Cimo Drytron and Voiceless Voice errasure is crazy (I know they weren't the best deck nor got card banned - but oh god Drytron with Eva and Perfectness was ANNOYING)
I mean Drytron was very close to be the best deck, even with VFD in the format. People just sided against it really hard. I remember playing 3 droll, d.d crow and cycle reader just to have a chance against it.
One of my favourite decks has always been Gishki, so cool to see some ritual love. I think a cool idea would be a video focusing on archetypes. Maybe similar to Rarran's videos with the titans or colossal minions where you show a bunch of cards from an archetype and try to figure out what card was potentially banned. Or maybe just show 4-5 cards from an archetype and ask if they were played competitively or not. Had this idea because a lot of my favourite cards will never be seen in these videos. There's no way you're showing Ancient Gear Golem or Dark World Grapha in these showcases. Archetypes are also more or less a Yu-Gi-Oh thing. Other games have them sure, but Yu-Gi-Oh for the most part revolves around them.
The recent support Gishki got last year is actually decent. Usually played in Spright/Runic piles, but the new ritual and level 2 are both very strong legacy support.
Cimo mentioned a new Ritual deck coming out in the OCG, I assume he's talking about Ryu-ge. I should mention, the boss monster being a Ritual monster is basically irrelevant. There's not even an accompanying Ritual spell, it just specials itself out. It's dressing
Should of shown him the food deck just to see his face when they took a meme vanilla monster from some of the earliest sets and gave it a semi competent rogue strategy archetype
WELL, FOR A FACT HE'S NOT THAT IMPORTANT, SIMPLY BECAUSE HE DOESN'T HAVE EFFECTS LIKE POST EFECT VEILER CARDS DID, HE'S JUST A BATTLE HANDTRAP, TOTALLY ON OTHER SIDE, WITH HANDTRAPS THAT REALLY DO (TRAP)
Rarran talking about "learning from previous rituals" and mainly referring to the Gishki when talking Nekroz is so fitting of him seeing the lore connection from effects even if he doesn't know the background of why the Gishki are VERY ok with self sacrifice and Nekroz worked to not build around that...and then that resulting in them going from strong to strongest....and it all started with OG Ice Barrier showing how much you can grow. Rituals never really needing bans to knee cap them being strong, except Djinn who is just unfun, and only needing consistency hits actually shows that them being the worst special summoning method overall mainly comes from not being as easy to break with just one copy like you can do elsewhere (due to how Ritual Spells work), actually makes them seem balanced compared to what Visas lore decks can do. Also as a dedicated Blue Eyes player (from starter Deck Kaiba) the summoning of MAX through Advanced Ritual Art putting a Blue Eyes in GY is sometimes the best part of getting him out (unless its against a deck that requires more effort to stop it which case lmao sucks to only target and destroy) since that makes so many other effects live, but still compared to the ED Blue Eyes that made world win possible its just a extra in the deck if it has a use against other decks. Got nothing on what 2 Jets can do, using them in MD had so many "opponent can't read effects and wasted two monster wipes". No mention of Drytron being a cancerous deck to play against, sure it and Voiceless Voice didn't reach Nekroz levels but still playable to good degree? Certainly can't have Rarran try and rate Drytron that is an actual insane amount of reading to be saved for after being able to read Pends.
Kinda wish you would've showed him the pre errata version of Relinquished. It'd be funny to see his reaction to this long convoluted text box that doesn't properly explain how the effect is supposed to work nor mentions any summoning condition lmao
I thought so too but then he said he read one in 2005/2006 so I think he actually understood, whether by accident or on purpose is another question though.
Gishki was my favourite deck of all time as a casual. I never done the loops with it but I loved Levianima and Soul Ogre. As for Chaos Max, again as a casual I loved facing it in Master Duel with my Amazoness deck, they summon it, you set a monster, they cant resist the double piercing only to find out it is Amazoness Swords Woman.
You oughta let the guest look up these cards when played in the anime. I feel like 70% of the enjoyment of playing Yugioh is playing the cards after seeing them used in the anime.
1:13:39 how could you forget about drytron? Probably the best generic ritual archetype that can fully use the extra deck instead of only relying on the ritual monsters.
THEY AREN'T TAHT IMPACTFUL TO BEGGIN WITH, HE ALSO FORGOT ASUKA'S CYBER ANGELS, BUT I HAVE TO BE HONEST WITH THE FACT THAT THEY ARE EVEN MORE IRRELEVANT THAN DRYTRON, EVEN WHEN IT'S ONE OF MY FAVORITE DECKS
@risingmoonutopiabeyond1458 Drytron was literally the best deck of the format where people were unironically playing Cycle Reader in the side solely for that deck. The only reason it didn't reach tier 0 is people oversided for it at events (and thus people had less outs to say VFD so VW got more tops than it probably deserved).
