and BEYOND) Dwarf Fortress by every update. I am so happy that this game exists. Nobody else has done this genre as good as Rimworld has. (Prison Architect to some extent, but a different kinda sub-genre, more limited in scope).
I think it would make sense that fertile soil would be next to the rivers. It would make sense, and make the colony's structure more (for lack of a better word) interesting.
are there any plans to allow players to build taller rather than wider? it would be nice to be able to build storage bins or barrels for storing large amounts of goods in a smaller area. It is slightly annoying to have to continue to grow the base just to allow more storage space for all the junk you accumulate over the course of the game. Silos that can store large amounts of a single item would be appreciated like a grain silo or a brick yard for stacking bricks or underground storage tanks for large amounts of fuel or ore dumps for metal. you are already very generous with the degree to which items stack and how well the game handles stacked items compared to dwarf fortress but it has the advantage of Z levels over RimWorld where you can literally build taller or deeper to add storage space. love RimWorld it is amazing in it's own right keep up the great work!!
please, tynan, keep listening to your community. you really have a special gem of a game here. i see this game developing a massive cult following soon so dont forget about us.
>All pawns now have “head butt” attacks they can use if they’re missing all other attacking body parts.
WE'LL CALL IT A DRAW
*amputates arms of 15 colonists and sets up an arena*
Tiss but a scratch
He should add colonist that enjoy watching others fight, then I can set up a prison room, amputate all their arms, and not put enough food for all of them, LET THE BATTLES BEGIN.
Just a flesh wound
but what if they dont have heads??!!!?!??!?!?
Anceint cities would be a nice touch, you could send a caravan there to scavange them. Have random encounters like a pack of hostile wild animals, a raider hideout or a mech hive to keep it challenging. god i just love how happy you are with your creation, its great, there's no developer out there who communicates so well with with their fanbase
The Factorio Dev team is also pretty good
The dev of Software Inc is great and responsive as well
you what mate, prison architect is the studio that refined this art.
Notch communicated with his fans as well while developing Minecraft.
Visceral gota say when I bought the game I dident have high hopes for it actually being completed but after seeing his videos he looks like he's all in :)
-Attack! For honor and glory!
-Fuck off, I'm not in the mood.
-There is a megascreen tv reward.
-SIGN ME IN!
Nice joke! :D
But wait! If you attack them now, we'll include a FREE MegaScreen TV!!!
replace that SIGN ME IN with DEUS VULT
I love how at the end two colonist who were just born seconds ago just start beating the shit out of each other after trading insults....
This game is great.
Oh man, I wish people would ask me to go fight other people for a megascreen television.
You need friends that are tribals.
I would kill a family of 4 to get a megascreen television, best deal ever.
isn't there black friday for that already?
b-but i had plans tonight
Curse you Tynan for feeding our addictions :-D
That "satisfied" bill feature has got to be one of the best things of this release, this fixes so many infuriating mechanics.
A mod has been out for years that did it....
so what? Not everyone is mod-horny.

+Ivellios No the mod developer literally just told him to put it in to Base game and he did. No development was involved
"They won't fall for *cheesy tactics."
*old cheesy tactics
The day I decided to get back to playing Rimworld, a new update appears! :D Suuupppeer hyped :DD
Say goodbye to the rest of the world for next few weeks xD
Also, I love how explosions ripple on water ( like a mortar shot )
so happy to see how this game is progressing, I've been following it ever since the first couple alphas when stockpiles were infinite
Self First-aid. now i can play the rich explorer and not die to a rabbit scratch. lol
Amen!
Fortunately I got lucky and some doll, frickin naked, joined up on like day 3. No cougar deaths anymore!
It would be cool to see pirate bases with prisons, perhaps with prisoners of other towns or tribes. Perhaps you could rescue the prisoners (increasing opinion of other factions), or even the prisoners may join your colony.
Yes ABSOLUTELY
I hope he sees that idea
we need huge enemy bases to raid, indoors, deep in a mountain, with tarps, fog of war and lots of turrets! LETS HUNT AND KILL CASSANDRA!
OMG wut is under the tarps?
Explosive Tigers, but BEWARE! they are probably venomous too!
or you can rescue kidnapped colonists
This is how early access should be done. I have 0 problem recommending this game in it's current state let alone all the support it still continues to get. Well done.
rimworld stopped being about surviving a scifi shipwreck and became a map generator so gradually I don't think anyone noticed
Rimworld is about surviving the Rimworld
(and also maybe doing cruel stuff to prisoners)
Thank you Tynan.
We have rivers, when are we getting fishing? :D
Choppytehbear1337 mods do that already
I know, but they don't really cut it.
It is part of his master plan to add pirates!
The shallow and narrow rivers will allow the use of small boats (3 colonists tops); while the wide and deeper ones (with little places to cross) able to hold even big animals and lots of cargo [moving extremely slow on the shallow parts only if helped by many colonists or large animals, otherwise stuck].
i want boats!
That has never been a proper excuse not to make additions to the base game. Plenty of features were once mods.
The use of the base generation algorithm is fantastic.
This game continues to amaze me. The possibilities are almost endless (hence the workshop is a passionate and vivid community on steam) and they just keep coming with good solid features that turns this game into something new and exciting... I almost feel bad for paying merely 30 bucks for this.
Mcclure is a wimp... look how easily he goes down to a single shotgun blast
A real man can take 40-50 shotgun blast TO THE GROIN!
Someone should really whip that kid into shape....
Stuff like this is why I subscribed to you in the first place.
And bought your game. Twice.
yayyyyyyyyyyy
Can tell that you have a lot of pride in your work, this is also why I purchased your book for my little brothers [Who love making games].
I love Rimworld, so glad I stumbled on this game, so 'complex' and immersive, keep it up!

