Wear your safety glasses, or you'll shoot your eye out. Try on some gloves. Take off that spark plug boot. Clean your room. Open the windows, those fumes are nasty. Just 'cause I do it, don't think it's the end all, be all solution. There's plenty more ideas out there, I can't take responsibility if you slice off a few fingers after watching my videos. And don't just pour that toxic stuff down the sewer or in the ditch, dispose of waste responsibly. Just be safe, OK?

I really like it when the things that go wrong aren't edited from the video. Sometimes things go wrong and it happens to all of us that work with small engine repair. Thanks for another great video.
I try to keep it real Mr Bill. I appreciate you watching!
Yep I screwed up alot lately
Just happy summer is over and chainsaw time setting down
The mirror to look at the carburetor is a great idea.
It's a cheat code as well as a time saver. Saves pulling the carb, and maybe messing up gaskets that I might not have on hand if it's not really gagged up. I appreciate you watching. Cheers!
I only try to fix lawn equipment as a hobby. No expert by any means.. but I want to thank you for this channel. I learn from you all the time.
Wow, thanks! I appreciate you watching!
Nice, precisely done. Part numbers for the spark, and air filter is a welcome bonus
Thanks 👍
Dear LML, Life is full of frustrations. Many of which, you can't avoid but having an oil extractor is one sure way to make all your working days brighter and better ...worked for me anyway ! In fact, I got 2, one for oil and the other for stale fuel. Regards !
Thanks! I have one, but don't use it in videos. I figured as tutorial videos, most folks don't have something like that
excellent work, maintenance is key, and most people simply overlook it.
I agree, but it keeps me busy :)
Hello @TheLawnmowerLady just wanted to thank you for this video. My mower wouldn’t start and I was very upset! After finding your video I ordered spark plugs and followers each maintenance step you provided and now it works! Thanks so much once again you saved my life!!!!! Greetings from Mexico ❤
Glad I could help! I appreciate you watching. Cheers!
Hi Stella. We’ve all been there with messy oil changes. 🤦♀️ Tough to avoid on that engine. Great video.
Thank you Ms Patterson. Cheers!
Thanks!
Excellent info and video Stella! 😁
Whoa! Super thanks to you, Mr Steve for your support. Cheers!
Nice video Ken😁 It’s easily seen the design engineers don’t service what they design
Very true Mr Al. Thanks for watching!
As always, You are Ms. Smooth when things go left on you.
😊 thank you Mr Bill !

Thank you Mr Martin, I will !
2:35 spark plug replacement👍
Thanks for the help with “restricted mode”!
Happy to help!
I've never had ANY problems getting parts for my lawnboy. Same engine kohler xtx650. All 3 of my local hardware stores have them and very easy to find online.
My complaint with Kohler parts system, is the inability to order single replacement parts without purchasing an entire kit. Things like a single carburetor bowl gasket. Can't purchase only that item, I have to purchase a kit with a new float, needle, pin, all the fiber gaskets, etc. Thanks for watching.
Very nice video lawnmower lady. Sold one of those a few years ago. Ran like a top but…..puked oil like crazy. The fix, new sump gasket and it was a pain the butt trying to locate one. That mower is still in service to this day and no more oil leak.
Thanks for watching Mr Brett. Cheers!
You’ll have to pop over to my channel and check out my vid on my old 1970 lawn boy.
Im going to try that wood block trick.
Great video Stella - if you are in the market for a vacuum oil suction thing - get the one that's shop air operated - it is soooo much better than the manuel operated one.
And OEM approved!
Thanks Claus! Spoiler alert: I already purchased one, with both air, manual operation. Planning an un-boxing video. Too bad I didn't have it for this mess.
Really I don’t like my air one because I work outside a lot
Dang air hose so I’m back to old hand one
Really enjoy the calm demeanor no matter what surprises develop. You could edit them out, but reality is what it is. We've all been there, sometimes more than once. Your preventive rust tip on the blade adapter was really great! Thank you again for a quality video, narration and filming efforts!! Stay well!!! 🙏
Cheers Mr G! Thanks for watching!

I love your casual humor ( BP worthy oil spill)
Thank goodness for that big pan you had under there. Appreciate your time & efforts to make videos.👍
Thank you kindly. Cheers!
