My husband and I are “open womb” people lol! We are just Christians, not Catholics.
We don’t believe in preventing or trying, we just love freely! We have had three children, and hope for more ◡̈ babies are blessings!
One thing that is also really eye opening about this lifestyle is that you could have 20 kids or 0 kids and still be “open womb”. The whole point is surrendering your fertility, timing, and duration of growing your family to God.
It has personally shown our family that God will provide for all of the needs of your children and you and your spouse. Despite being very low income for the first 5/6 years of marriage, we always had enough, and honestly more than we need.
One of my husband’s fav verses:
“But there are some things that you cannot be sure of. You must take a chance. If you wait for perfect weather, you will never plant your seeds. If you are afraid that every cloud will bring rain, you will never harvest your crops.”
    ‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭11‬:‭4‬ ‭

I think if you're open to having as many kids as you can that's just great for you, you love kids, you're having a great time, you're probably young. But I don't think this belief should be placed onto others (not saying you are just speaking generally). For example I'm 41, I have 4 children, and I'm done. The thought of another pregnancy and going back to that new born phase is terrifying to me. I don't want to take the risk of having another child at my age when I already have 4 children and am really really struggling to keep my head above water as it is. God has given me the ability to choose whether or not to have more children to a certain degree, so I'm choosing not to have more.

Hey AllieBeth, I know you're well-known for doing "deep dives" into movements that claim Biblically sound doctrines. I'd really love to see you do one specifically on the "quiverfull" and "open womb" movements. It's very important to understand why these movements started, and the severe misconstrued intreprations of scripture within. Speaking as someone with degree in Theology & Biblical Studies. My main area of study was on legalistic abuse of scripture within the church. I took special interest in areas of families/mothers.
Now, here is my soap box:
These are not new movements, and have been taught to the church for decades (based off misconstrued scripture and influence of the Catholic church). I can give many specific examples. I'll note at the end of this comment.
I'm a "product" of these movements, (the youngest of 9 here) I've witnessed these bad doctrines destroy mothers and children. I can list a dozen names of mothers I PERSONALLY know who abandoned their families of 7+ children (and some of them even turning from Christ altogether) due to mental, emotional, and physical health deterioration. Mothers that ended up commiting suicide, or mental hospitals/straight jackets due to severe ongoing postpartum depression. Mothers that became unable to care, nurture, educate, or even give regular eye-contact to their younger children. These mothers were good women, just depeleted beyond functioning, unable to thrive as mothers (Some of them had tyrannical, abusive, and legalistic husbands. Some had good, loving and responsive husbands. I witnessed more negative than positives. But I don't see each of those mothers/childrens lives fully, only God does. I can only go off what I witnessed, studied, and worked with in 13 years of children/teens/college age ministry)
I witnessed the "parentification" of older siblings to take responsibility they were never meant to have, to "raise" their younger siblings... which caused their sibling relationship to be highly dysfunctional for the rest of their adulthood. It affected their marriages in how they operated with their spouses. I witnessing them face severe issues when they became parents themselves, due to a lack of a healthy role model, being unwanted children, or their mothers "giving up" long before they were born. That is taken directly into later life, psychologically. (Now if the mother was heavily supported by grandparents or other family, that often turned the tide significantly)
I've witnessed even witnessed these mothers in later years. For some of the mothers that were in "better situations" they were still theologically unprepared for pre-menopause... I know multiple women that were totally unprepared for multiple miscarriages in their 40's. But had already built their identity around the "open womb" teachings.
I have more than one example, but I remember working with a 50 yr old woman, who had 12 children. This woman had 13-17 miscarriages in the span of 5 years... this caused her body to deteriorate heavily, her mental state barely sustainable, her spiritual state a wreck. Her reproductive system literally prolapsing out of her body, chronic fatiuge, digestive disfunction, severe inflammation issues from the stress & hormone fluxes, had gained 180 lbs, ect ect. Her ignorant husband just kept telling her the Lord "would allow which baby should live, and take the others to heaven" Or, "Abraham and Sarah had a baby in their old age" I could have strangled him... total disregard for the disenergration of his wife's body, mental health, and spiritual health. (Also, a total misconstrued application of scripture). He was not fulfilling his Biblical role of ensuring his wife was flourishing. He just got s*x whenever he wanted, how he wanted.. he wasn't a bad man, he was just brainwashed by bad doctrine. Each miscarriage she had, her body was in an even worse state. When I worked with her, she could no longer carry a baby past 8 weeks. I was able to guide her through scripture for this topic, show her what was happening for her body, and a book on natural family planning. I told her what to discuss with her husband. 10 months later, she had dropped 115lbs, was in excellent health, had tons more energy for her young children and first grandchild. Her mental and spiritual state was shockingly better. All because no more miscarriages, they started family planning and let her body finish menopause. She actually began having a significantly better relationship with her husband & children too!
(Note from earlier: Gen 38:9-11. The catholic church taught he was killed for "preventing life" and influenced the Chrisitan church. This createdba major root for both bad doctrines. But by context as a whole, and the Jewish cultural context, he was killed for refusing to uphold responsibilities to his dead brother via levirate marriage. It wasn't the specifically the act of "birth control" he was killed for, it was for disobeying Gods command and dishonoring Jewish custom/law. But it's easy to twist this scrupture to blame "birth control" exclusively to appear as the only offense to God. This simply is NOT true. These a ton of other examples like this, where scripture is taken out of context.
We also have to note, rhe men of scripture that had 8+ children were equivalent to multi millionaires for their time. They often had more than one wife AND dozens of servants to care for the children. They could provide for, feed, and protect their numerous children. Many other men in scripture had few or even no children. Jospeh only had 2 children, was he any less favored, blessed, or loved by God for it? No. But those examples are conviently forgotten about.
Proverbs is where much of these doctrines pull from, but it is a book of "wisdom & disciplines" NOT Biblical commandments.
As Christ followers, we to follow commands in the Old Testament IF they are repeated by Jesus in the New Testament. Jesus does NOT say to "be fruitful and multiply" he commands to "go out and make disciplines". We see this displayed directly in the lives of his 12 Disciples, most are recorded to have only 1-3 children, some remained unmarried.)
I'm not anti-big family, there are a FEW families I saw do big families well... But it seriously peeves be that both "open womb" and "quiverfull" movements imply that you are more spiritual, more faithful to God the more children you have. The implication is you'l should be "more respected" by the church, and if you have a small family you are "less than" (tell that to women with multiple miscarriages, who wanted more kids). I've watched this play out to create highly legalistic & spiritually, emotionally, and physiologically abusive scenarios within the church & famlies. Treating children as means to boost ones own ego, and treating their wives like a "breeder" slave... I'm not even exaggerating. That is unbiblical. That is no better than how pagan religions allow their wives to be treated. That is a direct representation of the Curse from the Fall of Adam and Eve.