Back in the day I trolled my locals with a demise and ruin chaos build with the sky scourges and trade-ins for consistency. It was a lot of fun and cleared the board very easily. My favorite ritual deck though was Zealgigas OTK, its soo easy to put 2 out on the same turn and exceed into gustaf max mp2 to finish the opponent off.
Love these videos. Yu-Gi-Oh! is such a information dense game, and seeing all these cards broken up and evaluated makes understanding the meta through history a lot more palatable to someone who's never played it before.
Herald CAN be summoned with ARA. A lot of old ritual monsters say they MUST BE summoned with a specific ritual spell rather than they CAN BE despite not actually having those restrictions. Modern reprints of herald have the "you can" clause. If you want a ritual to have a restriction on how it's summoned you need it to have Alba Zoa's "Cannot be Ritual Summoned, except by..." text.
Ultimate Solitaire? Seriously... in Yugi oh? ... The fact that a yugioh player actually calls something "solitaire" i cannot even imagine how awful it should have been...
Taking a few minutes to set up a field of individual interactions your opponent can potentially play around is not solitaire. Taking potentially 45 minutes looping the same effects over and over again to kill your opponent on the actual first turn is solitaire.
tbf to Cimo drytron was good because of the non-rituals monters + machine angle consistency as an engine. The board was not really made of rituals. They did not even play their in archetype boss monster even though it is a very good card. I think herald did see some plays in some drytron variants but he did show that card in the video. At least now with their newer boss monster they actually do some ritual shit and aren't not just a deck that spam good stuff from the extra deck.
Ritual cards were so sad to me. As a 9 year old, I remember opening more magic ruler packs than lob or metal raiders, combined, finding all these beefy vanilla monsters and seeing the restriction that they needed a spell to bring them out. I thought the idea was so cool. Until I tried to play them and realized it was complete garbage after 2 games with my friends. It was so obviously bad, I even knew when I was 9. Finding a spell without search power AND the specified monster AND fodder takes a miracle and near an entire opening hand’s worth of cards, usually for a beater worse than “tribute for Summoned Skull.”
In this era like 6 or 7 hand traps existed- Veiler, all 3 herald cards, d.d crow, Gorz, honest, kalut, battle fader, kuriboh, and I think that's it for the 5Ds era of YGO
1. A video focused on Ritual Monsters is nice to see. And ,yeah, Rituals are frustratingly *underpowered* on average. Even the good Ritual Archetypes are good because they are relatively generic and can combo into smth else 2. Relinquished was weird because it existed before they introduced troublesolving card text the effect was explained in a way that was so obtuse it actually left out the Ritual Summoning requirement before the errata lol However, Relinquished was a huge deal because it was among, if not THE, first of the alternate summoning mechanic monsters that both had an effect and was somewhat *worth* the effort to summon. Its only I think from the early 2010s onward that Konami really went ham and started pushing Rituals a lot more.
In future, maybe "FTK, OTK, or never played" should be the categories for cards like these, and have guests try to figure out how to break a card. As rarran pointed out, banned/not banned seems kinda hard with these cards
herald of perfection also came out with herald of green and purple light, which were usable in the herald deck as something to discard for perfection or to negate a trap or spell. So they were also hand traps.
Chaos Max Turbo is one of the most fun and stupidly bad decks in Yugioh, because it is so cheap to bring out CMD, with a good opening hand you can have 3 full summons ready to go, which many decks often can't respond to. If you get both Chaos Max and Chaos on the field, you also have a free OTK on board. It's like a 20% chance, but if you pull it off, steamrolling a Meta Deck is so satisfying.
[Suggestion] - Show the Guests Multiple Cards (Combopieces and Red Herings) and they have to figure out the combo, and evaluate if the combo was banned. I find one of the most interesting parts of yugioh are the combos you can play. And teaching non-yugioh players some of those combos or see if they can figure them out would make a very fun upgrade to this format i think.
21:57 Everyone is saying Cimo is forgetting Kuribo which is whatever but the question Rarran is asking is if there are hand trap negates/destroys and the bigger miss to that question relevant Herald of perfection was there were fairy specific hand traps Herald of Orange Light plus green and purple
The problem with rituals is that once you hit the consistency of the cards the cards just fall apart and fail(aka limiting them). I couldn’t see rituals ever being banned in yugioh cause of this.
