Overlooked features: Iguanas have pretty devastating bites. Tegu can raise their body temperature during breeding season, allowing them to be active while other builds still need to bask. They also have a very strong bite and can run pretty fast. Geckos - some of them can not only shed their tail but also their skin, making grappling attacks much harder to land. Also some gecko species spec heavily in the 'cute' factor, forcing human players to keep them as pets which not only protects them from other pvp players but also results in a good and steady supply of xp. Monitors not only can run and breath at the same time, their circulatory system has some pretty unique features in their heart resulting in a much better seperation between veinous and arterial blood which means better endurance. They also have a pretty high intelligence for lizards which results in some of them being able to make use of human players as protectors and xp delivery persons - like geckos.
Geckos should go a little bit higher if only because they come in such a huge variety. While many geckos spec into the climbing ability (like my beloved crestie), others (like beloved AFT gecko) spec into ground dwelling/desert survival specs. This gives geckos a huge range to live in.

Should be noted that monitor lizard builds are also the only lizards who are capable of breathing and running at the same time. By forcing air down their throats, they can chase down other players with much greater endurance than any other lizard build.
They are the only ones that can run on four legs, but many other builds are able to breath while running on their back legs, which is much less efficient, but still better than nothing.

One of the reasons monitor lizards are OP is that they're unusual in having invested heavily into endurance, meaning they can keep going for extended periods of time (to the extent they actually exceed ambush-specialized mammals like cats in terms of stamina).
Fun Fact: While komodo dragons don't have the strongest bite, their saliva does contain an strong anti-clotting agent, or anticoagulant, so they only need to bite their prey once and then chase it as it slowly bleeds out.
In general, mammals get smaller on islands. Fewer food resources pressures mammals into evolving smaller bodies. Carnivorous mammals usually die off. Reptiles are cold blooded so they don’t require as many calories. That means island reptiles get bigger and replace the niche that carnivorous mammals had.

I love anole lizards. I've seen many in my patio here in New Orleans changing color as they move from branches to leaves but it wasn't until I lucked into a house lizard that I really came to appreciate them. Fruit flies are a common curse here. They are so tiny and numerous that swatting them is hopeless. There may be hundreds in a swarm. Living in an 1850's building I also am cursed with cockroaches, not the tiny ones from the north but 3" giants. I have tried everything to get rid of them but they nest in the empty spaces behind drawers or in walls. About 4 months ago I noticed an anole lizard on my kitchen wall. They are so beautiful, brilliant green with those inscrutable ultra-black eyes. I welcomed it but was unsure whether it could survive in my apartment. There was a big hatch of fruit flies over one of my counters. The next day there were less and by day 3 they were completely gone. I assumed the lizard got them. But then the cockroaches started to disappear. Where I might have seen a dozen or more every day now it was more like 1 or 2. Finally they disappeared too. I can only speculate that the lizard was eating all their eggs. A few tiny ones started showing up with a rare teenage one and I was afraid my lizard had died of starvation, (no more eggs!). I was heartened by seeing just the end of a tail twitch in a crack but the next day there was a tiny lizard body lying on my dishtowel. I don't know why it died. Maybe hunger, maybe age, maybe it got sick but I cried for it. BUT the next day I saw another tail so it's relative has taken up the fight. Got roaches, flies, fruit flies, moths, get a lizard!

Its mouth is so full of harmful bacterial and gunk that, even if you do avoid death via venom, you are guaranteed to gain an infection debuff and suffer excruciating status effects as your body slowly kills itself to cure the infection debuff.
Legends of a very smart gecko have surfaced, saying that he runs an insurance company, and pretends to be an animated lizard used in its marketing. I think there's more to lizards than we realie
“Cuteness” is an often overlooked stat that can do wonders for surviving and getting free xp.
Geckos have loads of it
That's less a stat, and more a collection of stats that make you appealing as a companion to Human players. I find play as a human companion quite boring, as everything is provided with no real struggles, but it's nice if you want to play casually.
@@blueraspberrysoda2133 Most humans start off taking advantage of this playstyle. Some continue to take advantage of it late into life, even sometimes making money from it.
The problem with maximizing the cuteness stat is when it gets too high it makes you a magnet for the infamous "boop" attack.
Yes, this only works when encountering human mains, but on top of that you have to be friendly to them, if you pull these off, then yeah, xp comes easy
Though different human mains have certain cuteness resistances most have a very low one fortunately