Allie, I am utterly disappointed in your comments regarding DACA. It is evident from your comments that you know very little about the issue or have a very narrow-minded perspective on it. I am a DACA recipient, and here's my story. My mother came to the United States after my father abandoned her, my brother, and me. The home in which she was staying was abusive and toxic, so she fled with my brother, who was two years old at the time, and I was six months old. She came to the United States hoping to provide for and protect her children. Once here, she worked long days and nights without ever having to apply for food stamps or government assistance. She always told me, "I came here seeking an opportunity, not to become someone else's charity case." Growing up, I did not go to dentist appointments, doctor visits, or annual exams. We did not have health insurance, nor could we afford it.
Despite all these hardships, my mother's top priority was ensuring my brother and I did well in school, had enough food and a roof over our heads. I'm 24 years old now, and have known no other home other than my hometown in Kansas City. I went to college, graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, and am going back to school for my Master's in the spring. My brother decided not to go to College but instead, went to Barber school, got his license, and is self-employed. I'm aware not every DACA recipient's situation is the same as mine. However, that is exactly my point. The particular example you shared does not speak to situations like mine. I also believe you showed no empathy for people like me. I had no say in the matter. I was simply brought here, but I am so grateful that I was.
Allie, I'm not saying not to talk about this issue. There are a lot of problems currently with it. However, it's not as black and white as you paint it to be. And it's completely misleading of you to discuss a topic with very little knowledge to your large audience.
Tell me, honestly, that you would not leave a corrupt country, an abusive household, travel across dry land and across rivers if that meant you had a chance to provide a better life for your children? If, after reading this, your opinion has not changed, then tell me honestly, where would you like me to go? Where should I call home?

I grew up in a country where my family always followed the immigration laws. I was never without a visa and alien residence permit. That country still never provided me with a pathway to citizenship. Even to obtain permanent residence there I would have to leave as an adult and come back for a job that would employ me as a non-citizen. Is it unjust of that country to not give me a way to become a citizen even though I never chose to be born there and spend all my life growing up there? Maybe, but it's how countries all around the world run things. I recognize it's the law and that order is necessary for fairness to exist. I'd like to see that country allow people like me who grew up there and always followed the immigration laws to become citizens, but I also recognize that not following the law in that area would never help my case. Some countries like the US are much more flexible and generous than others in that area, and in some ways the DACA situation is a result of the US' flexibility there and failure to uphold fair order all over again after the amnesty under Reagan. Whatever the solution, I think we do need to make sure that order exists for fairness and that laws are meant to uphold order for that reason. Bypassing or undermining the law is not the solution.

