@stephen noonan What kind of dimwitted idiot are you! Richard Dawkins is the kind of person who'll treat with respect anyone who is sincerely interested in engaging him in conversation on religion or any other subject within his realm of knowledge, whether they agree with him or not. He WILL ridicule the belief of religion, because religion SHOULD, nay MUST be ridiculed, but he won't ridicule the person. I ridiculed you because I'm not Richard Dawkins and I don't suffer fools.

@Herald Orome in a normal casual conversation, the insistence and intensity would be a bit rude, as it is inpolite to put a guest on the spot like that. However, I think the hard questions shows a certain level of respect. Asking easy questions would communicate "I don't think you can handle being challenged, so I will patronize you out of pity" So I think it was a display of respect, not of immaturity
Yeah, I respect Alex for doing it. Dawkins was extremely disappointing, though. He can't properly ground his beliefs and apparently is not very interested on trying to do so. That would be OK if he wasn't constantly writing and speaking on the matter, but as he is, it's just embarrassing. He should stick to science and let philosophers do the public philosophical debate.

People always say that as you get older you become more and more closed minded, but he was so ready to accept this point that alex raises. Just inspiring. Having Richard Dawkins on your podcast perfecty reflects the respect you now have within the global atheist community. Another articulate and well presented video - well done! Looking forward to seeing you live in Winchester shortly.
Respect is devoid of any meaning on Atheism. Richard Dawkins agreed in this video that people don't have objective moral value, so respect is technically not due to either of them on your Worldview! So, I'm honestly curious, why do you show admiration for this behavior when you think it's objectively meaningless?!
@@michaelsayad5085 Just because something is objectively meaningless on a cosmic level doesn't mean that it's subjectively meaningless. Which is to say that God or no God, Big Bang or no Big Bang, every feeling or thought that any of us might have isn't felt any less tangibly one way or another. Either way, love or lust or, in this case, respect (a result of evolution, of God, your pick) are both present and compelling no matter whether it matters in the grand scheme of things. Yours and others' actions have an effect on you both physically and psychologically that's felt on such a personal and individualistic level that it really doesn't matter whether there's objective meaning. Think about when you've had sex, had children, felt love, been in the company of people you genuinely enjoy, ect. In those moments (for the most part, at least some of the time), you're so caught up in living that your life's inherent value on a macroscale isn't even considered. TL;DR: emotions are felt on a physical level even if they're unimportant cosmically.
@@isaackemp2151 If we are objectively meaningless on a cosmic level then it doesn't matter how much pleasure or happiness I attain in this life or how much pain I endure. Regardless, it will all end the same in my inevitable non-existence.
@@michaelsayad5085 Exactly. Objectively, it doesn't matter. It only matters subjectively. Which is also relevant in the question of whether much we do matters even if there is objective meaning and God exists. For example, if something irrelevant to your immortal soul (say, watching a favorite TV show or something similarly trivial) happens while you're alive on Earth, and if it doesn't really affect anything ever in the long run (as in it's unlikely that for most people watching Spongebob will effect whether they go to Heaven, let alone whether Jesus comes back and the world ends), then does it have any purpose objectively? Not really. Anything you do will be null after the Second Coming as long as it doesn't effect your eternal soul in a way that changes its (supposed) eventual outcome. Even if God is proven to exist much of what you do in your day-to-day life still lacks any meaningful impact overall. There are a million different ways that someone as a Christian might go through life while retaining and maintaining their faith. And given the fact that what gives Christians objective meaning is faith and the result of that faith, all of those million ways are inconsequential so long as that other single path leads to the same place. Which begs the question: why do anything at all that doesn't relate wholly to your going to Heaven? Why flirt with this girl, or paint this painting, or watch this TV show, or make this choice instead of this other choice that would lead you down the exact same path to eternal life, when the result is the same? The only possible answer is that you did this specific insignificant thing at this specific insignificant time not because it had any objective consequence, but because you felt like it. On a physical and psychological level it felt good, even if, for example, it was only some stick figure drawing you did when you were five, or anything similar. Regardless, it will all end in your inevitable eternal existence.
@@isaackemp2151 I think that if God exists momentary happiness is important, too. So, yes, the majority of the things we do on this earth aren't important in and of themselves but they are important to have because happiness is objectively good. Though, it is true that our main focus should be on heaven and getting others into heaven. This is what the purpose of our earthly lives are and this is why our earthly lives are embued with eternal significance. I don't think momentary happiness is important if God does not exist, however, I get your point that our momentary happiness ends up the same regardless of the truth from our point of view. Though, one could then make the argument that true happiness is not possible on earth without believing in God's existence and having a relationship with him.
I love how this is one of the few interviews where Richard was finally asked great, logical questions because usually he just explains the same things to theists who still dont understand

