    I ended up buying a BM-8000 and absolutely love it for my home studio. It holds its own so well with my more expensive medium and large diaphragm condenser mics that I'm going to order another one. Absolutely well worth having a bunch of these mics for remote recording of live gigs where you don't want to risk your expensive mics. What will be more telling is whether two mics of the same model sounds the same. But overall they're low noise, seem well built, and overall, fairly pleasant sounding.

    • @raymota4515
      @raymota4515 Рік тому

      When I find a "budget" mic that I like I usually buy two. Sometimes 4. When miking a full rock band I like to have several on standby. ALSO - the color of the mic seems to influence the "emotional aura" of the performer. I know it may sound like er um hmmm - BUT . . . The trad silver gray champagne is good for car v/o adverts. Raw rock works black. Blues for a spirit. Red is angry punk spew. THE MXL V 6 X series is known for green body with gold trim, a la the primo C 12. Have you done a shoot out with fine tuning the axis of your delivery? Straight into the diaphram is susceptible to the plosives. Pulling the plosives and working the mic off axis and distance takes practice, but worth it. I've found about 23 degrees off axis and pulling back from 6 “ to 12” helps control the pops. Thus, I don't use a popper stopper personally.

    • @wigon
      @wigon Рік тому

      @@raymota4515 I didn't mention having problems with "plosives". I've been recording bands and songwriters for 3 decades aside from my own music. Whether I use a mic off-axis on a singer depends on their voice and the music. There's nothing wrong with using a quality popper-stopper, especially when a singer benefits from the proximity effect for a more intimate close-in sound. The song and singer dictate both mic choice and mic position. I've had a few singers that sound best with a simple SM-57 or SM-58 dynamic mic. As for the physical color of the mic and how it influences the mood of a band or performer.....eh..... I think that's very subjective.
      I just buy whatever color I personally think the mic looks better in. But more important to me is the sound of the mic. It could be turd brown in color, but as long as it sounds good, it is good.
      Getting a good performance out of a musician is not the job of a mic's physical color, but rather the job of the producer who is there to push the artist/s to get maximum emotion and performance. Many times of course, the audio engineer becomes the producer by necessity. But I always tell bands to hire a reputable producer with a really good ear for their style of music unless someone in their band has a crystal clear vision of what they want to sound like (within the limitations of their actual abilities as musicians).

    For all of you out there who are having a hard time noticing the differences between the tree microphones, listen to what I have to say.
    To start, the BM-700 has an amazing sound quality. The low mid/high mid range capability is great, and the higher frequencies are clear too. After listening closely, there is no high peak distortion!
    Second, the BM-800 has very clear sound quality. The low/high mids carry out nicely. One thing to note, there is a small amount of high peak distortion with this microphone, but nothing serious unless you were to really crank the power up on your preamp :).
    Third, the BM-8000. Now, with this microphone, as soon as I listened to it, I noticed that the overall power output was lower than the rest. The Mid ranges seem to have a small amount of distortion, and the same with the higher frequencies. The sound is in fact crisp just like the rest, but you definitely would want to mix your audio if this is the microphone for you.
    TIP: Use a pop filter for any standard/condenser microphone to prevent the popping sound that occurs when you speak. You don't want that in your audio!
    To wrap it up,
    My recommendation: BM-700.
    Have a nice day :)
    -Sand

    • @Podcastage
      @Podcastage  7 років тому +140

      No you cannot. 99% of mother board audio inputs do not provide sufficient voltage to power the microphone. Even if you add phantom power, the motherboard will provide crappy audio. You need a USB Audio Interface, or USB Soundcard w/ Phantom Power Supply. Watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/-eGMehDpKJA/v-deo.html

    • @thomasneidenmark1042
      @thomasneidenmark1042 7 років тому +9

      While you can physically plug it in directly to a soundcard without phantom power, it won't sound any good. You'll probably experience lots of static and lower overall volume. It is not recommended to use it without phantom power.

My podcast is guest-heavy and I have been looking for good options to mic them up more effectively. These Neewers don't seem like bad choices! Dynamics are a bit too directional and finicky for people unfamiliar with speaking in to mics, so it's nice to know these affordable options are out there. The difference comes from the capsule physical shapes, the BM-700 and BM-800(golden ring) use the same internals, but the BM-700 picks more sound due the capsule shape, the BM-8000 has a different internal circuit that is identical to the BM-800(no golden ring) and like 95% identical to the BM-700 and BM-800(golden ring), the change is in the values of the resistors, but the component connections are the same in all 4 mics and all use the same diaphragm, so again the minimal difference between the sound this microphones produce is due the physical shape of the capsules, there is also a fifth microphone that use the "same" internals, that's the BM-660 that is physical bigger and heavier than all other models(kind of looks like the BM-8000 but with a square capsule instead of a sphere capsure), and thats the reason no reseller offers it, because is more expensive to ship due the extra weight of the shock mount and microphone, but feels way more premium than all other models.

    Do you think having 2 of the BM-700 mics (recording 2 people) in close proximity (3ft) will work with their polar patterns? If so what can I do and if not what do you recommend?

    • @TyFilmsTy
      @TyFilmsTy 8 років тому +1

      He's not hitting them. Some glasses are weirdly adjusted and you can never quite find the right spot as each nose and pair is different., so they can constantly slide down for some people. He's sliding them back up.

    • @gamerbooty6808
      @gamerbooty6808 8 років тому +1

      TyFilms i ment like moving them up lol

    • @Podcastage
      @Podcastage  8 років тому +1

      Haha. Yeah. Two things factor into this. I turn off my AC when I'm filming to keep the background noise low, so I my noise starts to sweat where the glasses make contact and they slide because of that. AND, I have a big ass nose so I have to adjust the glasses in a weird way so they're not too tight on my noise...otherwise there would be these HUGE red marks there.

    Which do you recommend for a cabinet with Celestion V30 speakers?
    I took a BM-800 but given the relatively low cost, I'd like to know which you prefer for an electric guitar.

    .Can you do bm800 vs audio technica at2020?
    although they do not share the same price range,
    a comparison can give us the difference in sound quality and in price performance compariosn
