You may not understand the lyrics in this language. But it will still bring a tear to your eye. Ahhhhh the beauty of the Irish.

I've always loved Paul singing this song, but have never heard the Gaelic version before - brilliant!

Jesus, the Irish language is just beautiful. Makes you wonder why we still sing, write, talk and live with this bastard language.

Is iontach an saothar a rinne Prionsias O Maoinigh ar leagan gaelig a chur ar an amhrán seo, mar shampla ' Thug mé léim ar thréin le heirí gréin' srl. agus ansin Paul Brady á chanadh, bheadh sé deacair e a shárú!

Cheapas an rud ceannan céanna faoin líne sin: Deachair é a shárú. Ní raibh a fhois agam gur P Ó Maoinigh a chum.

    For those who need translation
T'was on one bright March morning I bid New Orleans adieu
And I took the road to Jackson town, me fortune to renew
I cursed all foreign money, no credit could I gain
Which filled me heart with longin' for the Lakes of Pontchartain
I stepped on board of a railroad car beneath the morning sun
And I rode the roads 'til evening and I laid me down again
All strangers here, no friends to me 'til a dark girl towards me came
And I fell in love with a Creole girl from the Lakes of Pontchartrain
I said my pretty Creole girl, me money here's no good
If it weren't for the alligators I'd sleep out in the wood
You're welcome here kind stranger, our house it's very plain
But we never turn a stranger out at the Lakes of Pontchartrain
She took me to her mammy's house and she treated me quite well
The hair upon her shoulders in jet black ringlets fell
To try and paint her beauty I'm sure t'would be in vain
So handsome was my Creole girl from the Lakes of Pontchartrain
I asked her if she'd marry me, she'd said it could never be
For she had got another and he was far at sea
She said that she would wait for him and true she would remain
'Til he returned for his Creole girl from the Lakes of Pontchartrain
So fair thee well me bonny o' girl I never see no more
But I'll ne'er forget your kindness and the cottage by the shore
And at each social gathering a flowin' glass I'll raise
And drink a health to me Creole girl from the Lakes of Pontchartrain

is iontach an leagan a chur Francie Mooney ar fáil dúinn - thug mé léim ar thraein le heiri gréin' - shur is filíocht den scoth atá ann! Agus ar ndóigh le Paul Brady á chanadh bheadh ort a dhul i bhfad chun a teacht a a sháru!

I don't have the right. Nor do I have the time, just the inclination. Lets not forget that our language was systematically murdered for 800 years.

Is maith is cuimhin liom a bheith ag seinm an t-amhrán seo bliantaí ó shin nuair a bhí me ní b'óige i mo dhéagóir agus mé a bheith ag gabháil cheoil as Béarla é. Mar sin, tháinig áthas mór ar mo chroí nuair a fuair mé an leagan Gaeilge seo amach.

Well, that's an interesting suggestion! Falls of Iguazu is the place shown in The Mission movie, right? By the way, Jacarè is also a novel by Luis Sepulveda, had no idea of what it means. Thanks!

The language here is actually known as "Irish" or more properly referred to as "Gaeilge". Gaelic is incorrect and refers to Scots Gaelic/Scottish Gaelic

    • @havok93
      @havok93 Рік тому

There is no such language as 'Irish Gaelic' as referenced in the video description. That was a slur used by English colonialists to discredit the legitimacy of the Irish language.