Always look forward to your vids even if I don’t own that exact model. Thank you.
I appreciate you watching. Cheers!
Fill...Tape a soda straw to the side of your funnel.. Have one end even with the bottom of the funnel; the other even with the top of the 'pipe' of the funnel. This will allow air to vent from the crankcase via the straw
as oil is added via the funnel.
Drain... leave oil cap/dipstick in place until you have mower tilted and positioned over drain pan. Now remove cap/dipstick as you would on an automobile. Hope this helps.
That's a brilliant idea! Thanks!
very good video ken I mean stella 😁 that lawnboy kohler needed some love there
Cheers Mr John!
ms LLL [lovely lawnmower lady] - thank you for posting. good 'worst case' planning ahead w/ the big water heater pan. i like your fashionable 'ripped knees' work trou. take care - dLL
LOL! Thanks!
I sure wish engine manufacturers hadn't done away with the oil drain plug. I have one of those hand operated suction pumps. It works ok. They just don't last long. My 'business' is mostly friends or friends of friends so buying an air operated evacuator isn't cost effective. As usual, good tutorial Stella.
I agree Mr Jim! I had one of those manual ones too. The seals gave up pretty quickly. Thanks for watching!
Another great teaching moment. Thanks ken. Lol😁
Thanks for watching!
Nice one stella - you rock 👍
Thank you 😁 Anders. Cheers!
Great video, I like your style. 👍👍
Thanks! I appreciate you watching. Cheers!
Good job ken ohh I mean Stella.. great video as always
Thanks! 😃
great video! thanks
I appreciate you watching. Cheers!
You might like a topsider vacuum pump oil extractor.
I purchased one right after this video.
Good video
Thanks for the visit
Great video ty
Happy to help. Cheers!
To change the oil on mine I usually put it up on its side, put the oil pan under, then take the oil cap off
That's probably far better than my BP moment. LOL
I have this exact same mower. You should do a video on how to service the self propell mechanism. Mine just slips non stop and only seems to semi work when on a flat surface.
I haven't looked up that parts diagram, but many of these drive are sealed, non-serviceable units. That said, do check the cable adjustment, and often with plastic drive wheels, the teeth get worn and can slip. Hope this helps.
@@TheLawnmowerLady do you happen to have any suggestions for what appears to be the choke sticking on? Put new spark plug in and the old one was black/burning rich. Put a brand new choke on and just changed the oil. It takes a while to "warm up" before it idles out.
Great video. Very easy to follow and you’ve explained things so well.
Question for you
I have a Kohler XT-650
During a session it randomly turned off on me. It wouldn’t start up at all, I initially thought it ran out of gasoline so I added some. After adding gas it still didn’t start up. I don’t know much about lawn mower but I started to look around the components
It looked dirty. I started to clean around and tried to run it again but no luck. I decided to lean the lawnmower on its side with the carburetor side almost touching the ground and it started up fine that way but it turns off when I seat it back to normal.
Sorry I know that was a long explanation
But do you have any ideas?
I’m thinking it needs a good cleaning or possible clog in fuel line
First off I would avoid turning the mower over on the carb side. Depending on the position of the valves when it last stopped, oil can leak past the valves and through the breather tube, which exits back into the airbox. You quickly will saturate your air filter with oil, and it will need to be replaced. It sounds as if there is something fouling with the needle and seat operation. I don't have a video on removing and cleaning a carb on a Kohler engine, but it's very similar to a Honda. This video might help: ua-cam.com/video/wJPM_ArLSgg/v-deo.htmlsi=Dw-p1qx4zEIS3dvO
Very very good 😊💯❤
Thanks 🔥
Gave the Chubby Butcher your sticker and magnet spare that i had, he just did a shout out for you on his cooking channels latest video
Awesome thank you! I was wondering where he got that sticker from. I got a notification from YT, that he mentioned my channel. He's got some yummy good stuff going on his channel. Cheers Mr Wayne!
@@TheLawnmowerLady No problemo Stella have a few extras and i tole TBone i would give him one a week to shout out. Think Big John is next
Do you have a part number for the drive belt? Tia
Hi Lawnmower lady, I just subscribed to your channel and watched several videos. You do good work. My only suggestion is to wear neoprene plastic gloves to keep gas off your hands. You might need to have 2 gloves on each hand because gas may dissolve the outer layer, especially if they are thin. Joe Carleo - Started fixing small engines at 12.
