Not a good example of how these bikes work. I have beat mine for almost a year and it never has issues spinning the rear tire. Batteries are not a big deal. They are cheap for a reason. So with a little care they are actually really dependable bikes. Mines has over 4k miles in less a year. She is a beast in mud or street

Your hawk ain't stock if u say it does good in the dirt because these bikes suck in the mudd especially stock. And rocky trails u don't stand a chance u would have to completely mod it suspension and tires everything

And holy shit if you had to take the allen bolt out of the front shocks to get ride of that silver mystery oil. Oh and the rear shock is terrible hard to replace with only 2 bolts. They werent made for racing. As far as it wont handle things. Thats the rider not the bike. I have tortured my bike and it still runs great. Like all machines they break. Wtf did you think you were getting for 1500 bucks? A super moto lol

You're the one who's trying to make it look like a super moto not me and bullshit its the operator the bike comes with street tires on it not knobbies and ur telling me u r hard on it what on the streets? I got 4 dirtbikes and my xr 400 right now is my favorite no operator error and I never once said the hawk 250 is a racing bike or that the suspension would be fun to change but it sure does make it better for offroad. I'm not wrong seems to me you don't know rather to uplift the bike or put it down... I stick to my first answer these bikes are shit unless you mod them.
I honestly dislike people like this who "review" these China bikes. They go in expecting this bike to perform like a $6k new Japanese bike. You might as well compare a Ford Mustang to a Ford GT. In my area of Ohio I searched for months to find a used dual sport under $3k and all of them were rough 1990's that had serious issues and sill cost as much as this China bike. I want someone to make a real review of these bikes and explain what you should expect and what you get from one.
Check out MotoCheez, as someone else posted, he's done assembly, rides, and mods on the tbr7, the hawk (carb), the hawk dlx (fuel injected), the brozz, the magician, the raven, and probably a couple more.

I see reviews from other bikers who do trails etc on this bikes and are very happy and a 3k use bike you will probably need another 2k to fix them

The cheap items can be easily replaced. The motor is more reliable than most modern bikes that you have to rebuild every 100 hours

@@christopherking2012 I would have to strongly disagree the Honda cg engine has been available for 50 odd years so there’s nothing being discontinued for these bikes…tao tao and other similar makes like rps may seem newer in the USA but they’re very well established brands in most other countries with how many 1,000s of companies reproduce parts for the Honda cg engines there’s nothing to worry about as far as parts availability
This bike is not bad for what it is. A $1500 bike. It's fun asf. You can ride light trails and cruise around on it. It's also fun for a project. It's not a ktm or a Honda Africa twin. If it's your first bike? You can't beat it for the price point. Buy one. Have fun with it. Upgrade when you can afford it or have a skillset that out works it.
I got the hawk 250 as my first bike and I will say that once you change the battery these things are SO MUCH FUN
I changed the battery, sprockets, chain, spark plug, exhaust, carb and did the airbox mod out of the gate on my hawk and it runs like a champ.. will cruise at 70 and get up to 60 in around 11 seconds as opposed to stock which took 18 seconds

Yeah, these are really buy and mod bikes. Everyone I've seen who liked them was mechanically inclined and fixed the deficiencies. From what I've seen it's a good bike if you like to tinker.

They’ll definitely go the long haul! We got guys with 15,000 plus miles and they’re just keeping on going..most of the mods-upgrades you can find on my channel! Digital cluster swap upgraded foot pegs levers etc

Sorry, thumbs down on this one. This video was so bad I was starting to check to see if I was a belated April fools joke! It is just a hatchet job trying to play on the viewer's bias against cheap products made in China. I'm sure there are many shortcomings of this bike, but presented in this fashion, the shortcoming is the content.
So a cheap bike with no suspension tuning for the "out of spec" rider crashed when ridden in a poor form with a flat tire has bad handling? And the same "out of spec" guy trying to "square off" low speed cornering, inches from a truck I might add, complains about the rear brake getting hot and calls it dangerous? Which one is dangerous?
Doesn't know how to clear out a flooded bike after a crash. Whines about the Made in China part (isnt' that what they bought?). Improperly vented battery causes failure, but everyone blames the battery failure on the bike not the assembler. Doesn't know stators put out crap voltage at low RPM. Then he uses his mass to spin the tire on the rim doing some obnoxious burnout attempt while fully seated. Then explains how to make the DOT legal tires massively out of balance using a rim lock, when the real problem was likely poor rider choices on an under inflated tire.

