Building a 6 arc. Just waitng for my gen 3 upper to ship. Did you use a standard ar15 firing pin? I want to have two BCG so its a seamless swap. Thanks in advance
@@jessejaymes8062 yeah I just used the one from the gen 2 upper. Works great. I just wish Lockhart would get the gen 3 bcg done. It’s such a pain having to swap when I wanna shoot 556. Congrats man you’re gonna love 6 arc. I was just working on a 58 grain vmax bullet that’s a frickin FAST. What barrel did you go with? What bolt face? What scope? I’m super curious
I cannot wait for the gen 3 bolt. Still waiting on my upper as well. The bolt i am using is faxon 6.5 Grendel. The barrel is an IBI barrel. Scope I am gonna run is the Burris XTR3 3-18. Really good excited. Been watching a lot of your videos. Thank you.
@@wildnorthadventures
@@jessejaymes8062 oh wow! Ibi barrel?? That’s frickin awesome. I’m impressed. That thing must hammer. I have an ibi barrel on my tikka and it’s a laser beam. They make incredible barrels. Just takes a long time. Thanks for watching 👍🏽 and really good choice on the scope. And faxon stuff is really high quality as well. You obviously know what your doing
Did you have any issues with the buffer tube using the gen 3 bolt or did the normal tube work just fine?
@@hknova683 we still haven’t received the gen 3 bolt just the upper. I’m having to use the gen 2 bolt. From what I understand the bots are identical except the gen 3 has scallopes down the one side to use with the forward assist. So I can’t really answer your question till I receive it. But the tube works fine with the upper and I suspect there won’t be any issues with the new bolt. The only thing I’ve noticed is the cerakote is a little think and it had made charging the rifle a little stiff but that been quickly resolved with use. And some lube. Runs beautifully now
@ so you know if the gen 3 bolt is compatible with the gen upper?
@ I’m 99.9% sure they’re cross compatible.
That’s sweet man is that the only place to order a 6 arc barrel in Canada
@@ffvg9909 sorry for the late response. But yeah aztek is the quickest. I’ve ordered a proof from Calgary shooting Center in march (22 arc) and I’m still waiting. Only 2 places I know of
@ thanks man
I never checked head space. Just went off of info from Hornady and other builders. ( that to switch you just need the barrel, bolt face (6.5 Grendel type 2) and the magazine) Only checks I did were to take a dummy round and see that it chambered. Are you thinking of making the switch?
No, not a switch but just finished putting one together from a builders kit in 5.56
@ 👍🏽 these things are so fun
@@kavehmoallemi5414I hope you don’t mind me asking but I’m super curious. What parts did you go with?
Mostly BCM (bolt, cam pin, gas tube, gas key, gas block, lower parts kit, buffer, buffer tube and hand guard), Shield Rifleworks barrel (18.6"), Magpul stock and ergo grip
Where did you source the barrel from for the conversion?
@@tacomeat9768 aztech Armory
Do you do headspace checks on your builds? Wandering if it's generally needed for new components from reputable manufactures (I'm a newbie to this).
@@kavehmoallemi5414 from what I understand all components are built to “mill spec” this almost always insures parts compatibility. Most of us don’t have the equipment to measure head space. Usually done by a gun smith. The only time I would have head space checked is if I was having an issue. Or if I was building something to be super precise
@@kavehmoallemi5414 sorry for rambling but no it’s generally not needed for this platform

Hey buddy how’s that 22 arc going in thinking of trying the same thing maybe 6arc
@@ffvg9909 I’m still waiting on the barrel. I ordered a proof research one from Calgary shooting center back in march. It’s taking so bloody long that I just ordered the 20” ballistic advantage one in 6 arc. Should be in Canada on October 7. Csc said they get their orders in from proof once a month. I’m tempted to cancel because it’s taking so long but at the same time proof makes some of the best barrels so I really want it. I own bolt guns in both calibres and have had amazing results with load development. Especially the 6 arc. .4 at 200yrds so like .2 moa. It’s kinda shocking.
@@wildnorthadventures that’s awesome good to hear thanks bud
Hey man did you ever get that 6.5 Grendel going yet or 6 arc
@@ffvg9909a 6 arc barrel I ordered should be in Canada on October 7th. I also ordered a proof research in 22arc back in march and who knows when it’ll be here. (Why I ordered the 6) plus it should be pretty awesome for 🦌
Have you encountered a failure to return to battery, since the change to the gen 3 upper
@@CautiousKlinger quite a few with some of my lighter ammo. I just changed back to the factory buffer to see if that helps. I was running the armalite silent capture system. If you’re not sure what I’m talking about they sell them at red deer shooting Center. You can see an image on their website. I have a load I make with a 75 grain boat tail hollow point and I use vihtavourie powder ( pretty spicy load) and it runs perfect. Even with the scs buffer. It’s kinda frustrating cause it ran great in the gen 2 upper. Maybe we just need to wear down some of the cerakote?