I’m glad your mom escaped that situation, and I’m glad you are a productive member of our country. However you must understand that no country can withstand the onslaught of tens of millions of people moving here illegally, especially in a short period of time. There are big incentives which drive this migration, and DACA is just one of many of these incentives. The areas in my state with high migrant populations are socially and fiscally devastated; school systems and health systems overrun, property taxes out of control, American citizens pushed out of work, etc. I work in a hospital in a town with a very large migrant population, and we struggle financially to stay open because so many of the patients we treat can’t pay. And, perhaps the most troubling, the number of American citizens who are now alcoholics or drug addicted is staggering. These people’s jobs have either been shipped overseas or shifted to migrants. You have to understand that the large corporations and billionaires are taking advantage of this situation in order to benefit from cheap labor, rather than paying people livable wages. This cycle perpetuates the wealth gap in this country.

    • @heathermilford9667
      @heathermilford9667 2 місяці тому +5

If I’m hungry, it is still wrong to steal. My experience is my husband’s business struggling and being forced out of California because we can’t compete with the cheap labor from undocumented immigrants. Mind you they were HARD workers who did great work. But because they were paid under the table, they harm other hard working people. How did your mom work all of those years? If her employment was not through legal means, I guarantee it hurt other people. No one thinks about the other business who do things right and pay workman’s comp and payroll taxes and are constantly under bid. The issue is you feel your mom was completely justified in all of her actions and there is zero remorse. It is a messy situation because my compassionate heart wants to be generous to the children, but the kids don’t realize it’s the parents who put them in this cruel situation.

I must renew my application every two years and pay $600; I recognize I will always remain with a DACA status unless the law changes. I shared my story with Allie not to raise the question of what is fair and what isn't; my main goal was to lay out my particular situation that demonstrates this is not a black-and-white issue as she's painting it to be.

@@MFPWM2010 Trust me, I hear you. I agree with your point here. No country should simply ignore mass immigration. I recognize a country must enforce its laws to maintain a functioning society and to keep its citizens safe. My main goal in sharing my story is to bring a real-life scenario of a recipient of DACA to show that it's not as black and white as Allie states in her words here, "I don't like it. I think it's a whole horrible system that we have put in place. We're talking about 17-year-old boys. We're not talking about 3-year-old toddlers; we're talking about 17-year-old boys considered minors, and they get to come here and not get deported because of DACA. First of all, I think how it was decided and how it was implemented was completely unconstitutional, and I do not believe that any illegal alien should be allowed in the United States, I don't." (Allie Beth Stuckey 2024, time 19:24)
She's wrong in saying: "they get to come here and not get deported." Someone who does not know the requirements of DACA might interpret that as saying, a 17-year-old boy from Mexico or anywhere else can come to the US, apply for DACA, and avoid deportation when that is not the case at all. Here are the requirements for DACA:
a.) You must have been under the age of 31 on June 15, 2012 (which is when the program first started.)
b.) You must have entered the country before your 16th birthday.
c.) Must have lived continuously in the United States from June 15, 2007, up until the current present time. You have to prove your physical presence.
d.) Have completed high school or a GED, have been honorably discharged from the armed forces, or are enrolled in school.
e.) Have not been convicted of a felony or a serious misdemeanor and do not otherwise pose a threat to national security or public safety.
The majority of us DACA recipients were brought here by our parents; the US is the only home we've ever known. I'm open to discussing why a country must have laws on immigration. That's great and all, but let's also have the difficult conversation that this affects individuals like me; individuals who have built their whole lives here. I don't appreciate that Allie dehumanizes DACA recipients. That's not Christ-like at all, if she wants to have a true discussion on her podcast, she must get informed or bring someone with background and experience on the topic.

This way, those U.S. citizens that rent their homes will have a say with their vote. So here is my take on birth control as a 30 year old mom who has four kids five and under: during my last c section with my now 9 month old son, I got a tubal ligation done. It was something that my husband and I prayerfully considered and felt was the right choice for our family. I’ve been pregnant and breastfeeding non stop for 6 years now and my OB told me that he is concerned about potentially doing a fifth c section on me, especially because we have babies so close together. This was an emotional decision for me because I love being pregnant, I love babies, I love my children. But we’re okay with being done and I don’t think that we have sinned in our decision. So this issue is not black and white. I think choosing to limit the number of children you have is a matter of conscience in the liberty of the believer and it depends person to person.

Let me just say there are alot of dysfunctional families there and most people have some sort of attachment disorder. It is very difficult for a mother who is perpetually pregnant to meet the needs of the child. She may love them all the same but from my own experience, the parents can not fully take care of all the emotional and spiritual needs of the child. Many of these people are not actually choosing this lifestyle, it's being chosen for them so they are not intentional about raising their kids. My husband and I left that church a long time ago but I always laugh when people who have no experience at all of living in a family of an "open womb" think it's just fine and dandy.

