I always believe people like us don’t fit in this world. Man we living hell on earth. Cried so many times about this. Had a fight in school once, i went to the principals office to xplain but i couldn’t because i was so overwhelmed. That made me cry. With this nonsense we can’t explain ourselves to anyone. And also i believe “Fear” is the most important thing you should work on. Stop being scared. Look at urself in the mirror, stop thinking about what people will say to u if u stutter. Stop thinking about stuttering cause that’d make u stutter more, Be calm even if u are in a rush.

I am a severe stutter. I have been since I was 8 (i actually discovered that last year after believing I have always stuttered), I am now 36. I've tried multiple therapies with not much luck. I've also tried your exhale technique in the past, it developed into a new behavior that I won't desccribe because I dont want anyone else trying it to be thinking about that lol.
Your second tip is actually what made the biggest difference in my life for the past year. As a stutterer I feel as though the information on how to get over it can be spoonfed to us sometimes instead of someome just giving us the whole "spiel".
BREAKING THE FEAR WALL IS THE BIGGEST THING YOU CAN DO FOR YOURSELF AND YOUR STUTTER! So for the last year I been going out and talking to strangers in the street. By far the scariest thing I had ever done in my life (and I have bungee jumped before 🤣) and man have I learned some things about myself!! My approach to how I think about speaking has COMPLETELY changed. Now instead of being focused on my next stutter and trying to come up with ways to avoid them on the spot, im focused on WHO I AM AS A PERSON. What would the non stuttering version of myself be like, how would he speak, his tone, his answers, his demeanor, body language, his word choice. I visualize those things DURING THE MOMENTS of stutter and commit to replicating it with the confidence i envision my non stuttering self to have, no matter how much I stutter. And man sometimes my brain connects to it and my stutter reduces by at least 50%. This also teaches you to accept yourself as you are as a stutter and allow you to start learning to live your life the way you really want to... WITH YOUR STUTTER.
But don't get the wrong idea, it takes time effort and consistency to get there. In the early days of your journey, one of the worst things you can do for yourself is measure your success or failures by how much you stuttered. That's far from being the point. It's a long road. You'll feel like you fell on your face over and over and over again.... Just get your ass back up.... over and over and over again because you're simply stronger. The strength that the pain of stuttering has stockpiled deep in you is far superior to ANY fear you have for ANY situation.
Today, I still stutter lol but its gotten MUCH better. It's only been a year but I KNOW my stutter's days are VERY much numbered!
You all got this, just fight back and get to work! 🤙🏿

Thank you for this video. I'm 25 and have stuttered my whole life, specifically the block stutter, not being able to even breathe out words. I've ALWAYS found different words to use or I'll change the subject/ interrupt myself so I don't sound/look silly. It's only made it worse and made my social anxiety not any better. The only one who truly hears me raw is my best friend I live with but you are absolutely right, I need to conquer my fears to beat it! This strategy has helped me in many other ways, now I need to beat my stutter that feels like it's taken over control.

this honestly helped a lot. I have been stuttering for many years and even at the age of 20, i still stutter. i am also very glad you said that it is not because ppl who stutter are nervous. in times i’m not nervous, people always tell me that i am and i get confused in myself. I also believe that stuttering so much has caused me to have self anxiety. This is very hard because i plan to be in the professional life, and to me, it is not professional to have a stuttering problem because then you can’t explain important things and details to people. the breathing exercises that you shared actually helped me. i am currently a secretary and answer phone calls all day, and it is very stressful when i stutter and the customers have a hard time understanding me sometimes. my secondary behavior is blinking and scrunching my face when i try not to stutter and to be honest, that makes me even more stressed out by the time i’m finished with my sentence. your videos really helped me out with just the little amount of advice. thank you. i will be coming back to see other advice you have to share for other people like me.