The Hawk is a good bike for the price. The only bikes for $2,000 in my area are really old (90's) and / or have problems.
Well, this is not void of problems. And I assure you as an experienced rider of over 35 years of all styles, you would be better off with a used bike from a reputable manufacturer and getting it squared away.

Mine was delivered without any assembly hardware or any of the parts you have to put on the bike except the front tire. You can't buy parts anymore. I wish I got something Japanese, even if it was old.
@@christopherking2012 join the Hawk 250 Facebook group. Most parts are universal and they can help you locate them. Old japanese bikes have problems too. I will admit though, that the Hawk 250 isn't for everybody.

ive had mine for 4 years, paid $1319 delivered to my door... this is an awesome bike, especially for the price. mine is still running strong. they ripped the tube from the stem because the air pressure wasnt correct, they overfilled the battery.. these guys seem like they dont know what they are doing. i can only say this as an awner of a hawk 250, and i know how reliable and awesome they are.. i mean the motor is a honda cb125 clone bored over to 229cc's. saying they dont like the look of the welds or "its made in china" doesnt cut it.. they have to know that a lot of japanese bikes are made in china, right?
900mi and I drive it like I stole it. Bent a front rim, dropped it countless times bending the handlebars and cracking many plastics. Still fires right up even at 20F. There tough enough.

I own a Chinese dirtbike, and it's not even a 250 it's a stout little 85cc pitbike and it hauls. I think it's made by Tao Tao or something like that. And, I think the key to making these bikes last is maintenance ie oil changes, keep it lubed etc. I don't know why the Hawk 250 gets a bad reputation, to each his own, but I like these low budget Chinese bikes.

They probably didnt even change the shipping oil. The shipping oil is super thin and crappy.
I bought a hawk 250 (carbureted) a few months ago. The meter is at 620 miles (which apparently isn't accurate). I rip trails every weekend. It's not the most powerful but I take small jumps and pop wheelies nonstop. I have grounded it a few times but no serious impacts. The only issue I have had was a starter solenoid that went after a few weeks because a terminal wasn't tight. It's been an amazing bike for the price and abuse.
I don't know bikes too well so I can't see whether this bike is worth the one half to one third cost of the bikes they seem to be comparing it to, but I have seen it twice on TFL and both times have only seen over sized people trying to make it thrash the tires and then complain that it won't. It kind of doesn't look like these have been such "honest and independent" reviews for some reason.
Yea, go check out some of motocheez's videos, or countless others on this bike, lots of people with tons of bike knowledge buying and loving these. Some do quite a bit of modding, some hardly do any modding. I always like to see both good and bad reviews on anything I'm buying, kind of mesh them together to get the real review, so I'll remember this review, but I don't think I would put a lot of stock into it. They are right, it's not as good of a bike as the Japanese bikes, even used Japanese, but you won't find even a used Japanese "dual sports" that are street legal for the cost of these. I bought one, already assembled, but having done some research before buying, I checked several things when I got it before I started riding it. Maybe that's the difference between my experience and their's.
Bikes and Beards beat the hell out of one of these to the point of leaving it in a pond over night and had half the problems you guys had it would also help if the rider didn't weigh more than the bike It's a cheap bike made for street and light dirt road riding .and yes I would rather have a used Yamaha than this

