Was skeptical of Sam Darnold at the start of the year, but he’s looked great for a while now and making throws I never thought I would see from Sam Darnold. Kevin O’Connell deserves Coach of the Year with what he has turned Sam into.
It's amazing what an average QB can do with tons of weapons and a good defense. The only guys who really had to prove it all by themselves year after year were Tom Brady and Peyton manning.. Manning with the mediocre to bad defenses, and Tom with zero good wide outs most of the time.
The real revelation is, we haven't seen Darnold's ceiling yet. As far as playing within a great system, he's still just a super-talented rookie. Give him one more year with KOC and these receivers...watch him further refine his familiarity with how they run their routes. This guy could start looking like a bigger, stronger version of Kurt Warner. As a Vikings fan, I don't mind that at all.
Hit it right on the head with this comment Crazy to see the strides he’s taken in just a couple of weeks as he’s gotten familiar with the offense. Giving him another year or two would be incredible to watch
FINALLY! The Vikings are treating their first offensive possession as if it’s their last, and if they don’t score - they lose and go home!! I’ve been waiting for that for decades!!! No Quarter!!! GO VIKES!!!
The "twisting turning" catch/throw is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. I've been a Packer fan for 30 years and that has to have Vikings fans RAGING
Unpredictable was probably the best word you used to describe this team and offense. These next two weeks for the Vikings are must see games in the NFL.
You know, I just don’t know why I stayed the whole time watching this video as a Bears fan, but that’s because you make the videos so entertaining! Just subscribed
Dude as a vikings fan I seriously love what KOC and Darnold are doing this year. I know Jj was supposed to take over after this year but I hope we sign Darnold and pay what he needs to get paid to keep this up
It’s becoming more and more difficult to think the Vikings even entertain the idea of doing otherwise One of the best starts to a season in franchise history
Last QB that could move in the pocket like this was 2017 Case Keenum..It opens so much more possibilities..I do tend to get nervous in the amount of time Sam holds on to the ball every week but it’s worked lol
It’s been entertaining to watch KOC’s play-calling tendencies with Darnold as the season has progressed The further down the line we get, the more expanded the play-calling becomes. You see a ton more longer developing route concepts because of what Darnold has shown in the pocket & like you said it opens up so much for them
Sam has shown this playmaking ability from year 1 in NY. He then spent 2 years under the tutelage of offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains (no, really, look it up), teamed up with some of the worst drafting and free agent acquisitions in the NFL. The nightmare continued in Carolina. When they spit him out, the better minds in the game grabbed him in case their current plans didn’t pan out (which didn’t happen in SF, but did in Min) and now Sam’s doing this with less than a full season in this system. The Jets will not find a franchise QB because it’s not a matter of acquiring the right player, it’s about putting together a team that will develop the talent they have.
Couldn’t have said it better myself Hoping the Vikings look to resign him to see the heights this offense can reach in the next couple of years and he gets more familiarized
Constant growth man. You said it. I knew it was gonna take a while, but I never guessed they'd come out winning like they have. Looking back even 3 weeks ago to now and Sams decision making... it's night and day. That's scary, next level craizness bro. It's all coming together at the perfect moment. I just hope the moment isn't too big for them.
I had confidence that Darnold would be good for Minnesota when the trade was announced because he’d spent a year at S.F. getting the coaching and mentoring he never got in his first 5 seasons, and I always believed he had the talent and desire to be successful in the League. I’ve followed him since he turned heads at USC as an 18 year old, beating out their highly recruited QB the following year as a RS freshman. He checked a lot of boxes talent-wise but it was his incredible will to win that convinced me he could be a success at the next level. He got a raw deal being stuck all those seasons at crappy organizations with little idea how to mold him. Having said all that, I must admit he’s exceeded even my expectations. It sure is fun to watch .
Best catch team in football(.). From Nailor to Hutch to Addison to JJ to Jones out of the backfield, all tremendous hands on passes. When you toss in a QB trying to define his reason for being, and learning a new system without missing a beat as to why he was drafted? This is frustrating defenses throughout the league and defying critics across the nation. This team is the most proficiently explosive team in football. The vikings have had better teams than this, but I kind of hope they go all the way this year. What a story in the making.
