Should Catholics & Protestants Get Married? | Q&A | Ep 672
I'm a devout Catholic and my husband is a devout nondenominational. We'll be married 44 years this November. God has richly blessed our marriage and our 5 sons as well. Neither of us could imagine life without the other.

They might be carnal Christians or really immature, emotional and prideful Christians or spineless Christians. Dunno. I was one and no one ever called me out on it. Not sure how I would have responded.
No one is pro abortion. Its called pro choice. What they do with their bodies is between them and God. Theres much worse things happening like school shootings that you republicans are doing nothing about. And abortions will continue regardless of if they are illegal or legal.

You're spot on about the euthanasia subject. Here in Canada, this coercion of those who are very sick or "a drain on the system" is already happening. It's horrifying. There was also a gentleman who shared his story on Twitter that he actually heard the doctors and nurses talking about whether he was "worth saving." Imagine hearing your own health care providers talking about you in that way. People who don't have family members around to protect them are particularly vulnerable.
Some people choose euthanasia because they'd rather die with dignity. It's their choice and no one has the right to tell them they should be ok with dying a slow, painful death if that's what they want.
Short answer: marry who God tells you to marry. He has His reasons.
My story: raised Baptist. Met a Catholic boy and we knew immediately we would end up married. He had already tried other churches and made his way *solidly* back home to the Catholic Church by the time we met. So I had some decisions to make. I looked into other denominations myself. Lutheran, Episcopalian, Methodist… I always found a biblical issue. Finally, last stop, gave Catholicism and what’s ACTUALLY taught a look. I couldn’t argue. I came home to Rome and never looked back. It’s been such a blessing.

@@jackcarraway4707 why would it be? Even if He’s the one that brought us together, it would very much be our own failings if we split. God didn’t want that, He provides everything we need to love each other successfully. He’s about unity.
Congratulations Melissa. I am Catholic too. A GREATFUL CATHOLIC. So many Protestants don't have any idea what they are protesting. If they researched the true Catholic faith they would probably convert. The Eucharist is A MIRACLE. Theology of the body is incredible. But I admit , we have a bad Pope now. But Pope's come and go. There are good ones and bad ones. God is in charge and we accept our journey. I think our bad Pope is a chastisement. We need to pray our way through this difficult time in the CHURCH. Protestant CHURCH has problems too.

Yes , We both take the Jewish tradition and religion (pre-Christ) as our heritage.

· We both accept (except some fringes within Protestantism that many don’t even consider Christian, e.g. Jehovah's Witness) that Christ is the Son of God, and that he is both fully human and divine
· We both proclaim the Nicene Creed which is a proclamation of faith issued by the Council of Nicea in 325 AD
· We both accept the Virgin Birth
· We both accept that faith is essential for Salvation; without it, nothing else matters
· We both agree that the Bible is Holy Scripture and is thus Divinely Inspired (except Catholics have 8 additional books in the Old Testament called the Deuterocannonical books, or Wisdom books) The Orthodox have a few more books in the old Testament than both Catholic and Protestant. But all three (Catholic , Protestant , Orthodox) the new Testament is the same
· We both believe in Satan/Lucifer and Hell; a well as the history of the Fall of Lucifer and his followers
· We both believe (usually) in Original Sin/the Fall of Man
· We both believe in the Resurrection of Jesus, and that it was essential
· We both believe in the vast majority of Christian ethics and moral teachings

My parents are Protestant and Catholic. My mom was raised Lutheran and my dad Catholic. My dad is VERY religious and I don't think my mom was ever particularly attached to Lutheranism. We went to Catholic schools, got all the sacraments. My mom went to mass and she still does. She never converted though I think because of her respect of her culture. She was raised in the Latviab Lutheran church. Her parents were immigrants from Latvia and for Latvians the church is a cultural and social hub. The Latvian community in the US is very tight knit. I think it was also in respect of her parents, who were people of faith. I think she definitely identifies with Catholocism though.

A staunch Roman Catholic who is strong in the RCC beliefs and teachings could never come to terms with the true Christian Gospel.
How does a born again believer come to terms with these RCC teachings ?

