Seb Stafford-Bloor is joined by Dr Chris Nowinski, co-founder and CEO of the Concussion Legacy Foundation. Dr Nowinski is an American football player-turned WWE professional wrestler-turned neuroscientist. He suffered a career ending head injury that led him to turn his focus towards neuroscience. Seb talks to him about his journey, and what football can do to better protect the welfare of players.

Great podcast and was a nice surprise to see Chris Nowinski as a guest. Followed his work from WWE as a talent and his findings of the CTE links in the Chris Benoit tragedy. I recommend a recent two-part documentary called 'Dark side of the Ring' on the Benoit case.

Great work - this has been illuminating. I've had 3 concussion in my life and the sleepwalking and acting out things is something I do. This connected a lot of dots for me - its no diagnosis, but we need to stop pretending concussions aren't a thing.

During the height of his concussion issues he got kicked in the head by Bubba Dudley. That was the nail in the coffin of his career

I was laying on the floor with my fingers resting underneath my head to provide comfort and then for some reason I unconsciously decided to move my fingers from underneath my head and my head hit the floor. Only an inch of impact which would be height of my fingers. I didn’t really think anything of it but it did hurt. Next day I was experiencing nausea and 5 days later nausea came up when playing hockey and I have a sore spot where my head hit the floor. Concussion??
Regardless this business with Luiz was disgraceful, Arsenal and the premier league need to take a good hard look at themselves. Not trying to jump on the bandwagon but can you imagine if luiz had a second major contact that game? Not to mention the other player was instantly hospitalised...

Most, if not all, jobs have physical or mental casualties. In the case of football, don't like the game, then don't play it! The talk of banning headers is an absolute joke. You can also break a leg, should we ban using legs too?
