I've been watching reptile content for 6-8 years and this was the first time I'd heard about 5-3 and you're the only channel (of the 3-4 related ones I watch) that talks about the other two.
So, two collard lizards were what I saw in my Texas backyard back in early June. I was wondering. These were the drab sort. They were chillin' on the ground near a tree. I didn't hassle them.
I'm super curious about this species. I learned about them last year and have been researching like crazy, but hardly anyone in Canada has any info on them!
I'd love to have a Sara. I wanted to try a cheaper animal (Crestie) first to make sure I'm doing it right. We finally got our Crestie this summer and he's fun.
I also think a good honorable mention would be African Fat-tailed Geckos. I never see them as much but having around 30 geckos, they are by far the best pet gecko that isn't too terribly hard to keep. They're much slower and easier to handle than Leopard Geckos, very easy to keep as a colony for those who can properly co-hab them. And their diet is the same as various other "beginner" bug eating geckos. Not to mention they come in a decent little variety of morphs. I wish they were more common at reptile shows otherwise I can only seem to find them on MorphMarket.
I knew you were gonna have mountain horned dragons haha I've been keeping and breeding them for 2 years now and they're just so cool and chill. I was into them and breeding them before they were "cool"!
You should look into pictus geckos! I’m keeping and breeding them right now, they’re so hardy and don’t mind tropical or even semi-arid environments. Very adaptable and easy to keep.
I'm thinking about maybe getting a collared lizard. I love lizards but just can't handle a big one or a super expensive one. However, I do live in Texas and I know this is part of their region. YES...more collared lizard info would be great!
@@WickensWickedReptilesI feel like right after the wedding you probably would have had some back videos that you already made scheduled to go up automatically or you just take a honeymoon break to be like let me press the button to upload

My dream reptiles both collared lizards but most of all horned mountain dragons.my husband has on on his phone as his lock screen. We saw and fell in love with them at Chester zoo. I never thought they would be beginner friendly. I have 3 beardies at the moment so only want beginner friendly reptiles. Although have to wait till my daughter leaves home as she says she will leave if I get another reptile.
WE NEED!! a Painted agama care guide. I haven't been able to find one online beside's Clint's and it would be awesome if you made one. Espeically as they "may" be a "better" beardie
Madagascan plated lizards (Western Girdled lizard) not making the list😅 mine is an absolute nightmare and doesnt let me anywhere near 😅 Congrats to you and your partner on the wedding. All the best
Mountain Horned Dragons are so common here in Malaysia. We used to catch and play with them in the fields after school. They are indeed so dang cute... Maybe after this video, I'll try to keep a couple of them as pets 😁
Only lizard native to Ontario, but not the only lizard or skink in Canada. I think Canada only has 5 endemic species of lizards and 3 are skinks lol. Not a lot to choose from in such a vast country hahaha.
Iv always wanted to keep a lizard but never have because most need daily feeding, but those collords lizards look really fun to keep and eat insects which seems easier then some of the other lizards. Im going to start learning about them and looking forward to seeing yours. Thanks adam
Noooo 😭 where are the Schneider's skinks? I hope to get one maybe in the next year, but I never kept reptiles before (except geckositting crested geckos for 3 weeks). Are they not for beginners? I fell in love with emerald tree skinks because of Clint, but then you and All Canadian Reptile Girl started speaking about Schneider's skinks and I fell even MORE in love. I just hope I can find one at some point shipping to Quebec 😅 Great video as always tho, even if I'm sad my favs weren't included haha
My pick: RANKIN'S DRAGON, also known as pygmy bearded dragon, because unlike the collared lizard they actually ARE a small bearded dragon. 😀 They are so underrated but the perfect lizard if a central beardie is to big for you. And they cohab very well as they live in small groups in the wild. I got a pair as my first lizards and I love them so much. The cutest lizards ever. Yes I will continieu to harrass you about the Rankin's untill you mention it in a video like this. 😉
I live in central CA and my current plan is to replace my exotic animals with native analogs as they are all at least middle aged. collared lizards are at the top of that list, along with banded geckos, chuckwallas, garter and gopher snakes. Already got my rosy boa and ornate box turtle, they are fantastic.
You know people in Texas that see collared lizards all the time? I've lived my whole life in Texas and never even heard of them! The only thing in my area are house geckos and fence lizards. And the fence lizards are new to me since i moved a few hours away from where I was. I used to only see house geckos and green anoles.
I think we need to ditch "beginner", "intermediate", and "advanced" in favor of "pet", "hobbyist", and "professional". It's more of a level of dedication rather than a true difficulty for most of them.
Oh I see. I love snake discovery so much. And your channel is just as awesome. I would absolutely be on patreon for both channels if I could but my parents won’t let me
The teenaged lad next door bothered his mother enough that she gave in & bought him his own Kimono Dragon. She’d already one in her front room - living in a glass tank measuring a metre by half a metre with a couple of rocks & 3” of sand. The lad held his in a Guinea Pig type cabin in his room. We always fed her various pets when they went away. We visited them at Christmas & noticed how bored the dragons looked & the miserable conditions they faced - dirty water , dried leaves , poops uncleared etc. The mum must’ve picked up our horror when exclaiming how their weekly dun-out was due …The sight of both of these animals was heartbreaking but on being given the door key around the following Easter , i felt like exploding because the lads’ creature was not only surrounded by ignorance of care or interest - in a dark room , the same small tank & a bulb which didn’t appear at all UV etc ,was unconscious & had lost weight…. I cleaned the waste & left fresh food & water & tried to tempt the thing but he was extremely unresponsive at first. To cut a long story short we almost fell out with them on their return but the mum did take advice & after trying to improve their standard of care eventually re homed hers to a friend of their veterinary but the lads’ dragon died before the next Christmas. Anyone considering owning a reptile must seriously want to devote proper time , money , a secure but large space & actually love the creatures because they are folks of their own. They aren’t Objects or Toys. 😔👍🐢❤️
Was surprised to see phantasticus on this list. I bought a pair nearly 20 years ago, for around 600, which is like 3.7 million in todays dollars. One only lasted overnight, and the other died within 72 hours. Never considered them since.
I breed them, as long as that temp never EVER goes over 80 degrees they do great! I’ve produced dozens of them, never lost a single baby, they eat well and grow really fast

Your wedding photo looked lovely, she looks like a lovely person and the dogs looked good but why no lizard, you needed a skink on your head at least. Congratulations 🎊
Prickly/Bynoe’s geckos would be greatly on this list too as they’re like a mix between a mourning gecko and a dune gecko cause they live in the desert and are parthonegenic.