2) MARIAN dogmas and apparitions .

4)Praying the Rosary
5) Prayers to saints .....on and on ....

@@Yesica1993 Ofcourse, people do get attracted. This is why discernment is needed in such a situation. It's tough in such a case because people will find the so called common ground , but minimize the flashing red lights !!!.

I think there’s a lot of fundamental misunderstanding and incorrect assumptions about Catholic beliefs. Even by current and former Catholics. I was raised Catholic and was terribly catechized as a child. After coming to Christ in a Protestant church as an adult I have returned to my Catholic faith with a fresh and new perspective. And trust me, I would have laughed even 2 years ago if someone would have said Catholics can be on fire for God. I highly recommend checking out former Protestant apologists like Jimmy Akin and Steve Ray.

@@redeemedzoomer6053 The infant does NOT make the choice, repentance is required. A change of one's mind is required for repentence. Read John 3, one must be born again in spirit to come into the kingdom of heaven. Wetting the baby's forehead is not the same as being born again.

I am Catholic. There are many people,that I know, in my church that vote Democrat. I am not one of them. I do not understand how you can be a true Catholic,which they claim to be, and put people into office that do not follow Catholic Theology.

I would leave it to the Holy Spirit to take care of the marriage between a Catholic and a Protestant bc we are the ones who have created those differences and it would be wise to ask the Holy Spirit to do what is right. Yep!!! I am a returned Catholic who married a Protestant when I was Protestant. We both 100% knew we were supposed to be together, and our slightly different beliefs only sharpened one another.

The word tells us to not be unequally yolked. Now, there may be instances, such as God did with Hosea, to marry a prostitute, and endure and love her, where the Holy Spirit is telling you to marry a particular person. However, the overall teaching is to not be unequally yolked. Everything is definitely harder when we are unequally yolked.

It's a serious issue because one teaches the true biblical saving gospel and the other teaches a false works based salvation.

It is wrong to unite in error just for the sake of unity. Lovingly stand firm in grace alone by faith alone regardless of how unpopular it may be to others. A unity based on falsehoods is no unity at all.
Holy cow, my husband and I just went through a very similar situation considering moving out of state for a career change. I was VERY resistant at first but God helped me come to the same conclusion. Wish you had made this video sooner, we could have avoided some strife for sure! Husbands - especially God-fearing husbands - are for leading!

Staying within your tribe has enough issues, going outside of y'all's tribe is just asking for more. And when it comes to organize religion there are too many issues in all of them. When you start out in a marriage it should be a union in the same faith above all else, if there's a belief at all, heathens get married as well. With a little bit of luck maybe they'll find God together. 🤔

Jesus will be able to talk to all of us in His Kingdom, the same as He does now in this life. Right now in this world, every single person alive on this planet, can talk to Him all at once, at the same time, and He can hear each person in real time.
There isn't a lot I would change about my upbringing, except, maybe, I wish my dad hadn't gone Word of Faith - it divided my family, and got us involved with false doctrines. The good thing about that was I later got grounded in solid Bible teaching as a result.
My best friend is saved Catholic. His Protestant wife converted. I am very close with their family and 3 kids. Why should you not marry a Catholic? Because you love your future kids and shudder to think of them spending eternity separated from God. Catholics who trust in Christ are saved. However, that is no guarantee your children will hear the Gospel and respond. There is no guarantee in Protestant environment, however, the emphasis on Bible, expounding on the Gospel as opposed to traditions, formalities and 5 minute homilies, creates the ENVIRONMENT where the Holy Spirit can do His work. Not to mention,1 Cor 6"do not be unequally yoked", is Paul warning that you need to think of the long term consequences of your choice. I love the kids but do not think they have been born again, a term foreign to the Catholic experience. Catholics are taught they are saved by works, Eucharist and being Catholic."not of works, so no one can boast".
Gosh, euthanasia is rough. Having watch more than one person go thru the miserable process if death gives me pause. I am not as willing to stand arrogantly and not acknowledge that their suffering was not significant and making them suffer it...when it was my parents...man that was tough.
While I absolutely agree that a marriage between a Catholic and a Protestant would be challenging, every Protestant denomination believe in different things. Most Protestant denominations think abortion is ok. They think divorce and re-marriage is ok. Or sex outside of marriage is ok. I think most don’t follow Christian teaching. So there you go.