This has helped my self awareness a lot. I have stuttered since early childhood due to my father doing so, and it has always dampened my confidence. I would always invent excuses to avoid answering the phone and even expressing my true self. Others never understood why I would get so tense and composed, and why I would often adopt an exaggerative tone or eccentric vocabulary to avoid difficult sounds. I missed out on a lot of opportunities because of my fear of stuttering. On the bright side though, I developed an extensive vocabulary, which helped me to become a writer.
At age 29, I still occasionally stutter and feel bad about myself. Some girls find it cute, whereas others find it creepy. I have heard of some famous actors who overcame their stutter like Sam Neill and Emily Blunt. One day, I shall overcome mine for good! Stay strong, folks

You should know about my story. Cuz it's different. I have a big stutter when I was younger. I can barely speak and stomping my feet. Now I'm 32 and I know my way around how to speak. But strangely, I can speak like a normal person if I'm stressed or nervous. For example, job interviews, meeting new people, talking to the girl I like for the first time. I lead business meetings all the time. But when I get comfortable and relaxed with my close friends, I can barely speak. Stuttering the whole time. 😭

Talking too fast and not having an entire breath ready has got to be my #1 reason why I stutter. I’ve been doing some breathing techniques such as wimhof to reduce my anxiety levels and relax my chest/lungs. I feel this really helps and brings awareness to how much your lungs are capable of capturing and releasing when you’re in a relaxed state☺️

Last but not the least... Environmental Stress also plays pivotal role in speaking. Because we intrepret before we speak & after we speak. So, once interpretation play a role. Thanks!! First of all it's Great that someone like you understanding people like us and actually do care about it.I RESPECT YOU FOR THAT.I've been stuttering since i was a kid and as i grew up i felt like it's been due to my late dad who kept beating me up even for my silly mistakes when i was just a kid as Im an Indian its normal in India but not for people like me.Even doc said many years before its because the stress and pressure that i was on but you know....Its Very Tough being in that atmosphere.Right now I'm 27 and I really wanna get rid of this thing as Im done with it THAT's It & You're the only UA-camr and a Doc who said like "I'll surely reply y'all" so for the first time I'm speaking it out loud as i dont know you so personally so that helps me to express it freely. Please help me about it.I dont wanna feel embarrassed anymore.Sometimes less than 50% when I'm Happy I speak fluently my indian language like 8/10 times and that its so good enough for me but i get stressed out every now and then even about some delusional things like what if this happens what if that happens... and that is really WORST FOR ME.I cant express this to my family or friends, you're the only one. When Im Happy Im good with that 8/10.Sorry for taking so much of your time if you're reading this....So lastly can you Please help me out with those things? And even if you don't or can't.....May God Bless You and Your Family for the Help you're trying to do for people(:

Hello, i am a Greek girl attending high school and stutter since I was 4.
Your way of talking is very well-paced, bravo! The background is also harmonic with your down-to-earth, caring presense.
I wanted to ask you about what I can do to overcome my fear of stuttering in front of my classmates. There is a paradox: The more I try to reduce the symptoms of stutter, the worst it gets. To give you an insight, I usually tight my fists and push my legs down.
I am so overwhelmed in that moment that I cannot apply any knowledge I've absorb through your or other videos.
With the pass of time I became hesitant to speak first to anybody I was interested in, even ordering my meal or buying a ticket, let alone presenting something. It was cute when I was little but as I am getting older the expectations I have for myself (and others have for me) are more challenging.
I just want to say that it requires a lot of courage to expose this trait to such a world of instant communication, especially when it's crusial f.e. interviewing for a job.
Excuse me for any errors in my text.
    God bless you!

Before that, begin with small risks like saying your "trigger" word to a friend and record yourself reading a text out loud. Even failing is better than staying with the fear. I’m 16 and I stutter a lot. it was really bad but i’ve been through 10 years of therapy. still stutter. i’m giving up i’m crying so much because of it and i need help i don’t know what to do. it’s caused me to be the boring person people think i am cause i can’t speak. i avoid words. one of the hardest is the number three. i can’t start small talk and now i’ve been so used to not talking in conversations that now nothing even comes to mind to talk about if i wanted to. everyone says oh we don’t notice. and it annoys me so much because they don’t understand that the little they hear is my filtered version of talking. not the stuttering version. and the filtered version is extremely limited and small because i stutter a lot. i cant take it anymore. i wanna be friends with the guys in my class but i can’t because i can’t even talk to them.

