Love your videos, I have the GQF cabinet, so my question is when I lockdown at day 18 and I have eggs up top, will those 3 days of humidity at 75 damage the eggs on top. I’m not having luck hatching don’t know what I’m doing wrong, chicks coming out with bent feet. Wish I can contact you so I can ask more questions maybe you can help me out. Thank you 🙏
Not something that changes it on its own. For the cabinets it is the water tray and the 2 wick pads you can add. Usually no wick pads for incubating and 1-2 for hatching. I recommend one for incubating ducks as they like high humidity. You can then get the water reserve system/ bucket #3030. This way the tray has a float valve and always remains full! All you need to do is make sure the bucket is topped off once a month or so. The humidity once adjusted, usually is good for the season. Our climate it is dry in winter and humid in spring summer and fall so we adjust accordingly. Subscribe and you can see more on this in coming videos. Hello , I'm hatching on a slightly larger scale we have a 2400 size hatcher , can we use this same technique on our hatcher ?we hatch Ross 308 , Incubators we have 2 .. one is 1920 and the other is 5280 , so we have different cycles in them , so what would you recommend for us on our machines ?
I have heard people had good results dry hatching. But just note that eggs can dry out too much. Low humidity during hatching especially can cause chicks to become “shrink wrapped” and unable to hatch. We monitor humidity and get 80-100% hatch rates this way. But to each their own. The chart would be used the same as I explained in the video. For your Hovabator you will just need to ensure that the wick is placed in water inside incubator so it can wick up water to get an accurate reading. Thanks for the comment. I added too much water starting out the incubation process but 3 days later it has started drying up and humidity has begun to come down. Should I worry about the first few days of having too high of a humidity or will they be fine since the humidity is coming down to normal? FYI the vent holes were and are open.
No you will be fine. It’s all about how much moisture evaporates from the egg during the incubation process. This can be tweaked by adjusting the humidity throughout and candling the egg and comparing the size of the air sac to what is recommended. You can find pictures online of what the size of air sac should be. It can also be done through weight, as they are meant to loose a certain percentage of weight over incubation. You don’t need to get this in depth though. If too wet for 3 days I would recommend having it too dry for 3 days or so to compensate. Then back to 50% or so. Remember the volume of water does not change the humidity only the surface area of water, and the amount of ventilation open or closed. Less surface area will lower humidity, but same surface area of water and less volume will not change it.

Hello! I have the GQF 1502 Sportsman - I've never used this incubator before...Do you have any advice or pointers on making my first time go smoothly? And do's or don'ts?
Buy one of these wet bulbs wicks and perfect your humidity during both incubation and hatching. This is all you really have to worry about doing manual. Incubator for temp is set it and forget it. Clean incubator often for higher hatch rates.
Also I do not recommend hatching while incubating in a 1502. This is because the humidity levels are different for hatching and incubating. But if you do favour the 75% hatching humidity temporarily while hatching in the bottom. A hatcher or couple hova-batos paired up with 1502 would be ideal
Depends on your climate, for us we have 1-2 plugs open and the humidity tray filled with water, but with no wick pads. The water volume or depth does not change the humidity at all. Only surface area changes the humidity. So you can have a full tray of water or half full tray and it will be the same. So you can always keep a full tray of water. That’s why the wick pads are added as they give more surface area, thus increasing the humidity inside the incubator. Hope this helps!
I have incubator but the humidity level is not increasing more then 32% as it should be 50% I put 3 cups with water but it's not increasing and I think it's winter may be that's the reason?
Sorry for late reply, remember only surface area of water increases humidity. Never volume. So you need to add more surface area of water. Hence why the long trays of water in the tabletop bators. Also dry winter weather. Try to have in a room that has a RH of 50% or so. Add a humidifier to room if needed. Hope this helps for next hatch at least
3020 - Hygrometer wicks for #3018 & #3019 can be found on gqfmfg.com Or if you are crafty you can make one out of a sock or other cotton material. It is best to use a little electric to hold it on the thermometer/hygrometer. They can also be found on EBay. Or for those in Canada Berry Hill in Toronto has these and most GFF products. I dry hatch mine in the GQF 1502 and have had great hatching rates dry hatching.

Why do the incubator machine cutting off when the humidity get above 65%
Yours is. Not sure shouldn’t. Maybe a cheap incubator that is not good?