there are certainly a lot of people who say that they are Christians, but not all who say they are Christians are truly Christians. Roman Catholicism on the other hand preaches a false gospel which cannot save anybody, protestants believe that Scripture alone is authoritative for the faith and practice of the Christian. and so, a persons actions should be judged according to what the Bible says.
No they don't. Those are what you'd call "Christian in name only". The Bible does not teach that those things are ok. Also there's plenty of nominal Catholics who believe in things contradictory to the Bible as well lol just look at our President and Speaker of the House. 😂
I disagree! Christians within certain groups think that’s okay but not the denominations except Methodist which is splitting because some think being in alphabet community is okay and the other half says no way. The Bible should have the final say. No denomination including the Catholics have everything right. I’m sure I don’t have everything right either.
No truly born again believer would desire to marry a Catholic. The Catholic (and Orthodox) church rejects justification by faith alone in Christ alone, the heart and soul of Christianity. You cannot be a Christian and reject this.
As a street evangelist, I have spoken with thousands of Catholics, including priests, nuns and Catholic seminary students. Without fail, every one of them rejects the idea that they can have absolute assurance of salvation. Why is that? Because the Catholic church teaches salvation is by infused righteousness, the concept that man is justified by faith plus cooperating with God's grace that is infused into the sinner at water baptism. It is the idea that salvation is a process and man is "made righteous" and must face final justification at the end of their lives. Therefore, it is impossible for a good Catholic to know if they will make it to heaven because it depends on whether they die in a state of grace apart from mortal sin. In the final analysis, their salvation is ultimately up to their efforts.
Biblically, salvation is by imputed righteousness, the concept that when a sinner repents and believes the Gospel, the very righteousness of Christ is credited to their account and they are "declared righteous" and are permanently in right standing with God from that point onward through eternity. They are saved not based on their cooperation with God to remain in a state of grace or keep themselves justified, but rather because God now looks at them as forgiven and having lived the perfect life Christ did because of Christ's righteousness having been applied to them.
The greatest news of the Gospel is that when a sinner repents and believes, he is just as righteous in God's sight from that moment onward throughout eternity. He declares them to be just before they actually are just.

"By one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified." ~Heb. 10:14
@@daviddavenport9350 Works are merely evidence of the sinner having been regenerated by God and saved. They are not a "prerequisite" of salvation.
Those who have been regenerated by God are new creations (2 Cor. 5:17) and will live entirely different than they did previously. They will follow Christ just as they were intended to in the same way as birds naturally fly to fulfill their original purpose because they have been given the Holy Spirit as a guarantor of their salvation (Eph. 1:13-14).
If someone claims to be a believer but their life is not radically different than it was before, it is likely they were never born again and are still dead in their sins.
It is quite simple. But the problem is Catholics do not understand what happens at regeneration.
No where in the Bible does it say that one can be saved by faith alone. The book of James contradict you.
@@jeremyzitzow4417 Yeah works are the evidence that has been a change. Did you ever read Christ's parable of the Last judgment when he condemns one group for not doing good works. Apparently they had belief in Christ because they were surprised.
@@blackbette07 Many will die thinking they have trusted in Christ by faith but in reality they never did because their fruits demonstrate they never believed (Matt. 7:21-24, 1 John 2:19). Note how Christ says in Matt. 7 that He never knew them. Meaning He never considered them to be saved.
This does not negate the fact that the only way man is justified before a holy God is by faith alone. Works have nothing to do with justification. Again, Catholics do not understand the power of God in regeneration. All who are regenerated by God will bear much fruit and prove to be His disciples (John 15:8).
FYI: there are Protestants who believe In infant baptism.
Loads of them in my country! Most of them actually. All the baby baptizers were safe to stay in Europe because they weren’t persecuted. The people that started baptizing over were the ones that had to run for their lives because of persecution.