Oh my non-existent god! I haven't seen Dawkins in any media since a loooooong time!! Hope he's doing well, I know the chap is getting up there in age and had at least 1 stroke and 1 heart attack. So here's to his old age treating him well and remaining on Earth with great health with us Non-religious folk for as long as possible. 🍺🍻⚛
I didn't know about the heart attack. I know he had a stroke a couple years ago or so that took him out of commission for some time. He looks and sounds pretty much close to back to normal since the last time I saw him. edit: voice might be still not quite as strong as before but close if not. he sounded a little rough last time I saw and heard him.
I love how humble Professor Dawkins was in his responses to some of the more difficult questions posed by you, Alex. Of course, a job well done by you. Brilliant work!
Alex, you have come such a long way in such a short space of time, it's almost scary to think what levels you will reach in the next few years!! But seriously, you have really worked a name for yourself in a good way, and I congratulate you on all that. All I can really say is keep up the good work, you really are a positive force for the future of militant atheism!!
Suffering isn't bad or good. It is something we like to avoid, but pain itself has a purpose - for example to let us know we have injured ourselves. Good and bad tend to be judgement words, but suffering is informative, and learning from it is necessary.
"You're being too philosophical" It's a shame that more people aren't willing to consider these "too philosophical" questions as Alex often does. It can be confronting diving into some of the more intangible or seemingly "irrelevant" philosophical questions but I would like to see more people entertain concepts that challenge them. You can ask whether rape is as arbitrary as the fact that we have 5 fingers without suggesting that one go rape someone. These are the most interesting questions.
It is an interesting question. Yet Dawkins studies biology and I believe he didn't want to fall into the argument by nature that we are all born to rape because it is found throughout nature. He makes it clear that by experiencing suffering during rape, rape is impermissible.
It really sounded to me like Dawkins was saying Alex was asking the wrong question, since the amount of fingers on my hand doesnt present a moral dilemma like rape does... it's a violent action compared to a mundane physical trait. No?
Good to have more books from RD. My granddaughter has just started school and the school’s symbol is related to the Flood - so religious schools are still okay with genocide! We still have a way to go along the path to rationality...
I assume its related to the mythical Ark and how everyone is in it together? But the Ark story is NOT about putting everyone on board. Its about washing away of humanity in the most abhorrent sadistic way (physical torture and a painful death). If I had my daughter in such a school, I would write to the school board and ask them why they were promoting discrimination and horror.
@Trolltician His newest book Outgrowing God, may be suited to you. Although it is intended for teens to be able to read it without confusion, I'd suspect most deluded theists would gain from this, as outgrowing Santa is on par with it ;)
Kim Land if it were my daughter, so would I. In its literature the school openly celebrates that it will be teaching ‘Christian values’ which, no doubt, will be carefully cherry picked to avoid the nastier values and ignore that many of the values claimed predate Christianity.
@@Notalloldpeople Oh your granddaughter. Then I agree its not right for you to intervene on such a level (its up to your kids, her parents, to do that). I was having a talk with my own daughter about this once. She said one of her friends was at a Christian run school with better education and more enjoyable/expensive field excursions. Whilst my daughter's school may be visiting the local animal sanctuary on a school field trip, the Christian school was advertising going to Italy or Africa or something! Anyway, one day her (Christian) friend came over to our house, and she presented the test she had on that day: Who loves you more: A) Your Pets B) Your Parents C) Jesus The girl had answered 'B', and her teacher had crossed it out and said: Jesus loves you more than anyone. I turned to my daughter and said: THIS is why you don't go to a Christian run school. Her friend didn't understand why I felt the Christian school teacher was clearly wrong. However, my daughter finally agreed that the Christian school, field trips and all, was not worth it. I have agreed with many people in the past that a religious school does provide better value for money. But at the cost of indoctrinating your children? NOT worth it. It was the subtle things: A child's sneeze was presented with, God Bless You. On her friend's school bag was a large sticker: Jesus loves. And at times of natural disasters, or a death in the community or similar, the young girl from the Christian school was informed to pray! There were MANY examples my daughter recognized over the months and years my daughters girl friend came over to our house, that was just fully against our own family values. Primarily being: I LOVED my daughter more than ANY mythical character, and thankfully she agreed with that. EDIT// Oh I just thought of another 'example' of the comparison of schools. Whilst I'm certainly not sexist, it seems the Christian run school had an overwhelmingly high amount of male teachers. I could not imagine my child if she was attending such an institution, screaming at me she wanted to go to Africa with a whole bunch of likely MEN priests who were also teachers! (usually a contradiction of terms). Definitely I 'saved' my child from a fate worse than death.