I understand you. When I was in school and we had a foreign literature class, we would read a book, every classmate would read a small passage, and give a turn to the next one. Funnily, I would predict when my turn approximately would be, and I would just go out of the class beforehand and come back when my turn was skipped :))
I'm now 19, but I tried different exercises in my childhood, like reading a book very slowly, breathing techniques and so on. Maybe I should have continued practicing, but I just quit.
What I have found most helpful over the years is going to bed early. Around 21:30, that is 9:30 pm. When I do that for a week or two, I speak better. Maybe you can try it.
Anyway, keep going and don't worry. It will be just fine, believe me. Wish you all the best.

I’m 33. I have a mild stutter when I talk. I would get picked on in middle school and high school because of my stuttering. My step dad always made fun of me for it, that’d make me nervous and just shut down. Earlier I was watching a UA-cam short video about how this guy had a stutter and he got over it. I didn’t know there were videos. When I was in school I even went to speech classes. I have a 7 y/o and I’m teaching her yes I have a stutter and just because someone has a speech impediment doesn’t mean they are dumb or stupid. You should NEVER bully anyone because imagine if they bullied you how would you like it.

For 30 years I’d been thinking that avoiding is bad and always did my best to go through my fear. I thought I would adapt sooner or later and then move on and progress.
But now I know that to get out of comfort zone you need first to get there and stay for some time. And now I know that for adapting after a bew breakthrough you need to have your adaptation mechanisms work well.
However, if you have chronic traumatic experience beside stuttering you may be having ptsd or anxiety disorder + social anxiety for years without even knowing it.
Having that and pushing yourself to the limit constantly to not avoid what scares you or what makes you always be not satisfied with yourself in public can lead to very poor physical state: severe migraines, stomach and bowel diseases (chronic spasms in diaphragm can keep your gallbladder out of it’s well functioning which causes bad bacteria growth because bile doesn’t “sanitize” what comes to intestine, you have to take antibiotics that help for a couple of months and then it starts all over again untill gastroenterologist tell you need to see a psychiatrist too, though gastrointestinal changes in your stomach and intestines are real and seen via gastro and colonoscopy); when you’re always having physical tention tryouts to speak when you can’t you may be having neurological problems such as noises in your ears because your scalene muscles in your neck are too tight and creates compression for nerves, arteries, blood vessels in your neck.
Not mentioning, constipations for weeks, then for months, then for years, usually associated with social events, projects; constant tremors in muscles, bad sleep, depression state causes by anxiety etc.
Then you finally get to a good neurologist who tells you for the first time that maybe it’s your anxiety and all are making stuttering worse not vice versa, taking into account endured traumatic experience in past.
Then you finally encourage yourself to start taking antidepressants prescribed by psychiatrist. And only after one year of taking them you start feeling a bit how people with typical adaptation mechanisms live.
And that goes along with years of psychological therapy including CBT before getting worse.
    What is my message about.
Avoiding behavior is not always bad in some cases, even if CBT proves it’s bad. There is time for your breakthroughs but there is time to avoid sth not because you’re scared or can’t do but because it’s too much for your nervous system and it will knock you off when it’s done. Maybe we just should add more consciousness to breakthroughs and to avoidance.

  • @gliese909
    @gliese909 2 роки тому

What's interesting with me is that at one time I didn't stutter in all spoken languages (English & French). Between 1994-97, I was forced by the school in which I was attending to receive treatment for a non-existing speech/language condition through a school therapist. In other words, I was literally trained to stutter (English only). In other words. If it ain't broke, why try to fix it. While this unnecessary treatment was ongoing, my speech slowly began to deteriorate and I began to stutter. It's something I still have to deal with as of today; however, because I was not subject to the above treatment while learning/speaking French. I never developed a stutter in that language, as I don't have a true speech defect. In my opinion, I don't think the reason I speak French (my second language) is a similar phenomenon of why stuttering stops while singing. While I'm no expert. The reason I think this is because with singing, everything is planned out (lyrics) in advanced, whereas with speaking, planning is sometimes in advance and other times sudden, such as, sudden change or deviation of topic. This is usually not the case with singing.

  • @XDMisterlow

English is my second language! When I speak I cannot say the word without pausing and thinking, even though I know the exact words and I can write down what ever I want easily, but when it comes to talking to an English speaking person, I lose my confidence and I sound like I’m stuttering or delaying when speaking. How can I get rid of this habit?
