Been my unicorn for the last 27,000 miles and 11 BDR's. I'll be riding it for LAB2V this weekend. Couldn't imagine taking another bike on the stuff I've been doing. Oh, and not a single mechanical failure during that time.
It is so refreshing to hear someone talk honestly about not needing electronic rider aids. The tenere 700 now has a lot of competitors and for the most part they are all computers on 2 wheels.
I started riding motorcycles 3 years ago and I bought the Tenere 700. I have done 2 long trips and weekend rides. My first trip I left from Quebec to Vancouver for a distance of 10300km in 12 days and the second I left Quebec to Alaska via Pruedhoe Bay (Dalton Highway) and Tuktoyaktuk (Dempster highway) for a total of 18941km in 22 days. This bike is perfect. Never had a problem. This bike is so simple that I do all my maintenance myself. Brakes, valve check, bearing swingarm, wheels, sprocket chain etc. It has plenty of tutorial to learn. It is now at 54000km. Next trip Quebec to Colorade to climb as many passes as possible. Duration of the trip 21 days. I look forward to next summer. Thanks for your video. I love my T7
I agree with everything you said in this very thoughtful video, except possibly the seat comment. However, I stand up a lot when riding this bike and have kept most highway rides shorter than 2-3 hours. Like you said, I was one that was looking forward to buying one ever since I test rode one in 2019, and I got frustrated trying to buy one in 2022. I'd put down a deposit at a local dealer for Feb/March and nothing came in by May when riding season was well underway. So, I went to the Aprilla dealer nearby and they had 3 Tuaregs so I bought one of those. The Tenere showed up the next day, so I ended up with one of each. I put ~2000 miles on each, mostly BDR and TAT type of riding in Virginia, WV, and PA. In the end, I only wanted to keep one and went with the Tuareg knowing that the Tenere would be easiest to sell-I sold it for just about the out the door price. Then, knowing the risk of a poor dealer network and a not yet established reliability record for the Aprilia, I rode the Tuareg from VA to NM and AZ, and then wanted to head up to WY to do that newly announced WY BDR. The Tuareg developed starting problems in Colorado just before getting into Wyoming and I had to rent a U Haul to bring it back home. I brought it to my dealer where it has been for almost two months now. They say they've got it started ok, but that it still isn't running right. Ironically, I went back to riding my DRZ400 for the end of the 2022 season and when picking up some maintanence items discovered that my yamaha/suzuki dealer got one more unexpected 2022 Tenere in their inventory in October --- So, I just bought another Tenere 700, maybe the last 2022 in the Virginia area? The main difference to me between the Tenere and Taureg, off road is that magical swing arm configuration of the Tenere that makes it feel like a real dirtbike--- it is so fun off road and does feel like a DRZ400, a big DRZ for sure. The Tuareg never put that smile on my face the way the Tenere does --- I very much like the Tuareg's cruise control for the long stretch of interstate I did on my way out to the Rockies.... too bad it didn't get me to the WY BDR or home : ( I hope somebody finds this useful as it's been a bit of a bit of a slog trying to get the "perfect" midsize do-it-all adventure bike. I should say, I grew up in the South West riding dessert bikes and love those long cross country off road rides going as fast as I can without risking damaging falls (mechanical or physical... ; ) Most days I am successful, but definitely not always. Both bikes need a good bash plate and crash bars in my view. Everything else is personal preference.
I agree. I also tried to buy a T7 but settled for a Tuareg 660, and the Tuareg is a great bike, but parts and the dealer network is a real issue. My Aprilia dealership didn't respond to me when the bike wouldn't shift down from 6th gear exiting a freeway. Still, loved the bike for its cruise control, tubeless tires, and comfort. I will take issue with the Dork on the price for the T7. Because they are so hard to find, they sell over the price for a new Tuareg, so the value consideration really isn't there unless you get lucky. I sold the Tuareg and have replaced it with a used Honda 450L, which I am heavily modding. I can trust the Honda to work when riding off-road and can easily pick it up when I fall over. Something I can't do alone with most middle weight adventure bikes. Be nice if they could make a twin cylinder bike under 400 lbs. (like the new Fantic Caballero 700, with the Yamaha CP2 engine).
Dang. Too bad you got stranded. I like the Tuareg and have cross shopped it but your story and few others has me believing that it would be best to stick with something smaller and reliable like a 300L until the Tenere is more readily available and priced correctly. I know, not the same class.
Thank you for that comparison w the Tuareg. Many of us I’m sure have been wondering about these two. I too was questioning the reliability & access to dealers & parts for Aprilia. And for me down the road seems like a big decider. All the other cons to the T7 seem surmountable.
If you can find it, though it is becoming a little more common. Still a little too tall and heavy for me. I would also like to say that the true unicorn motorcycle is the motorcycle that makes you want to ride every road and make new roads.
I started riding 3 years ago on a 2006 KLR and got my hands on a 2022 t7 this summer. What an amazing ride on and off-road. You nailed the pros and cons for sure. It's definitely top heavy but not really anything I think about while riding. So far the only time I've dropped mine was unloading it from my truck when I brought it home lmao. I was nervous, excited, and just rushed backing it down the ramp and it went over in the grass. First scuff on the exhaust without putting a single kilometer on it lmao
I had my dealer on watch when they released them. I got to test ride the first one they ever got. A boy do i regret not buying it. I was just getting back into riding after a 7 year spell.

