Good video and explanation. Fantastic that Lifan sent you the device loaded with the new map that allowed you to flash the new map onto the existing ECU.
Wow that was very well put together video and exactly what I was looking for. I have done some videos and this was very well done. I posted my reply to towards the previous comment and was wondering what number, email, address you actually used to send in the cdi for remapping. I think it is great they send you the device and I am sure they do that for legal/liable reasons. Please read my reply in regards to pinging/engine knock if you can. I know it's not a rod knock as I have been doing this for 45 years and know pre-ignition/ pinging sounds like. It sounds just like an old high performance car running on low octane gas.
Thank you for the kind words. You can contact American Lifan using the email address listed on their website (link is below) or use their online form. They instructed me to send it to them in an email reply, but the source bike must have broken down right after I sent it. I’m not sure if this is just temporary until they get another bike to use for remapping, or if this is what they are doing now. Their contact info is found on this page... www.americanlifan.com/contact/ I'm also experiencing a rattling sound and have read your post on China Riders. I too went through everything thinking something was just loose and rattling, but could not find it. I also asked Lifan when I emailed them, but they didn't answer that in their reply. I had a similar sound on my TBR7, but it went away when I changed to the wet clutch 20W50 Valvoline motorcycle oil. (I also tightened everything at the same time though, too) I'm using the Rotella 15W40 on my Lifan, but maybe I will try the conventional 10W40 or 20W50 next time. It almost sounds like it is rattling in the clutch area of the motor. It only does it at certain points after revving and only when riding in gear. It doesn't do it while sitting still and revving. I hope we can figure it out soon.
I have another bit of interesting news, I emailed them and I got a response back within 24 hours explaining the entire situation and they replied back," we will send you the device to re-map ". I thought that was nice and I will let you know if it shows up and I did not have to send them my unit. On the other issue of pinging I rode it 10 miles yesterday and I have determined it is not a pinging sound/detonation and it is definitely a rattle. Since I moved a few cables around and zip tied the clutch cable the rattle is now a little more inconsistent.
Thanks for the updates! I agree it resembles a rattling sound more than a pinging, especially since it only happens at a higher RPM. Almost like you can feel the vibration as it's making the sound. Does that make sense? Keep me posted and I will do the same. I hope to ride this weekend. Stay safe!
Yep , it sounds like rattling just like you said. I just might check the timing chain tensioner and was wondering if the chain was making that noise. I also contacted VENOM and they have not sent out the programmer yet and said it wasn't ready. Still waiting. NO hurry
yep.. just got mine.. very weak/lean idle.. find I have to keep the RPM up and slip the clutch around the parking lot. Could get used to it.. but needs a more torque idle/off idle.. don't care about mileage of course..
hmmm.. if I only use 93 octane, can they bump the timing too? Has anybody done a dyno tune? Idle torque is my issue.. very smooth, just no pookum (at all). Letting the RPM fall below 1400 and expecting any power is risky of dying. Could be better.
One other thing to check... Does your bike idle a little faster when you turn the handlebars all the way to the right? Mine was, but just a little bit. It died a couple of times as if it was trying to compensate for the faster idle being caused by the turned handlebars. I adjusted the throttle cable nut that is coming out of the throttle grip, and it has not dies again since. It's worth checking into if you have already been remapped.
I have this bike and raised the idle at the idle stop nut that involves allen wrench and a small wrench to loosen and re-adjust because it does idle too low. I definitely am going towards the re-mapping and will contact them too. I added 2 inch risers on the handle bars since the bars are a squatty and feel off and uncomfortable. I then found the exact same thing when I turned the handlebars to one side it stretched the cable and the idle was erratic and therefore loosened the throttle assembly. On the other hand I seem to have pinging/engine knock when throttle response cranked at any speed . I am using 90 octane and have looked everywhere for loose items that could cause this rattle that sounds like it is coming from under the gas tank. The engine so damn quiet I am wondering if I am just hearing engine noise. I have never had a bike this quiet.
Lifan contact information is on their website (link is below)... You will want to contact them before sending your ECU. They told me to send it, but a week later they sent it back to me with the programmer to do it myself. I'm not sure if this is just temporary until they get their source bike fixed. They didn't send me instructions so I made this quick video on how to do it. I hope it helps. Lifan Contact Info: www.americanlifan.com/contact/
now have to wonder why LIfan would the programer instead of doing what you did.. does not make sense. they going to send this part to everyone that sends in ECM to remap?? seem like the remapper is an expense.
I think Lifan sent the device because the map on the flashing device (the one sent to BR][AN) is "static" and is tested(by Lifan controls engineers) to work on the bike. Maybe one could connect the flashing device sent by Lifan to a ECU reader/programmer and possibly download the new upgraded map. Thus Allowing the owner/tech to read the new map table. It would be interesting to compare the original map to the new "upgraded" map. See what they changed/tweaked.
I've been waiting on them to send me the flasher for over 2 weeks!
I got my programmer yesterday. I'll reflash mine over the weekend.
Good video and explanation. Fantastic that Lifan sent you the device loaded with the new map that allowed you to flash the new map onto the existing ECU.
Nice! I’m still debating doing this. Subscribed and liked for when the time comes

So does it mostly just richen it up a bit at idle & down low
Hmm. I sent mine in January and they didnt send it back with the programmer

I was hoping this would fix my issue where it would die at idle but it still does it.