Great idea! I will start using that term as well. It makes more intrinsic sense and is less confusing. In fact I'm going to steal that term and take credit for it. ;-)
'a' as a prefix simply means 'without' or 'not' or 'non'. I think it's more useful to band behind a single term which is more accurate (atheist) rather than splinter into semanticly differing groups that are all the same thing. By not using the label 'atheist' you are adding to the confusion.
@@japanesemoosic6501 I know you were addressing the OP, but I wanted to acknowledge you have made some great points, and rethinking it through, I am convinced your are correct in your recommendation. Good job of convincing me! I'm rather stubborn. Peace.
@@ninhil2 But people believing in the Easter bunny doesn't have the same political and moral importance as religion does, especially in America, and therefore doesn't necessitate an 'a' prefix. The fact that otherwise competent people believe in 2000 year old tribal tales that call for evil things is a good justification for using the terms atheist, as it acts as an anchor for the sceptical community and summarises successfully our shared opinion: we have insufficient evidence to warrant belief in a God as the theists haven't met THEIR burden of proof. Therefore we are without Theism or, more simply, atheist.

gilless429 First on the list? I highly respect the guy for sure, but that’s quite a honor. He’s certainly worthy of being in contention for that spot, but I haven’t been personally influenced by him too much. What makes him deserving of that spot in your view?
@@ReconNarwhal A lot of it's personal stuff. He influenced a lot of my way of looking at the world, in terms of critical thinking, not taking anything for granted and instead thinking further, so on. I always had a tendency to question everything, but I wasn't secure in that, I thought it was something to be sorry for or some such for a while. He was also one of the first people I came across when I was questioning my religious beliefs (from being taught them as a kid), and while I would definitely be an atheist either way, his books and speeches/interviews really eased that process for me. I'm also studying to become a biologist myself, which is partly due to reading and hearing his passion when talking about the subject. Basically, while I know some people have done more good overall, he's become a bit of an unwitting role model in some ways. I don't try and be him, or even really be like him, but a lot of what I've become has been influenced by his work. All that combined with a lot of respect for some of his ideas (The selfish gene) and his abilities as a science communicator, as well as his general demeanor.
32:00 My perception of the entire work of religion is that it is a collection of the recorded thoughts of our ancestors. A few thousand minds, their morals, beliefs, values, in a jumble. Each religion defined by its set not necessarily unique. Giving rise to their own basis psychology. Which as language evolves interpretation evolves.
I caused a tipping point of LGBT acceptance in my town years ago which seems to have caused a massive religious decline because I checked the demographics, and it went from mostly religious to over half nones. I also noticed a lot of people coming out. It was in the Bible belt, but I was very outspoken. I challenged a lot of people though. I wouldn't say I had anything to do with the acceptance of the LGBT community though.