@@paulan7218 infant baptism or it’s prohibition is not specified in the Bible, but given in the Bible whole households were baptized, it’s a pretty logical inference, and I know that at least Presbyterians don’t believe infant baptism saves, they believe it’s a sign of the new covenant as circumcision was to the old covenant.
It really depends on how important the couple's version of Christianity is to them. We live in mostly irreligious times and for most people this religious difference would present no problem. Many want to practice a minimalistic Christianity (Christmases, Easters, weddings and funerals) and for these people the denomination is not important, and I would recommend selecting a church like the Episcopal church that has the forms of Catholicism but is filled with liberals who are only nominally Christian. For those who are serious about practicing the Christian religion this will require a complete commitment to some church and for these people the religious difference will be a constant source of unhappiness. However, it is unlikely that devout people, knowing this, will look outside of their denomination for spouses.

Most theologically reformed protestants do, it's just the reformed baptists who only hold to reformed soteriology (the points of Calvinism) and nothing else (theologically) reformed, usually think this (not all reformed baptists, more so the ones who hold to dispensationalism and not covenant theology). Surprisingly they have such a large voice though , haha.

What is one passage in Scripture that specifically gives us an example of someone not old enough to believe and decide for themselves being baptized? I don't need the name of the person, just a clear example.
Catholic here. I married a Lutheran. It was a long road, but she is now reformed. Both her and the kids have been confirmed, and we are now a unified family. Would I do it again, absolutely. But it was one stinker of a bumpy road.

I think you’re oversimplifying Protestant beliefs. There are definitely some Protestants where that would be true. For example, a full blown Tulip Calvinist would probably not yoke well with a Catholic. Then again, a Presbyterian might not be equally yoked with a Oneness Pentecostal. One could argue that that they may have less in common than the Presbyterian and a Catholic.
In general though, it would very much depend on the theology of the Protestant.
The One Holy Catholic and apostolic church is the original church. As you should already know, Catholic means "universal" Christ's universal church for everyone everywhere. The church Christ established which had stood for over (1,500 years) before Luther broke away and created his own man made protestant church, a movement which ultimately led to all of the denominations we see today preaching dangerous "Once saved always saved" and calvinist theology, all merely 400+ years ago while also removing 7 books from the Old Testament. Books that weren't even officially removed from the KJV until 1885. He even wanted to remove the book of Hebrews, James, and Revelation.
The Catholic church has stood for 2,000 years, going back to Saint Peter and Christ. Saint Peter is buried at St Peter's Basilica. No other church has taken more persecution. The East broke away from it. The Nicene creed, the apostles creed, the one holy Catholic church was it. Read about the catacombs and the earliest Christians and what the church looked like. Read books on Ignatius of Antioch. Yes, there have been some bad popes, but the church has and will always correct itself and overcome for the gates of Hell will never prevail against it. Nore did some of the evil kings of Isreal bring down Israel after king David. An apostolic secession of kings that were ordained by God in the first Testament, each king may not have been approved of, but the secession was. It's no different now. There has been an unbroken chain of succession going back to Saint Peter.
The church is both spiritual and physical. Whatever is bound on earth will be bound in heaven, and it's the Church's authority to interpret the scripture so everyone in the body isn't confused. We're to worship with one and other and take Eucharist or communion in His memory as we're commanded to.

Works come from the Holy Spirit. Again, the Catholic church follows scripture.

I'm Catholic and my wife is Anglican. We both have a deep faith in Christ so that's all that's needed. Beyond that, we respect each other's faiths although she did agree that our kids could be brought up Catholic as that is more important in our faith - not so important in hers and she was fine with that. We have one deeply Catholic adult child and one not quite so.... at this point!

