Looking into this a little and watching a couple of other videos, you don’t actually need to take the part with the screws off, you can just feed the cables up the back of it. Hope that helps others.
I love it now you are also trying and installing new 'things' to your Tesla as your videos are so much more honest, by that I mean you genuinely are doing it first hand and it shows your true thoughts. I have like many, seen other vids (and there are plenty of them) but the fumbling and chuntering make it real. i.e. love the 'there are no refit instructions' .. great point! 👍(No disrespect btw, I would be exactly the same if not worse, but it gives me confidence to actually try it) Looks good though 😀
@@justgetatesla G'Day Ian. One of the big issues is stuff getting in the air vents on the floor. I have installed a small plastic mesh (eBay or AliExpress have them) on each side to prevent this problem. Evidently, once stuff gets in there it's almost impossible to get them out, plus they can roll around and vibrate which can be annoying (to some, including me). 🙂 Regards, Greg, from Australia.
Looks nice but personally I would never fit any part that isn’t made and endorsed by Tesla. Especially when you have to link it to the electrical system. Might cause issues down the line. Good informative video.
Thank you for the vid. What do I think? I think I would have preferred the video be edited without the fumbling around, but rather a cohesive series of steps on how to install it. I think since you bothered to experiment with prying the pieces off with difficulty, you could offer us tips on proper form, location of pry points, proper prying motion, expected prying force, what to expect, etc. I think you would benefit by putting a camera on your head so you can use two hands. I think I would have preferred you go through the whole system and show the actual features of the screen. I still don't know how the fan system works with the touch screen and the vents. I don't know what features of the Tesla you can access with the screen and how it compares to the Tesla UI. I don't know what all those menus are. Can you configure it for your right-drive Tesla? How do you get the audio to work through the car? This video should have been less bumbling through the install and a more thorough description of the features.
Feedback is a gift, so my genuine thanks for posting it. I have a choice of how to make videos on this channel, and having not done many of these install videos I watched ones made by others. Some people are fast / slick. Some sound like they’re reading a script. Some going into more detail than I am interested in. My take? I *am* a bumbler when it comes to doing this kind of thing. I cut an awful lot of material out to get this edit. I appreciate ut isn’t your cup of tea - and I’ll certainly make changes to future install videos if I shoot them. But the overall feedback has been positive. Sorry it wasn’t quite your cup of tea. To be brutally honest, I don’t watch install videos made by other people as they aren’t that interesting. So I take your point about mine!
Yep, I’d like one of those. But your patience in re-arranging the electric bowl of spaghetti confirms to me that I would rather have root canal treatment than do this kind of job myself. But I dare say there is someone out there who will do it for me.
Nice job, very i formative and entertaining. Ira a shame that the depiction of the car interior is shown as landscape instead of the more intuitive portrait.
Thanks for the vid and link Ian. I would like to see a vid that shows the operation of all the screen's features (eg. I didn't know you can set the rear cabin temp to a different setting than the front. Limitations?). Also why is the Android Auto there? And what was the USB A-ti-C adapter for?
I know someone (i.e. Ian) who has all the bits you need to get rid of yours if you feel it is a waste of time. A bit like the rear seats in my Model Y - I never use them !
We have kids and the only things I’d want is for them to turn the fans on/off, or the heated seats. I can’t think why they’d need to adjust the front seats? I’d love a simplified “kids” version of this.
Noooo...the BIG thing missing from my Model Y is all the features that should have been there when I ordered that were subsequently dropped because of the switch to vision.
@@greghudson9717 sort of. The removal of USS, the ultrasonic sensors in late 2022 delivered cars here means that they're restricted to vision only. For RHD markets, that's means no auto park, no summon. Probably a little harder for you but when I take the car across to the European continent and drive on the other side of the road, then auto park is available because it's based on FSD which is trained on LHD data. Cross back into the UK, dumb car again. Those features were described as coming soon for vehicles ordered before mid 2022. Two years later and no hope yet.
Whilst I get the frustration with features being missing, I don’t complain about them because I don’t want autopark. Had it on previous cars, used it once
@@justgetatesla I complain about it because I paid for it! Vision based autopark works pretty well but needs the car driving into continental Europe to use it which makes a round trip to park at the shops for the weekly shop a bit of a bummer :)
@@justgetatesla ahh ok, I thought about buying this to entertain the kids on a roadtrip but I guess it doesn’t has any advantage over an iPad hanging at the back of a front seat then.
How so please as I would like to do this amongst other modifications, however everything I read in Tesla’s T&C’s for the warranty suggest that fitting of non Tesla parts and modifications will make any remaining warranty null and void! ☹️ Very interested to learn how you managed to maintain the manufacturers warranty please?
Because you cannot invalidate a warranty - at least in the UK - by plugging something into it. The manufacturer would have to demonstrate that your connected item caused the thing to fail that your warranty claim is for. Legal situation in other jurisdictions may vary!
Literally no regular Tesla owners is going to do this. Beware - this install or anything like it requires at least some skills in installing electronics in a car

Well done getting it fitted and sorting the wires!
More successful than the headlight ppf attempt 😅, your vids are superb..
How is this screen working since you installed it? Can you show some clips pls?
Are they going to add a bit more on how to put it all back together again and advise where to route the cabling after your feedback?
Good job👍 you might want to hover under the front seats while your there🤮
🤣🤣😂
Yeah, step 1, clean the car interior
Or hoover.
I know I know. I don’t have the right mini nozzle and tbh it doesn’t like remotely that bad in the real world. Looks MUCH worse in the edit!

You can run Android Auto and Car Play on this screen. Adaptor is so you can plug in USB-A items
Good vido just one thing dount say how much
Different prices in different markets!
At 12:19 the screen showed a US /EU seat layout but at 14:33 its UK. Also 4.20am? Can you clarify?
I updated the settings
Does this allow passengers to watch videos while the car is being driven ?
Yes!
Been thinking about this myself. But, I've almost never got anyone in the back.
Reverse Order would be the reasonable way to do it
Maybe vacuum the surrounding of the rear of your exposed centre console would e been smart before finally assembling it all?
Yup
Hi, does this have implications with regards to the car warranty
No sir!
I have a highland and the screen in the back is never used because I do not have kids so it is like nice to have for me really.

For £280 worth doing and you can remove it when you change your car unless its a much newer one.
How does it connect to the internet? Can it use the cars data plan?
Great question. Sadly there is no way to tether any device to the car's data plan

Whilst it looks good and is useful I worry about it been damaged by kids /passenger feet or when transporting big heavy objects
Don’t worry about big / heavy objects. The seats fold down and protect it
Now that you have modified your car have you informed your insurance company 😢
No way would I consider doing that to my car! Just get an iPad for the kids in the back

Because I prefer the black interior
Too Expensive
