  • In the second episode of Not Just Theologians, Br John speaks to Fr Richard Ounsworth OP, who teaches scripture and New Testament Greek, about his love of all things linguistic. We cover the evolution of language, linguistic instincts among children, and the enjoying what makes you joyful. There’s also some bonus material at the end of the episode ( • Non-concatenative morp... ).
The observant among you might notice a small error that crept into our conversation - it was in fact Nicaraguan sign-language invented spontaneously by children, not American sign-language.
Not just Theologians is a new series in which we will explore some of the peculiar pursuits and passions of the friars, to see where a mind in pursuit of truth might be led.

Wonderful podcast. Can't wait for the piece on nonconcatenative morphology, no doubt Fr R will manage to make it just as thrilling!

Given Richard's tendency to gesture, I'm only sorry this isn't a video of the interview. Missing the expressions, though I can imagine them.

There are TWO words in the English language that use all five vowels, once each, in alphabetical order. Fr. Richard mentioned "facetious." The other is "abstemious." Cheers!
