Hard to put into words how much this group changed my life. They opened for my group Gigolo Aunts at the Rat in Boston in 1988 and I had never even considered "country" music. The harmonies, the songs and especially the guitar playing knocked me on my ass. I made a point to catch them every time they came through town after that. I've never been one to learn other people's licks, but I think I can still play almost all of Hollywood Townhall note for note. Gary was my gateway into country picking. Still one of my favorites. Rainy Day Music is another one of my all-time favorite records. Thanks for many years of great music!
I can remember my brother giving me a mixed cassette of Gigolo Aunts, Archers of Loaf and Ass Ponys in about 96 or 97. Thanks to you and yours as well!
Once they made it on the calendar for a weekly gig at the 400 Bar on the West Bank in Minneapolis, and you knew Willie Murphy liked their chops, they had arrived.
Why are there no comments?! This is a beautiful video of a wonderful band! I will always love & cherish the music of the Jayhawks. Their harmonies, their musicianship, their songwriting, hell, their SONGS still keep me alive!
do you want an answer?.ok because in this days the people don't know what is good music, don't know how to play a guitar , a bass,a drum, etc,In this days the people are so stupid .whay can we do?
Absolutely amazing, I saw this tour in 93... still one of my top 10 bands of all time. Hollywood Town Hall blew my mind and everything they recorded after that blew my mind again
Opened for Matthew Sweet at Tuxedo Junction in Danbury CT. I was blown away grabbed a pen and wrote the bands name down so I wouldn't forget. Went out the next day and picked up HTH. Loved them ever since greatest band to have not become superstars
I remember reading a review for their album Sound of Lies. Based on that review I bought the CD the same day. Been a fan ever since. Very very underrated band.
Starting with Hollywood this became my music, but very few of my friends even heard of them. Then one Thanksgiving we went to my sister in laws outdoor block Turkey day party near Tampa. Some of the guys produced guitars after the meal and started playing Jayhawks and Ryan Adams. Finally I found my peeps ! LOL
without a doubt one of THE most original unique bands ever. How I miss mark and gary collaborating... Cmon guys. do one more album for your die-hard fans...
Can't believe it, it's almost 30years ago. Around that time they played some shows in germany, Mark Olson was still in the band, and I missed them. I also wish Mark returns to the Hawks.
Ah the juxtaposition of life... the simple life, before mobile phones, before social media, when you had to get up off your arse to see great bands like these. Then, the current world where we can reminisce about those great times with a library of material at the click of a mouse in the comfort of your armchair... Give me life pre this digital convenience any day of the week!!
Tom Perry’s estate owes them $$$, IMO. Every time I’ve ever heard Last Dance with Mary Jane (a song I love) I hope, after those opening chords, it’s going to be Waiting For the Sun
She likely developed friendships with Gary and the others during her time with the band. So it's really not a surprise that she would continue to play with the band.
The Jayhawks have been with me for a quarter of a century, like a trusted friend. Hollywood Town Hall, was and remains, a masterpiece.
Damn straight
Great album, every song!
Absolutely one of the greatest and most overlooked albums. The shining star of the Jayhawks catalogue.
Hollywood Town hall is a modern American masterpiece.
Absolutely. I just listened to it again while doing the dishes this morning. This album is a national treasure. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Definition of great album.never gets old.
So glad I got to see these guys on the Hollywood Town Hall at Maxwell’s in Hoboken. Amazing band.
Man O Man ! Love me some Jayhawks. Wish I could see ya'll in person. Right up there with Floyd & Zeppelin ❤
Uncle Tupelo paved the way. Jayhawks and other greats kept it going.

Both Hollywood Town Hall and Tomorrow the Green Grass were seminole albums for me in my 30's. Saw them at Slim's in San Francisco.
Love this band! I really enjoyed this.
Such a remarkable outfit. Gary’s guitar playing is seriously underrated.
The late great analog era, with hope and warmth.
without a doubt one of THE most original unique bands ever. How I miss mark and gary collaborating... Cmon guys. do one more album for your die-hard fans...
Would like a recording of that whole gig in the promo
In the end they will leave a legacy of one of the best bands ever. Gram Parsons would have loved them.
Such a great album. I discovered these guys about that time, opening for The Black Crowes.

Love the Jayhawks!
The 90’s were the best last decade…..
Still listen to Rainy Day Music a lot.

So Karen knew Mark first but continues to play with Gary to this day. I find that interesting.

Great. Stuff love there sound
Little Rock, Arkansas
I wish Marc Olsen was still with them😅
Ken Callahan was a great loss for The Jayhawks. Not the same after he was kicked out.
Lost some edge...IMHO..
