I’m so happy that you’re talking about the characters. Despite all the prise this game got not a lot of gamers or videos on yt don’t go in on them and I’m glad you’re filling that void. And I can’t wait for you to continue the analysis if you want to. I hope the algorithm picks this up.
Spoilers below. Heismay was so great. I only followed a little marketing so I knew we got a less antro design lil guy party member but I had assumed they would be the kinda cutesy almost mascot type character. The way Heismay was revealed with that gravely French voice threw me for a loop in such a pleasant way. Then he has some of the heaviest trauma amongst the party with this painfully real reaction to said trauma. The way he related to the antagonist of that arc was outstanding. What I like the most about him is that he is also flawed, the racist remarks he made surprised me but it made sense given his trauma. I think it's good writing frankly because it showcases that while he set out to try and break through the systems of hate and tribal status quo he was ultimately not able to overcome it and escape it effecting him. His grief and loss broke that part of him and he hasn't recovered. Most games that tackle the topics of discrimination put the party on this pedestal as the voice of reason and do not let any cracks or smudges show, not so with Metaphor. It really is only a few comments but it's has weight and flushes out a lot of the characters in doing so.
Spoilers by the way: Funny thing is, I plan on making a Tumblr post about the morality of the characters and how they handle in injustice. Specifically with Joanna and Zorba. It’s not going to be an attack on the characters, but more of an “addressing the complaints” the audience has with how they handle their actions. I think it will be a good way to show why I love these characters at all, how the story handles discrimination, etc. More importantly: My favorite characters are Heismay and Basilio with party members. Eupha is also a personal favorite (for reasons). And the Followers being Alonzo, Brigitta.
@@airam.694 it’s when Magla becomes Melancholicia, it becomes an energy source like the Crystals you destroy. The game explicitly states that anyone that comes near that energy can be driven to madness.

I'd love to read that tumblr post. I was just thinking about that character and what magla had to do with it all....