You could give them a crated japanese bike with no branding and with they would still blame their ignorance of setup on it being made in China.
The funny thing is, the motor on these Chinese bikes are 1980s Honda clone, more reliable than modern hot trash that you have to rebuild every 100 hours

I stripped my hawk 250 did a free flow exhaust changed the tank new carb and the power to weight is way better

These bikes are made for trail / exploring and back road street riding . They perform these functions very well but are not designed for hard rough jumps / racing/rocky rutted mud bogging. If you are wanting to just get out and trail ride to enjoy the scenery they do the job . For 2k its a bargain. Of course a lemon resides in any manufacturers inventory. Check out the numerous videoes of guys getting thousands of miles on them with basic maintenance before you discard purchasing one. I dont like bashing a bike that gets new riders into the joy of motorcycling on a budget. Also its a pie in the sky crap shoot to get a good 250 used dual sport for 2k made by the big manufacturers that isnt in need of major parts replacements thusly ending up being out of the price range of many. Bottom line its a bargain beginner ( and fun option to tinker with) or simply a inexpensive back up bike to have .
That electric start also works as a pretty nice kick assist
I've dogged the hell out of mine, I've had a dead battery for over a year. You just don't know what the he'll you guys are doing. Oh yeah you definitely dumped the bike on purpose. And the reason its feels so heavy is because you obviously don't know how to ride
Don't bother watching the entire video. It's not clear these guys have ever ridden anything. I'm guessing they are used to having a dealer do a set up. It's like they didn't do any research on Chinese bikes.
I dunno I think it's worth watching the whole video. My favorite part was the not intentional lay down of the bike in the turn. At that point I think he should have stayed where he was and not got back on but nope he kept getting back on. The whole video was rather comical. I learned a lesson though. First video I have watched on this channel it will also be the last.
Why wouldn't the bike start with a dead battery even though it has a kick start? Something about stator vs magneto?
Someone had mentioned how the front shocks work better with oil in them. They come empty they said
never ever have the lock nut on the innertube tight, if its up near the cap , when you stop if valve stem isnt straight. tire has shifted WITHOUT pulling valve stem from tube!!!!!!
Of course, in this case filling the rear tire with air would have prevented the tire from spinning on the wheel. With proper pressure in there, the tire will be held tight on the bead seat and even with the prodigious power of the 250, it wouldn't slip on the wheel. Check tire pressures before riding.

dinguses rode with low tire pressure on a bike with no rimlock. gotta run 25psi, works fine on my dr650..also no rimlock. edit: 12:00 thats like 12 psi lol.

lmao, people always say this BS and no there aren't. people around me are asking $4k+ for old sv650s. if it's a bike under $3k near me, it's from the 80s and 90% of it is in boxes. I'm trying to pinch pennies on something that, statistically, I'm probably going to die on, do yo really think I have time and money to run all around the country trying to find some unicorn of an affordable, reliable, non-Chinese bike that frankly doesn't even exist in the first place?
there's about half the reason I can see to buy one. the other half is that if China can produce something this passable for $1500-$2000, then all the big "trusted" brands are royally screwing everyone over. I'd rather not reward them for it by buying their products.

You are using a sub $2k enduro an expecting it to outperform a proven motocross race rig. Apples to Oranges comparison. These are plenty capable bikes to hit the trails with. They actually do damn good for what they are.