I've owned mine for one year now and 6,000 miles. Terrific bike and I'm a dirt rider not a street guy, however this bike has opened my world to longer range trips and freeway travel. I own 5 bikes and all of them have the Seat Concepts seats on them except the T7. I bought the Yamaha Rally seat and I love it. For me, its comfortable and I've had no complaints with it...zero. Amazing they could build a decent seat. You have a problem with your tires because my brother and I both have Motoz Rallz front and rear and around 35-40 mph they make a bunch of noise but above 55 we can't hear them at all and I don't wear earplugs. Maybe the wind noise drowns it out but I don't believe the noise could overcome the riders ears lol.. You never touched on the real black cloud on this bike... the rear brake. When you come off a dirt bike and saddle up the T7 you would swear the rear brake is disconnected lol.. I have ordered the Camel ADV rear brake lever so im excited to see if it works as well as they say. I did heavier springs and Racetech valving and I think it improved the bike a ton but we ride fairly aggressively. You're video was pretty spot-on and I have the same thoughts on people telling me their bikes have more performance at 50% more cost. They had better be offering more for that price. Long live the T7!
I have a 2021 T7, and commute with it daily. Amazing bike, spot on review. I wouldnt trade mine for anything, and the CAMEL ADV tank was a stellar upgrade. Perfectly designed for the coming apocalypse in Cali. Keep up the great work!
I've owned my T7 for almost exactly a year now, and I think you're spot on with this review. The engine is more than strong enough but won't pull your arms out like the KTM, Desert X, etc. The engine noise is AWESOME, and I love knowing the bike will reliably get me anywhere I need to go which I don't feel about the KTM. I think it rides just fine on road contrary to what others say. Off road is very good, but the weight and top-heaviness make it more prone to tipping. Most of the mods I've done are just for protection: Camel high-exhaust, Heed Bunker crash bars are very strong, Camel skid plate, and Bark Busters. Camel kickstand spring is about an $8 fix to an annoyingly floppy kickstand. Adjustable windshield is very useful, and a rear luggage rack gives you options for a tail bag or top case. Love the bike, and I plan to keep it for years to come!
This is my first ever adventure bike and I absolutely love it! I’ve only ridden smaller dual sports before this bike but it is so easy to learn on and more maneuverable than you think. Can definitely agree it’s a confidence booster kind of motorcycle 😃
I own a gs1200, a T7and a CRF300. and love them all. the gs is a great tourer, the T7 that one bike that does it all and the crf300 make me go to places i wouldnt try with the t7 because of weight. But i agree the t7 ist great. I need the crf300 to learn harder offroad because i cant pick up the t7 10 times in one day, thats how bad a rider i am.
I have had my T7 for 18 months. Very accurate review. I am also a larger rider. Added springs front and rear, lowered 20 mm. Seat Concepts with an Air Hawk is about perfect. I did just install the Acerbis 22 L tank. Think I am done with farkles except for the brake pedal from Camel Adventure.
Um, more like 90lbs lighter; that's with a bit less fuel, but the DR doesn't need heavy crash bars. And it's not top-heavy, and easily lowered. And more than half the HP. Ever so slightly more. ; )
Had the pleasure of renting a Tenere 700 in South Africa and Botswana. Perfect bike for riding in the sands and bush of Africa. Never really noticed the top heaviness and the power delivery and stability were spot on for the sandy conditions. Spongy rear brake and seat my only niggles. Excellent review that highlighted the appeal of this bike.👍
My only complaints were the squishy suspension when loaded down. Rented one and rode through Arizona. Metal panniers loaded with food water and clothes. Plus a big duffel bag strapped to the back. Everytime I sat on the bike it saged heavily. It's seat height being so tall as well, I came close to tipping over a few times mounting and dismounting on unlevel terrain lol.
I can not tell you, how excited I am to get my T700 in 4 days, after having a break from cycling for about 8 years. And clips like yours tell me: "Yeah, I made a great choice." Thx a lot for your great clip!
About the seat. I was going to change it, but then got an sw-motech air pillow thingie for it, and that made it surprisingly comfy. I did Norway south to north, with some full days back to back, and had no problems. A new seat maybe on the horizon but that air pillow is a surprisingly good quick fix for those longer rides.
Great review!! The Tenere 700 is the one bike that I have decided to upgrade more than any other bike I've owned because it is the true "do all' bike. In the process of upgrading to the Rally Raid suspension and also going to add an MC Cruise and then this bike will be officially ready for the long haul adventure trips IMO. After all is said and done I'll have around 14k in the bike and have a machine that has bulletproof reliability, a few creature comforts, and fantastic suspension. Keep up the great content!!
I’ve been building mine ever since finally, unintentionally, coming upon a new one I had been on a list for. Upgrades so far are: Outback motortek crash bars(red), AXP skid plate, barkbusters, 8.9 rear spring, Kriega 18+18+18 OS bags, 2-6 liter kriega bags(mounting to crash bars), HP corse full exhaust-SP high mount (black titanium), “The fix” camel adv brake lever, camel adv anti wobble, alt rider(?) adjustable windscreen adapter, motoz rallZ tires. Will probably upgrade the suspension eventually as soon as my skill level out paces the suspension. It’s an awesome bike and with how “cheap” it is compared to other adv bikes, it leaves quite a budget for all the necessary fixes, upgrades, and accoutrements before you even get close to a similar priced bike such as the 790/890 Ktm.
Great review. I think that’s why the KLR does so well in sales. This is a more capable bike for sure. In my opinion the less tech the better especially off road. Less to go wrong when things go wrong. I’m not the best off road, I usually crash my dirt bike when I take it out but I can’t kill it, it just keeps going.
This bike is the Goldilocks between my old Tenere 1200 and the built DR 650 I had. Got out today for a few hours riding some techy two track with a full fuel load on the new 6 gallon Acerbis tank. A little bit noticeable, but not too much, and the 300 mile range more than makes up for a little more weight when fully filled.
Dude! Chewie again! Great video. I’ve really been looking forward to you doing this video on the T7. I haven’t. Ridden one, but looking at specs the things that jump out are what you mention, no front only ABS and no cruise control. Other than that, this thing is damn near perfect specs wise. The statement “feels like a dual sport” is a big one. I had a KTM 890R and never felt that way, although it was great feeling off road compared to most ADVs.
I've owned a T7 and I have to say that for me, it was nothing like a dual sport... Weight is massive compared to them, and yes, very top heavy, much worse than the 890.
Hey there! After extensive research and sleeping on it and much of that is thanks to your honest opinions i picked up my 1st adv bike...and chose the t7. This is a new life being introduced to me as ive grown up around harleys and other cruisers. Branched into sport bikes as well. But there was a "go anywhere at anytime and not have to turn around " feeling i was looking for! Thanks for the efforts you put into reviews and keeping it casual. It really helps weigh the options!
Nice review I thought the same thing about the stock seat when I first got my Tenere. I stuck it out and after a few thousand miles the stock seat broke in nicely and now that it's broke in it's an all day seat with no discomfort.
It’s your butt that broke in 😂 I rode the TAT on my 2021 T7 and my butt was hurting by day three but then went away. I have 24,000 miles on her now still on the stock seat.
I wanted a T7 back in 2020, but they were, and still are, impossible to find. I ended up tricking out a 701 and love it, but it was stupidly expensive. Good therapy during lockdowns, though. Great video BTW.
I’m still torn on the t7, Africa twin. The twin would be basically a road bike for me but I would hit fire trails and explore for new camp sites. I plan on keeping my drz for the trails. The t7 probably sucks with a passenger but it’s probably so much fun on the trails and canyon riding.
I was on a 2 year waiting list for one. 1.5 months in, I get a call from the dealership. All 10 people in front of me backed out! So now I have one finally…but now there’s a foot of snow on the ground and it’s 10 degrees F out. 😆 That being said, I was able to take it out for a couple trips and wow, it’s incredible. If you can handle the wait to find one, do so. It’s incredibly easy to handle on some moderately difficult terrain and is so much fun!
Rented one when I was in Vegas for a buisness trip. Did about 900 miles through Arizona durinf my 2 days off. Through highway, canyons, desert and forrest roads. I fell in love with it. I was ready to buy it outright then and there if they let me lol.
The problem with most reviews of this bike is that most of the reviews are out west. I live in the Midwest. I don't need a huge capacity gas tank. The off road riding area is 30 minutes from my house. I need a bike that I can ride around town and ride light offroad. I don't plan on any extensive road time. You would think from other reviews and comments the 700 is unridable without suspension work. I've been considering a 700 for some time and after watching this review I've got to have one! Thank you for the honest review and showing that it is a capable bike from the showroom.
The suspension is fully adjustable. I'm 190 and adjusted it slightly stiffer than stock. It seems good to go to me, but to each their own. Tackle rocky trails in CO with no problems outside of rider skill level.

I own a Tenere 700. It fell in my lap and I brought it on Tuesday of this week. Love it. Super duper capable. I was worried it wouldn't be as capable as it ended up being.
I just found my own T7 and got it brand new with 2 miles. One of only 6 in the state being sold this month. I knew enough about em, and I just needed to grab it. Absolutely a great machine.
Once the scalpers quit and supply catches up I will be getting one. Until then my CRF300L Rally will bring a smile to my face each morning. I am on track to ride 10K miles a year just commuting and running around town. Would love the extra power for the road and don't want a full fat ADV bike since I occasionally hit single track.
I must say you where spot on with the T7. Thank you for the honesty. I was torn between this and the transalp. A t7 fell in my lap new 23 model and I love it. I love everything it is and isn't just like you put it!
Great review! I have a 2021 with 24,000 miles and absolutely no issues. Full exhaust, De-cat reflash and 0-75 Mph it runs neck and neck with an 890R in Rally Mode. After 77 mph the 890 pulled away. I have lofted the front at 30 mph and rode it out to 78 mph. 117 mpg on gravel roads. Best of all is the power delivery. With that low end grunt you don’t have to shift it as often as the 890. I rode the entire TAT and hell’s revenge and Slickrock in Moab. I am was very impressed with the T7. I’m still interested in the 901 Expedition as a second bike though.

