While kinda predatory to tax something people are addicted to for the funding, even as a rural resident of southern MN and a smoker, I was ok with paying it to get this done and keep our team, but why is the tax still there?! They've bragged about how it was paid off early, so why are we still paying, and where's that money going?! Im ok with paying for worthy projects, but you gotta tell the people what they're paying for... Feel more than a little scammed by the state of MN for continuing to collect these taxes long after the stadium was paid for
The accountability of tax dollars in your state is atrocious. Walz oversees numerous projects that have been defrauded millions of dollars and does little to stop these on going scams while bragging how HE is feeding children.
It’s so interesting how all of the “temporary” taxes and programs somehow turn out to be permanent. The corruption of US and State governments know no bounds.
I think the start of the Domes demise was when Target Field opened and the twins left. There was always a trade off having a duel use stadium. Once the other half of the duel use left and it was souly being used as a football venue the flaws couldnt really be explained away. Then the final nail was when the roof collapsed and they saw TCF bank could handle a vikings game.
The Twins had a bad deal with the dome, a lot of the money that was generated by concessions didn't go to the Twins. The Pohlads know one thing, how to make money. It was a very good business decision to get out of a bad dome deal and get public funding for their stadium first.
@@RonErickson-w6n Yes and now the bean-counters are the Wilf family, owners of the Vikings. All they care about is money. In fact, they were keeping "double books" while cheating one of their business partners. Facts.
In the dome's heyday, it was doing 340 events per yr. In the 90's, it was the most profitable stadium in the US. It was just not logistically and design wise set up for where the 2000's food demands took us. I was very familiar with the dome for 20 years.
its hard to believe its almost 10 years old. it looks amazing as it was when new. the same could never be said of the metrodome at anytime, especially 10 years after opening when it already seemed old.
And there's been reports of MOLD that formed behind the exterior panels. ISH, everyone breathing all the mold, with the glass ceiling preventing any toxic mold vapors from escaping. None for me, thanks!
Was there for a Kenny Chesney concert a year or two after it opened.....terrible acoustics....barely could tell what song he was singing.....Hopefully it has gotten better
I look at the dollars spent and compare that to dollars sent overseas to enrich the good ol military industrial complex. We could have a stadium in every city.
Built on the backs of tobacco users as well. An additional Minnesota tobacco tax was added to go to building the stadium. A tax that non users don't pay. And the tax is still there. Yeah everybody knows tobacco use isn't good for you. But is that really fair? Furthermore i don't think its fair for the entire state of taxpayers to have to foot the bill either.
Wilfs put up over $650 million. More than half. Plus, it added in the training facility and the renovation of the target center. The tax helped pay it off like 17 years early. The tobacco tax was on pre package smokes "big tobacco". Don't like it? Quit, vape, or roll your own.
Paid for how many years n advance? You failed to include how much revenue the stadium has generated. I would be willing to the the motels, bars and restaurants have done well in the downtown area.
@@gregadams569yet, the downtown struggles. I love the stadium. However, let’s not pretend that poor political leadership hasn’t offset many of the potential benefits that the stadium could provide. It's funny you guys say a tax on cigarettes help pay for the stadium, but if you step outside to have a smoke, you get busted and they tell you to put it out right away
Nice reporting, to bad they got hoodwinked by the city they could of put it north of town on a vacant military grounds and could of had room for parking and tailgating. In a few more yrs it will be building land locked and nobody will be going to it.

It is beautiful 🤩
It's a beautiful stadium and the games are really fun to watch there. The bathrooms could have been a lot better though..
As a Minnesotan I'll say this, the stadium is nice but the location stinks. Parking is a nightmare and tailgating is basically nonexistent.

A little misleading there voiceover guy. The last stadium in the same place hosted all the same events. This one is just much nicer.
Never getting a World Series in this "new" dome.