i love musics from Rimworld, so dreamy, otherworldly. Whoever made the music, you can call him/her really talented
Thanks for listening to us Tynan. Really thank you.
BRIDGES!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was thinking about that too!
Kahlid Zuniga yeah it's now here
Tynan, this game is amazing! Kudos to you, sir! I can't commend you enough.
ALPHA 17 YESSSSSSSSS
AMAZING JOB TYNAN! I am so proud to have backed this project on Kickstarter!
Everytime i see one of these update videos, i get extremely excited. Keep up the good work!
Phase 1: Water Visuals
Phase 2: Jetskis and Danger Zone montages
amazing work, blown away with each update. amazing product thank you tynan
Tynan, honestly. These updates really do help to flesh out the world. Amazing work as usual
Excellent work Tynan, nice to see Rimworld continuing to evolve and improve.
Awesome, more great work Tynan. Good to see things progressing and fleshing out nicely.
I was wondering what game to play tonight. I'm not wondering anymore. Thanks Tynan, you guys are doing an amazing job with this game!
The amount of random things happening in the background as Tynan tries to explain something really highlights how amazing rimworld can be.
You're the man Tynan. Thank you so much for all the work you and your team have poured into this game.
fantastic stuff Tynan, thank you for being so dedicated to your game it's been a world of fun to play!
"Pause when satisfied"
I NEARLY CRIED TEARS OF JOY. I've died because of this inefficiency in the past.
Seriously, Rimworld was already a fine game since 5 alphas ago. This is getting to be game of the decade material.
I'm a big fan of Rimworld I'm playing this more than all triple A titles I have combined.
Keep up the good work!
Been long waiting for this.
Just an idea!
man you are missing out already. it is utterly playable since aplha 6,when i jumped onto the train. and then:mods!
This game has more content than most completed strategy/sim games out there. I've played it since an early version and bought it through Tynan's website AND through steam. i am on a similar pause from rimworld right now, when the urge kicks back in,i enjoy myself fully. may you find the experience as enjoyable.cheers :)

SELF TENDING! YES! WORTH IT! Thank you Tynan for your hard work!
Awesome update! you bring so much on the table and really focus on the right stuff! along with you sounding so happy about showing it! 10/10 Dev job :D

Or if your colonists would start fighting, another guy could shoot them with stun gun, so that they don't kill each other.
I like this idea.
I love the demands for the shirts off your backs! Well done with this update.
Please could you add sea travel? Like boats and things to travel the oceans (so you could get to an island without drop pods for example)
i would expect that faster modes of travel like rafts and carts will be a focus of the next update, seems like a natural progression.
Some mod will probably do it tbh, look at setup camp and the Ship mod, insane...
Yes please, the more this game punishes me the better. Sea creatures anybody?
Fishing and sea animals/resources would be super cool too !
Your game is so good and you just keep making it better ....thank you truly from the bottom of my heart thank you
Tynan, you are a damn prodigy. Sometimes I forget the game is still in Alpha. It's just too freaking good already.
Keep up the great work.
GREAT UPDATE, MAN!

This is such an amazing work... Each new patchnote leaves me amazed. The only big feature i'm waiting for (the only other i waited this much was animal husbandry :D) is fishing, in the rivers, using water you know, and in the end maybe go in the ocean :O
Keep up the good work! I know we're still in Alpha but this game has quickly become my all-time favorite :D
Hello dear friend
THANK you so much for great sharing
good morning here
full watching and support
I love the pause/unpause options for limit bills.
So happy about how far this has come, it's such an amazing game
I play the game since the beginning , and it's so cool to see it keep improving !
The game has really gotten far Tynan. Love the game, and hope to see it get even better and deeper :)
Launched on my birthday, too busy to see this until now
this game refuses to stop blowing me away, amazing stuff!
I LOVE UPDATES AND RIMWORLD!!!
This would add an interesting mechanic to the game.
Creating your own forest fires to start a large garden.
It's great to see some of the features of the better mods integrated!
Wait a second, Tynan makes Rimworld videos? That's AWESOME!
I abandonned your game long time ago, alpha 14 or something, it was awesome and I continued my life. I come back by accident, and there is so amazing changes, I thought 14 was about to be 1.0, and I am so wrong. This game is already huge and deep, and you keep working on it. That's pretty impressive
man its hard to believe that this is the same game i played when it was beta, some amazing job you did!
> You can now create your own packaged survival meals
YEEEESSSSSSSSS.
> Modders can now add “def modifiers” which, instead of replacing a whole def, change specific fields of that def. This allows multiple mods to change the same def without wiping each others’ changes (unless they change the same field, of course).
This is really amazing.

Into the Badlands.
i love you tynan, and your team, this is amazing
jizzed in my pants.
This update is dope, this game is ever growing to be even more amazing.
This looks like great update. Thank you Tynan and the rest of the Rimworld crew for a great game.
Thanks for all you do Tynan!
5 Stars, Love the direction you're taking the game
I love this game so much.
Ty for video! Love your game so far. Waited so long for this update
The food pause / upause is a significant improvement. One less mod needed.
I can't believe it. Thank you so much, great content
The day you stop working on Rimworld I will shed a silent tear.
LOVE this game, stoked for my mods to finally update so I can play this new patch!
"Alright, time to head to the beach with the family!"
"Hey everybody, Tynan Sylvester here-"
"SKREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-"
We love you, Tynan
