CB, If you haven't read _1984,_ please do so to see how much this film owes to it. It was published in 1949 and less than a year later, the author, George Orwell / Eric Blair, died at 46 of complications of lung infection, after a several-month hospital stay. In the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, his novel was required reading at school here in the U.S. It remains very well-known in the UK, and i assume is still required in grade school over there, despite its failure to keep both sides of a bipolar world from sliding into the darkness and insanity it foretold. ✌🏼
Not really. 1984 while the premise is OK, but it is pretty poorly written... Orwell was also a complete arse hat of a man. His works in the west (particularly the US) is a product of it being a preferred "anti-communist" propaganda...
"It's so on the nose..." Remember the graphic novel on which the film is based was written way back in the 1980s. It isn't so much "on the nose" as prophetic!
To be fair, there was much changed (the book is post nuclear, not a bioweapon, for example), but yes, there are many similarities that are true (such as the surveillance state)
As far as predictions go it is like a mirror in that it also reverses the image. The tyrants are nationalists whose motto is "unity is a strength" instead of the actuality of globalists tyrants whose mottos "diversity" is a strength. They even had a "message of hate" in the movie way before the Orwellian hate speech laws were brought into censor dissidents. It is remarkable how many parallels there are if we simply swap out the fictitious right wing dictatorship for the real left wing globalist dictatorship we are under.
I was uncertain whether CB used this phrasing correctly but it seemed she did. She said “on the nose” meaning on point, precise. But I thought of the term “too on the nose” meaning a lack of subtlety. What made it somewhat confusing in my mind is imho the movie can possibly have that criticism levelled at it in certain moments as the adaption from its source material removed a degree of nuance for cliche. Still a fantastic story and the film makes it reach a much larger audience.
I swear, as amazing as the alliteration-ridden speech is, I will never be able to recite it, even with practice. Hugo Weaving is incredible at what he does. "Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. [carves 'V' into the poster on the wall] The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V."
But wait, he had a mask on, how do we know he didn't just read it and add as a voice over? He was brilliant though given he acted entirely in a mask and we felt every emotion.
@@platinumspider7859I feel like its a superhero movie in the same way that Watchmen was a superhero movie. It's about superheros, but the superheroism(?) wasn't the crux of the movie.
@@sanctimoniouslocke3941 I'd disagree. In Watchmen superheroes were a key part of the plot. It was about the humanity and inherent failings thereof that lie beneath their costumes but it was very much a superhero movie in a world where they became the norm. V is the only one like him in the setting and his powers are subtle. The plot has nothing to do with powers, it's a story of the corruption of political power and people's need to guard and fight for their freedom.
@@platinumspider7859 I find it similar in that, in Watchmen, the superpowers are incidental. With the exception of... the blue guy, at least. Since you said you liked symbolism, V's name, cell number, date of his escape.... did you notice when V surprised Creedy at knife point and turned the music on, it played Beethoven's 5th symphony.
One of my favorite films of all time. You mentioned parallels with another Facebook mine, Beauty and the Beast, but even more similar is it to yet another beloved classic, The Phantom of the Opera. V and Erik have a good amount in common. V is so charismatic and endearing, Hugo Weaving did such an excellent job making us fall for a character whose face you never even catch a glimpse of. The graphic novel is good but very different from the film (just a couple right off the bat, V has a hat that makes him look like a pilgrim, Evey is blonde and Gordon Dietrich isn't gay, he and Evey actually sleep together while she's hiding out at his place) and I agree with/prefer the differences in the film version. That domino sequence is sexy though, innit? 😅 So glad you enjoyed it, your reactions are always such a joy for me to watch ❤
I watched this in the cinema when it was released with a friend from university. We studied history ... I was on my eighth semester, and unsure what to write my thesis about. After this, I knew. I wrote about the Gunpowder Plot ... and got the equivalent of an A-. This film was formative to me, for that reason. But the one sequence that always, always makes me cry openly, is Valerie's Letter. Even though Alan Moore hates this version of his story (I own the comic book too, and it is incredible, but yes, very different from the film), it made a massive difference in my life.
The graphic novel this film is based on is great. Although it shares some similarities with the novel, the tone is very different. Alan Moore, the writer of the original graphic novel, had no involvement in any of the films made from his work. He mentioned that "V for Vendetta" raises the question of whether violence can be justified if used for good. According to Moore, the comic answered this question with a resounding no, whereas the film took the opposite stance. Regardless, it remains one of my favorite films, if not my absolute favorite.
The call backs, reversals, Easter eggs, parallels in the story telling here are fantastic. Every time I watch the movie I catch another twist of some kind. Watching this time, I noticed after the first building was destroyed, the Chancellor demands Tchaikovsky's "War of 1812" overture is added to the black list saying "I never want to hear that music again." And he gets his wish cause he's shot dead an hour before the overture was played again as the British Parliament blows up !!! LOLOL

