Lovely video! Re. The headlight film, I have put them on mine along with smoke rear light ones. You have to completely spray the film with soapy water front and back so it’s properly wet and then it’ll go on and align properly, then use the squeegee to remove the water and bubbles. Spray the front of the film too so it’s easier to squeegee the water and doesn’t scratch. It’ll then dry and the adhesive will bond to the lights. Let it set for 48 hours before washing the car 😊
You did the lights all wrong. You should have sprayed the film and the light so that the film slipped around on top of the lights so you could position it easily. And then you squeegee out excess moisture
I have these mats. First thing I bought as hate the mats that come with it. Crap gets stuck in it all the time. Have had them for 6 months and been very happy with them - incredibly easy to clean.
I decided already before taking delivery of my Highland to PPF it. Or half of it actually. Watched a bunch do it yourself videos and it looked fairly easy... Sometimes I am proud of myself that I actually do the second round of thinking. With my patience, or rather lack of it, I figured out how making it myself would end...And I did not want to spend money on plastic that I would have probably burned or something worse.... I contacted a guy to make it. Got a very good price for half PPF. And I am so happy I took help. The result is totally amazing. There is no way to spot the plastic wrap anywhere. And it comes with 10 year warranty.
i was 2 weeks away from getting my model y when you put out the 1st video of your headlight problem . i ordered film for the headlights and fog lights straight away . 1st attempt when it was cold was a disaster like yours despite using the soapy spray as others suggested. i found a few more videos where installers ued a hairdryer to warm the film . this made it super easy and theyve been on now for a few months .id deffinetly recomend taking your time and doing them again
Love your video(s)! Nowadays most youtubers just edit out things that go wrong so that you get the impression you are a clutch when doing stuff like this. Like the Instagram effect. And you can laugh about it. Unlike the other guy I think you are cool enough presenting it with humor. Much appreciated.
I had PPF put on my headlights and the whole front nose....but I got a professional shop do it so it worked great. (I had the hood and body pillars wrapped at the same time)
Great video, both additions are valuable but I agree the headlight PPF is an absolute pain to get fitted. I ended up soaking mine and not a bad job in the end.
Got exact same tube of headlight film, failed to put it on in similar fashion. 😂 I ended up cut a small slit where the DLR is and used sellotape to close the cut. My wife has a great photo of me putting sellotape on a £50k car. 😅 So far, it has survived 2 car washes.
I used a heat lamp to warm the head light and also used a hairdryer on high heat while squeegeeing the film. It's still not easy, but a softer more stretchy film helped with the positioning.
I used PPF on my emtb frame and you really need a load of soapy water on it , from what I could see there was nowhere near enough, you were always going to struggle. The water and soap does disappear, also a bit of heat is handy to have, a hair dryer
Need lots and lots of soapy water and squeegee it to sit flat to the curves. It will go. Best on warmer non windy day and even a gentle warm with a hair dryer once played down and helps squeegee out the creases and bubbles. You’re not using enough liquids!!
G'Day Ian. I also have all weather mats, installed from day one (so I didn't have to vacuum out the car. However, the mats I bought are significantly higher under the drivers footwell. (I notice yours have quite a gap at the top). May I suggest you try some other brands if you can. Yes, I know you get a commission, but there are better solutions out there IMO... I also have a complete wrap for the front of the car, which I have not put on myself after seeing other people's failures (before yours). My plan is to get it done professionally. Regards, Greg.
Model 3 has same escape button in frunk. I'm careful to keep the emergency pack in front of it to stop anything rolling to hit it if I have anything in there.
Agree with the mental age of a toddler which is probably why I enjoy your mad as a box of frogs videos as they drop when I’m in the garden having a beer which definitely helps! btw you slipped up here by not only mentioning but actually showing bugs on your car. Ian, in this climate change age WE DONT HAVE BUGS ON OUR CARS ANYMORE!!! Your complimentary graudian subscription has ceased herewith I’m getting some of those mats though
To pimp it proper you need to put an engine in it! And rather than protecting headlights which are only a grand you should be more concerned about depreciation of that heap..
Hi Ian, great video. Do you take on commissions hahaha? Had some rubber mats and boot liner before I took delivery so all installed from day 1 to preserve the interior and no worry about getting in with muddy boots. Have only cleaned the outside of my Y once since Sept 22 so am looking for the accumulated road grime to protect mine.
What is the headlight 'protection' film supposed to do anyway? Seems unlikely to be more resistant than the (presumably) polycarbonate headlight. Maybe it gives some protection over paint, and certainly can change the surface finish, but the headlight has to be clear and is already made from the strongest plastic available (and much thicker).
It’s not the PPF manufacturers fault that you have two left thumbs and can’t replicate the actions on the installation video. You could phone a friend?
So you have to be really really small to fit in the Frounk Well have you forgotten Little adults. They are called children and some of them were killed due to climbing into fridges that could not be opened from the inside. Good game trap your mate in the front for a laugh. I guess that's what the button is for on the inside. Not rocket science is it.
I have had 3 small children at various points. I don’t think I would shut them in there. I’m not sure they would know to push the button if they were shut it there. I think it’s there for US anti carjacking laws

Never go in dry! Definitely needed to completely wet the film and headlight.

The Clutch pedal rest is called the Dead Pedal.
Even with 3 pedels there's still a FOOT REST in most cars.

Thanks - the bloopers are the best bits!
The joys of pimpage Ian 😂

This has a comedy factor I love. 😂
I opted for smooth rubber mats, rather than the ones you have. Much much easier to clean.
I had my headlights done professionally, before watching your effort. 😒 I am so glad I did, as my method of working is very similar to yours
I’m glad it’s not just me that has been vexed by the ‘flap of doom’!

Hoover underneath the mats! 😮
Have done now
@@justgetatesla that’s a relief 😮💨😉

honestly I had to stop this video because of all the camera swinging about from floor to face was making me feel sick. Time to get a tripod perhaps?
5:35 it’s in case your cat gets locked in there. As we all know, cats are very clever Also they can see in the dark to let themselves out.
That frunk button is there for American legislation. They mandate that for front and rear.

You were not using nearly enough soapy water. Look at the pros doing it on UA-cam
I used more off camera.
First

Man, your videos are nice but why do you sound so stiff, relax man. Drink some water, please. Calm Calm down
