    The original recording is about 15 cents flat so I corrected it to concert pitch. This is a 1991 Gibson J-160E (acoustic/electric) played through a Vox AD15VT set to AC30TB with min bass, min mid and max treble and the amp is close mic recorded with a Tascam DR01 hand-held digital recorder. Strings are Masterbuilt Phosphor Bronze .012 - .052. My performance, with compression, is mixed with the backing tracks and the whole mix is limited. This is the way the Beatles recorded these early tunes. It is difficult to duplicate the sound with just the guitar and amp. No tabs.
    My videos are really intended for accomplished guitarists who want to polish up their Beatles repertoire and can benefit from "seeing" how a song is played - I am not a guitar teacher and do not provide tabs. I welcome specific questions. If the various chords that I am playing are not familiar to you then I would suggest that you visit some of the many free guitar chord sites. I had to learn these songs by listening to vinyl records and watching live performances on tv.

      The early Beatles. From Revolver onwards was junk. From 1958-1966 they wrote classic love songs and Paul had not had the auto accident yet.

    Sir, I think Ive asked this before but you said that you didnt take the bass note with it. But the minor barre chords youre doing with your thumb, like the hendrix way. Is that a matter of practice? I feel like my hands can't reach it, I either mute the G string or mute the low E string with my ringer which is on the a string but pushing towards the E.
    The things is, I can play barre chords with my thumb without the pinky, so that you leave the a string out of it but only have the d string and low e as bass. But using all my fingers in this method feels too stacked. You got any advice?

    • @BeatlesGuitarSecrets
      @BeatlesGuitarSecrets  Рік тому +3

      The upper guitar is Harrison. I am not plucking the low E string. The heel of my thumb provides a very light pressure for playing the chords. My thumb simply feels comfortable where it is and also mutes the low E string.

    hi there, just to know.... when you play G#m Gm F#m in George's guitar ...are you prssing B and E wih your index finger? I find this way to do G#m Gm F#m more confortable than doing the complete barre
    many thanks!

    • @BeatlesGuitarSecrets
      @BeatlesGuitarSecrets  7 років тому +6

      Thanx for your comment. If you watch my right hand and also note which strings are vibrating you will see that I am only picking the A and D strings. In order to quickly position my fingers, and to prevent erroneous notes from sounding, I am actually playing G#m7 (Abm7) X64444, Gm7 X53333 and F#m7 X42222.

    • @sebalberico
      @sebalberico 7 років тому

      you're right, I meant Lennon (not Harrison), I thing is basically the same notes but adding the pinky finger on D string. thanks so so much for sharing your knowledge. very generous!

    • @BeatlesGuitarSecrets
      @BeatlesGuitarSecrets  7 років тому +3

      Well, that's a different issue. In Lennon's part the low E string is not strummed so there is no reason to use the full barred chord. My thumb serves the dual purpose of muting the low E string and creating the pressure for the rest of the fingers creating the chord. With a properly set up guitar, good finger placement and reasonable hand strength (from practicing) a full barre should be quite easy. If you have very small hands than a 3/4 sized narrow neck guitar would make playing a lot easier.

    Harrison does the descending minors with an added 7th, right? I've always played it this way and it looks like you are too, but every tab I see does not feature it. I'd love to confirm if you can. Thanks

    I'm sorry if this question doesn't fall into the realms of what an accomplished guitarist would ask (I far from being so, though I manage to figure out what you're doing in your videos at least enough to improve my playing a lot), but why do you choose to play the chords in 1:15, for example, with a different fingering for George and John? Can one actually hear the difference? Or is it that you know George used to play barred chords with his index finger, and John did so more often with this thumb?
    Apart from that, now that I've made up my mind to send you a message, I'd like to thank you for your generosity on sharing with us these videos. I'm sure a lot of time and effort has gone into learning to play the Beatles' songs with such accuracy. Though I consider myself a beginner as far as my guitar playing is concerned, I'm quickly improving, since being able to watch what's being played apart from hearing it is a huge help and encourages me enormously to try and try until I find out what you're doing.

    • @BeatlesGuitarSecrets
      @BeatlesGuitarSecrets  7 років тому +3

      Thanx for your comment. I honestly didn't really think about it when I recorded this song. But, if you watch as many videos of the Beatles playing live as I have, you will get a sense of which chord voicings Harrison and Lennon favor. In this particular case the strumming is concentrated on the E, B, G and D strings so it really wouldn't matter which voicings were used. I can't say for certain that it is precisely what Lennon and Harrison played on the studio recording but I am quite certain that they played the chords at the frets indicated in the video. I use the stereo versions of the songs and then apply EQ to bring up the parts I'm interested in hearing. That along with decades of playing experience allow me to determine what is being played. Also, regarding the use of the thumb, it's there not to play the low E string, but for leverage on the other fingers fretting strings. Although not generally taught as proper technique, for those with larger hands or on very narrow necked instruments, this is an easy way to play chords concentrated on the higher strings.

      The video is 1080p! Watch on a large screen device and slow down or pause as required. You can tell what string is being plucked by the vibrations and the fingering is quite clear. If you see a chord you don't know use a reverse chord finder like www.gootar.com/guitar

    • @BeatlesGuitarSecrets
      @BeatlesGuitarSecrets  7 років тому +13

      Thanx for your comment. I've been playing for decades. When I was 12 and using vinyl records it might take me weeks or months. Now that I have digital recordings and digital audio apps along with videos of live performances it might only take a day or two. If you study a particular artist what you learn about their techniques, go to chord voicings, etc will make it easier to figure out what they are doing in other songs. I must admit that I did inherit a good ear from my mother.