In today's market you can barely find a running used bike for 2k. Trust me I looked before buying this exact Chinese bike. I love mine, I'm not a hardcore rider, just an old guy that likes tooling around the neighborhood and the occasional trail. I went through the bike and did a full pdi, broke it in properly, made all the necessary adjustments. It's been a great bike for me. It's all about intended use. If you want a race bike buy a race bike.
Well, they are considered SCOOTERS, so riding it like a "REAL DIRT BIKE" I would imagine your going to break all that cheap crap. For just getting around on the streets, and bumpy dirt roads, they are great. After all, you get what you pay for. Just my opinion.
I had my first Honda XL enduro when I was 14, bought it brand new off the showroom floor. I didn't "break it in", instead, I tore that baby around the block and up and down the alley next to our house until I could shift properly without popping a wheelie or killing it lol. They wouldn't let me ride it home. The only bike I had prior, was a used suzuki 50 dirt bike my dad bought from a guy he worked with. He had made it into an automatic....gag gag, but being a girl, I guess my dad saw a good deal..think he paid like $50 for it. This was back in 84. That little Honda Enduro that I BOUGHT NEW, with my own money from paper routes, cost $999. It went 60 with me and my boyfriend on it. Ya there was no pegs for a 2nd person, but we adapted. We rode that thing all over, even into the big city of Tulsa, Ok. I'm 53 now, and have had all kinds of bikes. Currently a Honda Shadow Custom Deluxe 600 VLX. Sits really low, doesn't have the power like I thought it should have. It's a great ride tho. You just can't tear a honda up, I mean not without crashing badly. I digress...
I was wanting another enduro, to throw in the back of my truck, hook the camper up and go. These things look perfect for what I want it for. At least if I get it from the dealer in Tulsa, I get a warranty, service schedule and no probs getting a tag. I keep hearing when you order it online, some ppl are having troubles getting their tag for it. PLUS, this place takes credit cards lol. IDK if they want money down or not. Fixing to ride my Shadow to Tulsa and find out tho. I could just call, but....I need a ride, ya know?

These guys bought one of those bikes and then did all the rookie mistakes that you’re not supposed to do with these bikes. They didn’t replace the stock battery because of course you don’t want that piece of shit in there. They didn’t put rim locks on the tires. That issue with the tire going flat would’ve happened with any rim tire that sprocket. And most people that have these box don’t tighten that nut all the way down they back it up against the cat so that if it does go a little flat, it doesn’t rip where the stem chances to the tube. But that’s only if you’re dumb and don’t put a rim lock on your tire.
I bought a Lifan China bike years ago. Once I had it fully assembled. I took it out for its first ride. I noticed that the rear brake caliper was pinching the rear brake disc. OK, I fixed that. I noticed that the engine was making a lot of noise on the valve train. I was going to set the valve lash. I could not remove the rocker box cover because there was insufficient room between it and the upper frame spar of the bike. I had to pull the engine just to set the valves. I did not use this bike for off road, but for transportation to go down to the train station in Tacoma Washington to take the train to Seattle where I worked. Over time the plastic switches for the turn signals, horn, and high beam began to crack and fall apart. I held them together with cable ties and silicone sealer. After that when I continued using it as a commuter, the plastic panels began to crack and fall off. I think the moral of the story is, if you buy an inexpensive China motorcycle, you get what you paid for. These bikes cant be compared at all to Japanese bikes because those bikes have superior build quality and the China bikes do not.

I'm curious. Are you paid to talk nonsense about these bikes by someone? Viewers, PLEASE don't watch this nonsense to make a buying decision - speak to a grown-up who has one (and maybe a few comparison bikes to offer a reasonable appraisal of it) first. Yes, these $2K (new) Chinese bikes have limitations - much like the technical and riding limitations you see on display here.
Perhaps put someone of appropriate weight on the bike, and ride it, not race it. If you are over weight for a bike, and don't take the time to make changes for your girth, its really not a fair review. Put some knobbies on it for the conditions not just dual sport, street oriented tires too.
This week on TFLBids, Hawk 250. TFL good luck getting rid of that thing. lol I said it before, it is not meant for seasoned riders. Just good for putting around camp sites or down to your local 711. lol

I just bought one of these and spent another $500 on upgrades to install. I love projects and look forward to appreciating my motocheez. You can't find used dirt bikes for a fraction of the cost not considering you know it was beat and likely has issues. Truly a poor review, thumbs down for sure.