It’s been remarkable to watch Like you said, no one had this team performing at the level they currently are. Would make it even more crazy if they add some postseason success on top of this
I appreciate you a ton 🤝 glad you enjoyed! Bengals content will absolutely be on the table depending on what they do coming up in Week 18. Would be crazy to see them squeak into the playoffs
First time seeing this and yet I feel people are still waiting on the Sam Darnold fallout where I don’t see it happening. Dude was with two of the worst organizations ever in the Jets and Panthers that have NO CLUE on how to develop a quarterback let alone build around the position. Glad Sam is showing that he always had the talent!
Agreed. Just continuing to hope Minnesota runs it back for the next 1-2 years with Darnold following 2024 This offense feels like it hasn’t scratched the surface yet in terms of what they could be fully capable of if given more time to work together
THIS. He played with the two trash organizations. Geno was a certified bust before he left the Jets and came to Seattle. That's why im willing to give Bryce plenty of grace because he has nothing around him to work with.
it is amazing what an above average QB can do with a few weapons around him. Darnold is in the best possible situation. He's got 2 awesome wide receivers, a good tight end that can block, and a competent running back to take the pressure off him.
As a lifelong Vikings fan and as a red-headed guy named Sam, this season has been the fulfillment of so many childhood fantasies. Today is gonna be my wildest day as a Vikings fan ever. SKOL Vikings.
For a few games after our 5 win streak i got frustrated with Darnold but it seems he's put in the work cuz he looks like an MVP QB right now. He deserves a little respect. KOC knows how to bring out the best in QBs n he's got the natural talent n he's putting in the right kind of work. Time to give credit where it's due
The more season has gone on, the more comfortable you can visually see Darnold has become within the offense Just continues to get & look better and better with every week it seems
Plenty from the receiving corps helps too. Something that made Cousins look good as well, but alas, look at Cousins back to his old self with Atlanta this year.
a lot of this is on you, OL. no pressure... Sam holds the ball past 3 secs often. I really liked the check downs and quick, short passes last couple of games. we absolutely need that mixed in. separate subject: the thing that impresses me most about Darnold is how he didn't let the bad teams he was with pollute his confidence (although i'm sure working with KOC has helped too). he could've ended up second guessing himself all over the place. it's obvious that at least the core of his confidence remained even after the jets and panthers debacles. that's some resilience, there.
That was some bad a** dime throwing and really good wide receiver play man he Jefferson can get open anytime anywhere and if he can't get open Sam or throw him open
@@TheFootballDigestKOC did same thing to nick Mullens for 2 weeks 😭 if I were to get drafted Kevin O’Connell would be my coach he makes bad QBs to MVP candidates he did it to Joshua dobbs when he didn’t even know playbook not even his offensive-lineman names
Chargers fan here. the OC Greg Roman is criticized for being too old school, but I see a lot of the same passing concepts being used by MIN (to much better results, obviously). Those people criticize some plays due to the close spacing between receivers (as opposed to the west coast offense style that spreads WR out). Goes to show that we have to be somewhat scheme agnostic: it's not that one scheme is modern/better and the other old/conservative/bad. It's all about execution, personnel and adapting to the opponents. And Darnold has been executing like few, after having some of the worse QB career statistics. Wonderful.
Couldn’t agree with you more Different schematics & playstyles will bode well with different QBs depending on their strongpoints. Sam Darnold’s entire career up to this point & the jump he’s made this year a living example of it. Just been remarkable to watch
If I'm ziggy wilf and I see that locker room celebration 🍾 when Sam Darnold walks in the room I'm thinking 🤔 to myself wow.. never seen that before maybe we should extend this kid he's caught fire 🔥 and the whole team is rolling like a train 🚆 #SKOL2THEBOWL
I have been the biggest Sam Darnold hater out there, but he's making me eat every negative word I've spoken about him. Even as a non-viking fan, he's made it exciting to live in Minnesota this year
Honestly nuts I didn't watch the beginning of this season cause I'd honestly had no to little hope I admit it. But I've watched a lot of vikings and Superbowl football and everything I see here is remarkable honestly. It's the real deal. Detroit is only thing in their way. If they’re waiting to see how far he takes them into the playoffs to give him a franchise spot. They may be too late. Pretty sure he has offers coming in already.