One of the main reasons Gordon feels that he is at risk of being "found out" by authorities in his own home and pretty much the only reason that V's neighbour to his cell - Valarie - is disowned, captured and incarcerated in the first place is left out of this reaction video.

As you can see this movie isn't that far from the real world isn't it. Always remember that we the people have to most power, by numbers alone and with unity we are unstoppable. More and more people are waking up to point were if the metaphorical domino stone is getting pushed.. The shift of humanity is gonna change and this time for the good:) atleast that's what i like to believe haha. Anyway awesome reaction! Keep them coming!
I love this movie but after watching a couple of reactions i have one question. Where did V hide the letter in the fire? I can just come up with one place and i think its funny🤣
I mostly love it when you react to movies made in the 20th Century but there are a few more recent movies I would really love for you to react to: Passengers (2016) Bladerunner 2049 (You could also react to the first Bladerunner movie - it’s a super famous classic and very influential but it’s a bit slow/boring. But don’t let it put you off watching the sequel which is one of those sequels which is better than the original). Enemy at the Gates The Grey Edge of Darkness
Do you know who V is sweetie....?........do you recognize his voice.........Agent Smith from the Matrix.....Hugo Weaving......also from Lord of the Rings.......
Here's the thing, the actual Guy Fawkes was a HORRIBLE person, and his cause was wrong, but he'll always be a symbol of rebellion against the government. And that is often a good thing.

Which is why our governments work tirelessly to keep us divided. As long as we are blaming "them," there is no "us."
This and Shawshank Redemption vie with each other for my favourite movie of all time.
This is one of the best movies ever
I love this movie but after watching a couple of reactions i have one question. Where did V hide the letter in the fire? I can just come up with one place and i think its funny🤣
first ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ really enjoy your reactions
Wonderful observations- it was a pleasure to watch.
9:10. It is what America is becoming...
Another great reaction 😃
Thank you!! 😁
I mostly love it when you react to movies made in the 20th Century but there are a few more recent movies I would really love for you to react to:
Passengers (2016)
Bladerunner 2049
(You could also react to the first Bladerunner movie - it’s a super famous classic and very influential but it’s a bit slow/boring. But don’t let it put you off watching the sequel which is one of those sequels which is better than the original).
Enemy at the Gates
The Grey
Edge of Darkness
If you’re doing 2049 u have to do original first
The comic writer was an anarchist and the movie was made by a trans woman (Matrix)
but yes it is about fascism
Sadly😢 😢😭😭
Do you know who V is sweetie....?........do you recognize his voice.........Agent Smith from the Matrix.....Hugo Weaving......also from Lord of the Rings.......
This movie is a lil too close to where we’re headed. It’s just the people in charge is flipped.
??
Bugsy Malone is the next movie you should watch, hilarious slapstick comedy i think you would like!✌️🙌
Great reaction as always
the beauty met the beast and the BEAST said i can fix her XD
Just imagine if what happened in that movie becomes real...
V vs Black mamba vs John Wick vs Deadpool
great movie! reminds me of a certain political party. that just so happens to still be in power. does art create life or does life create art
Great film, very pertinent. Valerie's letter destroys me every time I watch it
The romance angle wasn't a thing in the comic, not sure I like that addition. I think they did it to highlight parallels between V and Edmond Dantes.
Here's the thing, the actual Guy Fawkes was a HORRIBLE person, and his cause was wrong, but he'll always be a symbol of rebellion against the government. And that is often a good thing.
Some of the same guys who worked on this adaptation worked on the Matrix same with the John Wick movies : D
Is "Heather Sinclair" also your channel? If not, somebody is re-uploading your content.
No, that's not my channel. I've reported it multiple times to UA-cam
Anyone else feel like Eve would be the worst hostage ever? 😂
thanks for content
11:49 I mean got damn Natalie Portman. This is what created vtubers.
It´s criminal what the people allowed the governments to do to them during the pandemic.