Owned mine for almost 2 years. 14k miles, 2 bdrs, ridden more than 50% in the dirt. It is the brand champion. Reliable, and perfect in every way. Just my opinion.
I keep one in Europe and every summer I ride through Europe and Africa. In the USA I have a GS Adv. Best bikes for each terrain. I have driven 40k km overseas in two summers. The Tenere is a miracle. It cannot be stalled. It has torque everywhere. Almost like an electric motor. The throttle is your friend off road. Your best friend. There is nothing you can’t power through. I have stalled half a dozen times on my GS Adv (which has a motor nearly twice as large). In 40k km I have had zero issues.
Got the call today from dealer, unexpectedly, and threw my deposit at them as fast as I could. Didn't think that was going to ever happen so kept looking at a lot of other options. Just couldn't pull the trigger on anything. I guess patience paid off. This video is very well done and validates all the reasons why I want this bike. Appreciate watching it multiple times.
I’m glad to hear you are happy with the stock suspension on this bike. Being a bigger guy myself that’s one thing I was pretty concerned about but hearing your positive thoughts is promising. My heart has been set on a T7 for awhile now but the Tuareg kept pulling me away. After watching this I think I’m back to being fully set on the T7
They're actually NOT super hard to find. They WERE. There are multiples in my area and many for sale, new and used, throughout the country. My advice: buy used w/ low mileage...can be had for under $10K or for between $10K and $12K with very nice accessories.
How many miles did you put on this Tenere? I tried the Seat concepts seat, Meh. Loved them on my other bikes, not this one. I went with the Sargent seat, wider and way more comfortable. Stock tires are great for street and gravel traction, but wear out way too fast. Lots of great points! My black Tenere is a keeper. Nice & informative video. Ronny
Love my T7. For everyone who has one and dislikes the look of the dash. Check out the color clusterz lcd flip kit. Just did it on mine and it looks 10x better. They also have rpm and color change kits.
I’ve had a T7 for 17 months- Love the bike . My BMW GSA is not sitting 1/2 the time. If I’m doing anything off-road. The Tenere is what I choose. I may go to a 300 Enduro just to sharpen my dirt skills. But they are so uncomfortable.
I bought mine new from May 2023, T7 rally edition in Europe, It's easy to find one new or used, a lot of old dudes buying this and sell because it's too radical for them. Only downside is you may not have the luxury of color picking, I had to buy the rally edition or world raid, no standard edition within at least 6 months and not even sure he was. So I choose to buy the first one, white red rally edition with a useless and expensive exhaust, but I drilled the carbon exhaust, took the baffles out and no regret, smile on my face when it starts.
The top heaviness is the only problem I have with the T7. I feel like it’s at its tipping point just as the side stand touches the ground. A majority of the riding I do is in the dirt and it’s very easy to tip over in my experience on technical terrain. If you lose momentum or get knocked off your line on technical terrain and try to dab but by the time your foot may be able to touch the ground it’s already too late.

@@TheJaxsonjack I had a 1190 before with 80K km without any major problem. I have friends with the 790/890 platform riding hard without any problem. I just have 10K km on mine but no problem For me, the performance needs exceed the boring reliability. Performance on this is awesome!!
Great review! I got my T7 using pure luck back in June and promptly put 4,000 miles on it just commuting to work! Life got in the way so I didn't get to do much adventure riding on it yet but bombing some dirt roads and looking for trouble in some fields brought me back to my dirt biking days. it is a great bike over all and they balanced street and off road performance like no one else before. thanks for another entertaining video!
I 'm glad to hear this because I always get to the same point, as an ex F 800 gs 2010 owner, I can say that there's nothing new in the tenere that the BMW didn't have, that bike started this whole midleweight adeventure bike madness because it was so good and still is but nobody seems to remember it.
@@ferkuzuel I mean, I was able to get my '12 with only 18K miles. It's got tons of life left in it. Also, the other benefit over the T7: I was able to get one.
I’ve had mine for a year now. I flashed the ECU and removed the entire ABS system including the pump. New stainless brake lines. First gear is a little tall in the tight technical stuff so I’m going to add two teeth to the rear. The muffler hanger is a joke and will bend the first time you drop the bike. I put on a full stainless exhaust including the high route muffler at cat delete. It really didn’t make it much louder and is a lot lighter and less prone to bending. Stock tires do OK on Rocky trails but move around quite a bit on fire roads and looser or muddier conditions. I removed the turn signals and put on a tail tidy to clean up the rear end. I’m getting ready to add a Garmin Sumo X2. It’s a fun and very capable bike but never forget that it’s not a dirtbike. When it starts to go over it’s hard to keep it up. Gas mileage is incredibly good..
Just got my t7 a few days ago. This is my first bike. It was the only bike over 300cc that the dealership had in stock that was an adv bike. I dont know much about bikes but damn its really fun to ride. Lots of torque also.
I sold my t7. Nice bike but to heavy and top heavy at that as you mentioned (for me). I'm holding out for the KTM 490 Adventure. Looking for that modern drz. Some day:)
The bike is being used by dealers I had one set aside and when they told me 13.499 2022 I said nope 10.499 is what they should sell for at the Dealership/ I bought a 2018 with 600miles KTM 690 enduro R for under 10.000 So im a little soured on that bike. Around Bend Oregon out on 2 wheels
I was told 10400 for mine too. So I went in to buy it and it came to 11,200 after “taxes and assembly” even though I live in a state with no sales tax. Oh well, it’s still worth it.
Great review; I agree with everything said except the stock seat works much better for me than the one piece Seat Concepts which made my butt numb within 30 miles every time I rode on it. I've owned my T7 for 18 months and over 10k miles, and it's undoubtably the best bike I've ever owned. Just traded my R1200GS for an RT because of the T7, as their missions were too similar and the GS was just sitting in the corner more and more as I couldn't stay off the T7.
I test rode it a while back on a 150 mile dirt loop. It’s a Goldilocks bike. Not expensive but not cheap. Not fun but not boring. Not heavy but not light. Good on road as it is off, you’re not sacrificing in either direction. Impossible to stall in 2nd down low. Great standing position Suspension is fine unless you wanna race it. Sounds mean Gears are a bit clunky. More aftermarket peeps need to make front and back fairings. Not just front. Stock grips are shit.
I have had an Africa Twin AS, currently own a GSA1200R, a 2022 CRF450R. Ive ridden the Pan America and a KTM 690R. I rented a Tenere 700 from MotoVermont and rode it for 3 days on one of their private tours. I enjoyed it. I felt it had a smooth powerband, smooth transmission, solid suspension. I did not like the lack of electronics package which I am spoiled and expect in 2022. It felt top heavy and was a hair tall for me, being on the shorter side of most. I think its a great bike for the MSRP, if you could only get one for somewhere near MSRP. I dont really like it as much for 13k. Its not that light for a 700 and it doesnt feel that light. It had some defects with the muffler mounts breaking the frame. I think its a great bike for $10,500 if you could get it. I love that Blue color. I love how reliable and simple it is. Bottom line, I would reach up a little and get a 890 or pickup a used 790 if I was shopping this class. Tall, top heavy with a great powerband and good stock suspension.
Re: availability of the T7, I'm seeing more and more of these come up on the used market, many of which are very low miles. Several reasonably priced and a couple even from dealers. You may have to be willing to travel, but you can get your hands on one of you really want it.
This video, once again, sealed the deal on what I keep coming back to... this IS the unicorn. Thanks for giving us your viewpoint on the top heaviness. That was biggest factor, for me, on looking elsewhere. I had a 2019 Africa Twin AS with a ridiculous seat height and a feeble 31-inch inseam, even with an aftermarket Sargent seat and some disco KISS ADV boots. It makes for a few hysterical stories after a few cold ones. Relieved that, yeah, it's a thing but not a deal breaker since our inseams are similar. Well done video and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
A friend's step son actually bought this bike on the 29th November 2023 . Blue, looks great and it's a Yamaha. My friend and I are mainly Harley Davidson riders I also have a Honda CTX 700. I personally love Honda and Yamaha out of the big 4. So even my brother and his wife are into these sorts of bikes . She rides a 1200 Triumph tiger , him a Honda 1300 CTX but they also just bought two Royal Enfield Himalayans. They love the off road thing like you and have plenty of options off road in NY State. Me personally even if I wanted to buy a bike like this every one I've ever tried to throw my leg over it's not happening. Way too tall and I am like 5'7ish . So I'm sure he has bought a bullet proof bike just like my little Honda CTX because as we know you really can't beat the Japanese for reliability. 👍
I keep coming back to this video and it probably still the king. I REALLY like the Tuareg too, but I am struggling with trusting Aprilia’s reliability. I am planning to try to go sit on one this afternoon (rental fleet) to see how it fits my 5’6” body lol. Thanks for your candor. 👍🏾
Out the door that bike is at least 12 k. I've had this bike for about 2 years now and one thing I like about it is that there is a ton of aftermarket parts available for this bike.
I mean if u never tried any other adv bike, it will feel good for sure. But for the price it's really bad proposal, it's just too expensive for what it offers , there are way better options
all true, I currently own a 2021 and 2023 Tenere 700. the 2021 has 25,000 miles on it and its solid. I don't like the weak rear brake lever, and seems fixed wiht cameladv. I had a crf450l and sold it within a few months because its not what I like. I had a wr450f at the time, but now I rock the ktm 500 for those niche. I never thought I'd say it, but I LOVE the ktm 500. But my fav bike of all bikes...I've ever owned, is a 2019 husky te300i. I have 7 bikes and I take the 2 stroke out the most. Sometimes I have to hold my nose and ride adventure bikes...and then I take the t7...the least suckie adventure bike known to man. I owned an africa twin for a couple of years, owned the t7 for about a year at the same time and ALWAYS took the t7 for "jobs" and left the africa twin home. Its like the africa twin is a 690...not good at anything, the t7 is the ideal weapon for BDRs IMO. I've put about 4000 miles on a tenere 1200 and really like it and I'm trying to figure out how to get my t7 to act like a t1200 in gusts of high winds...19/17 wheel set? likely a function of height and weight (sounds like a girl friend joke). The t7 seat isn't so bad IMO, I have not upgraded it...but use the airhawk for long distance rides. Please help FoxyMCrider