The ideal situation is for the wife to prioritize caring for the home and the children over a job or career outside the home. If she does not want to stay at home, there is a reason for that, and she should ask herself what that reason is. Sometimes, there is economic stress where the wife may temporarily work a job to help financially, which is unfortunate but a common situation. However, if the wife wants to prioritize a long-term career because she wants to prove that she "can do anything a man can do" and "does not need a man" then her desire is coming from a place of arrogance, and she needs to change her heart.

There are different meanings for “head” in the koine Greek. In Koine Greek, the language of the New Testament, the word kephalē (“head”) also has metaphorical meanings; however “a person in authority over others” is not usually one of them. Nevertheless, many Christians have assumed that the Greek word kephalē refers to authority in the New Testament. Paul’s main point in the passage where this verse comes from (Col. 1:15-18) is to show that Jesus is the creator, origin, and beginning of everything in the universe. This includes Jesus being the “author” of the Church. Paul used the word kephalē (head) in this context-the context of origin and beginning or, as some say, “source.”[1] One compelling piece of evidence that kephalē did not usually refer to authority in first-century Koine Greek (or in Greek of previous centuries), is that LSJ’s lexicon, one of the most exhaustive lexicons of Ancient Greek, does not include any definition of kephalē that approximates “leader” or “person in authority.” [The entire LSJ entry on kephalē is here.]
I can’t take credit for another’s work this is Marg Mowzcko and scholar who studies all women’s issues in scripture, who speaks and reads Greek and can read the Septuagint, the main source for the Apostles.
God has given us all brains. He didn’t give men bigger or smarter brains. If God gave me a brain to use as he see fit, to learn, to make decisions, to judge then by all means it was meant to use in all these forms. He didn’t just give me a brain to eat, or wash clothes……so we are all made in his image and should reflect his intentions for us to carry out his example set for us by Christ. Like paying taxes as Jesus did, I’m sure the civic duty to vote is also in order. By using the intelligence and conviction he gives I will vote my own choice. For whomever I think will do a better job. I’m not American and not tied to a certain party in my country. So my vote fluctuates based on what the basis the party can give the country what it needs in that point of time.

Some Christian’s don’t want children or don’t see children as part of their life. There are other Christians who won’t find having children easy and don’t want to be upset trying if it doesn’t work out for them.
Some Christians can’t afford to have children due their work or finances. There are some Christians who have a medical condition or genetic condition which would impact the child and that’s another reason some people choose not to have children .
I also think churches should talk about it fostering or adopting more too. Please don’t get me wrong it’s lonely and exciting when peope have children but not all Christian couples will have children.

You also didn’t really answer the question should women submit to voting the way their husbands vote. You said “one vote per family,” but that doesn’t answer the question. Personally, I don’t think it’s a biblical matter at all and while wives should submit to their husbands, voting should certainly be a personal choice. Submission can be taken to a silly extreme and voting choice is definitely that extreme. Should we also only listen to the music our husbands listen to or do only the hobbies our husbands like? Some things the Bible just doesn’t speak to and taking a biblical matter like submission to such an extreme can border on cultish. Love your show

Very careful about the submitting to your husband about staying home. It could have good intentions and he wants her to stay home to care for the kids instead of a daycare and he is ready to bare the burden of sole financial responsibility. That’s one possibility. But there are also evil men who want their wives to stay home so that they can have financial control over them and forcibly keep them in an abusive situation. Please be careful with your words. You can be using God to make a woman believe that she needs to stay in an abusive relationship. That is not Godly.
Also, your statement about hormonal birth control is scientifically flawed. Hormonal birth control prevents ovulation from occurring and also thickens the cervix to prevent sperm from passing through. If taken as directed there is no egg to fertilize. Now your statement is correct when speaking about the copper iud. However that is not hormonal birth control. That does prevent an embryo from implanting. But again that is non hormonal. Please make sure you fully understand the science before you influence many women on something that is inherently incorrect.

@@noelleleader6212 you don’t want that kind of people at church anyways, please read Romans 1 and see for yourself why they embrace that lifestyle and what God thinks about it

@@kamarwashington Kindness is. Love is. Peace is. Goodness is. Gentleness is. Is it any wonder that more Americans are eschewing Christianity when Christians are openly rationalizing away showing the same love to others that Christ shows to us? How can we both proclaim the transformative power of the Gospel and then refuse to transform how we treat others we disagree with? I weep for the non-believers who will read these types of comments and see their worst suspicions confirmed about what Christians are actually like. 😢

You are not a Christian when you pick and choose what you want to follow or not follow. Jesus said you love me by keeping my commandments! 2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is God breathed! That you must follow. Obediance is greater than sacrifice. King Saul found out the hard way