The one thing I would like to see is for Sam to be able to get rid of the ball a little quicker, because when the Vikings play the Lions I’m not sure he’s going to have the luxury of as much time in the pocket as he has been, previously. Now, maybe it takes time for the plays to fully develop so he can better make his choice of receiver, but I’m concerned what will happen if the pass rush starts getting to him sooner.
I definitely see where you’re coming from. Gonna be very interesting to see what their overall game plan will be going into that matchup this Sunday Cannot wait for this game
We will see some qb draws against the lions. Sam is an elite athlete. Lions don't see that and will sell out to stop the pass which will give Jones and Akers plenty off grass to eat up.
Oconnall made josh doubs look good . This is not surprising. This guy a qb whisperer. Only thing makes me think sam different is the way oconall interacts with him you see those locker room speeches dude looks like a proud dad looking at sam
Sams just doing it ! Your correct theres not many qb's that can put the ball in the cup basket what ever you want to call it tom brady did against the packer to scotty miller before the first half ended with the tampa ...
It's not hard to figure out. He is on a good team with talent around him. He didn't have that on the jets and panthers. Put Mahomes on the worst team and see how he plays.
Yeah KOC has definitely improved a lot since last year. It was frustrating watching him try to make players like Josh Dobbs play like Kirk cousins. Everybody from the coaching staff to the players took a tiny step or a giant leap forward this year and it's paying off big time. I was in the start JJ McCarthy to start the season camp but there is no doubt about it, Sam Darnold has to be back at minimum next season 🤠
If anyone is still itching for cold takes on Darnold the facility has that one ring-chasing washed up RB who had his mind blown when someone pointed out how mediocre Nick Foles was at overall but he still had that Super Bowl winning run.
I think last week against Seattle really opened up the majority’s eyes about what Sam Darnold has been doing all year Just an amazing performance & I hope it continues
Darnolds accuracy is superior whether he's running left , right , forward or back...There are some QB's in the NFL that don't have half of that accuracy... one of them makes 240 million a year.
Purdy did the exact same thing last season (and the year before) and y'all wouldn't stop crying "system quarterback." Both had PHENOMENAL seasons. MVP caliber.
This is the Sam Darnold I watched live in the 2017 Rose Bowl where he brought USC back from a 14 point deficit in the 4th Quarter to beat #5 Penn State. Dide was slinging it all over the field like hes doing now with the Vikings. 🤷🏻♂️
If you don't put that man on the ground, you are going to lose. And even if you do put the man on the ground, and you hit him as hard as you can, he'll get back up like nothing happened and burn you the next play. I've been calling Sam "The Terminator", or "The D-1000" or "Darnold Schwarzenegger". It doesn't matter what you do to him, he just keeps coming, like a machine sent from the future with a singular task. "That Terminator is out there! It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop... ever"
Feels inevitable that they work to keep Darnold around for the next 1-2 years. Would be borderline insane for them to not want to run it back given this success
Idk about that. Addison is a good wr, hockenson is top 5 te in the league, if only the vikings had better run blocking +scheme to make it a more complete complimentary offense
Donald vs Goff. This is a Justin Jefferson game. I like our Defense. But lately the Lions don't seem to care what defense there playing. We better score a lot of points LOL
I hope the vikings pay darnold, i know this wouldn't have happened if Mccarthy didn't get injured, hope they let him sit and get well, and not push darnold out
Definitely would not do McCarthy any bad sitting and observing for another year. Especially given the success Darnold & the offense is currently seeing
I'm a Viking fan since 1961, I'm ready for the ultimate disappointment which inevitably will happen , remember fran, at one point the best passer in all the league.
He worked for the Jets. Enough said. Maybe not because Aaron Rodgers works there and has the same problem. The Jets. Big arm mobile QB guy probably has a problem? He has a couple WR1s, all world TE, all down RB. Vikes probably saved another New York QB by signing Dan Jones to the practice squad. Rodgers might be next. At this rate, the Packers might just be the Vikings farm team.
U just have to compare to kocs last 13 win season. That year felt very fraudulent and lucky not saying they didn’t earn 13 wins but wasn’t surprised they lost right away in the playoffs but this team is obviously different they actually look good. I think alot of the credit is the change at qb.

Darnold fits the Vikings and it's not just another Case Keenum type season.

The Viking are the Real deal that nobody seen coming, oops scratch that I mean that nobody wanted to see coming!