There's enough ways to hunt down Rituals that playing 1 of is shockingly tolerable There's also enough Alternative Ritual Spells that can summon any Ritual(As a reminder, Ritual Monsters listing their Ritual needed is not a hard restriction, unlike "Must be Fusion Summoned using listed materials" but rather closer to reminder text), you'd have to really gut the available support options for a strong Ritual Deck to completely die
So many questions he asks while contemplating sounds similar to a spelling bee contestant asking for words facts, origins, used in a sentence, and I'm here for it.
The gustkraken hand loop was sustainable at one copy, not exactly good but it did function. The combo became using hieratic dragons as the tribute fodder and overlaying for m7 with wattail or labradorite dragon.
My friends and i as kids would do a fun rule putting our rituals in the fusion deck and just requiring the ritual spell and mats to summon, it was a lot of fun and made game much more interesting
Considering his reaction to Nekroz, I'm hoping beyond all hope that we get a video with Rarran being taught how to play Nekroz like we got with Alex teaching him Edison
Cimooo was really out here talking about lack of hand traps in old YuGiOh, with Herald of Perfection on screen, while literally every other main deck Herald monster released at the time was a hand trap.
I want in a completely unrelated video that is otherwise very heavily themed, to just flashbang rarran or cgb or whoever else, with a shinobird, combining rituals and spirits is just such a funny concept they have to learn about it eventually.
OK I was expecting Drytron, Dogmatika and Voiceless Voice to appear.... I still have nightmares of the first two seasons of Master Duel when I see a Drytron XYZ, Beatrice, EVA and the Heralds...
Why did Mind Augus have that first clause of "Cannot be Normal summoned or Set"??? I feel like the game was old enough to not be printing mechanic rules on the cards. No Ritual monster can be normal summoned or set...
@@rajkanishu They still haven't, ah yes thanks for telling me I can only use one Red Eyes Fusion a turn...after saying I can't summon in any way but set after activation.
The weirdest part is that Mind Augus has two printings in Duel Terminal 5 and Hidden Arsenal 5 and the clause of "Cannot be Normal Summoned or Set" was added in its second print.
"That's a fairy?" Well, to be fair, the "fairy" type is actually the Angel type in the OCG, buy you know... censorship and all that. Manju is a bit of a weird one still, but a LOT of fairy monsters make way more sense when you realize they're supposed to be angels instead.
Imagine the timeline where Ritual Monsters ended up being an Extra Deck monster alongside Fusions? I mean when you think back to early Yugioh, you can kinda see the design logic how Fusions and Rituals as the two Extra Deck monsters could balance each other out: Fusions are summoned with a generic spell card (Polymerization) but need specific monsters as materials, while each Ritual monster needs a specific spell card, but only generic materials that just need to meet the level requirement. Of course I think it's all too easy to imagine just how BUSTED this would make Rituals XD
That Gishki FTK deck is EXACTLY what we just had with Nadu in MTG. Like, theoretically it's infinite but it it's not entirely deterministic and there are ways to play around it so you have to actually play it out.
The perfect end to this video would have been to show ruhrrun a Link monster to have him lose his mind trying to figure it out how to ritual summon the thing 😀
I thought you gonna show drytron after nekroz his brain going to melt but I like you show some archtype in package cause something like snake eye flamberge from outsider might be looking fine.
I was really shocked when Cimo talked about Megalith as an example of a modern ritual deck of all things, because we've had Drytron and Silent Voice since then, but it makes sense when you consider he hasn't really played competitively for a few years. Also they never banned Rituals, but they did hit a lot of the supporting cards that made them good, like Djinn, Orange Light, Eva , etc

I do wonder what the point of it being a ritual is at that point, never really liked cards that just are a type for no reason
@@GDRunnyyou could summon it with advanced ritual art
Should of shown him the food deck just to see his face when they took a meme vanilla monster from some of the earliest sets and gave it a semi competent rogue strategy archetype
21:45 literally erasing Kuribohs legacy, that is crazy
And after all kuriboh has done for him
WELL, FOR A FACT HE'S NOT THAT IMPORTANT, SIMPLY BECAUSE HE DOESN'T HAVE EFFECTS LIKE POST EFECT VEILER CARDS DID, HE'S JUST A BATTLE HANDTRAP, TOTALLY ON OTHER SIDE, WITH HANDTRAPS THAT REALLY DO (TRAP)
@@risingmoonutopiabeyond1458nobody asked
Drytron rituals have one of the craziest condition to use an effect you can find on a ritual monster.
Cimo has clearly not played modern yugioh for a while. Megalith being the most playable modern ritual deck? Drytron and Voiceless were both Tier 1
Kinda wish you would've showed him the pre errata version of Relinquished.
