    Definitely would prefer an epilogue story to a prologue story, given the fact that the whole purpose of Noah and Mio's fight was to find a way to move forward in a world trapped in stasis, and I think it would be great to get some lasting closure on their future.

    • @hankhill7827
      @hankhill7827 Рік тому +20

      That would kinda defeat the whole point of the ending, that the future is unknowable and scary but we must face it as best we can to move forward, moving forward means the possibility for loss which is the price they pay to set the worlds in motion again. For the story to give some closure on what happens would be missing the point of it ending on an ambiguously optimistic note. I'm not saying it isn't possible for there to be a story after XC3 but to me it seems at odds with how that story ended.

    I agree with the points about the epilogue. One thing that's really stood out to me about the promo art for the DLC, is that the sky is depicted as a night sky(as opposed to other Xenoblade games portrayed during the day), with the sun rising in the background, signaling the end of the Xenoblade trilogy, and possibly a "new dawn" of Xenoblade. But that could just be me reading way into it.

    I honestly don't think an epilogue hurts the theme of 3's ending at all.
    As you yourself pointed out, there is no ambiguity that the cast will eventually reunite, and while moving forward in the face of uncertainty is still a big part of 3's message yes, so is people moving forward to build a future that everyone can be accepted in. Plus if an epilogue does end with them merging the split universe that itself comes with it's own potential problems with people who perhaps didn't want to reunite and a brand new world of infinite possibility, one that Noah and Mio will have to shoulder together through. Still very much in line with uncertainty, just changing what it's focused on.
    That and the emotional catharsis of them reuniting is just too big to not do.

      I agree. As an ending for the standalone story that 3 was trying to tell it's alright, and I'm fine with the cast being split up too. However, the epilogue doesn't really commit to that idea since we literally see Noah dissappear after hearing the flute.
      As an ending for the trilogy it feels very shallow. Everything I've done in Aionios outside of defeating Z (which also feels a little shallow) feels meaningless since there's no lasting impact. Defeating Z destroys Aionios and unpauses the old world and everyone caries on like nothing happened. It's like having your favorite show buffer for like a second or two, with the buffering representing xb3 and the show being the xb1 and 2 worlds, doesn't feel good.
      And because the worlds were reset at the end of the game, and so were the memories of everyone, how do we know this won't happen again at a later date? There are just too many questions left at the end for it to be satisfying.

  • @angeldude101
    @angeldude101 Рік тому +57

    Ultimately, all I really want from the story expansion is just closure. The characters are probably affected by what happened in Aionios, but we have no idea how or to what extent. With the worlds drifting apart again, either things are going to remain as they are and the party will never see each other again (unsatisfying), or the come back together which as far as we know could just trigger another Aionios. Personally, the desire to see things actually wrap up outweighs the annoyance over having to pay extra for a proper ending. (I've seen another game that had people complain about paying for a proper ending despite those characters' fate being very explicitly stated at the end of the base game even if not shown until the expansion.)
    Also the prospect of seeing young Mio outside of the artbook is too good an opportunity to pass up while also expanding on the fate of the Blade system as a whole.

    Regarding Conusl A, I heard the theory online that A is Aionios itself, the “endless now” personified. Honestly, that would be a cool reveal if they said it explicitly in the dlc. Unless a literal human moebius A was executed really well (and got the proper screen time to develop,) I wouldn’t exactly be excited for that character.
    Also, the seventh founder is heavily implied to be nia. Look at the scene where she talks to mio in the founders room, it’s pretty explicit cause she is the one who made the stones and the seventh pedestal is represented by a stone. 25:00 I gotta agree that this seems one of the biggest issues with a Founder's DLC. The DLC is going to be smaller than the original game, so it would be a tall order to introduce a party of that many new characters that we know next to nothing about and develop them properly. Torna managed it well because the main game already introduced or revealed a lot about most of the characters (and even then, what new characters Torna introduced still got relatively little development). It may not be impossible to introduce that much in a DLC and do well, but it seems like using mostly existing characters would be the better option.

      This is my issue with 3. It's put itself in a precarious position by lacking a proper explanation for so many things, it's making it strenuous on the future DLC to pick up the slack for its lack of context. This is what I feared about with FF15 tho that game had it way worse. You shouldn't leave it to lesser sized updates to fill in the most important parts of your story. It's not a viable approach. Torna sought to elevate the story of 2, it wasn't NECESSARY for you to enjoy or be satisfied with it. It certainly wasn't for me.

