Your rifle looks like it's really coming together! Was it tough to swap the barrel? Just my .2 cents, I don't think this gun needs to be a minute/subminute gun. If it can hit somewhere on a 40" target at 100, 200, 300 yards, it has more than enough "practical accuracy." I think people put too much stock into getting subminute groups with every gun they got. I don't think this is the ideal choice for a bench shooter. For precision shooting, there's always guns like the Tikka CTR. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, buddy.
Happy holidays!! You’re so right. It really doesn’t need to be super accurate. It a competition design. When I was filming this, right after I go it re-zeroed at 50 I wanted to double check the 50-200 mark. I had a little yellow 3” plate out at 200 that I was playing around with my little t1x. I put the crosshairs of the raven on that little plate and just smoked it pulled the target and stand right out of the ground and sent it tumbling lol. I really wish I would’ve got it on camera. It was pretty sweet.
@@evivrusXerudne pretty much yeah. You can stretch it to about 240 if you place your target up the hill a bit. The range here in terrace BC backs onto copper mountain
The Raven look great in that length! I like the black handguard on sniper grey, too. Nice preview of mine will look like. I'm leaning closer and closer to going with a shorter barrel. Happy New Year!
Happy new year!! It’s actually the northern lights. The length really does suit it pretty good. It just feels good handling it. I was really reluctant because I liked the nr status. But realistically it’s a 223 and I don’t think I’ll ever hunt with that calibre so may as well get it registered as a range toy lol
@@wildnorthadventures Oh sorry, Northern Lights. I know I'll like the length and definitely the weight savings. My big concern is that it won't function as well as it does now. I'm worried I'll have to change and adjust everything else.
@@JohnnySyn you won’t have to change a thing. I’ve used the original gas block with it and buffer and it just works. No adjustment needed. I did have to pick up a new gas tube tho. This aftermarket barrel has a carbine length gas system. But it just slid in no problem.
@@wildnorthadventures I think your groups are pretty good. You hit the nail on the head, I think you were right about barrel manufacturers. Mine are on par with yours. I bought another used Raven before Christmas. Yesterday was the first time out, it did pretty good. I have over 8000 rounds on my first Raven now. It's turned out to be an excellent rifle and super trustworthy.
@@HemiOrange 8000 rounds??!!! That is awesome and encouraging!! So I was just looking at the ballistic advantage website and they guarantee sub moa 3 shot groups with match ammo. I took a second look at my group pics and sure enough 3 shots were pretty close a 2 went wild. Very strange. Think it deserves a little more investigation lol You got another raven?? That’s awesome. So you got a second one… sold it… got another one lol think you might need to talk to someone lol Just kidding. It’s such a great platform being so modular. It’s great being able to envision something and then build it out. We have the raven and the 10/22 that we’re able to do this and that’s about it. I’ve got the browning bar in 308 and would love to switch it up a bit. Really looking forward to the new upper from Lockhart. Supposed to come with a newly designed bcg
@@wildnorthadventures I'm waiting to see what the new upper will be like. I had the new one in the cart and decided to wait. I'm not a fan of the dust cover flipping up on the new receiver. It would in my opinion make it difficult to press check or free a stuck round. I ordered a left side block off plate and the new dust cover right before Christmas. I think I'll put it on my first rifle. Yeah, I've had 3 Ravens now. 2 FDE and the 2nd was black. I have the BCM SS410 SAM-R barrel in my first rifle. It's definitely my favorite. I just put new gas rings in. I think I could have made them last longer if I oiled more frequent. I've only cleaned it a handful of times, I go out almost every weekend. I do give it oil before every session.
@@HemiOrange I didn’t even realize that the door flipped up??!! I better have a way to stay open or I’ll end up pulling it off for the reasons you mentioned. The one I have now was originally ordered with the cover door brass defect and I’m still waiting on the dust door. Kinda redickulas how long it’s taking.
Did you have to check the headspace on other brand barrels to the Raven 556 BCG bolt before buying those barrels? Or does the Raven accept any 223/556/Wylde barrel?
Yup it’ll take any ar platform barrel. 223/556, 22lr or 7.62x39. I just had to use a bit of sand paper to take some of the finish off where it slides in. (Took like 20secs. Just a little rub) Never had to check headspace I trusted that it really was based on the ar platform and that any ar barrel would work. And sure enough it did.
John I think if you spent more time developing loads for yiur rifle your results would be different. Bullet weight, design, type of powder and amount of powder all play a part in your quest for accuracy. You are just nibbling around the edges.
