This needs a David Attenborough voice over...Punks in their natural habitat LOL! Great video, so very very nostalgic for me as I was at the Roxy and Vortex, and used to love hangin out at Ken market!
I have to smile, looking back at this: today we think of many in this film clip as ‘ground breaking’ and ‘innovative’ people who ‘changed history’. But in all honesty? I see a bunch of suburban kids, trying to out-pose and out-cool each other 😂 I don’t say this in a derogatory way at ALL. I totally respect that punk had a huge societal impact. But I can’t help but laugh at baby-faced William Broad from Bromley, and how we today think of him as a ‘God’. These were kids, playing music their parents didn’t like or understand…and yes, it changed the world.
The look Gaye Advert gives after Don's uninvited kiss is surprised outrage, being at the time was going out with TV Smith, Don as cool as he was, was completely out of his depth with TV. Smith who was far better looking, as well as someone who was confident and comfortable with people with Don being quite awkward and unsure of himself at that time.
@@tiehign4187Uninvited kiss? Your not seeing it in context - yeah today it would be seen as bang out of order, back then women were used to a lot more shit from men, so a non-letchy kiss from a matey bloke wasn't seen as a "me too" moment. And the whole point for a lot of women was to wipe out that male ownership thing, so regardless of who she was going out with I can't imagine her having a prob with a kiss from the beautiful Monsieur Letts. Fuck, I'm bent as a 9 bob note and I wouldn't have a problem with it 😘
@@mastiffsal8185 I'm seeing it totally in context. Yes times have changed - Later, when asked, Gaye could joke about how ugly she found black guys, not nowadays! But that type of man wasn't what Gaye found attractive! But as I wrote a lot of it is down to your ignorant and not knowing these people. Certainly there might have been the odd girl that wouldn't have minded Don's kiss. But as we know from a later interview between Gaye Advert & Jane Suck where Don Letts was ridiculed so badly by Jane Suck with him being so unbelievably out of Gaye's league that it was hilarious. Gaye also said that Mick Jones had defended her honour, telling Don don't do that again, people will think you are a pervert! Adding that Mick always saw things so much quicker than anyone else and was aware that Howard Pickup the Adverts guitarist had started his way other to Don, who makes a quick runaway!

Who ever thought of Billy Idol as a god? I've always thought of him as a total wanker. Took himself way too serious, middle class prick.
Far I on the deck
Gaye's face when she gets the kiss from Mr. Gorgeous himself. She's so chuffed. They'd make a stunning couple.

Don Letts with an unsolicited kiss on the lips of Gaye Advert - That's the kind of stuff that can get you sacked today!