It'd be funny to see his reaction to this long convoluted text box that doesn't properly explain how the effect is supposed to work nor mentions any summoning condition lmao
0:22 I think Rarran is now thinking about Link cards
I thought so too but then he said he read one in 2005/2006 so I think he actually understood, whether by accident or on purpose is another question though.
Gishki was my favourite deck of all time as a casual. I never done the loops with it but I loved Levianima and Soul Ogre.
As for Chaos Max, again as a casual I loved facing it in Master Duel with my Amazoness deck, they summon it, you set a monster, they cant resist the double piercing only to find out it is Amazoness Swords Woman.
rituals probably hardest to evaulate since how many cards factor to them being good or bad
You oughta let the guest look up these cards when played in the anime. I feel like 70% of the enjoyment of playing Yugioh is playing the cards after seeing them used in the anime.
The evigishki ftk sounded hilariously evil. If that happened to me I’d cry
I still find it hilarious that it ever existed.
I mean you just concede and go game 2 once they start the loop.
Nekroz cards 100% got banned. Shurit and unicore were both banned at some point. Maybe even more cards.
Nope, just "card". Shurit was banned for a time. Brionac and Unicore were only limited.
But the Ritual Monsters weren’t banned, and that was the question.
Lmao, I was able to catch this one minutes after release, this is going to be fun.
I am severely disappointed in the lack of Drytron in this video.
Yeah he said the best modern example of a ritual deck was Megalith? Like Drytron was literally Tier 1
Forgot to mention Voiceless too
tbf to Cimo drytron was good because of the non-rituals monters + machine angle consistency as an engine.
Drytron would be a poor fit for the video because you need to read all the non-ritual cards to figure out why it's good.
I was just thinking that. Honest was such an annoying card back then.
A lot of those cards you mentioned weren't released until at least a year after ARA. Honest didn't come out until like 3 years later.
I’m pretty sure Hanetawa was legal for all of the 1 FTK burn players to get annoyed by
@@Rayzerswordhe’s talking about the herald era which cimo said only had d.d. Crow
@@d.r.643 and good for herald
1. A video focused on Ritual Monsters is nice to see. And ,yeah, Rituals are frustratingly *underpowered* on average. Even the good Ritual Archetypes are good because they are relatively generic and can combo into smth else
2. Relinquished was weird because it existed before they introduced troublesolving card text the effect was explained in a way that was so obtuse it actually left out the Ritual Summoning requirement before the errata lol
However, Relinquished was a huge deal because it was among, if not THE, first of the alternate summoning mechanic monsters that both had an effect and was somewhat *worth* the effort to summon.
Nobody tell the necroz, gishki, nouvelle, drytron, voiceless voice, chaos maxx, herald and demise players about this video🤣
herald of perfection also came out with herald of green and purple light, which were usable in the herald deck as something to discard for perfection or to negate a trap or spell.
Come on Cimo, herald of perfection literally comes from the handtrap archetype!
21:45 don’t disrespect Kuriboh like that
The problem with rituals is that once you hit the consistency of the cards the cards just fall apart and fail(aka limiting them). I couldn’t see rituals ever being banned in yugioh cause of this.
Have we ever had a super poly -type ritual? Something that can't be negated and takes your opponent's monster?
Meanwhile drytron 1 card full combo
There's enough ways to hunt down Rituals that playing 1 of is shockingly tolerable
There's also enough Alternative Ritual Spells that can summon any Ritual(As a reminder, Ritual Monsters listing their Ritual needed is not a hard restriction, unlike "Must be Fusion Summoned using listed materials" but rather closer to reminder text), you'd have to really gut the available support options for a strong Ritual Deck to completely die
Cimo correcting rarran on the pronunciation of Evigishki with the wrong pronunciation lol
Fun fact:
Relinquished's real face isn't the eyeball, its the little face right above it. Let that knowledge haunt you like it does me.
I'm absolutely devastated by this information
Konami limiting the Nekroz deck about 3 weeks after the set came out was the reason I stopped playing Yu-Gi-Oh.
No Voicless Voice which is actually strong ritual monster nowdays in modern? Odd
Hearing the gustkraken explanation just reminded me of when cgb said yugioh players just need to get gud
Considering his reaction to Nekroz, I'm hoping beyond all hope that we get a video with Rarran being taught how to play Nekroz like we got with Alex teaching him Edison
Hungry Burger mentioned 🍔
Cimooo was really out here talking about lack of hand traps in old YuGiOh, with Herald of Perfection on screen, while literally every other main deck Herald monster released at the time was a hand trap.
I was there in Nekroz format when Bull Blader was actually a card to out the Djinn lock 😂
6:34 How dare you?! Hungry burger was Mokuba's boss monster, not just a dumb burger with teeth!