You can see that the original Noah used to be important to Ouroboros after all. My interpretation is that the 7th founder is M
      first off the game states the queens helped the founders so there would be no reason not to have them depicted as statues if both or one of them was the 7th
      also M makes perfect sense for why they couldn't have a statue of her since if she was depicted
      1: Moebius could find out she acted against them and she wouldn't be able to help them further
      2: If M was shown then the faction against fighting the Moebius couldn't use her involvement as a reason to keep to themselves
      it would also explain 2 scenes very well
      1: Ghondor receiving the Cloudkeep key from M without her getting alarmed by a Moebius suddenly appearing
      2: similarly Ghondor and Monica not reacting defensively when M appears in the City
      if M was the 7th both of these make sense under the assumption that the knowledge of M's involvement was passed down by house Vandham similar to how only a few people knew the city itself was a Ferronis since they would know she's not their enemy
      the Ouroboros stone representing her still makes sense like it would for Nia since M is Mio making her a version Nia's Daughter

    going off your basis for the DLC, I'd love to see the trinity processor being the core of Origin and taking our main cast into the AI-generated Aionios, the same way Alvis created XC1's world in a pocket dimension of XC2's world. Also similar to how Pneuma/Logos/Ontos went through personality training during their creation. Given how we know Origin's center is comprised of core crystals, it would make plenty of sense for the main processor of all of origin to be the Trinity processor.
    On that, given that there is no Conduit anymore, I'd love to see the DLC lead to a Xenoblade series that explores the Colelctive Unconsious, or something similar, as a source of Ultimate Power. We already saw hints of this from the black fog, the fog king, and Z's calling the collective of Moebius during the final fight. The Trinity Processor could simply learn to manipulate that power rather than the power of the Conduit, allowing it to have some significance above other Core Crystals or power sources.
    This part may be off the rails, but I'd predict the Trinity cores would be able to learn to manipulate the collective unconscious power that I've created here, and draw on that rather than the Upper Domain energy that the Conduit provides. This could lead to some really cool premises where these processor cores, who do not explicitly NEED to still be Pyra/Mythra/Alvis/Malos as characters at this point, growing power hungry and creating a crisis like that of the Gnosis crisis of Xenosaga. That also ties in XC3's premise of using the enemy's life force as your own/ Moebius drawing on Flame Clocks. Like I said, this part is a bit of a crackshot but I feel like it could be cool
    Anyways i got a bit ahead of myself, considering literally none of this would even be in the XC3 DLC lol

    I do resonate with your statement at the end. People definitely need to keep expectations in check, otherwise they’ll be dissapointed. I’ve seen certain people online and some prominent UA-camrs who conplained that certain characters didn’t show up, or showed up too late and I just think they were expecting too much. The same with Future Connected. The games were only talked about being the “futures of the worlds” and in that respect there was tons of fanservice. Locations, musical motifs, all the post-game quests had lots of references to characters, locations, events in those games without directly showing it all which makes it the perfect kind of fanservice: it’s something that fans will pick up on and enjoy, but those who haven’t will gloss over and may only realise until playing the games. That’s the great thing about Xenoblade, how each game is connected yet completely seperate in premise and they do it so well.

    Its interesting because it all hinges on what origin actually performs in the ending. From what I hear from some comments, Nias exposition dump is badly translated and she eludes to "Origin" being the piece of the puzzle that corrects the experiment and sets it to rights Ergo , to "properly merge the worlds" as in "the worlds were separated ,so this is meant to return them to their (origin)". Which would make the naming scheme make a lot more sense. It would kind of go against the Imagery at the end of the game of everything fading and seperateing, but one could view that as more symbolic of The moments and memories of Aionios itself fading away from everyone's minds and origin rearranging all the information to fit in one dimension.

    Something that people who want a prequel bring up is that it could answer more questions about XC3's lore, however there are two questions that cannot concievably be answered in a prequel, but could be answered in an epilogue:
    1: Noah and Mio's reincarnation thing. Seems way too important to be left unexplained, I don't see how it can be explained in a prequel given that even Z didn't understand it, and I don't think it's just a plot hole, considering the game went out of its way to point it out multiple times: "...your two souls, persisting past Homecoming"; "why did you split from your other self?" And if it's because those two were always destined to sacrifice themselves to destroy Z, with N and M filling that role in the end so our Noah and Mio wouldn't have to, that's still a pretty flimsy and incomplete explanation. And if this was discovered in the past (if it were to be explained in a prequel), wouldn't Z have taken steps to prevent this, let alone be shocked and worried when he saw the new Noah and Mio at the time of the main game?
    2: The black fog. We've now had the importance of this existential threat stressed to us for a game and a half, and we still don't know what the spark it actually is, other than that it either turns random animals into monsters or blows up parts of worlds. Unlike Mobius, it wasn't dealt with by the end of XC3 (and it's not like Chapter 7 forgot about it either, with all that fog in Origin). And just like Noah and Mio's reincarnation, it was shown to be something that even Mobius, let alone everyone else in Aionios, didn't understand at the time of the main game, so it can neither be solved nor explained in a prequel. Even Melia, of all people, didn't provide an explanation. "It's an effect of the two worlds merging, which is why they shouldn't merge!" also doesn't work as an explanation, since we saw in Future Connected that it was a danger in Shulk's world long before the inciting event of XC3.
    I know not everything has to be explained, but these two things certainly do, and they only can be in something taking place chronologically after XC3's story. And if it isn't obvious, I do think that whatever or whoever is behind the black fog will be the villain of the DLC, if it's an epilogue.

