I bought an Akai MPC60 sampler and sequencer, designed by the legendary Roger Linn. In this video, I am sharing my exciting (and slightly challenging) journey of purchasing an MPC60 that arrived in not such a great state. It was ´interesting´ to find what was inside the machine, and to top it off, half of the pad sensors were not working.
So, I had to roll up my sleeves, clean out years of grime, and replace the faulty pad sensors to bring this classic machine back to life.

I love when '90s stuff has a boot screen with the copyright date. But half the stuff I've got on eBay/Reverb is just covered in dirt/dust/rust like it's been moved between sketchy storage units for the past 20 years. I have a few E-mu modules that are in perfect shape except for dirt/rust/oxidation or something on the back/bottom.
I have all kinds of experiences as well. Very nasty and rusty, with dead animals or just dirty ones. But let me tell you that it is gratifying once you clean them up and look new.

Congrats on your “new” purchase! If brand new items already carry a certain risk (Monday models, manufacturing, shipping, etc.), then stuff that's tens of years old even more so. You made the best of the situation. (unaware if "Monday model" even exisits in English. Anyway its a common in term in German.)

If you like your hands on old machines then forget Germany & visit Austria instead. Just 40km southern fron me there's the so called eboardmuseum, the hottest vintage synth museum ever, with the rarest & most expensive ones, among others with Yamaha GS1, DX1, CS80 & DX7 II centennial anniversary model with golden knobs & illuminative keys. The last time I asked him some time ago it's already expanded to more than 1000 items. There's a stage for performances & couches to rest because once it was a furniture house.

Nice one, I restore a mkii a few years back and i had to replace all the tactile switches. That was tedious but it works like new now.
Yes, there's nothing better than bringing your equipment back to work. I like that feeling after fixing them
This is one of the best man! I love the 60. And i got a dope deal on a Roland amx-600 but it smelled like an ashtray and had a layer of Residue. They clean up nice though!
😄Some part of me would like to know where these machines have been, but another part doesn't. I love the cleaning process and trying to make them look almost like their original state.

In this case, dust was everywhere and more nasty stuff.

Since you have the Marion SCSI interface installed, you might want to consider getting a ZIP-drive, which is much faster than USB or SD.

Zips were NEVER reliable, even when new! I had a stack back in the 90s to go with my Akai S2000.

How do these touch sensitive pads work? what secret is to unveil?