@wildnorthadventures I only changed out the upper and it went from flawless operation to a disaster. I will be trying out 2 different ammo types 62gr, 77gr of different manufacturers to see if it makes a difference. I noticed that you also had to hammer the takedown pins in. The holes in the gen 3 upper are not perfectly aligned, I wonder if that is creating a bit more friction in relation to the clearance with the mags? What are your thoughts.
@@CautiousKlinger I honestly think it’s a cerakote issue. I think it’s a bit thick. It will eventually wear down and it’ll be flawless again. I just have a hard time believing it could be machining. These are built on the cnc machine with a computer program so the tolerances should be perfect. I’m not sure if you have a cronagraph but finding a round that flys fast should cycle. Also some 1000 grit black sandpaper (emery cloth) would also help move things along a bit quicker. My thoughts are to sand down the cerakote where the bcg cycles (inside the action) and also on the parts where the pins go.
@wildnorthadventures Just came back from the range, and it was a step in the right direction. Ran 50 rounds of 86gr otm Barnes precision and not a single hiccup. Ran 100 rounds of pmc 55gr fmj- bt encountered 2 failure to return to battery and 5 light primer strikes , not too bad. Lastly Ran 200 rounds 55gr mag tech fmj had 4 failure to return to battery and 8 light primer strikes. So, it's not too bad considering I couldn't successfully cycle more than 2 rounds without a failure to return to battery, so Im hoping it will get better with next week's range trip . 🤞
@@CautiousKlingerdid it get better with some use on the cerakote or are you still having issues with light strike and return to battery?
Thanks
It looks like a great gun for ipsc, speed steel or 3gun What do you shoot: 115, 124, 147? How is the reliability pre vs post tuning?
@@bravo2zeroCAN I’m using this for Ipsc I shoot 100’s with 5.4 of Cfe pistol. Super reliable post tuning. Did have a few bugs to work out getting there. But it was all in the powder charge. I’ve learned a lot this past year. The main thing is when you’re tuning to stick to one variable at a time lol.
Forward assist ?!?! When did this happen?
@@danielbarrett8798 pre order was October 2023 but just received it a day before posting this. (Was supposed to be delivered before Christmas 2023) Apparently limited to the first 100 orders but looks like he has them listed on the website
Great video for a noob like myself! What brand muzzle break is that? In your opinion, is it worth upgrading to from VG6 flash hider on the 5.56?
The brake in this video is the Lockhart one that you could get as an option when ordering the rifle. It worked great on the original bcg. The new one that was issued for warranty was a little heavier and threw the balance off at the muzzle. The flash hider is great! So it depends on the type of shooting you’re doing and how it’s working for you. And on the optic you use. If you’re just shooting at bigger targets at an average pace stick with it. But if you’re trying to go fast I’d upgrade. There are a lot of options that will keep the rifle really flat ( so your reticle/dot doesn’t bounce so much) True north arms has a 2 port one with 2 holes on the top for around 65 that I find works the best.
Very nice.
Thank you
@@ffvg9909 you bet
Looks amazing
Raven really needs to get their shit together with their website. This thing isn't findable without using Google to find the page it's on.
Hi man! I love the videos, but im quite concerned avout the barrel nut not being torqued. If this is just a preliminary assembly, i'd just want to know that, in case someone is using this as a build guide.
@@gfin4576 you are correct it’s just purely a visual aid. It’s been torqued off camera and ready to take to the range I’ll put a note in the description

Yeah they’re pretty hard to come by. Mind you I’ve worked up some 88gr with cfe 223 that’s pretty awesome. It took quite a while. Went through probably 8 different powders. And if you ever try to load the 22arc use 6.5 Grendel brass. The case neck on the factory stuff is pretty thin and there is no crimp die yet to tighten it up.

@@ffvg9909 I’m not sure what for?? But thanks for watching!
I’ve been eyeing up a raven …for a long time ….but here in Canada we have stupid laws ….i wish it was a bit more accurate of a rifle…but I really like that top charge …I’m still on the fence about it ….any advice for me ….
