BXpanded Quick-On Backhoe Bucket Connector Installation and Use (#66)

  • Does BXpanded stand behind their products? Yes they do! My first quick-on bucket connector broke while I was digging a trench for a gutter drain pipe in the back of my new shop. To be fair, I was digging up a lot of rock, but this kind of failure surprised me. I sent an email to BXpanded with a few pictures of the failure. A couple of days later they contacted me saying they would send me a new one after I shipped the broken one back. I did and they did indeed ship me the replacement as promised.
    In this video, I show the installation of the new one and how to use it.

      Thank you, Dave! FYI, that replacement connector broke as well in the same way and I ended up welding it back together and reinforcing it with 3/8” plates on the sides. It has held up very well so far. Here’s the link to the repair video: ua-cam.com/video/UoujwF3RKy4/v-deo.html. Thanks for watching!

    Martin, you need the special tool that I have when I'm doing something I need four hands. I also have a thumb on my backhoe and it went pretty well when I put the quick-on connector on my backhoe. Oh, the special tool I use, my wife.

      Hi Gord! The backhoe has been a great investment and so much fun! If you have a lot of digging projects like I do, it can make sense to buy one. If it’s just the occasional digging project, renting a machine makes better sense. Thanks for watching!

    I’m not sure I understand the time/cost ratio. Instead of removing two bucket pins, putting on another bucket and putting the pins back in, you are taking out one pin? Since you have to get a wrench anyway (since you are using a nut and bolt), it is saving the time of one pin?

    • @DIYMyWay
      @DIYMyWay  2 роки тому +1

      Having changed out the bucket before having the quick connect, the quick connect is quicker and easier, faster still with a lynchpin but as I discovered, the lynchpin is all but guaranteed to come out with use. Plus, now I’ve learned to hook the bucket with the backhoe and pick it up, then just install the pin. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Martin, I am a first time viewer. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us! I loved your calm, understated manner and sense of humor. I also watched your video on how the Bxpanded bracket broke. No one can argue how good of an idea it is, I love it. And the company stands behind their product, so good to see. But there is no way this bracket should have broke even with rocky soil. The metal must be of insufficient grade quality for this demanding application. I was very close to buying it but don't see the point now. I dig up stumps often and the forces that puts on the bh77 will probably break the bracket. I am quite disappointed. Thank you for being the trail blazer with this. As always, great video.

    I been wanting this same set up for my tractor. just need to save up the money. how long does it take from the time you place the order until delivery? I hear its a fairly long wait time for products from bxpanded. is that true? what are your feelings?

    • @DIYMyWay
      @DIYMyWay  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Dave! I don’t remember having to wait very long for the first quick-on connector and the replacement shipped out a couple of days after they received the broken one. The thumb came in a couple weeks. I suspect lead times are getting longer because the demand for their products is growing faster than they can scale production. It’s a common problem with young successful companies. Thanks for watching!

    • @DIYMyWay
      @DIYMyWay  4 роки тому +2

      BTW, the thumb was the last thing I got and that was a year ago. Wait times could well be longer now.

    Looks like a great design, only thing that botherin me is how you mounted it, looks like you need to 180 the quick connect so you dont hafta lift the bucket.

    • @DIYMyWay
      @DIYMyWay  4 роки тому

      Actually, if the bucket is laying face down, I can hook it and pick it up with the backhoe itself, then insert the other pin.. So I don’t have to pick up the bucket if I’m not in the mood. The bucket is not that heavy, anywho. Thanks for watching!

    • @DIYMyWay
      @DIYMyWay  4 роки тому

      Na, it’s just you. Seriously, technically it does a little since it places the bucket a little further from the pivot, but I can’t tell the difference so it is well worth it to me to be able to quickly change buckets or put on my root ripper.

  • @deonbrewis8876
    @deonbrewis8876 4 роки тому +1

    Is there a specific reason you're installing the quick-on in reverse? (BXpanded instructions is to install it with the open end facing the tractor). Do you find it easier to put on attachments with it mounted in reverse?

    • @DIYMyWay
      @DIYMyWay  4 роки тому

      It’s not on backwards, That’s how they made them at that time. However, I have noticed that they swapped the hook end in more recent models, presumably so you can just hook the bucket with the backhoe, then pin it. My solution to that with mine is just to have the bucket laying face down on the ground. Then I can still hook it with the BH to pick it up then put the other pin in. Swapping the hook end seems like an improvement. Thanks for watching!