Should be noted that monitor lizard builds are also the only lizards who are capable of breathing and running at the same time. By forcing air down their throats, they can chase down other players with much greater endurance than any other lizard build.
The way they pressurize their heart to prevent oxygenated and deoxygenated blood from mixing helps too.
They are the only ones that can run on four legs, but many other builds are able to breath while running on their back legs, which is much less efficient, but still better than nothing.

Unfortunately zard doesn't learn poison fang

"I don't think there are any truly awful lizard builds"
Liked immediately. All lizards are good lizards! :)
Not being awful and being good are two different things.
@@michaelcumming2097 It's only a joke. I like lizards. I'd have Liked the video regardless.
Especially beardies!!! 😍😍
I get so creeped out by lizards! Maybe it's a phobia because I only get that crept out, unlike most other animals. I just don't like their abrupt jittery movementents
Lizards suck
Honestly, real talk. I really like learning about nature and how animals interact in the ecosystems they inhabit, but I typically have a hard time resonating with the teaching method. This game-ification of teaching something that I would only really be able to find elsewhere on the Discovery channel makes learning this stuff really fun and engaging.
Just gotta say as an aspiring zoologist and video game enthusiastic I love how you combine video game terms with animals because my friends hate listening to me ramble on about my love for animals but I can show them your videos which can keep them entertained while gaining a little bit of love for my favorite subject.
Shout out to bearded dragons, the true F tier lizard. As someone who has owned and is currently owning one, it's a miracle they didn't die out long ago.
They're dumdums but they're pretty well adapted. Mobile, good climbers, sturdy skin, good threat display, a tail that doesn't detach, omnivorous, and popular pets so as a species they're set
@@kvltofsobek90 That is true! Someone needs to tell that to one of my beardies who will only poop in the bathtub while someone is holding his hand for support. 🤔
@@sociallyundead419 My beardie only poops outside of his tank, though not limited to his bathtub, but he came from a bad breeder that likely didn't clean properly (Also came with two types of parasites and some scars, but doing a lot better now). Can't really fault a whole species for individuals that have issues. Under that logic humans would be F tier when you look at humans with dementia in adolescence that can't take care of themselves at all.
Honestly, watching my boy, I think playing as a beardie main would be quite enjoyable, though my top pick would be another agamid: Frilled lizard.
@@beardiemom They all have their quirks! I absolutely love them. I acknowledge my little lizards are a bit dopey...

Intelligence stat: MAX
Komodo dragon op af, they got the decay affect on their bite so they can just bite the prey and slowly chase it down at a walking pace, also their stealth allows them to compete with humans in ideal habitats
Tier zoo: reptiles who heavily require water in their player base are a step backward and are not worth it Crocs: are u sure about that?
If you're gonna be water-centric, you gotta go ALL IN like crocodilian mains.
@@GunlessSnake Ironic, seeing how the 2 best crocs didnt all in on water and are still a meta threat when the grasslands, skyscraper and even mountain field spells are server active.

@@stonedmountainunicorn9532 The evil alter ago that spams copyright claims.
very distracting
Mixed with some ScapeRune.
I have an idea for a build, it has a high intelligence stat and medium to low stealth, it specks into powerful claws and a powerful whip like tail, with the claws, it creates a burrow, and inside the burrow, it sets a trap involving dirt, and when the target approaches, the build starts using intimidation abilities so it didnt charge in, then it whips its tail against the wall caving in the entrance with dirt suffocating the target, and if it escapes, too bad, if it escapes into the burrow, the claws are enough to finish it off. How does it bait the target, 1, it catches insects to bait builds, 2, its low stealth stat. And you're wondering how is it going to cave in the dirt? It creates something similar to a turmite mound and part of it goes in the ground, the turmite mound is not secure enough and can cave in, but not so the whole burrow caved in. I think this will be a A-B tier build. If you read this far, please reply or like.