Great video, been waiting for this one. I got my T7 in July and it has been awesome. You summed up pretty much all of how I feel about the T7. I also got extremely lucky to get my reservation and it still took 6 months for delivery. If you can find one, get it.
I picked up my '21 (in Blue) in October last year after being on your favorite dealership's waitlist for 6 months. I made the mistake of riding it during the Yamaha ride day they had in April of 2021, and I fell for it instantly. I've never felt such confidence simply hitting gravel strewn across pavement. I've definitely not put the most miles on my bike, but right after I hit 1000 miles this year I took it out to Tillamook. This probably wasn't three best idea since my only other off road experiences were on quads in the sand, but holy crap can this bike carry a doofus around the forest and compensate for a complete lack of skills! Dropped this tall and top heavy bike about 3 times too many, but I had a blast and it put up with the light damage with no fuss. I plan on commuting a lot more worn it, likely even through our cold and wet winter here in the PNW!
For just a bit more money I feel the Aprilia Toureg more than delivers over the T700. It has more power, better suspension, cruise control, off road ABS, lower center of gravity, better range, tubeless tires and you can actually buy one. Many of the T700's are still being sold for over MSRP, which makes the cost differential to the Aprilia even smaller. Obvious potential drawbacks to the Aprilia are the overall lack of dealer network and potential reliability issues. Only time will tell on both of those. When the time comes for me to move on from my Adv'd KTM 690 Enduro, I'll most likely pick the Aprilia...
The stock seat is bad? An EXC500F and CFR450L are bad. This seat may not have touring bike comfort, but I was so happy with it after having owned those other two bikes... by comparison the Tenere seat is a couch. Anyhow, great content. I got a '24 and agree these things are awesome. I recently had traded off my 890 ADV-R, and no regrets. I like the T7 better.
As someone who has driven primarily on road across a good portion of the country on the T7 I can honestly say. . . I recommend being 5'9" to fully take advantage of this bike. It does handle just fine on road though.
The reiteration they’re finally bringing to the US definitely helps it compete better amongst the current mid weight class. Can’t wait to see what availability looks like.
Right said, well described. Nice video. I absolutely love my T7. After one year and 12.000 km got no complaints at all. Its a beast - be aware - it may be talking to you "hey try again with more gas", "come on - i show you we can make it better". Just kidding - but you are absolutely right saying that the bike makes you a better rider. No other bike that i had, made go out for training my basic skills. 😉 The T7 will not let you down so detours to explore are part of the game. Cons: i remember 3. Top heavy yes. Does that hold me back No. As long as you keep moving no problem. Availability seems to be no problem in germany, but I suffer with you guys. Its horrendous - riders buy italian insted of proven qual. However I would never buy an italian or any other bike just because it looks better on the fact sheet. Some short range tests out there sound pretty encouraging though. We will see, if the Tuareg or the Desert X will prove that italian bikes can reach a certain level of liabilty for endurance. Why did the great Cagiva Elephant disapear? It has proven to be a great bike for the dakar rally. It was beautifully designed with love to detail, it was a dream bike, but it could not compete with the japanese quality, the price was too high so the dakar winners yamaha and honda kept selling enduros and adv bikes. IMHO seat comfort is funny topic. Every butt is different. BTW i like the seat. Safe and happy rides. Cheers

Three years ago I, then totally unfamiliar with dual sport bikes and riding...i.e. getting into this as a newby guided by guesswork...went through the painful process of choosing between a used DRZ400 and a used WR250R (I've never had much money, something that's not likely to change so I have to choose wisely if I want to play.) What I discovered was that what made the difference between the bikes depended mainly on the size and weight of the rider, skill level being equal between the riders demonstrating the bikes. The bigger heavier rider found the DRZ fit him best. The lighter rider preferred the WR. But doesn't this make sense? I am 5' 7" and weigh 150 pounds. A T7? I don't think so. You look to me to be a fairly tall and hefty fellow, better suited to the T7 than, say, my WR and let's say it, you can put your feet flat on the ground. I can't so for me it's all standing up on the pegs or I and my steed are quickly parted. Yes, skill solves everything but that takes having ridden motorcycles since you were 8, not so for this fellow obviously. What do you think? How tall are you and what do you weigh? Shouldn't the reviewer include this information when reviewing a motorcycle? Isn't it a critical part of the equation?

That is a good comment on the frame under the motor. I have no idea why any manufacurer would produce a bike for off road use without real structure under the engine. It would not add much weight and it would be low as well. Long Haul Paul has over 100,000 miles of highway use on his T7 and it is still running strong so they are very well built!

Own a black 2022 Tenere I wouldn't trade it for any other middleweight ADV. For me the very tall seat height is a feature not a flaw on the hwy you are taller than most cars making you extremely visible in traffic. Anyways thanks for sharing your six months review. Cheers

Great Video. The Yamaha XT series (which the Tenere is part of lol) has always been bullet proof long lasting machines! I really wish the would make a XT500 Tenere. By the way I love my "Baby Tenere" the XT250 lol!!!
I sold my 790 R and bought a T7. I have not regretted that decision for one second. I personally think the T7 is way more fun to ride! I’m also not worried about when they next “glitch” will pop up anymore. The 790 R always had some new “issue”.

