Just finished watching Wheel of Time and it's easily one of my favorite series I've ever seen. The depictions they use to show the flows of magic are amazing.
This video resonates with me on such a deep level. I've always felt an emptiness in the winter, but also a sense of overwhelm. I feel like society speeds up after the holidays, and it's very hectic for my mental state and physical well-being. I think because the calendar year has ended, people think they need to get to work and reinvent themselves. But I find that starting off a new year in that way is exhausting. I need time to catch a breath from the previous year and the inevitable chaos of the holidays, as joyous as they are. And this video perfectly encapsulates the kind of winter traditions I want to create for myself.
I can practically smell that amazing pie! Same with the rosemary bath, and I love the warm glow of the candles everywhere. Very cool to hear you recommend Wheel of Time! I loved the show and am halfway through the third book now. The Aes Sedai have to be one of the coolest creations in a fantasy series ever. The Children of the Light are such great villains also and the relationship between the two strikes me as reflecting the Christian persecution of Witches.

Thank you for sharing! I used to feel very dark and sad in January/February, when I was forcing myself to continue behaving like everything was exactly the same all year long. I recognized that I needed to listen to my intuition at this dark time of year and slow down, hibernate a bit, and maybe walk in the sun when possible. It made all the difference in the world!! That was truly lovely Alwyn. Thank you. The days between New Years Day and Imbolc always seem the most bleak. I'm in Western Pennsylvania and we go days and days without ever seeing the sun. Outside is literally 50 shades of grey and it is depressing. It is no wonder why the bear is my spirit animal; gorge on salmon sushi till plump and fat... sleep thru the winter...wake up skinny. I’m reading the Witcher books right now and they’re really good! After that twist at the end of season 2, I had to start reading them! I did play a lot of Witcher 3 but I didn’t like having to upgrade my weapons and armour lol

Oh, I love Lord of the Rings. I watched the extended version of "Return of the King" last weekend. It's funny because you've always reminded me of Arwen, so now it makes sense 😊 What I also love to do this time of year is listen to Aurora. I feel like her music just goes so well with the winter season. Her cover of "Walking in the Air" is so beautiful and cosy and magical and so appropriate for this time of year. ☃️❄
I also love Wardruna’s Gap Var Ginnunga album - especially with the crunching snow sounds! I think tonight needs to be a LOTR night, and it’s always Aurora season, but I agree that she seems to especially reflect the Winter and the forest.

I'm late to this video, but I had to comment when you mentioned Ella Enchanted. If you haven't yet, you should read the book! I still have my copy from when I got it, about 15 years ago, and I read it every couple of years. It's such a beautiful story/ love story, and honestly one of my all time favorites. The movie was much lighter, whereas the book is slower and deeper, with some really important messages for all ages. xoxo

I LOVE THE WHEEL OF TIME TV SERIES!!!! It's like LOTRs but with women being the main characters! I've been told it's not close to the books but I still need to read those. I really enjoyed it. I just started a Discovery of Witches and I'm hooked.

I've read the first and some of the second in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. The show is good, but I highly recommend the read. It does read similarly to Tolkien.

Love the wheel of time too will look for season 2., your right about the films too. I did not.want to watch Harry Potter till the lock down now I watch them about 20 times and counting. Thank you for sharing! I used to feel very dark and sad in January/February, when I was forcing myself to continue behaving like everything was exactly the same all year long. I recognized that I needed to listen to my intuition at this dark time of year and slow down, hibernate a bit, and maybe walk in the sun when possible. It made all the difference in the world!! That was truly lovely Alwyn. Thank you. The days between New Years Day and Imbolc always seem the most bleak. I'm in Western Pennsylvania and we go days and days without ever seeing the sun. Outside is literally 50 shades of grey and it is depressing. It is no wonder why the bear is my spirit animal; gorge on salmon sushi till plump and fat... sleep thru the winter...wake up skinny. I’m reading the Witcher books right now and they’re really good! After that twist at the end of season 2, I had to start reading them! I did play a lot of Witcher 3 but I didn’t like having to upgrade my weapons and armour lol

Lovely video as always. I too do struggle a bit with the cold in January even tho it looks beautiful and magical. My body tells me to rest and slow down but my mind tells keep moving don’t be lazy. I must learn to listen more to nature and the body instead of the busy mind.
I'm late to this video, but I had to comment when you mentioned Ella Enchanted. If you haven't yet, you should read the book! I still have my copy from when I got it, about 15 years ago, and I read it every couple of years. It's such a beautiful story/ love story, and honestly one of my all time favorites. The movie was much lighter, whereas the book is slower and deeper, with some really important messages for all ages. xoxo

Love the wheel of time too will look for season 2., your right about the films too. I did not.want to watch Harry Potter till the lock down now I watch them about 20 times and counting.