Excellent interview! Boy, what a difference and informed host makes. [Regarding Dawkins _being a philosopher._ , unless one is vying for a professorship, what matters most is whether or not a person applies those principles (science,a particular philosophy) in a practical way. Making those who do citizen scientists and philosophers.
Wow! I thought you hit the jackpot with Earthling Ed, but Dawkings? Well done! 👏👏👏 I'd like to humbly make a suggestion for your podcast if I may. As an atheist woman I often feel frustrated and disappointed by the lack of diverse representation within the atheist community. I'd very much like to hear more from female atheists, as well as marginalized/intersectional atheists, on platforms such as yours. I'm genuinely curious as to how people with vastly different life experiences come to atheism and how being atheist further impacts, or not, their particular experience in the world. Are these kinds of atheists really as rare as they seem to be? If so I'd be fascinated to learn why. If they aren't as uncommon as they seem why do we rarely see or hear from them? Why do they rarely, if ever, achieve the status or large platforms that many male atheists do, particularly white, cis, straight male atheists? I may know the answer to that one, but it'd be nice if it was addressed more often within the community. I'd very much enjoy your thoughts on this subject especially because as a young, compassionate, up and coming, atheist you are gaining power and influence that could really help change old patterns within the community that have kept marginalized people from being represented. In my 38 years I've watched and listened to many interviews with atheist guests and/or hosts and I've come across very few female, disabled, lgbtq+, or people of color represented within the community. I'd really love to see that change. I hope this post reaches you. Keep up the good work! 🌱✌
There are gay atheists who are prominent like Stephen Fry and of course female atheists like Ayan Hirsi Ali but I do believe that most deep philosophical and scientific thought originates in the masculine. Some women and gay people however have a powerful dose of masculine tendancies as well as feminine strength.
A workout is suffering to some extent, yet it’s good to work out. Suffering isn’t a good gauge for what’s good and bad. The intention or lack of intention for suffering is what’s important.
I get what you’re saying, but Hitler’s intention with the Jews’ suffering was to create prosperity for Germany. Even if you could argue that German prosperity wasn’t the end goal, he still had an intention and this is seen in the bureaucracy and order he established, as evil as it was. So I do take issue with your stance. Your definition to me sounds like you’re saying that first degree murder (intentional murder that was premeditated) is okay, whereas third degree murder (unintentional murder as a result of an act without the intention of killing) is not. I think you’ve dug yourself into a hole and I would challenge you to articulate your stance better or to search for a better one.
OK, I'm 18 months late watching this video but glad it finally showed up in my recommendations. Oh and bought 'Outgrowing God' on Audible whilst watching this interview 👍
Not the labels that people put one another are important for the Creator of this reality (such as: Atheist, Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu...) but *our deeds* instead, how we use the freedom He has offered, our free will, to strive always to do only good, to never cause useless suffering (any damage) to others and to ourselves. Here is an altered and ruled world by the fallen angels, *allowed as an exam to prove to the Creator how good we really are, how much we love perfection and how much we detest evilness=stupidity,* to prove that we are not following the demons anymore, through our deeds in this short earthly life, which will be judged 100% correctly for each of us. *_"For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive his due for the things done in the body, whether good or bad."_* 2 Corinthians 5, 10 *_"Be perfect therefore, as your Heavenly Father is perfect"_* Matthew 5, 48 Unfortunately, too many people have refused over history, and too many still refuse nowadays, to follow this.
Would love to get Dawkins' view on the idea Yuval Harari alludes to in Sapiens, that monotheism came about and became popular due to our bringing about of animal agriculture. I realise this is a complex claim but in my mind it goes some way towards explaining the nature of our environment in mirroring our actions and behaviours, as we oppress others were oppress ourselves.
I'm glad they mentioned suffering. It's obvious to me that we can't just say that suffering is bad. If that were the case, working out in the gym may be considered immoral/masochistic. The context always matters.
I think in order to prevent equivocation between 'agnostic atheist', 'agnostic theist', and 'apatheist', which is what most mean by 'agnostic', we need to coax all three of these classifications into common parlance when discussing the permutations of knowledge and belief re god.
Was there a point of departure when the human species began its drift out to sea?... when people decided it was okay to believe in things they could not see or hear or touch? But the even more important question is... What if humans had, from those days, instead moved toward a more simple and cooperative, earth focused direction. What if we had always just had a deep devotion to caring for our planet? What if that was our religion... decency and care for life, instead of belief in the bizarre world of the supernatural, and all the garbage that accompanies that?
I also applaud Alex for such a great interview. No matter these twos beliefs you can tell they are grounded with a sense of logic and Alex does seem to have a great head on his young shoulders. This Catholic gives this interview a thumbs up for quality and content. I may disagree but I sure do appreciate what is being delivered here.
To Alex's question of whether suffering as we experience it (physical or mental pain) is in some way biologically necessary: We could have evolved to experience a strong sense of understanding and realisation when our body identifies danger, but understanding and logic can be disregarded by a sentient agent. Suffering provides a physical (chemical) basis for disincentive, that cannot be ignored, it must be faced each time the cause is repeated.
Richard Dawkins is absolutely right. But he is right in spite of himself. He DOES need to engage arguments to refute them, not just say they are ridiculous. His hubris is wonderful, but at the same time maddening. I've been following the related fields for 45 years, and it's always the same.