No one sane would consider it for that insane price. It's budget bike with 20+years old tech but 2023 modern price. It's good bike, but not in 2023 and for that Money. Just look at what competition offers for similar money. Africa twin eats it alive in every regard

I started riding motorcycles 3 years ago and I bought the Tenere 700. I have done 2 long trips and weekend rides. My first trip I left from Quebec to Vancouver for a distance of 10300km in 12 days and the second I left Quebec to Alaska via Pruedhoe Bay (Dalton Highway) and Tuktoyaktuk (Dempster highway) for a total of 18941km in 22 days. This bike is perfect. Never had a problem. This bike is so simple that I do all my maintenance myself. Brakes, valve check, bearing swingarm, wheels, sprocket chain etc. It has plenty of tutorial to learn. It is now at 54000km. Next trip Quebec to Colorade to climb as many passes as possible. Duration of the trip 21 days. I look forward to next summer. Thanks for your video. I love my T7

I agree with everything you said in this very thoughtful video, except possibly the seat comment. However, I stand up a lot when riding this bike and have kept most highway rides shorter than 2-3 hours. Like you said, I was one that was looking forward to buying one ever since I test rode one in 2019, and I got frustrated trying to buy one in 2022. I'd put down a deposit at a local dealer for Feb/March and nothing came in by May when riding season was well underway. So, I went to the Aprilla dealer nearby and they had 3 Tuaregs so I bought one of those. The Tenere showed up the next day, so I ended up with one of each. I put ~2000 miles on each, mostly BDR and TAT type of riding in Virginia, WV, and PA. In the end, I only wanted to keep one and went with the Tuareg knowing that the Tenere would be easiest to sell-I sold it for just about the out the door price. Then, knowing the risk of a poor dealer network and a not yet established reliability record for the Aprilia, I rode the Tuareg from VA to NM and AZ, and then wanted to head up to WY to do that newly announced WY BDR. The Tuareg developed starting problems in Colorado just before getting into Wyoming and I had to rent a U Haul to bring it back home. I brought it to my dealer where it has been for almost two months now. They say they've got it started ok, but that it still isn't running right. Ironically, I went back to riding my DRZ400 for the end of the 2022 season and when picking up some maintanence items discovered that my yamaha/suzuki dealer got one more unexpected 2022 Tenere in their inventory in October --- So, I just bought another Tenere 700, maybe the last 2022 in the Virginia area? The main difference to me between the Tenere and Taureg, off road is that magical swing arm configuration of the Tenere that makes it feel like a real dirtbike--- it is so fun off road and does feel like a DRZ400, a big DRZ for sure. The Tuareg never put that smile on my face the way the Tenere does --- I very much like the Tuareg's cruise control for the long stretch of interstate I did on my way out to the Rockies.... too bad it didn't get me to the WY BDR or home : ( I hope somebody finds this useful as it's been a bit of a bit of a slog trying to get the "perfect" midsize do-it-all adventure bike. I should say, I grew up in the South West riding dessert bikes and love those long cross country off road rides going as fast as I can without risking damaging falls (mechanical or physical... ; ) Most days I am successful, but definitely not always. Both bikes need a good bash plate and crash bars in my view. Everything else is personal preference.
I agree. I also tried to buy a T7 but settled for a Tuareg 660, and the Tuareg is a great bike, but parts and the dealer network is a real issue. My Aprilia dealership didn't respond to me when the bike wouldn't shift down from 6th gear exiting a freeway. Still, loved the bike for its cruise control, tubeless tires, and comfort. I will take issue with the Dork on the price for the T7. Because they are so hard to find, they sell over the price for a new Tuareg, so the value consideration really isn't there unless you get lucky. I sold the Tuareg and have replaced it with a used Honda 450L, which I am heavily modding. I can trust the Honda to work when riding off-road and can easily pick it up when I fall over. Something I can't do alone with most middle weight adventure bikes. Be nice if they could make a twin cylinder bike under 400 lbs. (like the new Fantic Caballero 700, with the Yamaha CP2 engine).
Dang. Too bad you got stranded. I like the Tuareg and have cross shopped it but your story and few others has me believing that it would be best to stick with something smaller and reliable like a 300L until the Tenere is more readily available and priced correctly. I know, not the same class.

Thank you for that comparison w the Tuareg. Many of us I’m sure have been wondering about these two. I too was questioning the reliability & access to dealers & parts for Aprilia. And for me down the road seems like a big decider. All the other cons to the T7 seem surmountable.

If you can find it, though it is becoming a little more common. Still a little too tall and heavy for me. I would also like to say that the true unicorn motorcycle is the motorcycle that makes you want to ride every road and make new roads.
I was on the list at my dealership for 14 months, finally got it last month, well worth the wait ! This is a damn good motorcycle.
I started riding 3 years ago on a 2006 KLR and got my hands on a 2022 t7 this summer. What an amazing ride on and off-road. You nailed the pros and cons for sure. It's definitely top heavy but not really anything I think about while riding. So far the only time I've dropped mine was unloading it from my truck when I brought it home lmao. I was nervous, excited, and just rushed backing it down the ramp and it went over in the grass. First scuff on the exhaust without putting a single kilometer on it lmao
I had my dealer on watch when they released them. I got to test ride the first one they ever got. A boy do i regret not buying it. I was just getting back into riding after a 7 year spell.

I've owned mine for one year now and 6,000 miles. Terrific bike and I'm a dirt rider not a street guy, however this bike has opened my world to longer range trips and freeway travel. I own 5 bikes and all of them have the Seat Concepts seats on them except the T7. I bought the Yamaha Rally seat and I love it. For me, its comfortable and I've had no complaints with it...zero. Amazing they could build a decent seat. You have a problem with your tires because my brother and I both have Motoz Rallz front and rear and around 35-40 mph they make a bunch of noise but above 55 we can't hear them at all and I don't wear earplugs. Maybe the wind noise drowns it out but I don't believe the noise could overcome the riders ears lol.. You never touched on the real black cloud on this bike... the rear brake. When you come off a dirt bike and saddle up the T7 you would swear the rear brake is disconnected lol.. I have ordered the Camel ADV rear brake lever so im excited to see if it works as well as they say. I did heavier springs and Racetech valving and I think it improved the bike a ton but we ride fairly aggressively. You're video was pretty spot-on and I have the same thoughts on people telling me their bikes have more performance at 50% more cost. They had better be offering more for that price. Long live the T7!
I have a 2021 T7, and commute with it daily. Amazing bike, spot on review. I wouldnt trade mine for anything, and the CAMEL ADV tank was a stellar upgrade. Perfectly designed for the coming apocalypse in Cali. Keep up the great work!
I've owned my T7 for almost exactly a year now, and I think you're spot on with this review.
The engine is more than strong enough but won't pull your arms out like the KTM, Desert X, etc.
The engine noise is AWESOME, and I love knowing the bike will reliably get me anywhere I need to go which I don't feel about the KTM.
I think it rides just fine on road contrary to what others say. Off road is very good, but the weight and top-heaviness make it more prone to tipping.
Most of the mods I've done are just for protection: Camel high-exhaust, Heed Bunker crash bars are very strong, Camel skid plate, and Bark Busters.
Camel kickstand spring is about an $8 fix to an annoyingly floppy kickstand. Adjustable windshield is very useful, and a rear luggage rack gives you options for a tail bag or top case.
Love the bike, and I plan to keep it for years to come!
This is my first ever adventure bike and I absolutely love it! I’ve only ridden smaller dual sports before this bike but it is so easy to learn on and more maneuverable than you think. Can definitely agree it’s a confidence booster kind of motorcycle 😃
I own a gs1200, a T7and a CRF300. and love them all. the gs is a great tourer, the T7 that one bike that does it all and the crf300 make me go to places i wouldnt try with the t7 because of weight. But i agree the t7 ist great. I need the crf300 to learn harder offroad because i cant pick up the t7 10 times in one day, thats how bad a rider i am.
I have had my T7 for 18 months. Very accurate review. I am also a larger rider. Added springs front and rear, lowered 20 mm. Seat Concepts with an Air Hawk is about perfect. I did just install the Acerbis 22 L tank. Think I am done with farkles except for the brake pedal from Camel Adventure.
DR650 is considered "heavy" but is about 80 pounds lighter than the Tenere which is considered "light. Both have some overlap as far as usage.
Um, more like 90lbs lighter; that's with a bit less fuel, but the DR doesn't need heavy crash bars. And it's not top-heavy, and easily lowered. And more than half the HP. Ever so slightly more. ; )

DR is heavy compared to an mx bike. This is light compared to a GS 1250. I need to try one of these middle weight adv bikes.