I like the general vibe of your answers, Allie, tho' as one who spent my high school years overseas in the Seventies, I have to say that the experience forever made me not need the largess of the American lifestyle, no knock on it, just that I think one learns that biggee everything is not a necessity. It was just great, as I reflect, that young Germans in the Seventies were making the most of what they were allowed and could afford by getting around on their mopeds, motorized bicycles. And mopeds were everywhere and it was amazing to me, a teen from California. But yeah, dudes on old smokey mopeds were fun to try to catch and always with a cheery "Tag" for Guten Tag from me. And I was often content just to ride in their draft, no overtake necessary. And the young ladies on their shiny new ones rode at a pretty good clip, like Audrey on her Vespa in Rome. And funny, but these days, Honda is bringing back the little Dax, which as a 50cc motorcycle we military dependents were allowed to ride on the street at age 15 back then and I bought one with my after-school money from my job at the commissary. And now I'm thinking, wow, it'd be fun to get around on a new one--more powerful--and ride it like I did in Frankfurt all those years ago. And even as I say all of that, I'm off to mail a letter to a German friend who still lives in Frankfurt. It is still a small world, after all.

Catholic here. Catholic + Protestant in a marriage 💑 = unequal yoke. The Catholic Church discourages this BUT permits it. Yet, annulment 💔 of such a marriage is possible. If the Protestant was not baptized in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, then, such a marriage is permitted to go under annulment if either partner wants it.
For such a marriage to be sacramental in The Catholic Church ⛪, 1 the location must be in a Catholic Church 2 must feature a priest 3 the Protestant must agree to raise children , if any, as Catholic. Exceptions on 1 and 2 happen if the local bishop approves. The marriage 💑 is sacramental via the Catholic partner.

When God says do not be unequally yoked, I believe He is referring to one's faith, that your faith must be greater than the unbelievers, lest the unbeliever convert you away from the True faith. Biblically speaking, the true “mother church” is the church that is described in the book of Acts and the New Testament epistles. In the biblical mother church, you will find no mention of priests, cardinals, or popes. Nowhere will you find Mary being adored or saints being venerated. In the biblical descriptions of the true mother church, there are no references to purgatory or elements of the Lord’s Supper being transformed into the body and blood of Jesus. So, very clearly no, the Catholic Church is not the mother church.

I think it is discouraged because it's hard to raise a family when parents don't agree on the fundamentals. like contraception, abortion, the importance of the eucharist, confession, the indissolubility of marriage, obligation to attend mass on Sunday, the Authority of the Church (where is that in the Bible). What about different Protestant denominations marrying each other? I find there are quite a few distinctions between Protestants. They are not all the same. So why only focus on Catholics and Protestants (as if all Protestants are the same)? And not all Catholics are the same either! Traditional Catholics vs. Charismatic Catholics, for example. Totally different, they would probably have more arguments with each other than if one married an Greek Orthodox and the other an Anglican.

Besides the obvious or what should be obvious doctrinal differences betwixt the two which causes or can cause divisiveness and confusion between spouses and especially children to consider, I think people ask this type of question for too much of other human beings and not enough in prayer to God because God does work in ways we do not expect and had plans at times for the people who share in faith but need to truly know Him, or if the two are already spouses and got married prior to such becoming an issue in their marriage, thst too needs addressing and needs the spouses to pray on matters. The Bible is clear on the topic of unity and bond.
Catholics view Marriage as a sacrament instituted by Christ, and therefore to receive that sacrament, the couple needs to be properly disposed (this entails agreeing to raise kids Catholic, and agreement to practice chastity in marriage ie. not separating sex and our sexual organs from their natural end: the rearing of children).
The Catholic Church will recognize Protestants’ marriages as valid (meaning they recognize that they are married in the eyes of God), but firmly teaches these are not sacramental marriages, and these couples are therefore depriving themselves of everyday graces that God seeks to distribute through His Church and the Sacraments. That’s not to say God does not grace a Protestant’s marriage; it is to say that these Protestants are essentially spiritual orphans, who attempt to practice faith in Christ honestly, but are left without guidance or leadership by those ordained by God to be their spiritual mothers and fathers (nuns and priests), and therefore do not practice Christianity fully, as they are cut off from Christ’s Church.
People who make it to Heaven will just be happy they made it there. They won't be looking at a clock. Some people simply have no concept of the word "eternal". Put it this way, there will not be a two minute warning in Heaven. God will have time for all there. He has time for us now.

Also Catholicism does not encourage the reading of the Bible. That is why is is near impossible to know the true gospel if you are not reading it.
