Lyrics There was a time when to amplify DNA, You had to grow tons and tons of tiny cells. Then along came a guy named Dr. Kary Mullis, Said you can amplify in vitro just as well. Just mix your template with a buffer and some primers, Nucleotides and polymerases, too. Denaturing, annealing, and extending. Well it’s amazing what heating and cooling and heating will do. PCR, when you need to detect mutations. PCR, when you need to recombine. PCR, when you need to find out who the daddy is. PCR, when you need to solve a crime. (repeat chorus)
When I got in uni I thought of my professors as like *serious scientists*. As I get more familiar with them in the labs, I have to tell you, this is the sort of fuckery that goes on😂
What an amazing piece of art. It manages to be funny as a spoof, catchy as a tune, memorable as an ad, and inspiring as a celebration of human progress -- all at the same time!
We watched this in school and everybody was laughing like "haha it's kind if funny" but our teacher was like "HAHAHAHA I CAN'T BREATHE...THIS IS HAHAHAHAH SO FUNNY....HAHAHA"
PCR, when you need to detect mutation, PCR,when you need to recombine, PCR, when you need to find out who the daddy is, PCR, when you need to solve a crime.
For those of you who don't know the story behind the discovery of PCR: Dr. Kary Mullis was out for a pleasant drive in California tripping hard on some LSD. He was thinking about some biochemical problem he was working on. He was visualizing reactions in his head and eventually he "saw" the idea for PCR. Off to the lab he went. God bless LSD.
This is the best song based on PCR in existence! I am thoroughly entertained. More commercials should put forth this amount of effort to educate many and entertain very few. HAHA
I am utterly addicted to this song! :) I keep playing it over and over again. I am such a nerd! Yay! I look forward to using PCR in my research work now.
eeee! We've passed our exam "Genetic Ingineering" last week, and now all my group sing this song.)) Unforgetable. It's awesome. Thanxx for utubing this!
It is a wonderful example of viral marketing. It is a technique which use social networks to produce increases in brand awareness. BRAVO BIO-RAD, well done. I LOVE IT.
Ok I just typed in PCR into the search box because I was bored and I do the PCRing in my lab and came upon this.....so glad I did.....this is Awesome!!!!!!!
This is the best thing I've ever found in my whole life. That might be because it's finals week and I'm not sleeping, but I also think it's possible this is just *that* great.
Must be a scientist as well. It was one of the first thoughts in my head too. I actually expected the comment section to be filled with new comments of people trying to inform themselves.
watched this during our last microbi lab lecture... first time i was fully awake during that lecture, someone needs to flashmob this during one of our finals
I just searched for the name of the song I already know the melody of this song. I was so confused about for about a month😂 You answered a question that was in my head for long time😂
this finally establish the validity of my theory: the scientific research is not good for your sanity. Fantastic video, henceforth I'll perform my PCR with all a new attitude
The guy who sings "Well it's amazing what heating and cooling and heating will do".. When I first saw this video like 12 years ago, I thought it was Harrison Ford singing 😂🤣
@MadDragonify You can do PCR with small samples, but there's a limit to how small the sample can be. (It also depends on the kind of equipment you use.) And by degraded, I don't necessarily mean mutated. I mean that over time DNA kind of...falls apart, for lack of a better term. (My professor and I had some problems with that during a research project we worked on last semester...it was very frustrating.)
I've never seen a man so happy to be holding a PCR machine in my life. This is amazing.
We watched this in biochem last semester, and everyone took out their cell phones and waved them in the air like at a concert. It was great!
if only my biochem class was that lit XD, then again, no one shows up.....XD

Wow, u have PCR in school?
True
@@clip012 not at our school, but we learn what it is
Lol it's funnier when you've been in the medical field for a bit.
I've been watching this for years. I revisit this every so often, because it's just pure gold. Thank you.
... And yet even with this clever gem, still Kary Mullis has never become a household name ... big sigh from Fauxi.
Same.
@@JordanSmith-jd1ee Yup. Still true here too. :)
Me too!
This is effin' fantastic.
I once heard this song in highschool, and still jamming on it after 6 years. Gosh... proud to say it does bring back memories.

My teachers played this in the lab while I was making the master mix. Most awkwardest moment ever....
Hahaha that's actually really funny
Sometimes, you just have revisit the classics...thanks for this. Have enjoyed for years.
I think scientists might just be the most meme-ish population in the world

I found this song during my finals... PURE GOLD ❤❤❤
OMG I am in 80's heaven! And nerd Bio teacher heaven!

This song is amazing! I've been using it since my senior year in high school and I am now a senior in college!
This is absolutely brilliant!!! I don't know the category, but this ought to win tons of awards from someone. See, science can be fun and interesting.
Currently studying a level biology with a month until exams- this song has made revision a little better 😂
I watched this when it came out and 15 years later, it never gets old.
This video is genius. Pure genius. Props to whoever wrote the song and spoofed 'USA for Africa.'

Oh this rocks, it'll be all over the center tomorrow. We already have our Bio-Rad PCR.
That really brought back memories, jajjjaj , loved it!!
a true masterpiece
The anthem of each biologist
"indoctrinated" scientists who have been taught a FALSE science. The purpose Mullis invented the PCR for has been abused.
Lol I love how no one saw the references to the original "We Are The World" music video XD
References? That's exactly what this video is a parody of. That's why it's funny...
My biology teacher showed is this song and video and now I can't get it out of my head! Science is fun!
