  • Why would you want to seam pond underlayment? How do you do it?
This video clearly shows you the simplest method to seam pond underlayment using basic tools.
Here are the benefits of seaming pond underlayment.
    1. The underlayment is less likely to pull apart from each other when you lay liner.
    2. Less waste. You don't have to have high overlaps, 3 inches is plenty
    3. When working large projects, it's absolutely necessary.

Awesome! Even working on something “smaller” like 25”x30” or so this will help greatly with pieces tugging and blowing apart from each other! Thanks Carl

I'm glad you talked about why to do this, because that's the first question I had. Haha. What type of liner are you using on this project? Can you get a 1 acre sized piece of EPDM? How much would that weigh? Imagine you're using something that can be heat welded?

Great tips on underpayment. I have a question on preparing a large liner to go in the pond. I see guys rolling out the liner and then remolding it/rolling it and then with an excavator carrying it into the pond then unfolding it. I know there is a specific method that I don’t understand. Help please.

I'm in the process of building a pond. Is it a mistake to use carpet as a under layment? The reason I'm doing it is because I had to dig into the side of a steep hill and the dirt is really loose there was no clay until 4 feet down. So I hope it will help with holding the sides in place.

Carpet may contain sharp objects. If you use carpet, make sure it is free of debris

@@ColumbiaWaterGardens now that's just common sense. I was wondering if it could be toxic to fish, but thanks for the reply.

@ranjanty you plan on putting it under the liner as underlayment, right? I definitely don't recommend on top

@@ColumbiaWaterGardens yes it's under the liner.

@ranjanty then you're good to go. Just be on the lookout for sharp objects and you should be fine.