@@davidemontini8298 my advice… if you want it, get it. They’ve got all the bugs worked out and it’s super reliable. This has got to be the best platform we have for options. Shoot it for a while and when you get bored. You can switch calibres Any other questions don’t hesitate to ask Oh and if you hand load you can get sub moa accuracy with the factory barrel
Which spring did you use with the AR 15 silent captured spring system? I see it is offered with 5 alternative weight springs.
At the time I made this vid I was actually using the one for the 9mm. I had taken the tungsten weight out and was using the stainless. It only came with the one spring. I ordered it for the 9 before I received it and didn’t realize it wouldn’t work with it. I just threw it in the 556 out of curiosity. Since then I’m using the armalite 3.3oz. Scs. I built a “go fast” lower with a hyperfire trigger. Magpul extended mag release etc. ( I should probably just make a vid) But for the kit you’re asking about I’d start with the yellow spring. I hear guys are having the best luck with that.
Black spring seems to work great with the 556 and 300 blk uppers
I bought the same bullets and they were a fair price, just the shipping adds up! Are you running the factory barrel! I have ordered the raven 5.56 it has been about 10 weeks or so. Considering the customized one from RDSC store. It has new barrel, grip stock hand guard from BCM. Thanks!
I’ve pretty much retired the factory barrel. I was one of the lucky ones and got a decent one. And am It really depends what you’re doing with it. Currently I’m running the 14.5 ballistic advantage. Just balances way better. Plus it’s basically just a range toy I got it registered. The factory one is a little thin so after repeat fire accuracy goes to crap. So if your after accuracy go with the RDSC one. Just keep in mind it’s probably going to be front heavy. With the other upper I have coming I’m switching calibres and ordered the proof research barrel in 22arc. I have a bolt gun in the same calibre and with the 88 eldm’s the ballistics are pretty incredible. Sorry I’m rambling. For reasonable shipping check nechako outdoors (16$ flat rate) or bulls eye north. They have a low flat rate and free after 250 I think
@@wildnorthadventures Don't want one that I can't take to the bush and hunt with. Shorter barrel would be Nice though. Are you running the see through 10/10 clips with yours. If only doing target I think they are supposed to be legal? Have a good one.
@@6xcchamber971 yeah there called cross mags 100% legal in Canada. If you check out Canadian operator on UA-cam he gets into the legal stuff a bit more. It’s retarded but because it’s deigned for a pistol we can use them with 10 rounds. And they are legal everywhere. You can use them in the bush too. Have you made a decision on a barrel?
Did you need anything special to swap out the fore end?
Nope any standard hand guard will work
Nice work!!
Love it!

Been following your Raven journey and enjoying your chill style. Keep em coming! Are you using IMR4198 or H4198? Thanks!
Right on 👍🏽 thanks for watching! I was actually in the process of loading up a bunch of rounds with IMR 4198.
Hey there! Been watching your vids for a while now while I wait on getting my own Raven 556 :) Rather unrelated but I was curious about what kind of case you transport/store your rifle in? There's some I'm interested in but I'm concerned with the lengths, I was hovering on a 42" rifle bag but wanted to see what other people with Raven's had to get a better idea
Well I appreciate you watching. Thanks 🙏 I’ve got 2 cases for the raven. The huntshield hard case from Canadian tire. It’s nice. It has the foam that you can pluck out to perfectly fit your rifle. I hardly ever use it cause when all loaded up it’s heavy. And 2 is the Cabelas soft case. 42” I like the pockets. I use the 2 for mags and the Center for a notebook and a bipod. 99% of the time that’s the one I grab.
@@wildnorthadventures I appreciate the reply, thank you! Sounds like you have no space concerns with those cases you've mentioned. I took a look at the Cabela's Tactical Gun Case bag on their site and looks nearly identical to the product I was considering. I imagine most people wouldn't have issues fitting a stock 18.6" barrel length raven into a 42" case then eh?
@@Yamataru fits just fine in the 42” bag
That is not a carbine. It is a full length rifle. The Marlin is a carbine

That build legal in canada?
No it’s not legal. I’m such a bad ass that I made a public video of my illegal fire arm lol. Just kidding. It’s 100% legal just had to register it and get the restricted registration. Guys have been swapping barrels on their firearms for decades so it’s a pretty straightforward process
@@wildnorthadventures like can I still do that now after that billc21 becoming a law already?
@@jhulianpangalangan9324 absolutely you can. As long as you have your rpal. Just grab a barrel do the swap. Make sure it works ( you have 30 days to register after the swap) than go on the Canadian firearm program website and look for the register a firearm form. Print that off then give them a call. They’ll walk you through the rest. Usually a bunch of emails with pics attached. PS although this is how it worked for me be sure to call the firearms centre (they’re super nice) and ask questions. They’re there to help us. And don’t want us getting in trouble because of little mistakes. I’m just some guy making videos and they’re the finally authority on the regulations. Hope this helps a bit.