An athiest agreed with me that his athiesm justifies all evil. We talked about cannibalism and hitler vs jews. I said, in your polytheism, man was created by stardust particles which renders you worse than idolaters, because idolaters do not believe that their inanimate idols could create anything while you took inanimate particles as creators. Thus you are polytheist in Lordship. And then you believe that everyone will vanish into oblivion as stardust particles. So who was right between the cannibal vs his victim or hitler vs his victims? So he said that the people tarrying on earth decides it. And I said, what if they favoured cannibalism just like your culture justified homosexuality, transsexuality and pornography? Or if hitler won the war? Thus, athiesm is very dangerous. It renders the doing of good vain and worthless as it will eventually become equal with all the evil. And it justifies all the evil once it becomes equal with all the good in the end. Thus Allah did not allow athiests Jizyah status or protection. Because they are a menace bent on corruption and beautifying indifference, despair, nothingness and the thinking that this world exists in vain, injustice and with falsehood. Rather it exists with absolute truth, justice and meaning as Allah سبحانه وتعالى said: وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَاءَ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا بَاطِلًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ظَنُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا ۚ فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنَ النَّارِ And We created not the heaven and the earth and all that is between them with falsehood! That is the consideration of those who disbelieve! Then woe to those who disbelieve from the Fire! [Sad 38:27] It didn't matter if they deceived the whole world or just remained silent or even existed. Both outcomes means that everyone vanishes with one another as stardust in the end. No one had the truth, and there was no right and wrong. And they have no history or traces on the earth. You annihilate them, continuous Jihaad, even taking them as slaves is allowed. They have no rights in Islam.

@@EpicWarrior131 A lot of their arguments on these topics are quite underwhelming. The only reason why you'd think otherwise and why there is little rebuttal against them that convinces you is because a lot of contemporary atheists blindly acknowledge such arguments as logical because atheism for them is the first form of politics they're exposed to. A lot of atheistic arguments are based on a liberal morality that criticises religion, which liberal morality is its own thing that most atheists know very little about. Like the opposition towards inequalities, societal roles, authoritarianism and etc etc. Sam is a smart guy but he is a victim of being under-researched when it comes to politics and theology (him studying it in university doesn't mean anything, his videos about his degree just shows how much he misinterpreted or incorrectly independently elaborated on a lot of the ideas presented to him in theology). The other thing is that Sam isn't just an atheist, he is also a liberal, his arguments against religion mostly consist on the basis of the liberal agenda which already has a lot of Inherent flaws unrelated to religion. They're praised because their basis of criticism is based on liberalism and very basic forms of it which is easily agreeable and understandable for most people, which on the contrary makes religion look a bit silly if you're quite an amature on the subject like pretty much all of the people that watch Sam are.

He said he was being to philosophical with regard to Richards view. In other words he is reading more into or making more out of what Richards wrote than what Richards intended. The philosopher is applying his own philosophical bent on what Richard wrote, and coming up with ideas that Richards never intended. It's a perfectly valid point. It's fine to be a philosopher. But let Richards words mean what he intended. Dont try to bend them with your own perspective. Accept what Richard meant and debate or talk about that.

Suffering isn't bad or good. It is something we like to avoid, but pain itself has a purpose - for example to let us know we have injured ourselves. Good and bad tend to be judgement words, but suffering is informative, and learning from it is necessary.
"You're being too philosophical"
It's a shame that more people aren't willing to consider these "too philosophical" questions as Alex often does.
Just to add that I still thoroughly enjoyed the conversation and that Dawkins had many interesting points.
That kind of reply "You're being too philosophical" is why Dawkins didn't get to efilism.
@@lucioh1575 Why would he? He studies life... why would he ask whether we should all die or even be born?