Had the pleasure of renting a Tenere 700 in South Africa and Botswana. Perfect bike for riding in the sands and bush of Africa. Never really noticed the top heaviness and the power delivery and stability were spot on for the sandy conditions. Spongy rear brake and seat my only niggles. Excellent review that highlighted the appeal of this bike.👍
My only complaints were the squishy suspension when loaded down. Rented one and rode through Arizona. Metal panniers loaded with food water and clothes. Plus a big duffel bag strapped to the back. Everytime I sat on the bike it saged heavily. It's seat height being so tall as well, I came close to tipping over a few times mounting and dismounting on unlevel terrain lol.

About the seat. I was going to change it, but then got an sw-motech air pillow thingie for it, and that made it surprisingly comfy. I did Norway south to north, with some full days back to back, and had no problems. A new seat maybe on the horizon but that air pillow is a surprisingly good quick fix for those longer rides.

Great review!! The Tenere 700 is the one bike that I have decided to upgrade more than any other bike I've owned because it is the true "do all' bike. In the process of upgrading to the Rally Raid suspension and also going to add an MC Cruise and then this bike will be officially ready for the long haul adventure trips IMO. After all is said and done I'll have around 14k in the bike and have a machine that has bulletproof reliability, a few creature comforts, and fantastic suspension. Keep up the great content!!
I’ve been building mine ever since finally, unintentionally, coming upon a new one I had been on a list for. Upgrades so far are:
Outback motortek crash bars(red), AXP skid plate, barkbusters, 8.9 rear spring, Kriega 18+18+18 OS bags, 2-6 liter kriega bags(mounting to crash bars), HP corse full exhaust-SP high mount (black titanium),
“The fix” camel adv brake lever, camel adv anti wobble, alt rider(?) adjustable windscreen adapter, motoz rallZ tires.
Will probably upgrade the suspension eventually as soon as my skill level out paces the suspension.
It’s an awesome bike and with how “cheap” it is compared to other adv bikes, it leaves quite a budget for all the necessary fixes, upgrades, and accoutrements before you even get close to a similar priced bike such as the 790/890 Ktm.
Great review. I think that’s why the KLR does so well in sales. This is a more capable bike for sure. In my opinion the less tech the better especially off road. Less to go wrong when things go wrong. I’m not the best off road, I usually crash my dirt bike when I take it out but I can’t kill it, it just keeps going.
This bike is the Goldilocks between my old Tenere 1200 and the built DR 650 I had. Got out today for a few hours riding some techy two track with a full fuel load on the new 6 gallon Acerbis tank. A little bit noticeable, but not too much, and the 300 mile range more than makes up for a little more weight when fully filled.

Great video. I’ve really been looking forward to you doing this video on the T7. I haven’t. Ridden one, but looking at specs the things that jump out are what you mention, no front only ABS and no cruise control. Other than that, this thing is damn near perfect specs wise.
The statement “feels like a dual sport” is a big one. I had a KTM 890R and never felt that way, although it was great feeling off road compared to most ADVs.
I've owned a T7 and I have to say that for me, it was nothing like a dual sport...
Weight is massive compared to them, and yes, very top heavy, much worse than the 890.
Hey there! After extensive research and sleeping on it and much of that is thanks to your honest opinions i picked up my 1st adv bike...and chose the t7. This is a new life being introduced to me as ive grown up around harleys and other cruisers. Branched into sport bikes as well. But there was a "go anywhere at anytime and not have to turn around " feeling i was looking for! Thanks for the efforts you put into reviews and keeping it casual. It really helps weigh the options!

I thought the same thing about the stock seat when I first got my Tenere. I stuck it out and after a few thousand miles the stock seat broke in nicely and now that it's broke in it's an all day seat with no discomfort.

I rode the TAT on my 2021 T7 and my butt was hurting by day three but then went away. I have 24,000 miles on her now still on the stock seat.
I wanted a T7 back in 2020, but they were, and still are, impossible to find. I ended up tricking out a 701 and love it, but it was stupidly expensive. Good therapy during lockdowns, though.

I’m still torn on the t7, Africa twin. The twin would be basically a road bike for me but I would hit fire trails and explore for new camp sites. I plan on keeping my drz for the trails. The t7 probably sucks with a passenger but it’s probably so much fun on the trails and canyon riding.
I was on a 2 year waiting list for one. 1.5 months in, I get a call from the dealership. All 10 people in front of me backed out! So now I have one finally…but now there’s a foot of snow on the ground and it’s 10 degrees F out. 😆
That being said, I was able to take it out for a couple trips and wow, it’s incredible. If you can handle the wait to find one, do so. It’s incredibly easy to handle on some moderately difficult terrain and is so much fun!
Rented one when I was in Vegas for a buisness trip. Did about 900 miles through Arizona durinf my 2 days off. Through highway, canyons, desert and forrest roads. I fell in love with it. I was ready to buy it outright then and there if they let me lol.
The problem with most reviews of this bike is that most of the reviews are out west. I live in the Midwest. I don't need a huge capacity gas tank. The off road riding area is 30 minutes from my house. I need a bike that I can ride around town and ride light offroad. I don't plan on any extensive road time. You would think from other reviews and comments the 700 is unridable without suspension work. I've been considering a 700 for some time and after watching this review I've got to have one! The suspension is fully adjustable. I'm 190 and adjusted it slightly stiffer than stock. It seems good to go to me, but to each their own. Tackle rocky trails in CO with no problems outside of rider skill level.

I own a Tenere 700. It fell in my lap and I brought it on Tuesday of this week. Love it. Super duper capable. I was worried it wouldn't be as capable as it ended up being.

I just found my own T7 and got it brand new with 2 miles. One of only 6 in the state being sold this month. I knew enough about em, and I just needed to grab it. Absolutely a great machine.
Once the scalpers quit and supply catches up I will be getting one. Until then my CRF300L Rally will bring a smile to my face each morning. I am on track to ride 10K miles a year just commuting and running around town. Would love the extra power for the road and don't want a full fat ADV bike since I occasionally hit single track.
I must say you where spot on with the T7. Thank you for the honesty. I was torn between this and the transalp. A t7 fell in my lap new 23 model and I love it. I love everything it is and isn't just like you put it!

I have a 2021 with 24,000 miles and absolutely no issues.
Full exhaust, De-cat reflash and 0-75 Mph it runs neck and neck with an 890R in Rally Mode. After 77 mph the 890 pulled away.
I have lofted the front at 30 mph and rode it out to 78 mph.
117 mpg on gravel roads.
Best of all is the power delivery. With that low end grunt you don’t have to shift it as often as the 890. I rode the entire TAT and hell’s revenge and Slickrock in Moab.

