    Hey Brother how's it going? I just want you to know 3 days ago you kept me from having a very cold night. I'm from the mountains of Southern West Virginia and I was hunting and got caught in the middle of the woods with a dead battery and no way to get out. My brother was going to meet me the next day so that way I didn't have to walk 12 miles out of the woods. Anyway, your video of the 24 oz can that you cut down and make out of a little heater saved me from freezing. I was sitting in my truck with nothing but my hunting clothes on and it was about 18 degrees outside, but I didn't want to run my fuel out just in case somebody came by and could give me a boost. All of a sudden it dawned on me that I had four 22 oz Arizona teas in my cooler. I've dumped the rest of the coffee out that I had in my thermos and poured the tea down in the thermos and then pulled my pocket knife out and got to cutting. Use my knife to poke the holes and cut a piece of my t-shirt to use as a wick and stuff down inside. Used ronsonol where's my fuel source. I had the cab of my truck toasty LOL. Set it in the floorboard of the passenger seat and kick back and went to sleep. Just goes to show that you don't know how great you can help somebody by the little things you do. My dad always said that you can learn something from every man that you meet, even if it's what not to do. Thank you brother for the help and keeping me warm. Keep on Keepin On. Semper Fi

    Thank you for making this video. I have one and was wondering if I should get a newer stove... and now, I think not. I even have a small cast iron pan that will work really well on this. There are many videos of folks lighting them up, but very few of folks cooking on them. And it was nice to see how hot this got. Ine question if you have a sec: Mine has a hand pump tho... but it seems I should be able to use it fine without actually pumping anything, is that right?

    Nice video and nice stove ! The old Optimus 8R is a beautiful piece of engineering. I have had mine for a long time. As you said it depends on warming the fuel tank for pressurizing . There is a known risk using wide pans on this stove. A wide pan may reflect a lot of heat to the fuel tank and may in extreme cases cause the safety valve to open. If this happens there will be a spray of fuel which will cause a fireball if ignited. This is very dangerous. Enjoy your stoves and stay safe!!

      You need to check out his Arizona Tea heater / cooking stove. I use mine in my deer stand all the time. I have little sealed blinds that go around my tree you stand. I actually is a tree house that I built. It's got a little wood stove in it in case I want to cook or something. But if I don't want to build a fire, for instance if it's too hot, I'll just use the homemade heater that he shows how to make in one of his videos.

      He always told me about how expensive the stove was way back then and that he always burnt the crap out of the bottom of every soup can he cooked.

      i don't know what the exchange rate was in the early 70's but back then rei in seattle sold the 8r for around $40. that was about the same cost as a 2-burner coleman fuel suitcase stove.

    You should make us a video of the heater / stove like the 22-oz Arizona Tea Peter that you made. But dude like I did, I made one using a metal Folgers coffee can. Bigger holes in the middle smaller holes on the outside. Sucks more air and gives a hotter Flame. Got that baby in my deer Hut 30 ft off the ground

    Hey brother, I forgot to mention something. Remember the Arizona Tea heater/cookstove you made that I mentioned in my comment? I made one similar to that but works much better and it's larger. I took a metal Folgers coffee can and made one and then brazing around the bottom were the top housing goes over the bottom housing. About a big cotton wick and put in the bottom of it. It's the same kind of cotton wick ball that goes in the bottom of those old-timey lanterns. They're supposed to last 3 years. We'll see I guess. It's unbelievable how hot it gets. Secondly, you know how you put holes in the middle, holes in the very center and then the Halls on the outside? I make the holes on the inside a little bit bigger and the hose on the outside a little bit smaller. That way it pulls more air down inside of it and pushes out a smaller flame but they act like little torches. I've noticed that it doesn't use as much fuel this way. I guess it's the old saying the more are you get the hotter the fire. And I guess even though the fire is hotter, it's acting kind of like a blowtorch because it's got a big hole sucking the air and little holes pushing the plane. I was shocked the first time I used it. You need to try coffee can.

      the 8R will only work on Coleman white gas or regular Gasoline. I've run 87 octane on mine for decades with no issues.

    The burner seems very similar to the setup on the SVEA 123 stoves. The fuel is underneath on the Svea the burner cup and the sound is almost the same. Noisy bastards. But I love my Svea. A glorious old piece of kit in brass. Heavy as sin but its a tank.

    • @marzsit9833
      @marzsit9833 3 роки тому

      the burner is basically the same as the svea but bent 90 degrees. it also has a cotton wick just like the svea.

    So it's ok to cook with regular gasoline...I have an old Peak I stove I want to try to get working and was thinking we used "White Gas" or something when we went altitude at Philmont Scout Ranch...back in the 80's lol...?

    • @marzsit9833
      @marzsit9833 3 роки тому

      automotive gasoline/petrol sounds like a good inexpensive fuel but keep in mind that the additives used to boost the octane will clog the generator on a coleman peak 1 stove. coleman is very good at discontinuing product support on a lot of their older products so if you ruin your generator, you might not be able to get a replacement.

    • @robertelmo7736
      @robertelmo7736 3 роки тому

      @@marzsit9833 I only used "white gas" or whatever it was on one trip that had some altitude...used Coleman fuel the rest of the time. Tried to get the stove to work the other month and it pumped up but wouldn't put fuel out....

    I think we have a stove like that at a flea market we have in the church. It’s not mint condition, and I have enough stoves as it is, but are any of you interested enough for me to handle it? It needs a good home, too.

    Holy Bologna Sandwiches...!!! There is a thumbs down on this video???...MUST, Absolutely Be A DEMOCRAT!...lol. I ABSOLUTELY !!! LOVED !!! THIS !!! VIDEO !!!!!!!!!! Why? Because you used a stove that we all ain't ever seen....Democrats don't like Old School Traditional Technology...You used Cast Iron...Democrats don't like HEAVY HEALTHY PANS...they like that NON STICK Teflon coatings that for some reason poisons our waters and gives us all California Reported Cancers....But it is more Green Friendly...lol. And the fact that I have no relection of what I am rambling on about...lol. But beware Brother Because you just got CHALLENGED...I'm shooting a video tomorrow , on a campfire...that you will be challenged in...it's a fun challenge and simple....but has to be a camp fire...even if in your own back yard.
