I just had a litter of 9 i have a tri merle stud and a black female. They produced 7 merle pups. Some are oreo merles looking some are chocolate merles . Two solid color pups( black) (fawn) . If i kept one of the solid colors and mate it with merle father would that be a issue health wise?
Thank you for this video. I have a poodle puppy with a Father who is Merle with a blue Merle coat with single Merle gene with genetic testing and a mother with a Parti coat but with no genetic testing. Their litter of 8 pups produced no Merle coats but with variations of the mother’s parti coat with different levels of dark brown patches. My pup has heterochromia with one eye blue and the other darker grey. I understand that as long as it has the lighter eyes it is a Merle which is fine with me. I just don’t want a double Merle with all the health issues. It does not seem to have any hearing or vision problems. The genetic testing will only come back in 5 weeks. Any chance you can let me know the chances of it being double Merle?
Thank you. I have a pup that was sold to me as an "isabella merle" no dna to back it up. However, he has 2 colors with the white background which per your description would be a tweed . I'll find out soon for sure, I have a dna collection kit on its way

So if I mix a female Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog with a male American bully then use they merle pup for another breeding with a American bully & use they merle pup again for a breeding with a American bully . aka doing 3 breedings will I be able to claim I have legit merle bully’s ?
What happens if you breed a double merle to non merle? What would the babies be and would they be healthy? Maybe you could make a short video to explain thanks
All will have a single merle gene so all will be healthy Merle’s. But it’s not ethical to produce double Merle’s and risk their health in order to breed them.
Merle is an incomplete dominant so is represented using an uppercase letter of M. Lowercase "m" represents non-merle. This is very standard information that you have incorrect.
M is Merle m is non- merle. This is very standard information that he is getting wrong. D locus and M locus are not the same as the example you are giving. Dilute is recessive and requires a dog to be d/d in order to be dilute. The merle pattern is dominant and represented by M not m/m as he keeps claiming in the video.
some merles have red eye glow due to being cocoa or brown and SOME merles will have red eye glow if the merle has crossed into the eye....usually the dog will have blue or green/yellow eyes from the merle crossing into the eye and diluting the pigment. pied dogs can have blue eyes and red eye glow simply because the pigment deletion of white has crossed into the eye causing dilution of the eye color. blue eyes, green eyes, yellow eyes, will cause red eye glow.
@sonnguyen-wo4vq what colors are of the dogs' eyes? they need 2 copies of Cocoa or 2 copies of Brown/choco to have red eye glow. if the dog is bb or has 2 copies of Cocoa then the dog should have light colored eyes and this will cause the eyes to glow red. also, a dog who is merle will have red eye glow ONLY if the merle has crossed into the eye. not all merle dogs have red eye glow- this is because the merling has not crossed/touched the dogs eye or eyes or in other words, the dogs merle gene did not travel into the eye or eyes
Harlequin(H)is a merle modifier located on the H locus and only found in great Danes and great dane crosses. HARLEQUIN MERLE (Mh)is a type of merle on the M locus. Harlequin and HARLEQUIN MERLE are different genes. Frenchies do not have Harlequin(H) but they do have Harlequin Merle(Mh) and it is not called merle harlequin. it's called HARLEQUIN MERLE. A capital M means the dog is positive for 1 copy of merle. the lower case m means the dog is NEGATIVE for one copy of merle. Two capitals mean MM the dog has TWO copies of merle. One capital M and one lower case m Mm means the dog has 1 copy of merle and 1 copy of non merle. Two lower case mm means the dog has ZERO copies of merle. I am just a few mins into this video and have already found incorrect information on the Merle(M) locus so I don't think I will be watching any farther into the video

Not an issue with the merle. But we never breed children to parents. You are taking a risk because of lack of dna diversity

No sorry you need dna results
which dna testing organization will give you the merle number? i contacted animal genetic s and they said they don't provide the number?
UC Davis for sure
I have cyptic merle
If you have a tweed with 2 colors on a white background, what color do you call it?
Harlequin tweed

I am confuse too. I thought it was the blue coat, but i read it's a pattern.
Yes merle is independent of color
Will you add Merle test to a puppy DNA even if it is classic Merle?
No I wouldn’t
Merle is an incomplete dominant so is represented using an uppercase letter of M.
Lowercase "m" represents non-merle.
This is very standard information that you have incorrect.
The excepted convention is lower case for recessive genes
Mm merle
MM not merle etc
@@LoveMyPups he is saying that MM is non-merle in the video.
Correct just like DD not blue
Dd carrier
dd blue
M is Merle
m is non- merle.
This is very standard information that he is getting wrong.

👍
What kind of merle is a Koi considered?
I think it would be when merle x merle
I always thought it was Mm. The "M" was capitalized because it's a dominant gene.
By convention it lower case if present
Yup the video is incorrect.
I got two merles (frenchies) , doesn't have red eyes glow w flash on :).
Needs to be a video in a dark room with camera light on

I believe our dog is an atypical merele. She only has a few patches of spotting otherwise looks like a fawn. The spotting is not over her entire body.