That tube broke off the stem, possibly cause you guys tightened the nut to tight the stem. I could see where the nut was. The tube needs some room to slide the tube inside, from the Stem.

I have a different brand Chinese bike and I already changed the tires and tubes. My battery was weak as well so I just replaced that. There are name brand bikes made in China(KTM).
Of course there are name brand bikes made in China. That does not mean there aren't shitty Chinese bikes.
What do name brand bikes have to do with anything? This isn't a name brand bike, does not have the reputation to protect of a name brand, and does not have the warranty or even out of warranty support of a name brand bike. I expect it does not have anything approaching the design, materials, construction or QA of a name brand bike.

Rim locks are only needed if you plan on running with really low air pressure in an attempt to get more traction from the tire flattening out. When the bike is loaded down with a heavy rider and cargo loads, it's far better to have sufficient air pressure.

Let the "pro" try riding the same way with an outta the box CRF250L rally and he'll probably have the same gripes. This pile was designed for basic putting around dirt roads, farms etc. Not really designed for beating on like a MX bike.
After watching this, I'm glad I went with the Templar X instead of the Hawk. I've only had it for a few days, but I can tell just from looking at them both that the Templar is in a different league of quality. The 20hp 249cc with six speed on my Templar have NO problem spinning the tire or pulling me (230lbs) up a big, steep dirt hill in 2nd gear. The 14hp 223cc on that Hawk sounds utterly anemic in comparison. The chintzy swingarm and frame on the Hawk do indeed look like something you'd find on a cheap toy, whereas the Templar looks like a legit dirt bike (albeit one of yesteryear). It's not ALL good, as the wiring, plastics, and some other non-essentials do seem cheaply made so I don't expect it to endure the test of time without some upgrades, but I'm not all that worried about breaking it from riding it rough. It does have rim locks, heavy duty pegs, a maintenance free battery, front and rear adjustable compression and rebound, aggressive knobbies, very nice chomemoly frame, a swingarm that doesn't look like it was made for a kitchen appliance, etc etc. I'm sure the Hawk is perfectly fine for most, but the Templar is absolutely, unarguably a better bike for only a couple bucks more. It's really surprising the Hawk is as popular as it is when there are better cheap amazon bikes in the same price range.

Bought my sons a CRF80 and CRF150 in 2004 and they rode them for 3 or 4 years. Then they sat in storage for several years before I gave them to my best friend for his two sons. He changed fuel and plugs and they started right up and have given him 0 problems. Buy decent stuff and it will last decades.
What a turd! Covid bike shortage is making is harder to find good, inexpensive used bikes, particularly dual sports. Despite that, this bike makes a stronger case for picking up a used CRF250L, CRF230L, KLX250, XT250, etc. Pay a little more and get the higher quality used Japanese bike.
I picked up an old Kawasaki Super Sherpa 250 from my neighbor that sat around a lot. Ended up with around $1200 in the bike and various little repairs. It's a little small for taller riders, but those make a great dual sport for a shorter person. It's light at 282 lbs wet and will run 70mph thanks to a surprisingly powerful engine and 6 speed trans. I highly recommend those if you can find one. They aren't super common due to limited sales here in the US.
Last note, rim locks aren't usually found on dual sports. They make it harder to balance wheels/tires. Like the guy said, easy to add. If you aren't spending a loy of time at higher road speeds, the wheel balance issue isn't a problem. That Hawk will hardly run 60 mph anyway. You really only run into a problem spinning tires on rims and destroying tubes when your air pressure is low. I've run my rear tire down to 15-17 psi on my CRF450L which has a more aggressive than stock tire and didn't have any problems. Cheaper tires and rims like on this Hawk probably contributed, too.
Dude...your comparing apples to cheerios...that bike is for people who can't afford a used 10k crf....its a 2k bike. Most people who would actually buy this bike. Would probably be alot more conservative in riding to begin with...these things are for cruising. Not thrashing....It does not say honda anywhere...