    • @anonymoushuman8443
      @anonymoushuman8443 Рік тому

      Those two questions can be answered in a prequel. A prequel is wide open and Monolith Soft can still make up things and explain it away. An epilogue has a very rigid structure where Melia and Nia still don’t know anything about Aionios or the Black Fog and where the main party is reunited, but what else is there for them to do?

I'd even like to see Mio's interactions with her siblings, the Aegis kids, and find out what they're like.
    There's honestly a lot of potential things they could do with an epilogue of all characters meeting, alongside the cast of the previous games. Give me a 10 minute cutscene of just Noah chatting with Rex and the gang, and learning about Alrest. I'd be super satisfied with that.
    But yes, all this to say that I definitely hope the final DLC concludes with the XC3 group reuniting in some way. Don't care about how, just that they do. Especially Noah and Mio, for their sake... and for the potential interactions with other characters.

    So it feels natural that what we would get is a story where you play each party separately in their own universe trying to find a bridge between then.
    So you would have a party of Shulk, Noah, Eunie and Lanz working from their side, and a party of Rex, Mio, Sena and Taion working from the Alrest side. With some remnant of Moebius still somehow existing.
    With a final battle where the parties are re-united. Not sure how they'd adapt the battle system for this, but it's just my thoughts. To me it would be purposeful fan service. A. My theory about nopon in Aionios is that they are just as ageless as Melia and Nia. The queens do not age throughout the millennium of Aionios's existence. Melia and Nia originate from outside of Aionios and apart from the flame clock system, so the nopon were likely swept up into it as well. This explains so much about Riku, who appears to act the exact same in flashbacks of the Keves crew as kids.
    Furthermore, we know from the late game quest bringing together the nopon that use hammers that they are certainly the ones who made every instance of Lucky Seven. You kinda have to be ageless to give it to that many instances of Noah.

      Melia and Nia are noted to have long lifespans (helped by being dormant for most of Aionios history), not to be ageless. And while the Legendary Nopon don't, most nopon in the game have official ages and plainly are not ageless. My theory is that Nopon simply don't reproduce the same way as humans (we've seen Nopon children but to my knowledge have never seen a Nopon baby). As for Riku, keep in mind those flashbacks were only like seven or eight years in the past, if he was already an adult then of course he wouldn't act much different.

    Like maybe Mio would talk to Rex about how she keeps remembering Noah like it was a dream, but talking about it triggers something in him, and he suddenly suffers a flashback to a scene of Z killing him, Pyra and Mythra. Melia and Nia contact each other about it, and Shulk and Tora theorize that Origin picked up new data from Aionios, and some of it has bled through into their post-convergence bodies. And that could lead to two parties, one from each world, going into Origin to try and figure it out, which would kick-start the actual main plot.

    I think if a founders prequel includes Shulk and Rex it would likely touch on origins of the world/the merging even if it's only more subtle puzzle pieces like the core crystals in origin. At least in my mind pre-Aionios explanations about the world/origin can come in either a prequel or epilogue so they can still sew hints at the future as, the only drawback with the prequel is no reunions.

    I feel like an epilogue would fit best. As Xenoblade 3's base game was the end of the Klaus saga, the DLC would push the series forward past it somewhat. All it really needs to do is show us what future games will be, which is hard with a prologue since it wouldn't be able to show us that since it would be stuck in the same saga. I know it's cliché, but I feel a happily-ever-after ending is what will likely come, where the main cast of 3 can live together without fighting like they wanted. Least in the end after they sort out what the DLC has to offer. I would like to think that the DLC ends with all three swords like in the artwork, left to rest kind of thing. Just to symbolically say that these stories are over. Unlikely but just would be a nice image to leave the game on imo

    I kinda like the idea of the DLC framing itself as being a prequel story and then actually turning out to be an epilogue is kinda fun to me.
    one of the main issues with an epilogue story to me would be that the marketing would very possibly revolve around huge spoilers for a game some people won't have finished by next year?