I’m still interested in the 901 Expedition as a second bike though.
Yes, I’ve followed you since the DRZ400 days and I too invested in the T7, love the bike and memories, everyday is a thrill ride…you are so right about the seat!…mine still needs upgrading- I opted for the tall V-stream wind screen and comfortably roll at 90 mph on the freeway….Bless you Brother and stay safe
Owned mine for almost 2 years. 14k miles, 2 bdrs, ridden more than 50% in the dirt. It is the brand champion. Reliable, and perfect in every way. Just my opinion.
I keep one in Europe and every summer I ride through Europe and Africa. In the USA I have a GS Adv. Best bikes for each terrain. I have driven 40k km overseas in two summers. The Tenere is a miracle. It cannot be stalled. It has torque everywhere. Almost like an electric motor. The throttle is your friend off road. Your best friend. There is nothing you can’t power through. I have stalled half a dozen times on my GS Adv (which has a motor nearly twice as large). In 40k km I have had zero issues.
Got the call today from dealer, unexpectedly, and threw my deposit at them as fast as I could. Didn't think that was going to ever happen so kept looking at a lot of other options. Just couldn't pull the trigger on anything. I guess patience paid off. This video is very well done and validates all the reasons why I want this bike. Appreciate watching it multiple times.
I’m glad to hear you are happy with the stock suspension on this bike. Being a bigger guy myself that’s one thing I was pretty concerned about but hearing your positive thoughts is promising. My heart has been set on a T7 for awhile now but the Tuareg kept pulling me away. After watching this I think I’m back to being fully set on the T7
They're actually NOT super hard to find. They WERE. There are multiples in my area and many for sale, new and used, throughout the country.
My advice: buy used w/ low mileage...can be had for under $10K or for between $10K and $12K with very nice accessories.
How many miles did you put on this Tenere? I tried the Seat concepts seat, Meh. Loved them on my other bikes, not this one. I went with the Sargent seat, wider and way more comfortable. Stock tires are great for street and gravel traction, but wear out way too fast. Lots of great points! My black Tenere is a keeper. Nice & informative video. Ronny
Love my T7. For everyone who has one and dislikes the look of the dash. Check out the color clusterz lcd flip kit. Just did it on mine and it looks 10x better. They also have rpm and color change kits.
I’ve had a T7 for 17 months- Love the bike . My BMW GSA is not sitting 1/2 the time. If I’m doing anything off-road. The Tenere is what I choose. I may go to a 300 Enduro just to sharpen my dirt skills. But they are so uncomfortable.
I have the same combo. Love both bikes; for very different reasons.
I bought mine new from May 2023, T7 rally edition in Europe, It's easy to find one new or used, a lot of old dudes buying this and sell because it's too radical for them. Only downside is you may not have the luxury of color picking, I had to buy the rally edition or world raid, no standard edition within at least 6 months and not even sure he was. So I choose to buy the first one, white red rally edition with a useless and expensive exhaust, but I drilled the carbon exhaust, took the baffles out and no regret, smile on my face when it starts.
The top heaviness is the only problem I have with the T7. I feel like it’s at its tipping point just as the side stand touches the ground. A majority of the riding I do is in the dirt and it’s very easy to tip over in my experience on technical terrain. If you lose momentum or get knocked off your line on technical terrain and try to dab but by the time your foot may be able to touch the ground it’s already too late.
That’s the reason why I sold it and bought a 890R

@@TheJaxsonjack I had a 1190 before with 80K km without any major problem. I have friends with the 790/890 platform riding hard without any problem. I just have 10K km on mine but no problem
For me, the performance needs exceed the boring reliability.

Great review! I got my T7 using pure luck back in June and promptly put 4,000 miles on it just commuting to work! Life got in the way so I didn't get to do much adventure riding on it yet but bombing some dirt roads and looking for trouble in some fields brought me back to my dirt biking days. it is a great bike over all and they balanced street and off road performance like no one else before. thanks for another entertaining video!
The T7 is very similar in some ways to my 2009 f800gs, it is so simple and reliable, and so easy on the maintenance

I 'm glad to hear this because I always get to the same point, as an ex F 800 gs 2010 owner, I can say that there's nothing new in the tenere that the BMW didn't have, that bike started this whole midleweight adeventure bike madness because it was so good and still is but nobody seems to remember it.

Also, the other benefit over the T7: I was able to get one.

I’ve had mine for a year now. I flashed the ECU and removed the entire ABS system including the pump. New stainless brake lines. First gear is a little tall in the tight technical stuff so I’m going to add two teeth to the rear. The muffler hanger is a joke and will bend the first time you drop the bike. I put on a full stainless exhaust including the high route muffler at cat delete. It really didn’t make it much louder and is a lot lighter and less prone to bending. Stock tires do OK on Rocky trails but move around quite a bit on fire roads and looser or muddier conditions. I removed the turn signals and put on a tail tidy to clean up the rear end. I’m getting ready to add a Garmin Sumo X2. It’s a fun and very capable bike but never forget that it’s not a dirtbike. When it starts to go over it’s hard to keep it up. Gas mileage is incredibly good..

Just got my t7 a few days ago. This is my first bike. It was the only bike over 300cc that the dealership had in stock that was an adv bike. I dont know much about bikes but damn its really fun to ride. Lots of torque also.
I sold my t7. Nice bike but to heavy and top heavy at that as you mentioned (for me). I'm holding out for the KTM 490 Adventure. Looking for that modern drz. Some day:)
The bike is being used by dealers I had one set aside and when they told me 13.499 2022 I said nope 10.499 is what they should sell for at the Dealership/ I bought a 2018 with 600miles KTM 690 enduro R for under 10.000 So im a little soured on that bike. Around Bend Oregon out on 2 wheels
I was told 10400 for mine too. So I went in to buy it and it came to 11,200 after “taxes and assembly” even though I live in a state with no sales tax. Oh well, it’s still worth it.
Great review; I agree with everything said except the stock seat works much better for me than the one piece Seat Concepts which made my butt numb within 30 miles every time I rode on it. I've owned my T7 for 18 months and over 10k miles, and it's undoubtably the best bike I've ever owned. Just traded my R1200GS for an RT because of the T7, as their missions were too similar and the GS was just sitting in the corner more and more as I couldn't stay off the T7.
I test rode it a while back on a 150 mile dirt loop. It’s a Goldilocks bike.
Not expensive but not cheap.
Not fun but not boring.
Not heavy but not light.
Good on road as it is off, you’re not sacrificing in either direction.
Impossible to stall in 2nd down low.
Great standing position
Suspension is fine unless you wanna race it.

More aftermarket peeps need to make front and back fairings. Not just front.

Ive wanted one of these since I found out about them and just got one. Its everything I wanted it to be and more. What a masterpeice of machinery.
I have had an Africa Twin AS, currently own a GSA1200R, a 2022 CRF450R. Ive ridden the Pan America and a KTM 690R. I rented a Tenere 700 from MotoVermont and rode it for 3 days on one of their private tours. I enjoyed it. I felt it had a smooth powerband, smooth transmission, solid suspension. I did not like the lack of electronics package which I am spoiled and expect in 2022. It felt top heavy and was a hair tall for me, being on the shorter side of most. I think its a great bike for the MSRP, if you could only get one for somewhere near MSRP. I dont really like it as much for 13k. Its not that light for a 700 and it doesnt feel that light. It had some defects with the muffler mounts breaking the frame. I think its a great bike for $10,500 if you could get it. I love that Blue color. I love how reliable and simple it is. Bottom line, I would reach up a little and get a 890 or pickup a used 790 if I was shopping this class. Tall, top heavy with a great powerband and good stock suspension.
Gonna get my 23 in april. Can't wait this will be my first ''real bike''. Ive been riding ninja 400 then Tw200 for 8 years now.

Re: availability of the T7, I'm seeing more and more of these come up on the used market, many of which are very low miles. Several reasonably priced and a couple even from dealers. You may have to be willing to travel, but you can get your hands on one of you really want it.