@@wildnorthadventures Good to know. I do have my RPAL .. and will definitely do same on my raven. but would there be a .300 black out short barrel ? can you provide me a link where I can find those? Thanks much
Check out RDSC (red dear shooting centre) or csc (Calgary shooting centre. Both places have really good websites. And don’t be afraid to send an email if you don’t see what you’re after. They can order stuff in. (I ordered a proof research 22arc barrel from csc) Or if you wanna go custom Canadian check out international barrels or JC barrels. Lots of options out there. Would you post some of your Load data, Varget..... Every gun will like a little different for sure but any help would be appreciated. I am seriously considering one of these in the future. Would you buy another one or something else??? Thanks!
Yeah for sure. 25.5 vargit 60 gn Hornady bullet. I would definitely buy this again. And I actually have another upper with Bcg ordered. There super reliable now and I love the modularity. Once I get the new upper it’ll be running as a 22 arc. It’s sweet that you can change calibres with this rifle. They’re a little pricey for what they are but there the best we have in Canada right now
@@wildnorthadventures Thank you!
Thank you for these videos, as they’ve been really informative - I’ve just purchased one, yet to receive it, so my question(s) to you are; can I swap out the BCG if I wish? Can I get different charging handles? Again - Thanks for taking the time doing these videos. Respect for Nova Scotia
Unfortunately both the bcg and charge handle are proprietary. (How they avoided the ban) if you join the raven owners group on FB looks like some guys have been able to use another charge handle with little mods. Also Lockhart is working on a gen 2 handle. As far as the bcg it works great and you can swap the bolt if you want either as an upgrade or running different calibres. Glad I could help with the vids. I’m in the process of converting mine to a 22arc. Just waiting on the proof barrel. 😎
May I ask you where did you buy this rifle? Thank you!

@@wildnorthadventures Thank you for your advice!
It did. Thanks.
Not sure what you did… lol But your welcome 🙏
Is there a way you could show how to take the trigger fully out?
Yes absolutely. I’ll try and post it tomorrow morning. I’m travelling atm
Can you see through the small pin holding the ejector @4:01? It does not look like a pin to me, looks quite fragile
It’s a roll pin. It’s pretty standard it’s used in a variety of applications. For example you have one in your gas block holding your gas tube in. Definitely not something to worry about. It’s not that fragile. But I will say that you can only put them in and out a few times because the end will eventually mushroom and be unable to slide through the hole. Using the proper punch will extend the life a bit but it is a consumable part. The good thing is that when they do wear out you can grab one at any hardware store for about 12 cents. Just bring the old one with you for size. And if you find the right diameter but it’s a bit long you can always cut it to size very simply. ( that’s what I did with the one in my gas block)
Got it! Fortunately its not something we need to clean every time.@@wildnorthadventures Thank you for the info!
@@RamenZhu exactly. Your vey welcome 🙏 thanks for watching
When you changex the barrel length, did it have any effect on the gas system?
No. It just felt lighter and more manoeuvrable. But with a blow back system it had no problems cycling. Kinda crazy it works with the long barrel when you consider the majority of 9mm semiautomatic are handguns.
In your experience do you have a particular magazine length that you recommend for pcc competition? I figure with enough practice I’ll be able to reload relatively quick with the regular glock 17 mags but I’m not sure if having a longer magazine might make it a bit easier.
ua-cam.com/video/dJ15LQ7vqWE/v-deo.htmlsi=-NyQyxlki9yPWUBH This guy is the best pcc shooter in Canada. He recommends the 32 rounders. I’ve taken his advice and have gotten pretty darn quick with them. The longer mag is definitely an advantage. You’re not really searching for them. When you reach down they’re right there. Having your belt set up for you and the right mag pouches is also important. When you set it up just see where your hand naturally reaches and make sure you put your mag right there and at the right angle. I picked up the 32 rounders for 22 each Canadian. So if you need a suggestion let me know. Try buying a couple and see if it works for you.
@@wildnorthadventures I’ll definitely pick up a couple. Thank you!
I am planning on the GRS too (credit to Blowback9). How long is the rifle length buffer tube? In inches or cms. Any idea on the make and model?
I’m not at home to measure but I believe it’s 5.9” it’s the a2 style buffer tube. The one I have is the smoke composites. It has the tail hook built in. Yeah blow back 9 has an awesome channel with some massively helpful info. Even his website is invaluable.