A little bit of both 😂
Purdy did the exact same thing last season (and the year before) and y'all wouldn't stop crying "system quarterback." Both had PHENOMENAL seasons. MVP caliber.
Going to be extremely interesting to see the money they’ll both rightfully earn in the free agent market this offseason
This is the Sam Darnold I watched live in the 2017 Rose Bowl where he brought USC back from a 14 point deficit in the 4th Quarter to beat #5 Penn State. Dide was slinging it all over the field like hes doing now with the Vikings. 🤷🏻♂️
Love it!!!
🤝🤝
This is great!
Hope you enjoyed 🤝
@ You nailed it.
please dont dump him for that bust from michigan
💜Skol!!’💜 It’s Vikes Time! 💜
💪
Give a good quarterback a system, coaches, and players, and then they become really good.
Darnold Schwarzenegger || Sammy Deep Darnold
A+ nicknames
If you don't put that man on the ground, you are going to lose. And even if you do put the man on the ground, and you hit him as hard as you can, he'll get back up like nothing happened and burn you the next play. I've been calling Sam "The Terminator", or "The D-1000" or "Darnold Schwarzenegger". It doesn't matter what you do to him, he just keeps coming, like a machine sent from the future with a singular task.
"That Terminator is out there! It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop... ever"
Been unbelievable to watch how many critics he’s silenced week in and week out with what he’s doing
he throws to the top duo of receivers in the league and defense plays well.. They look good but its also not just sam.
Wonder if they keep him next year or what happens with McCarthy
Feels inevitable that they work to keep Darnold around for the next 1-2 years. Would be borderline insane for them to not want to run it back given this success
Darnold is playing with 1 all pro on offense. Justin Jefferson. Thats it. Purdy had 6 all pro's on offense and lost the superbowl. Thanks 49ers. Lol.
Just insane when looking at it from that perspective
@@TheFootballDigestgreat video editing and highlights, more professional than the NFL channel. Subbed.
Idk about that. Addison is a good wr, hockenson is top 5 te in the league, if only the vikings had better run blocking +scheme to make it a more complete complimentary offense
I wouldnt be shocked for him to go back to SF if Darnold leaves MN. It could be a great match again.
@@adeptgopnik To replace the dude to took the job from him...not happening.
This content hit different…
Very glad you enjoyed 🤝
He is ready for the rams 😡😂
And to think theyve done this with expectations of a tank year xD
Right? Projected to have 6 wins in the preseason. Just insane
How Sam does in the playoffs will determine where he ends up next year. One things for sure.. he's gonna get paid
Extremely curious to see what they will do come January
Like you said, gonna be a huge factor as to what happens going forward
This is a QB designed for the playoffs.
Love Darnie boy
Hard not to
Donald vs Goff. This is a Justin Jefferson game. I like our Defense. But lately the Lions don't seem to care what defense there playing. We better score a lot of points LOL
The NFL (minus the Lions) cannot figure out Sam Darnold
MVP 🔥
I hope the vikings pay darnold, i know this wouldn't have happened if Mccarthy didn't get injured, hope they let him sit and get well, and not push darnold out
Definitely would not do McCarthy any bad sitting and observing for another year. Especially given the success Darnold & the offense is currently seeing
As a vikings fan im glad we're winning
I always knew he had it in him.
If a Vikings qb the last few years is having success they have to be good slinging under pressure cuz that oline is that bad.
HEY DARNOOOOLDD
A high powered passing offense fits Sam, which why he struggled with other teams cause the play style never fitted him
looks like Tom Brady out there
Say whaaaat😂😂😂
Well well well
I swear to God, if we let him walk…
I'm a Viking fan since 1961, I'm ready for the ultimate disappointment which inevitably will happen , remember fran, at one point the best passer in all the league.
SKOL!!!!
Classic jets.
😂
@ as a jets fan, I use “fan” loosely. It’s so funny seeing every former jet qb go to the playoffs when we have aaron Rodgers who can’t score.
I know their secret sauce.
Vikings might go all the way 18 and 2
U just have to compare to kocs last 13 win season. That year felt very fraudulent and lucky not saying they didn’t earn 13 wins but wasn’t surprised they lost right away in the playoffs but this team is obviously different they actually look good. I think alot of the credit is the change at qb.