I want in a completely unrelated video that is otherwise very heavily themed, to just flashbang rarran or cgb or whoever else, with a shinobird, combining rituals and spirits is just such a funny concept they have to learn about it eventually.
herald is one of the most miserable yugioh cards to go along with all the other miserable yugioh cards.
OK I was expecting Drytron, Dogmatika and Voiceless Voice to appear.... I still have nightmares of the first two seasons of Master Duel when I see a Drytron XYZ, Beatrice, EVA and the Heralds...
If we are talking about powerful ritual decks, we should mention drytron.
NOT REALLY, I'M THANFUL ENUFF THAT ALEX FROGOT ABOUT THEM
I can’t believe you didn’t tell Rarran about the “gentalman’s agreement” with djinn!
Why did Mind Augus have that first clause of "Cannot be Normal summoned or Set"??? I feel like the game was old enough to not be printing mechanic rules on the cards. No Ritual monster can be normal summoned or set...
small indie company took over 10 years to realize what rendundancy is, cut em some slack smh /s
It's quite hilarious how they have been printing Ritual cards for years, yet they almost always sucked ass.
"That's a fairy?"
Well, to be fair, the "fairy" type is actually the Angel type in the OCG, buy you know... censorship and all that.
Manju is a bit of a weird one still, but a LOT of fairy monsters make way more sense when you realize they're supposed to be angels instead.
Imagine the timeline where Ritual Monsters ended up being an Extra Deck monster alongside Fusions? I mean when you think back to early Yugioh, you can kinda see the design logic how Fusions and Rituals as the two Extra Deck monsters could balance each other out:
Fusions are summoned with a generic spell card (Polymerization) but need specific monsters as materials, while each Ritual monster needs a specific spell card, but only generic materials that just need to meet the level requirement.
Of course I think it's all too easy to imagine just how BUSTED this would make Rituals XD
"older yugioh didn't have hand traps" Kuribo looks over like "What am I to you?"
That Gishki FTK deck is EXACTLY what we just had with Nadu in MTG. Like, theoretically it's infinite but it it's not entirely deterministic and there are ways to play around it so you have to actually play it out.
Relinquished was the start of incredibly complex boss cards
"The most underpowered summoning mechanic" this is gemini erasure.
Herald of Perfection clearly is designed to look like Smough. Now you can't unsee it...
The perfect end to this video would have been to show ruhrrun a Link monster to have him lose his mind trying to figure it out how to ritual summon the thing 😀
Really hope they cover hungry burger. That card was meta defining.
Man whenever I see it I'm reminded that Nekroz of Brionac is basically just Seiya wearing the Odin Cloth.
I thought you gonna show drytron after nekroz his brain going to melt but I like you show some archtype in package cause something like snake eye flamberge from outsider might be looking fine.
Crazy that Cimo has never heard of Voiceless Voice
They was good but wasn't the beat deck or anything got hit from the Deck
🎉❤ It's amazing to see collabs with some of my favs, you and are now a new fav cause your content is fun!
37:42 "Cannot be Normal Summoned or Set" implies that Ritual Monsters CAN be Normal Summoned or Set, and that's... Something, I guess...
"There's no good card to discard"
Eva: *"Am I a joke to you?"*
I was really shocked when Cimo talked about Megalith as an example of a modern ritual deck of all things, because we've had Drytron and Silent Voice since then, but it makes sense when you consider he hasn't really played competitively for a few years. Also they never banned Rituals, but they did hit a lot of the supporting cards that made them good, like Djinn, Orange Light, Eva
, etc
throw back to when chaos max first dropped, I was playing yang zings and had to set a 0 def monster turn one and then got one shot with double piercing damage
I enjoy these videos keep them goin'
I also wanna say that music in the background for each of these videos, sounds oddly similar to the "13th dilemma" from Kingdom Hearts 2 👀 i can't get it outta my head.
Maybe I've just been playing too much lol
The Triangle of CGB, Rarran and Cimoooo is so wholesome. I realy enjoy watching you guys rating cardboard ! Thank you for the content!
you forgot about Blue-eyes chaos dragon which must be summon with blue-eyes white dragon to use its effect, Blue-eyes Chaos Max dragon can be summon with any level 8 monster. So both ritual is combo that would go together
You're producing these at lightning speed haha. Thank you!
All my homies love Ritual monsters
Rarran saying that there's infinite cards to think about- pretty sure the effect of "Infinite Cards" wouldn't be any help at all
Kuriboh and D.D. Crow would like a word Cimo.
You need to have like a cheat sheet for hand trap release dates on the side when making these