This video, once again, sealed the deal on what I keep coming back to... this IS the unicorn. Thanks for giving us your viewpoint on the top heaviness. That was biggest factor, for me, on looking elsewhere. I had a 2019 Africa Twin AS with a ridiculous seat height and a feeble 31-inch inseam, even with an aftermarket Sargent seat and some disco KISS ADV boots. It makes for a few hysterical stories after a few cold ones. Relieved that, yeah, it's a thing but not a deal breaker since our inseams are similar. Well done video and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
The cons that I've heard the most is the weak stock rear spring and the low exhaust. Surprised you didn't mention them.
Yeah almost every other reviewer says the suspension all around is soggy. Some of those reviewers are considerably smaller as well
A friend's step son actually bought this bike on the 29th November 2023 . Blue, looks great and it's a Yamaha. My friend and I are mainly Harley Davidson riders I also have a Honda CTX 700. I personally love Honda and Yamaha out of the big 4. So even my brother and his wife are into these sorts of bikes . She rides a 1200 Triumph tiger , him a Honda 1300 CTX but they also just bought two Royal Enfield Himalayans. They love the off road thing like you and have plenty of options off road in NY State. Me personally even if I wanted to buy a bike like this every one I've ever tried to throw my leg over it's not happening. Way too tall and I am like 5'7ish . So I'm sure he has bought a bullet proof bike just like my little Honda CTX because as we know you really can't beat the Japanese for reliability. 👍
I keep coming back to this video and it probably still the king. I REALLY like the Tuareg too, but I am struggling with trusting Aprilia’s reliability. I am planning to try to go sit on one this afternoon (rental fleet) to see how it fits my 5’6” body lol. Thanks for your candor. 👍🏾
Out the door that bike is at least 12 k. I've had this bike for about 2 years now and one thing I like about it is that there is a ton of aftermarket parts available for this bike.

all true, I currently own a 2021 and 2023 Tenere 700. the 2021 has 25,000 miles on it and its solid. I don't like the weak rear brake lever, and seems fixed wiht cameladv. I had a crf450l and sold it within a few months because its not what I like. I had a wr450f at the time, but now I rock the ktm 500 for those niche. I never thought I'd say it, but I LOVE the ktm 500. But my fav bike of all bikes...I've ever owned, is a 2019 husky te300i. I have 7 bikes and I take the 2 stroke out the most. Sometimes I have to hold my nose and ride adventure bikes...and then I take the t7...the least suckie adventure bike known to man. I owned an africa twin for a couple of years, owned the t7 for about a year at the same time and ALWAYS took the t7 for "jobs" and left the africa twin home. Its like the africa twin is a 690...not good at anything, the t7 is the ideal weapon for BDRs IMO. I've put about 4000 miles on a tenere 1200 and really like it and I'm trying to figure out how to get my t7 to act like a t1200 in gusts of high winds...19/17 wheel set? likely a function of height and weight (sounds like a girl friend joke). The t7 seat isn't so bad IMO, I have not upgraded it...but use the airhawk for long distance rides.

Great video, been waiting for this one. I got my T7 in July and it has been awesome. You summed up pretty much all of how I feel about the T7. I also got extremely lucky to get my reservation and it still took 6 months for delivery. If you can find one, get it.
I picked up my '21 (in Blue) in October last year after being on your favorite dealership's waitlist for 6 months. I made the mistake of riding it during the Yamaha ride day they had in April of 2021, and I fell for it instantly. I've never felt such confidence simply hitting gravel strewn across pavement.
I've definitely not put the most miles on my bike, but right after I hit 1000 miles this year I took it out to Tillamook. This probably wasn't three best idea since my only other off road experiences were on quads in the sand, but holy crap can this bike carry a doofus around the forest and compensate for a complete lack of skills! Dropped this tall and top heavy bike about 3 times too many, but I had a blast and it put up with the light damage with no fuss. I plan on commuting a lot more worn it, likely even through our cold and wet winter here in the PNW!
For just a bit more money I feel the Aprilia Toureg more than delivers over the T700. It has more power, better suspension, cruise control, off road ABS, lower center of gravity, better range, tubeless tires and you can actually buy one. Many of the T700's are still being sold for over MSRP, which makes the cost differential to the Aprilia even smaller. Obvious potential drawbacks to the Aprilia are the overall lack of dealer network and potential reliability issues. Only time will tell on both of those. When the time comes for me to move on from my Adv'd KTM 690 Enduro, I'll most likely pick the Aprilia...

The stock seat is bad? An EXC500F and CFR450L are bad. This seat may not have touring bike comfort, but I was so happy with it after having owned those other two bikes... by comparison the Tenere seat is a couch. Anyhow, great content. I got a '24 and agree these things are awesome. I recently had traded off my 890 ADV-R, and no regrets. I like the T7 better.
As someone who has driven primarily on road across a good portion of the country on the T7 I can honestly say. . . I recommend being 5'9" to fully take advantage of this bike. It does handle just fine on road though.
The reiteration they’re finally bringing to the US definitely helps it compete better amongst the current mid weight class. Can’t wait to see what availability looks like.

Right said, well described. Nice video. I absolutely love my T7. After one year and 12.000 km got no complaints at all. Its a beast - be aware - it may be talking to you "hey try again with more gas", "come on - i show you we can make it better". Just kidding - but you are absolutely right saying that the bike makes you a better rider. No other bike that i had, made go out for training my basic skills. 😉 The T7 will not let you down so detours to explore are part of the game.

Availability seems to be no problem in germany, but I suffer with you guys. Its horrendous - riders buy italian insted of proven qual. However I would never buy an italian or any other bike just because it looks better on the fact sheet. Some short range tests out there sound pretty encouraging though. We will see, if the Tuareg or the Desert X will prove that italian bikes can reach a certain level of liabilty for endurance. Why did the great Cagiva Elephant disapear? It has proven to be a great bike for the dakar rally. It was beautifully designed with love to detail, it was a dream bike, but it could not compete with the japanese quality, the price was too high so the dakar winners yamaha and honda kept selling enduros and adv bikes.
IMHO seat comfort is funny topic. Every butt is different. BTW i like the seat.

Three years ago I, then totally unfamiliar with dual sport bikes and riding...i.e. getting into this as a newby guided by guesswork...went through the painful process of choosing between a used DRZ400 and a used WR250R (I've never had much money, something that's not likely to change so I have to choose wisely if I want to play.) What I discovered was that what made the difference between the bikes depended mainly on the size and weight of the rider, skill level being equal between the riders demonstrating the bikes. The bigger heavier rider found the DRZ fit him best. The lighter rider preferred the WR. But doesn't this make sense? I am 5' 7" and weigh 150 pounds. A T7? I don't think so. You look to me to be a fairly tall and hefty fellow, better suited to the T7 than, say, my WR and let's say it, you can put your feet flat on the ground. I can't so for me it's all standing up on the pegs or I and my steed are quickly parted. Yes, skill solves everything but that takes having ridden motorcycles since you were 8, not so for this fellow obviously. What do you think? How tall are you and what do you weigh? Shouldn't the reviewer include this information when reviewing a motorcycle? Isn't it a critical part of the equation?

That is a good comment on the frame under the motor. I have no idea why any manufacurer would produce a bike for off road use without real structure under the engine. It would not add much weight and it would be low as well. Long Haul Paul has over 100,000 miles of highway use on his T7 and it is still running strong so they are very well built!

I wouldn't trade it for any other middleweight ADV. For me the very tall seat height is a feature not a flaw on the hwy you are taller than most cars making you extremely visible in traffic. Anyways thanks for sharing your six months review.

I like this review, I think its helped convice me to get a T7. I don't think the height and weight "issues" will be a problem since I'm coming from a Vstrom 650
I started on a Yamaha XT-250 then jumped and got a V-Strom 1000 a few years ago. And now I want a T-700 to fill the gap

I sold my 790 R and bought a T7. I have not regretted that decision for one second. I personally think the T7 is way more fun to ride! I’m also not worried about when they next “glitch” will pop up anymore. The 790 R always had some new “issue”.

Top heavy is a feeling I don't like for technical off road. Almost would like to try a Honda XR650 and this side by side.

No one sane would consider it for that insane price. It's budget bike with 20+years old tech but 2023 modern price.
It's good bike, but not in 2023 and for that Money. Just look at what competition offers for similar money.