Thanks Mr Joe! I actually do wear gloves, clearly though, not often enough. Cheers!
Nice job Ms Mower Fix'n Lady, that oil situation was a mess though. 👍🏼
Did we talk about making a oil extractor? Use mine regularly and works great for $10. 🙂
Too late! Unboxing video coming to a screen near you :)
LoL, awesome, looking forward to seeing your new gadget. 🙂👍🏼
I have the Toro equivalent to this/ The plastic rear wheel drive has weakened to the point where it doesnt push out to keep the distance it needs to engage the gear. Other than replacement, is there a way to push the plastic back out?
Hmmm, I'm not sure. Have you looked at a parts diagram to see how the parts fit together?
Oil extractors are the cats a-- if you know what i mean but the air operated ones beat the hell out of the hand pump style. I may have to talk to the boss to get one since i am too old to be hand pumping this unit. Nice video Stella and yep them LawnBoys only need one easy pull to start em eh?
The boss already bought one for me :) planning an unboxing video. I've had the manual ones, but the seals go bad after a few seasons.
@@TheLawnmowerLady We got our Pela 6000 manual oil extractor 4 years ago, seals on the pump all good but a pain in the you know what to pump when there is 72 ounces to pump out of a rider. Likely time for us to get an electric style pump oil extractor also but will watch your video first.
@@waynestefinashen239 I got a 6.5L one from AMZN, just under $100. It had good reviews, and good warranty ( hope I never need it) An overseas mfgr, but claims to have US Patent? I figure it was worth a shot.
Hmmm….I have an old riding lawnmower and recently had the same problem as shown at about 8:00 here, where seasons’ worth of dry grass jammed up on the belt, and actually caused the belt to break. Since then, I’ve tried to scoop as much out with my hand as possible, but it is difficult to get to, as the deck is in the way. Is there any trick to getting to this area on a riding mower, other than removing the deck??
I've seen folks just hose it out with garden sprayer, in one side of the baffle and out the other. You risk rust and moisture on the pulleys and bearings, but a quick spin without mowing would sling off a lot of excess moisture?
@@TheLawnmowerLady Worth a try. Thanks!
I spilled oil just like that after washing my mower 😞
Stella, where did you get that tiny 1/4 drive ratchet? Or the make of it. Thanks, Ray from Ohio.
Pretty sure I got the set from NorthernTool, and at the time, I cringed at the price ($25 or so). I retrospect, they are worth very penny. They now offer an updated version, with an offset handle: amzn.to/3FFPtnW This version allows a bit of clearance for your knuckles. Cheers!
@@TheLawnmowerLady Thank you Stella.
I have a Kohler engine that leaks from the sump gasket and I couldn't find the gasket for it.
I hope you can find it without having to buy some kit with 8 other parts you don't need. I think opeengines.com has the best look up for parts. Thanks for watching!
Make a gasket from gasket material from parts store
👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!
That engine is missing the oil filler tube. See how the top has a cut out? There should be a long plastic tube extending top the top of the engine. And just an FYI a while new carburetor is only 75 cents more than a rebuild kit. Literally 2 bolts and a couple hoses.
I think this model does not come with that filler tube. For reasons unrelated to this video, I downloaded the OM for this mower, and the oil change instructions showed this same oil filler plug. The oil drain instructions were to turn the mower on its side first, place a catch container under the side, and then remove the drain plug, with the mower on it's side.
Nice video but that oil slick oh no luck was on your side save Mother Earth.I to use a flat pan to
Thanks Mr Hank! It's saved my bacon on many occasions.
Foe suction take the top os a two liter pop bottle and drill a hole through the cap then use an appropriate length of hose through the bottle cap and into a gallon container placed inside the vac. Insert the hose into the mower, turn it on and the suction will seal the pop bottle top end and suck the oil into the container. A very cheap solution for a oil extractor. I don’t recall whose idea on UA-cam it was but not original to me. I don’t have any original ideas they all come from UA-cam!
Great idea! Thanks for watching. Cheers!

These Kohler engines have a junk fuel system. Too bad I wanted to like mine too. Best day I had was letting it go. Never had so much trouble from a lawn mower.