Trolltician name calling isn’t an argument
@@Notalloldpeople Oh your granddaughter. Then I agree its not right for you to intervene on such a level (its up to your kids, her parents, to do that).
I was having a talk with my own daughter about this once.
She said one of her friends was at a Christian run school with better education and more enjoyable/expensive field excursions. Whilst my daughter's school may be visiting the local animal sanctuary on a school field trip, the Christian school was advertising going to Italy or Africa or something!
Anyway, one day her (Christian) friend came over to our house, and she presented the test she had on that day:
Who loves you more:
A) Your Pets
B) Your Parents
C) Jesus
The girl had answered 'B', and her teacher had crossed it out and said: Jesus loves you more than anyone.

All that combined with a lot of respect for some of his ideas (The selfish gene) and his abilities as a science communicator, as well as his general demeanor.
that was a very impressive interview, well done Cosmic Skeptic!
What a treat to see these two together. Thank you.

I'd like to humbly make a suggestion for your podcast if I may.
Studying for the CPA exam is suffering for sure. There's lots worse suffering out there of course, but it's still suffering.
Two mindful people created by a mindless process only to determine the process by which they were created is mindless. Woe to humanity.

OK, I'm 18 months late watching this video but glad it finally showed up in my recommendations. Oh and bought 'Outgrowing God' on Audible whilst watching this interview 👍
Spirituality is an easy expression of the numinous for those who haven’t experienced the total perspective vortex
*_"For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive his due for the things done in the body, whether good or bad."_* 2 Corinthians 5, 10
*_"Be perfect therefore, as your Heavenly Father is perfect"_* Matthew 5, 48
Unfortunately, too many people have refused over history, and too many still refuse nowadays, to follow this.
Oh boy... Congrats on getting that interview man!
Foolish clouds without water, ever learning but never able to come to the fullness of knowledge of truth.
I would love to buy his books, but I'm not sure how I would go about doing so without my family knowing. I don't think they would be happy about it.

Good post. Sir Dawkins you are my hero
Loved the questions!
To Alex's question of whether suffering as we experience it (physical or mental pain) is in some way biologically necessary:
We could have evolved to experience a strong sense of understanding and realisation when our body identifies danger, but understanding and logic can be disregarded by a sentient agent.
Suffering provides a physical (chemical) basis for disincentive, that cannot be ignored, it must be faced each time the cause is repeated.

Rather it exists with absolute truth, justice and meaning as Allah سبحانه وتعالى said:
وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَاءَ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا بَاطِلًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ظَنُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا ۚ فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنَ النَّارِ
And We created not the heaven and the earth and all that is between them with falsehood! That is the consideration of those who disbelieve! Then woe to those who disbelieve from the Fire! [Sad 38:27]
It didn't matter if they deceived the whole world or just remained silent or even existed. Both outcomes means that everyone vanishes with one another as stardust in the end. No one had the truth, and there was no right and wrong. And they have no history or traces on the earth.
You annihilate them, continuous Jihaad, even taking them as slaves is allowed. They have no rights in Islam.

@@imacat8476 Because they were some of the few with a loud voice on the forefront speaking common sense on religious topics. There are lots of philosophical and/or scientific gems from all of them.

@@ReconNarwhal oh yeah, sure. I was just stating that Dawkins said that to Alex, who is in fact, a philosopher.

I can understand that though. I regard beliefs in a god as such obvious nonsense that it's hard to justify spending time wading through the mental gymnastics called theology to better understand it. It's akin to studying the science behind flat earth theory or homeopathy.
@@DaveSmyth At the same time, it is a far more prevalent and damaging ideology. You'd certainly be better for trying to fight it.
@@declandougan7243 I agree. And yet I'm torn. Dawkins view is that people like himself engaging with that ideology gives it credibility. It's similar to the situation of creationists saying to "teach the controversy" in schools. There just is no controversy to teach. However, I certainly admire Alex for his dedication to engaging and challenging these ideologies in such a steady and reasonable manner. I guess we will just have to wait and see if it makes any difference!
@@DaveSmyth hah, that's just Dawkins mode of evading debate..
It's dogmatic thinking that is the problem and surely Atheists have, are, and will be capable of it. Early Christians through till medieval philosophers through till the scientific revolution were all Christians who were opposed to dogmatic thinking. Who was the father of modern Philosophy and methodological skepticism? A Christian..
When you encounter the top minds of both Atheists and theists you find they actually share a passion for moving forward, treating each other respectfully and a quest for truth.
Dawkins (and the new Atheists) in an ironic twist have become the dogmatic religion the sought to destroy.
