    Mouth Breathing in Children Buteyko Educator Patrick McKeown
    The physiologic breathing mode in the human being is nasal, regardless of age. Any factor leading to the upper airway (UA) obstruction causes nasal breathing to be replaced by mouth breathing, among which mechanical events, allergic and non allergic inflammatory diseases.
    However, even after these mechanical factors are removed, MB continues in most cases due to patient’s mouth breathing habit.
    The mouth breathing syndrome is characterized by a set of signs and symptoms, which may be present in subjects who replace an adequate and efficient nasal breathing mode by the mouth for a period equal or superior of six months.

    Thanks Patrick. My children, well, at least 8 of them, watched with eyes glued to this today. Even the teenagers paid attention. Thank you

    I am an adult this one completely cleared my nose thanks a lot.
    Every morning I had a runny nose even if I felt even a little bit of cold. I realized that I have been breathing wrong my whole life. Great Job.

    Great series! Thank you for sharing these freely with the world!
    One comment about this video is you don’t specifically talk about breathing in again through your nose after you complete your steps. I think it may help to stress that in this video, just in case people haven’t watched them all and heard that message previously.

    I have a 1.5. yr old who obviously won't participate in these exercises. I think he has obstructive sleep apnea, would you recommend a h ok holistic dentist as a first step? I'm afraid GP will just end up down the surgery route.

    Is this like control pause where you go until you feel first urge to breath or is child trying to hold breath as long as possible?

    • @ButeykoClinicInternational
      @ButeykoClinicInternational  2 роки тому +1

      Hi JohnPaul. It depends on the childs chemosensitivity to CO2. Usually a medium to strong air hunger. It can range from 10 steps - 50 steps until the child can feel the urge to breathe. Best, Darren

    Thank you from Japan. I’m very interested for me and my clients. I had an accident car when I was 7 in NY, went to emergency had my nose skin stitched got home and fell from the the stairs, again to emergency. When adult had a nose surgery because I couldn’t breath well since the accident. The doctor made his young daughter ( never knew if she was already a doctor) do the surgery ( I suppose to open my nostrils? I felt and saw that they were hammering my nose? But with the anesthesia I couldn’t talk or do anything, all in Peru when I was like 34). After the surgery nothing changed. My breathing got a little better with yoga but I think I have the vicious circle of not breathing well and daily anxiety sensation but feel it worst on my heart ( I’m 61), specially when I had too much salt on my food, I’m vegan though. The surgery left my nose horrible: flat on the upper angle of the nose, and feel like the skin of my nose is falling down? Beside the weight of the glasses? I’m so happy to get to know you through James Nestor whom I bought his book and hope asap buy yours. Arigatou gozaimasu

      @@ButeykoClinicInternational thank you for your rapid reply.
      My crazy dad throw me into the sea while I was trying to get out I swallowed lot of salty water and then in other episode my big bully bro push me into the deep pool area and thanks goodness a man pull me out of the pool. These two experiences left me in whole life with hunger of air.
      Then at age 12 got intoxicated by gas, fainted and ended in emergency. I don’t know if it has relation but around that age I had sunstroke with high fevers and hallucinations. I was practically forced to run 400 m in a schools competition, when running at one point I felt my arms and legs contracting, no more respond and fainted. Writing all these I doubt I have had mentioned all my provable breathing problems in my life.
      I bought James Nestor book through I got to know Dr. P M. And I already ordered his book and watching everyday his You Tube videos. I agree completely with his idea that all psychotherapist should learn all about breathing to help the clients. Arigatou gozaimasu.

      Hello Sunanda, we recommend to any parent presenting a child with enlarged adenoids to look at maxillary expansion and forward development of the airways first. Try this for three months, along with continued nasal breathing and practising the Steps Exercise in this book for children.

    Can you use this exercise for lowering your blood pressure?

    • @ButeykoClinicInternational
      @ButeykoClinicInternational  3 роки тому +1

      Hi. Breathing through the nose and practising Buteyko reduced volume breathing will help with low blood pressure as it can help improve heart rate variability (improve functioning of autonomic nervous system).

      @@ButeykoClinicInternational Does it help people with high blood pressure too?

    • @ButeykoClinicInternational
      @ButeykoClinicInternational  3 роки тому +2

      @@The7starguy Buteyko breathing method helps a lot for persons who suffer from high blood pressure. Strong breath holds are only suitable if the heart rate normalizes when measured five to ten minutes after completion of the steps or strong breath hold. In other case, this exercise is not recommended to practice. Wearing the tape is important for persons with high blood pressure, sleep and mental health. Taping mouth at night each day helps to improve nasal breathing. Reduced breathing with relaxation along with exercise called " Many small breath holds". We would recommend to you to read our general page for persons who suffer from high blood pressure: www.buteykoclinic.com/high-blood-pressure/

    • @ButeykoClinicInternational

      Hi Patrick. Steps exercise - It’s important for the child to breathe through the nose during physical exercise (do jogging, walking with your mouth closed, breathing in and out through the nose with your mouth closed).

      Hi @rakshamahat5154
      Yes these exercises can help those with adenoid and tonsil issues.
      You are also correct that the procedures are not 100% effective.
      In fact, this Danish study of over 1.2 million people shows that the risk of diseases of the upper respiratory tract increases by 2 or 3 times if you have your tonsils or adenoids removed in childhood.
      www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6145787/
      Also, according to this study, these procedures are only fully effective in 27% of cases: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20448096/
      We are not against adenoidectomies or tonsillectomies as they are essential for some people but we always say that you should try the non-invasive method before considering the tough reality of surgery.
