This video turned up in my suggested so I watched. One time when I was young and even more confused, a guy a lot smarter than me traded me a halfbreed converted to have a detachable ring. No maker on bit, but was repaired with an Al teigen cross bar. Anyway, that was the only real bridal set up I had for years(Romal reins etc.) . Eventually the threads stripped out for the ring. I’m no hand with a bridal and I guess I never will be, but I will vouch for how good of a tool a ring bit is, and that it works in a different way than a lot of people first think.
Thank you for this! Excellent video, seen these ring bits a handful of times and always wondered exactly how they function
glad you liked it
Could you make some videos with horses so that we can see this kind of stuff in action? Great videos! I'm watching them all!
Bret, that was excellent! I have often wondered about ring bits and how/why they were used. BTW, if you ever put on a clinic, this ole lady wants to be on the list. Thank you!
Thank you for the compliment, glad to share any knowledge I can
Good info Bret. Ring bit was the next on my to build list until I started climbing under horses more than on top. Been hearing good things about your book. Keep it up
Thank you! let me know if you want some measurements
@@HorsemanshipAsAnArt Thanks! I'll get ahold of you through fb in the future on those measurements. I've been getting the itch to start another bridle prospect.
@@CrossRootedForge right on
Fabulous content! Great information.
thank you!
Awesome video
Im sure glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for the great explanation.
Do the loose rings for the purchase account for the 0 leverage?
What makes the 2 have negative leverage? Is it the fact that the rein to shank connection sits in front of the mouth piece? It was hard to tell watching on my phone
How does the ring bit work? Do you still use a curb/chin strap? Is it inserted into the mouth with the ring under the port & everything over the tongue?
yes the port and upper half of the ring in the mouth and the lower part of the ring under the jaw. The ring works as the curb sort of
Thanks, that clears up everything-I love your book!
@@SGTrainingStable Im glad to here that
Anyway you would sell one? Or know where to get some. I can only find broke ones.
I found these on eBay, fb and Capriolas. It takes a while of searching around but good ones do come up for sale.
SUPER!
Thank you!
Where can you buy that type of ring?
they are hard to find anymore, that one is prison made
Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. James 3:3
The only good bit is no bit at all. Advance your horsemanship to the next level.
Whatever's in your horses mouth you can't possibly beat really good hands and understanding
More like decrease your horsemanship haha no bits are for colts