    The one thing I want most from the DLC is a specific Hero. Someone we've seen already, and one who people might not want over certain other characters, or even new ones.
    The DLC Hero I want the most, out of ANY character, even over a new character, is Poppi.
    We've seen that Poppi is (thankfully) still around, and she was my favorite character from 2. I honestly don't really have a reason for her specifically getting added other than I just really really like her. I know most people would want Rex or Shulk, but I want Poppi. I have no idea if you'll see this so if I can think of more ideas I'll just amend this and post it to your next but I think it has to be an epilogue of a new beginning. All we've ever seen Noah as is a soldier with a badass sword from the get-go. Shulk started out as a scavenger with a Junk Sword and Rex started out as a salvager with a Broadsword (but I think call Junk Sword in some of the files). We need to see Noah with a "junk sword" at the end to really hit home that there's something worth protecting but nothing worth warring over.
    It could be taking notes from Maslow's expansion on his Hierarchy of Needs. The first is Cognitive Needs, which relates directly to Shulk. The second is Aesthetic Needs which I could relate to Rex pretty easily with him wanted better gear. The third is Transcendence Needs, which is a lot broader, but can easily be represented by connecting humanity.
    And not very related but I have a feeling that since everyone ages the same now that was some sort of balancing the convergence had to do. I think if Nia and Melia hadn't been in stasis they would have maybe started aging too. Maybe Blades just work like weird humans now since there's not reason to process information from their bonded humans since there's no Conduit anymore.

    As for Consul A, we already got a being that has jumped worlds before that basically is canonized to do so: Alvis/Ontos. I would hope one of the remaining trinity processors/Aegis would be able to live through to the point where Origin takes place, and finally having an evil version of Alvis that was corrupted by Z, who theoretically would live through the ending of Moebius because he existed before their creation, would make a fun villain for both sides to face, together or separate.

    I'm not saying we should have expected XC3 to be nothing but fanservice, but it WAS advertised as "a brand new story that ties together the futures of the worlds depicted in Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2". That being the case, I don't think it was unreasonable to expect we'd get some kind of epilogue to the stories of the characters and worlds of XC1 and XC2 in 3. The base game, while excellent, scarcely told us anything about what happened to them except they communicated, built origin, and then were reborn. (And that Rex achieved gigachad status, I guess.)
    So yeah, I say bring on an epilogue. Cram as much "fanservice" in as possible if it means a satisfying conclusion to the Klaus arc. I don't care if it's thematically consistent or not, I like happy endings and tying up loose ends. XC3 was just so light on details, come on Monolith just one line explaining why Nia is queen! One line explaining where the Nopon come from! One line about how off-seeing and the motes of light work!

    In the nintendo Vol interviews leading up to release, takahashi mentioned how xc3 is a 'thematic' end to the numbered games. And with the ending of 3, I would agree. Cuz of this, I think the DLC will be an actual physical end to the trilogy which is why they held back on fanservice in the base game. But doing an epilogue doesn't mean there can't be past stuff. As mentioned it could be playable flashbacks tho I was more thinking just flashbacks or lore dumps.
    I also agree I want this dlc to be the finale to the perfect works stories not just cuz it fits but so we can move on to new things.

    Pipe dream prediction:
    DLC is some kind of epilogue like you suggest. And then for our flashback, we go on a small tangent first.
    I forget if it was the director or producer at the time, but basically one of the leads in charge of both Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors stated when asked if he could make any other Nintendo franchise into a Warriors game, he said Xenoblade.
    Now how could you make this perfect fanservicey story with separate development time with maybe a slightly altered Canon just like Age of Calamity and Three Hopes did so you can both reflect the time period while not taking the continuity 100% serious? Give it to Omega Force. You already have two factions with armies and commanders in play, Keves and Agnus, a perfect format for all characters to be equally playable and fun with some possessing some unique mechanics (Ouroboros), and you can recreate the world with pre annihilation segments incorporated into their designs.
    Massive speculation with only the thinnest of threads, but I wouldn't call it impossible. I love Warriors games, and I love XB, so trying to will this into existence is like selling blood to a vampire. XD

Once they became Mobius I thought they were permanently removed from the cycle so M & N should have been the last incarnations. My idea behind why it would be an epilogue is because of why Melia and Nia develop Origin. The idea of recreating the worlds prior to the collision is inherently fearing the unknown. What told the two of them the worlds would annihilate each other by colliding? I feel the ending of the game doesn’t conclude the theme of the game as reactivating origin does allow the future to progress, but it doesn’t allow it to progress into a true unknown as Nia and Melia couldn’t have been 100% certain the two worlds colliding would’ve ended in their destruction. Thus, the theme of the game hasn’t been fully realized and the initial reason behind Origin’s construction was an inherently Moebius concept of remaining in the now instead of marching into the future

    • @hankhill7827
      @hankhill7827 Рік тому +1

      It would've ended with their destruction, the idea being it's like two opposite matters coming together which causes an annihilation of both. The "annihilation events" are a symptom of it and are what happen when you interlink for too long.
